Grabbed this one today at Barnes and Noble on the Arrow half price sale (in-store) for $29.99 and used a $25.00 gift card from grandma😅. Best $5 ever spent!
I saw The Warriors in the theater in 1979. Snuck in as a kid and have been a fan ever since. I've been waiting for this release for quite some time and it doesn't disappoint. I've owned The Warriors on VHS and the Playstation 3 game. I still have the DVD but it was the Ultimate Directors Cut and never was a fan. I missed out on the Imprint Bluray which did offer both versions. As soon as I heard it was being released by Arrow I preordered. I received my 4K copy earlier this week and I'm so happy with the transfer and to have the theatrical cut again. The one thing that I was not sure about was the Dolby Atmos seemed to have dropped a notch or two as far as volume goes compared to the 2.0. Could have been my system though. Man, I'm thrilled with this release. Thanks for your review and quality content.
Like you, I basically grew up w/this film. Have owned multiple versions as well. My question is; me and my friend remember seeing it played on tv here in NY a few times (either ch. 9 or 11?). Anyway, those times we saw it on tv, there seemed to be a longer speech by Cyrus, where he’s mentioning stuff NOT found on any home video version I’ve seen or owned before. Including this new ARROW release. Is there a version that at least has this extended Cyrus speech, as a “deleted/extended scene”, as prt of a bonus feature??

The Warriors is one of the movies that needs to be left alone. It is also my favorite number 1 movie of all time. A series needs to stay out of this and the last thing we need is some greedy corporate getting their hands on it and ruin it. I say this with a if and I mean a big if. If they ever were to make a tv series out of it they need to stick to the orginal story. I give credit to Rockstar games for actually making a really good prequel/back story to how The Warriors were created. This movie is sacred to alot of us diehard fans
I could see the possibility of a TV show adaptation of the game. Like how The Last Of Us was done. I know Halo has a series but never played the games so I don’t know how good it is. But if The Warriors was made in to a series from the game, it could be quite epic. Every episode could be each gang level and then finish off with a remake of how the movie ends with more story/action. Well, we could dream, can’t we?
I bought three Arrow Video releases in 2023, a very average year. But I did get the The Warriors 4K with OG art. It's a classic. I always said Arrow would do it eventually. The theatrical cut is easily the best.
No matter how many times I watch Tbe Warriors I always get chills when Barry De Vorzon's fantastic opening score kicks in along with the subway sounds. Absolutely perfect.
Every time the chills happen is right. I saw this when it came out and absolutely loved the opening score along with the wonder wheel shot. Hahaha. Hit the nail right on the head with this comment. Mines coming in on Saturday and I can't wait.

The only disappointment with the DC is the cut of Ajax's face when they first see The Furies. It's a classic piece of cinema and they cut it! Incredible.
I bought the Imprint release when it came out last year I think? I paid too much for it because I would rather have the Arrow release. But, I will settle for the one I have now. The Warriors is a wonderful movie.
One of the worst decisions on the directors cut is the very end. The theatrical release was very cool just showing the Warriors walking down the beach from behind as Joe Walsh’s In the City plays. Instead the directors cut has a cartoon panel.
The Warriors was based on a book, not a comic, though one of the characters in the book reads a comic about Xenophon's Anabasis, which is the original basis for the story. (And a good read itself.)
One of my favourite films from one of my favourite directors, first saw this on vhs back in the day and have loved it ever since. Unfortunately I don't think we are getting this over here in England
48 Hours is Eddie Murphy's best movie. You need to check out the following great Walter Hill movies: The Street Fighter (1975) AKA Hard Times The Driver (1978) Southern Comfort (1981) Johnny Handsome (1989) Trespass (1992)

I saw The Warriors in London,1979, i think it was a Orion cinema, not sure, but i can tell you one thing, it just blew my mind, from the begining, when all the gangs meet, and they are back in coney island, the music, the way they talked to each other, and the fighting. Walter Hill loves all the dark gritty neon lights. I also love 48hrs, that looks and feels the same way. Iam so excited about the 4k A/V quality that you can tell us about, yes arrow is the best when it comes to box sets in the moment. I have ordered The Warriors, it will come the first week in Jan. If you could somehow get Spike Lee, Sean Durkin, and Edgar Wright to work together on one film together, I'd love their remake of this film. No updates, just a super faithful adaptation. Could breathe new life into the franchise and create a revolution

