The Ford Lightning is one of the strangest trucks ever built. It wasn't great at towing and when it comes to a financial decision for Ford it made absolutely no sense. With its 5.4L supercharged V8 it screamed its way to the top of the tachometer. So what would a 2020 version of a Ford F150 lightning look like? The guys at VMP Performance down in Florida decided to take matters into their own hands and built this 650HP Coyote powered F150. On race gas this massive truck will run a low 10 second quarter mile. With a bone stock engine equipped with their VMP Gen 3 supercharger its one missed opportunity by the Ford Motor company to built something with true character and personality once again. So what is a 2020 Ford Lightning like? Let's go for a drive and find out!

Ram srt 10 will most likely never happen again because they stopped making the viper but since the hellcat is their new fast powerplant there is a concept they have out called the ram trx i think it is and that has the hellcat motor in it

I agree, I have a 4 door truck and I am thankful for it but also sick of 4 door trucks. They all look the same and don’t forget the first thing every body does is put the same boring black rims on them.

Really only fleets buy single cabs of all brands. Gm and ram get more private consumers that want single cabs than ford but very few are sold either way. Supply & demand will decide if they get discontinued.
if you have a family 2 door trucks mean you have to buy a 2nd vehicle just for that.. and the cost between 2dr and 4 dr doesnt justify buying a 2 dr.

'As bare bones an F-150 as you can get' and it has: power windows, power locks, tilt/telescoping wheel, cruise control, wireless phone/music features, steering wheel controls, navigation, probably carpet... man, I must just be old, haha!

A used dealership where I live had a 2019 “lightning”.I think there is a dealership that modifies them that way.
Some dealerships do. There is a big one in Ohio that does. It never hurts to ask your local dealership.

Just got a 2020 ford f150 abyss gray single cab, 5.0, 10 speed. Pretty quick stock. Going to tune it but ultimately slap a supercharger on it 👌🏼.
That sounds like a nice find! From what I hear it's pretty hard to even find a single cab, not to mention a single cab short. With the 10-speed that's probably a mid 13 truck 👍
More like a mid 12 sec truck. I have one and mine is a high 11 but I have work done to it.

I bought the Lightning back in 2011 and the buyer left it stock and I did as well. The truck is something Ive never experienced ever. I bought the truck because I saw it on Fast & Furious and researched it. Only to learn of its amazing capability. The thing was a freaking beast.

My old 2016 F150 was essentially the Harley Davidson version of this truck man, had some nice HD 24's and a Whipple. I loved that truck to death man, so happy you finally got into a New "Lightning"!!! Nice video man!

I'm definitely getting one soon, just about the coolest vehicle, to me, I can think of. Although mine will be a 4x4 set up more for off road.
And I'll most likely go with a wipple supercharger.

2019 ford "lightning" people are referring to are aka the Nitemare f150s, they are awesome too, wish it was branded as a lightning tho

What would happen if you custom ordered a single cab with awd? And then added the blower
I don't believe Ford offers an AWD version on the non-Raptor, just rear and 4WD with auto-select (which is DEFINITELY not designed to be driven in this manner).
Now the Raptor DOES have RWD/AWD/4WD as explained in this: ua-cam.com/video/HeVUt7AdbLI/v-deo.html so it would probably work (and remain drivable) with more power being sent to all four wheels.
Chevy does have a truly-AWD in some versions of the Silverado (Also the Silverado SS had AWD, meaning all wheels are driven 30/70 under normal circumstances).
The NVG 149 Transfer Case is an example of this.
So to answer your question: you'd want to keep it in 2WD unless you enjoy replacing very expensive drivetrain components.
Tim raptor is t awd it’s 2wd or 4wd awd is 4x4 all the time and no in between it’s the same for chevy or dodge. An Audi or bmw are awd ie 4 wheel drive all the time no option to switch like the trucks.
My old man has the 4x4 version with a roush blower.

Being 'permanent' is not how you define AWD vs 4WD.
There is such a concept as permanent 4WD which you cannot disable with a button (such as the Toyota Landcruiser).
Also, Chevy 100% offers an AWD (not 4WD, not permanent 4WD... a permanent AWD drivetrain) on the Silverado and it was the only option on the SS.
Also AWD is not '4x4 all the time' hence the concept of Haldex and slip-and-grip AWD systems such as Audi's Quattro Ultra (vs Quattro Haldex and Quattro Torsen) systems,
Also... literally any small SUV is not '4x4 all the time' (or 4WD ever...).

I worked at a ford dealership that was doing this like 3 years ago with roush kits and were manual single cabs. They even put old school lighting badges on them

6 speed Trans? Didn't they introduce the 10 speed auto for the f150 in 2018? I'd much rather have that than the 6 speed auto.

I've honestly never seen this truck as a single cab before. All the time here both what is sold and what's driving around is always a dual cab. It looks really good.

I was at a Ford delership in Kansas and they had a 2019 Lightning but i dont believe it was supercharged. I think they had their shop build it up. It looked pretty sick. They had a blue and black one.

I've seen a 4WD version, lowered 4" in the back, 2" in the front with some suspension upgrades, wheels (nothing crazy or that looks out of place/far from stock) & tires that aren't as semi-sloppy in steering & launching.

The sleeper look is awesome, the sounds it makes are awesome, and it looks like the rear end has at least a 4-link rear suspension, and the truck is lowered at least 2" all-4 corners...
My dad has one of these trucks . Single cab with a Roush blower rated at the same hp , but it has 4x4. the launch in 4x4 is absolutely nuts. Dont think you mentioned if this one had 4x4 or not but pretty much looked like you were RWD the entire time .

I have a 2014 tremor with the same suspension set up like this truck
Stock turbos still but have , intake, exhaust , tune , traction bars, 305/50R20 wheels, bov, and a hole list. It’s my daily and it does the same thing as that truck does here in this video. The only difference is the exhaust note. I have had a supercharged 5.0 and a zl1 camaro. But I have had more fun as a sleeper truck than being in the other vehicles over the years. I get it , it’s a truck but the thing is sooooo much more fun to drive because it’s different!!!

Even the F150s Ford does give us right now can be made fun. A regular cab EcoBoost with basic bolt ons and a tune can be quite formidable and even the crew cab with the HO option in stock trim with just a good tune makes really decent power.
What's the exhuast setup? Long tubes? OR mid? Resonator...muffler...? Like the side exit sounds proper 👍🏻

Idk what you mean by saying column shifters are getting rare. I change oil and every single truck I’ve pulled in, new and old, has had one. But there are a few cars I’ve seen that have a weird row of buttons to press to go into gear. But those are usually new SUV’s
theres a 900 HP Tacoma on youtube. they pretty much did it up like a nascar truck and it looks insane. Also has an official TRD nascar race engine in it.
I realize companies cant go to that extreme on a production vehicle, but it would be nice to see a few high end street performance trucks on the market

I have a RAM 1500 ST with a 5.7 Hemi and I've been thinking about throwing a supercharger kit under the hood. It is already cammed and tuned, I'd love to have another 200+ HP on top of the 450 its putting to the wheels now.
Atlanta Custom Wraps made a really good looking modern Lightning for SEMA last year on the channel Wraplife. Its pretty dope.
Column Shifters are the best for automatics, manuals aren't as good but still fun, its keeps the shifter out of the way

Can't imagine that much horsepower in an F-150. I test drove a crew cab once at the dealer and felt like I could have ran over an entire kindergarten classroom without noticing.
