  • Canon cameras have come a long way but that is no reason to turn a blind eye to older DSLR's like the Canon 5D MK II. This is a breakdown of my experience with the camera and if I think you should pick one up in 2022.

    I have the 5d classic and the mk ii. They are relevant now, and will be for years to come. They were the best cameras made. Imho

      I agree. While the new tech cameras will dominate the market in the future, I believe there will still be many of us who prefer the look and feel of these DSLR cameras. I don't need a touch screen, WiFi, 50 megapixels, or AI........however, i do like the autofocus points on newer cameras. The look of these old 5Ds just do something for me that most cameras don't.

    I used the 5D2 for years as a professional portrait photographer. I got sick, and couldn't work full time. I bougth a prestine 5D2 one year ago for 180 USD. I have more cameras, but there is something about that body. Don't know what, but there IS something. :)

    I bought a 5D Mark II last March, the previous owner used it solely for video and I use it solely for photography. Best camera I've ever shot with. If I decide to start making videos I'll buy a dedicated camera, but for photography, I can't imagine ever switching from the 5D, 6D, or 7D.

    I shot my thesis film on the 5d mkii. I was in film school while the industry was transitioning from film to digital. (We started on 16mm.) My movie still holds up 13 years later because of the camera I used. A lot of friends shot in HD with 35mm adapters, I got lucky and borrowed a 5d from a friend who didn’t charge me for it. If you’re just starting out and want a great camera to start making videos and short films with, I can’t recommend this camera enough!

    canon 5d mark ii has automatic focus on video, you have to put the camera in mode A and with AF-on you select the focus and it follows it in its movements. You can help find the focus in the first instance by using the zoom

    • @cameratactics9102
      @cameratactics9102  2 роки тому +1

      And it follows you without using the back AF button? I spent so long using this camera looking for a focus mode that follows you without you having to hit a button. I watched maybe 20 different videos that said the camera does not have tracking autofocus in video.

    Still a top end camera if you have some skills, I get shots that are just as good as anything brand new… I don’t shoot much video though… To me a DSLR is just better than the cheaper to make mirrorless offerings lately… I just picked up another 5D mkII in nearly mint condition for $300, it’s an absolute steal even at twice that price.. Not a soul comments on my 110 megapixel smartphone captures, everyone looks at the 5D images and see the difference though… There’s no doubt it’s a solid workhorse body… if you need 8K and all the bells and whistles that replace artistic decisions then it might not be what you want…

    First off I am not a video shooter but I’ve been using the 5Dll since it first came out. I was motivated to buy it after viewing Vincent Laforet’s video work with it as well as the fact that an entire episode of the TV doctor series “House” was filmed solely with this camera. Might be worth checking out to see what is possible. Thanks for sharing your experience.

    I got a Canon Rebel SL2 for $400 in 2021. It is pretty good on video and has tracking autofocus. The APS-C crop makes you have to think about focal length but the pictures are good. I have never shot a full frame DSLR camera. I guess the main difference would be that you would have to get closer to your subject.

    It can only get three exposures in auto exposure bracketing. I wanted nine exposure values for totality of the eclipse. So I set C1 for the fast set, C2 for the middle set and C3 for the slowest. During totality I flipped the mode dial to C1, hit the remote, flipped to C2, hit the remote and then C3. In just a very few seconds I had my nine exposure values then ignored the camera and experienced the totality of the eclipse. It worked fine.

    I wouldn’t say that you can get a body only in “really good” condition for $400. It’s gonna be well used and likely show some wear. Something buyers should keep in mind, that’s all. Also they use older larger compact cards and do not use SD cards - so a buyer may want to also consider the cost of a card(s) and a card reader compatible with their computer to get their images to their computers for post as it also does not have any wifi, or Bluetooth capability.
    Lenses this is also important as if you are using a let’s say, canon T4i or something newer, that use EF and->EFS

    • @cameratactics9102
      @cameratactics9102  2 роки тому

      Definitely agree. It is an amazing camera and most people who are needing a camera for social media type work do not need anything better. I still had to downsize a lot of my shots to get it to work on IG. I recommend someone who is completely new to this camera to maybe get the 50mm 1.8. Its cheap enough to mess around with and grow in skill set. As for finding a body in really good condition at $400, I found mine with very little wear on it for $400 last year so I was going off of that number. But in general, old cameras will be well used and worn. Thanks for watching and for the input!

      You can buy a microSD to CF converter, so trying to find SD cards isn't an issue. Canon branded EFS lenses won't fit the camera natively. Something like a Tamron 17-50mm DI II will physically mount on the 5D Mark II, but it is designed for APS-C sensor sized cameras (for Rebel bodies, 7D, 90D, etc.), so be prepared for heavy vignetting at the corners and adjust your exposure accordingly. A decent 5D Mark II can be had for under $300. It's a workhorse.

    • @shiddy.
      @shiddy. 3 місяці тому

      it's not that an EFS lens might not work - it's that they absolutely will not work and don't even try it once
      the EFS lens definitely will mount up and look like it's okay from the outside, then when you take a picture your perfectly aligned mirror is going to come crashing down on the EFS mount
      probably not breaking the mirror, but very likely knocking it out of alignment and causing a service call ... maybe scratching the mirror ... maybe scratching the EFS lens glass as well ... feeling stupid and calling yourself bad names ... remembering the time you did this for the rest of your life ... being too embarrassed to admit that you did this - stuff like that
      they do make an adapter you can use to do this safely ... but what EFS lens is worth going through that much trouble to use?

    I really enjoy camera reviews with allot of sample pictures taken by the reviewer.
    It's not that i would buy a camera just because some youtuber got a nice picture with the camera, i just like to know other people experience, see their results.

    I now think far too much fuss is made of auto focus.
    Vloggers videoing themselves, I get it.
    But if you want to tell visual stories you have to move past the handy cam phase of shooting long takes and hoping the camera will pick up your slack. Get a lens with stabilisation, hold the lens and pull focus manually. Try composing and then shooting in 5 second bursts. You are now moving from photography to story telling. Add a monitor and use focus peaking. The results will be more forgiving and better controlled than auto systems and you will be a better maker.

    Hello there, nice detailed video. I want a camera with a good price like this & I'm aiming at using the camera to connect it to my pc & be able to get a nice quality & a blur background & having 30 fps out of it for purpose of making UA-cam videos, how do you feel about whether it could suit my needs or I should get something else instead. What's your suggestions over this or such other models like, EOS 7D, 1200D III, EOS 4000D? Is it also supported by their "EOS Webcam Utility Software" or I should get a capture card? I'd be really appreciated if u could guide me through. TYSM

  • @quazisanjeed6395
    @quazisanjeed6395 Рік тому +1

    Interesting to hear 5DII is a "beginners' camera!" In line with this, I can say Sony A1 is also a beginner's camera for people with deep pockets.
    SLR/DSLRs are real cameras that are most appropriate for still photography. I shoot wildlife and the EVF lag of MILCs is strong enough reason to disqualify it for speed photography. For indoor photography purposes; Canon 5DIV and Nikon D850 are powerhouses that no other camera can beat.
    However, we do understand manufacturers also need to buy bread & butter. That's why they are under constant compulsion to turn out new gimmicks and drive it home with massive promotions. And it works!
    But not for all.