I was going to tell Ken that it wasn't based on a comic; Hill based it on a mythological Greek tale of a warrior trying to get home as he battles his way through enemies. In many ways, it feels like a version of Clash of the Titans.....
1. When this came out many of the larger cities didn't run it. They were afraid it would lead to gang violence. 2. Late 70s soundtrack. 🤩 3. My favorite character is Luther. He's f-ing nuts. 4. Skates may look cool, but would suck in a fight. 5. "Warriors, come out to play" was ad lib. The director told David Patrick Kelly to come up with something menacing, and he looked back to when he was a kid and a creepy old neighbor used to torment the kids to come out to play. 6. The girl with the flowers on the train at the end is Debra Winger. This was her first gig. 7. End it with Joe Walsh.
Just commented about this on Adam's channel - I love this film but I really don't have an issue with Paramount's original anamorphic DVD, which is what I own. It really looks fine. They could have updated the mono audio track, but a 5.1 mix was saved for the so called Director's Cut years later. On that topic, I remember picking up the Director's Cut on DVD and being completely put off by the comic panels; I ended up selling it and keeping the theatrical version on that original DVD. This looks like a really nice release, with the thick boxing and all that, but I don't think it's worth $45.

I was looking forward to getting my copy in the uk and bought it from eBay. Unfortunatley, the guy that posted it to me had put far too much tape on the packaging making it hard to open it. I put a small gauge in the cardboard sleeve which put me off openeing it.
It’s so annoying that I only just recently got into 4ks as Arrow has released tons of my favourite films in limited editions that I can’t get anywhere anymore unless I’m willing to pay twice the price on eBay! This one included 😭 First limited one I’ll be getting looks to be Withnail and I released next month!

Great review Ken! Glad you’re “digging” The Warriors! This movie has been a personal favorite of mine since I saw it at a midnight viewing back in 1980. Like you said, it only played in major theaters for just a little while before it got pulled due to gang violence, which apparently only happened in New York. so by the time I got around to seeing it, it was already a midnight cult thing. I have so many versions of this movie already and I am highly anticipating this 4K. should be arriving soon, hopefully. But yeah, Arrow has really done a great job with this it seems and another Walter Hill movie. to view is Southern comfort if you haven’t already. And one more thing I agree, 48 hours blows Beverly Hills cop out of the water and I like Beverly Hills Cop. Eddie never topped 48 hours in my opinion.

It took me awhile to become an Arrow Video fan. That's mostly due to the titles they release. They are starting to release more stuff I like. Horror is my favorite genre but they are starting to release more of the other stuff I like, like The Warriors, the western boxsets, and Shaw Brothers stuff. And now both Conan films? Yeah, fair to say I'm loving their 2023 announcements and hope they do more of the stuff I like for 2024. Still hoping for that Chronicles of Riddick 4k. 🤞🏻
Thing is I paid £20 with shipping £35 and that's the Blu-ray edition not ultra. . I only bought after some advertising that was on discount . Didn't realise was two versions . For me the wanderers always be the best gang film
question though to be sure with this 4K release , i had that horrible version too with the cartoonish addons aswell but that wasnt the only dissapointing thing also the audio music was redone , it wasnt the original background music . So to sure this release with the og release has no cartoonish addons and the original background music ?
Great review. I was worried when you kept referring to Cyrus as "the leader". But you eventually called him by name lol. Joking, but they make a big deal about his character in the movie, he is the center/origin of the plot. But jokes aside, great review. Thats kisappointing on not including a standard blu ray
Great review, I was on the fence as to whether or not to pick this one up. You convinced me, I just ordered the original artwork version, I actually like the new design even the color, but I will always default to the original artwork if it’s an option. The Warriors came out when I was in high school and it was the film to see, I’ve always really liked it. I also grabbed the Hugo 4K limited edition, as it’s on sale and I love Scorsese.
I'm only disappointed when there isn't enough grain. That said it does need to be presented correctly and currently the best way is an oled display calibrated to d65 white point
I'll have to disagree with that. I thought Point Break 4k looked amazing. I thought it had just the right amount of grain, enough to feel/see the detail but not so much it looked distracting.
I owned the dvd with the comic strips in the movie, disnt like that version so i gave it away. Nust own the 1st dvd that came out and now the 4K eddition .
Not only have I gotten FIVE total emails from arrow about my tremors still being delayed, but I got another email from arrow about this one being delayed as well! Holiday season whatever, but the tremors one is unacceptable. Arrows trying to go on my naughty bitch list at the end of the year.
Set looks nice, I just got an email from Arrow saying there is going to be a long delay in getting my copy. I guess I'm not important enough to get it as fast as you did. Same with Vinegar Syndrome, I still haven't received my Black Friday order.
Walter Hill is one of my favorite directors. If you take the first half of his career ....which for me is HARD TIMES all the way to STREETS OF FIRE..... the only 2 films of his I didn't like were THE WARRIORS and STREETS OF FIRE. HARD TIMES ... THE DRIVER ... LONG RIDERS ... 48 HRS ..... SOUTHERN COMFORT .... all torch THE WARRIORS imo. He also wrote the screenplays for .. THE GETAWAY and HICKEY & BOGGS ... which are both great!
The director's cut is an abomination. Walter Hill should be slapped by every fan for what he did to it 😂. I don't mind the comic book inserts, but his butchering of the Baseball Furies reveal scene outside the train station is a travesty.
The only reason they have been including blu ray with 4K all these years is so people could future proof. Those days are over. Labels don't care if you want to watch in another room.
MERRY CHRISTMAS! I made sure that THIS TIME I bought this WARRIORS box set fast! As now it is OOP. per se aka SOLD OUT. I was in hospital 8 days after I ordered WARRIORS. I first saw this movie in 1979 in Levittown NY - at time I was not impressed at the time. BUT NOW, like it a lot much more now. Especially since it has ATMOS sound now. Glad I waited for this than buy the previous dvd-bluray set. I got mine 3 days before the actual premiere date on video. Got mine on December 16. And entered hospital December 11 and ordered this -bought- December 11 or so, but Mom was able to be home when it arrived. Thanks for your great review. Have happy holidays!

@midlevelmedia no alternate reality. That would make it fictional. That was real life. Even if you watch the extras, they talk about having to pay off the gangs to be given permission to film. They even had to hire hells angels as protection. An alternate reality would be Escape from NewYork.

The majority of fans do NOT like the “Director’s Cut”.
P.S. it looks great now and the sound is fantastic, as it is now atmos. and love the box set as has a lot of info.

Arrow video is very expensive. But worth every penny. You just have to save up some funds to be able to buy the releases.
Great review Ken! Glad you’re “digging” The Warriors! This movie has been a personal favorite of mine since I saw it at a midnight viewing back in 1980. Like you said, it only played in major theaters for just a little while before it got pulled due to gang violence, which apparently only happened in New York. so by the time I got around to seeing it, it was already a midnight cult thing. I have so many versions of this movie already and I am highly anticipating this 4K. should be arriving soon, hopefully. But yeah, Arrow has really done a great job with this it seems and another Walter Hill movie. to view is Southern comfort if you haven’t already. And one more thing I agree, 48 hours blows Beverly Hills cop out of the water and I like Beverly Hills Cop. Eddie never topped 48 hours in my opinion.
I watched the movie in 79 when it came out in Reading, PA.

As you’ve said Arrow has been hitting these releases out of the ball park. And just when you think they can’t top themselves in a single year , they keep releasing amazing film packages , one after another : Bruce Lee , Hellraiser , Psycho, now The Warriors ??? Omg - I’m so psyched !! I think 4K really benefits older (40+ year old ) films ….. I’ve been looking forward to this coming out …. As you’ve stated , Walter Hills directing and his cinematographer did amazing work on this film ….. I can’t wait for my copy!!

It took me awhile to become an Arrow Video fan. That's mostly due to the titles they release. They are starting to release more stuff I like. Horror is my favorite genre but they are starting to release more of the other stuff I like, like The Warriors, the western boxsets, and Shaw Brothers stuff. And now both Conan films? Yeah, fair to say I'm loving their 2023 announcements and hope they do more of the stuff I like for 2024. Still hoping for that Chronicles of Riddick 4k. 🤞🏻

Thing is I paid £20 with shipping £35 and that's the Blu-ray edition not ultra. . I only bought after some advertising that was on discount . Didn't realise was two versions . For me the wanderers always be the best gang film

I got the Blu-Ray edition. Is that blu-ray a good upgrade or the same as ones before?
question though to be sure with this 4K release , i had that horrible version too with the cartoonish addons aswell but that wasnt the only dissapointing thing also the audio music was redone , it wasnt the original background music . So to sure this release with the og release has no cartoonish addons and the original background music ?

Great review. I was worried when you kept referring to Cyrus as "the leader". But you eventually called him by name lol. Joking, but they make a big deal about his character in the movie, he is the center/origin of the plot. But jokes aside, great review. Thats kisappointing on not including a standard blu ray
Great review, I was on the fence as to whether or not to pick this one up. You convinced me, I just ordered the original artwork version, I actually like the new design even the color, but I will always default to the original artwork if it’s an option. The Warriors came out when I was in high school and it was the film to see, I’ve always really liked it. I also grabbed the Hugo 4K limited edition, as it’s on sale and I love Scorsese.

I gotta say I've watched the new "Point Break" 4k, and was really disappointed. There's so much grain.. The best part was the beautiful steelbook.
I'm only disappointed when there isn't enough grain. That said it does need to be presented correctly and currently the best way is an oled display calibrated to d65 white point

I'll have to disagree with that. I thought Point Break 4k looked amazing. I thought it had just the right amount of grain, enough to feel/see the detail but not so much it looked distracting.

I owned the dvd with the comic strips in the movie, disnt like that version so i gave it away. Nust own the 1st dvd that came out and now the 4K eddition .
Not only have I gotten FIVE total emails from arrow about my tremors still being delayed, but I got another email from arrow about this one being delayed as well! Holiday season whatever, but the tremors one is unacceptable. Arrows trying to go on my naughty bitch list at the end of the year.

Walter Hill is one of my favorite directors. If you take the first half of his career ....which for me is HARD TIMES all the way to STREETS OF FIRE..... the only 2 films of his I didn't like were THE WARRIORS and STREETS OF FIRE.
HARD TIMES ... THE DRIVER ... LONG RIDERS ... 48 HRS ..... SOUTHERN COMFORT .... all torch THE WARRIORS imo.
He also wrote the screenplays for .. THE GETAWAY and HICKEY & BOGGS ... which are both great!
Around the same The Wanderers came out which i enoyed too very much. Or am i the only one who remembers that movie?

Up until 5 years ago I only watched Rom Coms and Lifetime movies.
The director's cut is an abomination. Walter Hill should be slapped by every fan for what he did to it 😂. I don't mind the comic book inserts, but his butchering of the Baseball Furies reveal scene outside the train station is a travesty.
I do prefer the original theatrical cut. I was never a fan of the added comic book transitions. I am looking forward to receiving my copy.

Yes it is, I got mine from there yesterday.
The only reason they have been including blu ray with 4K all these years is so people could future proof. Those days are over. Labels don't care if you want to watch in another room.
If they aren't going to put a blu ray with their 4k releases, they can and should lower their prices by $4.99 on all 4k titles.
Arrow may be the best but it’s all debatable. People like vinegar syndrome bringing lost films and all there 4ks look as good as they possibly can.

MERRY CHRISTMAS! I made sure that THIS TIME I bought this WARRIORS box set fast! As now it is OOP. per se aka SOLD OUT. I was in hospital 8 days after I ordered WARRIORS. I first saw this movie in 1979 in Levittown NY - at time I was not impressed at the time. BUT NOW, like it a lot much more now. Especially since it has ATMOS sound now. Glad I waited for this than buy the previous dvd-bluray set. I got mine 3 days before the actual premiere date on video. Got mine on December 16. And entered hospital December 11 and ordered this -bought- December 11 or so, but Mom was able to be home when it arrived. Thanks for your great review. Have happy holidays!

Futuristic? This was how new york city was in the 60s and 70s. The gangs were more violent.
Maybe wrong choice of words, but it was definitely some type of alternate reality.
@midlevelmedia no alternate reality. That would make it fictional. That was real life. Even if you watch the extras, they talk about having to pay off the gangs to be given permission to film. They even had to hire hells angels as protection. An alternate reality would be Escape from NewYork.
In the alternate cut it specifically says sometime in the future
