Do you own a Canon 5Dmkii? I cant believe that 14 years have past since this groundbreaking, game changing camera was released. What memories and experiences have you had with the 5dmkii? Would you buy one today? I use one daily. Its still my favourite stills camera of all time. What a ride it has been.
I’ve owned mine since 2009 and am only now getting into using its video capabilities. What an amazing piece of gear still, especially since I’m lucky enough to own a bunch of L lenses.

I'm just an italian amateur photographer with a lot of road in front of me in order to improve my skills, but some time ago I decided to buy a 2nd hand 5DmII. Not only because I wanted a full frame but didn't have the budget a newer one, but even because of the history of this camera. This never be sold. Insted I will keep it as a museum piece when I will be tired of shooting with...and I don't think that it is going to happen soon ;)
I'm about to pull the trigger on one with 60k shutter count for 350 euros. I own 6d mk2 and I love it. I want 5d-mk2 for the nifty fifty attached to it all time.
Absolutely love my 5Dmk2... There's something special about the image that it produces. It's the workhorse that never gets old, and always delivers. Props
You know something? I was always little scared expressing love for my 5D Classic and 5DII. However, after watching this video and a couple of others; now I can declare boldly - I don't need the R5 or R6 to make better photos. My two old workhorses can perform the tasks equally well if not better. I shoot landscape and street life with these DSLRs as a hobbyist. Just love them. Old is gold and Gold is never old. Thanks again for the video.
Yes sir! Especially paired with some vintage glass (manual, albeit) and you now have full frame individuality not sterile uniformity. There's a reason cornbread tastes way better when cooked in an antique cast iron skillet!
@@cinechimp housed in an Aquatica housing at about 58 M. No stabilisation and I have uploaded this in SD not 1080 (cant remember why I did that !) but you get the idea
@@mcelliot Oh man super nice. Dang I looked at an aquatica housing back in the day and fell off my chair at the price tag. Those front domes. I wonder if the housings how come down in price for the 5dmkii as well. I should check that out....any advice?
I have inherited a 5D mkII from my son in law who has upgraded and am learning to use it after a 50D. The fact that he “borrowed” it back for a wedding shoot says something I think… great to hear it’s very worth having.
Well you are a lucky man. The 5Dmkii are great cameras with fantastic colours, enough resolution, great ergonomics and a easy to understand menu system. Really what more could you want from a digital stills camera. And you’re exactly right - the fact he has “borrowed it back” says everything anyone needs to know
Bought mine with grip from a profesional a couple of years ago. Love it . Also like the way my viewfinder shows full colour fulltime without the need for batteries.......
exactly, a 5dmkii /iii/iv will last way longer than any mirrorless camera will. If you have an original grip and you're shooting video, PRO tip - if you start the recording with the battery door open, you can hot swap batteries if need.
My Uncle gifted me his old 5D Mkii after seeing my photos from a T7i. After shooting with it for the last few months I’ve decided to pick up another on EBay for around $380. Phenomenal camera for beginners.
Hi, İsaac. I want to buy that camera. What is your experience with mark ii? My worries is about autofocus. Is mark 2's autofocus so much worse than t7i? Or even know it's acceptible? I know outer points isn't good, they always say "use center point". How often mark 2 struggling with autofocus?
Thank you for this....this video answered lots of questions I had about this camera....though I will say a close friend swears by the look this camera produces. I'm sold now. Cheers from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
My 5d Mark II is still kicking butt. Photography has never been about having the most advanced and newest equipment and has always been about what the photographer does with the equipment they have! Bravo!
I bought one this year from a fellow member of a photography forum. This came with the battery grip, original OEM consumer boxes and packaging as well as all the original paperwork and manuals. The shutter count is less than 1200. The camera is practically NIB. He practically gave the camera to me. It's an amazing camera. I sold my 5D and used the money to buy the Mark II. With so many guys dumping their DSLRs for mirrorless you can get amazing deals on gently used equipment. This camera for what I use it for is amazing. I'm glad I made the deal.
You nailed it. All you need to do to find a great DSLR is look in the photography trade magazines. Personally I dont use either of my mirrorless cameras for photography. And boy oh boy you got a great deal. 1200 shutter clicks. AMAZING.
@@cinechimp My favorite lens for the MkII is the EF 35mm f/2 IS USM. I haven't used any other lens since. I have just about decided to dump my zoom lenses for prime. I also have an EF 50mm f/1.4 USM. My next will likely be an EF 100mm f/2.8 USM
Got one 3 days ago with 46k clicks and I totally love it. I plan to buy a 5D classic as well. Those things are legends and absolutely well built. In the continuity of the F1 and the New-F1.
I've had two 5d classics which I ruined while attaching a battery pack from B&H. They shorted out during a wedding of ALL places. Luckily, I had my 40D and was able to knock out the rest of the day with that one. I shoot photography as well as videography. Within the past 2 yrs I've been doing lots of video work with my lumix g7 (4k) and said I was going to grab either a 5d2 or 5d3. Well, I just grabbed a 5d3 off ebay for $200 2 days ago and will probably either STILL grab a 5D3 or a panisonic gh5 for additional angles for video work. Ebay also has the 6D for around $230-300 as well. I'm glad you mentioned the 5D classic with those lowly 12mp, but even after just recently using a Canon R5 (WOW), there's still the "look" the classic gives you and I can't wait for my 5D2 to arrive Tuesday.
I got a 5D MkII about a year ago when my third 5D classic died. I loved the simplicity of the classic, but, honestly, the handling improvements and the better pixel-count have improved my experiences. I've never shot video with it, but you've tempted me sorely. (I also have an Olympus EM-1 MkII which is a cinematic wonder by comparison.) Thanks for speaking up about this stuff.
I just ordered one upgrading from the 5D classic for the video capability. I like the look of the video from the mark ii and think it will work for more gritty short films that I'm wanting to make as well a stop motion projects. Great video!

I’m still using it today. I’m on the lookout to upgrade to a mirrorless, but I came to assure and appreciate what a workhorse my lovely little camera has been and will continue to be.
I shot on a big documentary with 5d ii that won numerous awards, watched it on numerous big screens in film festivals and it still looks good, I had the cheapest camera by at least $50000 and the editors said they went to my shots first for every take. Helped launch my career. With Magic lantern it's even better but that hd 8 bit beast has a special place in my hart
Thank you for the video. I'm a hobbyist landscape and street photographer using Canon gears since 2009. I use 5DII and 5D Classic for these purposes and never felt they let me down even once. The shots below par are my mistakes; not attributable to the cameras. Fully satisficed with these gems. I also shoot wildlife wherein use 1DIV and 7D. However, sometimes do try the full frame bodies. And there again, they don't disappoint me for static subjects. Just love them.
Wow thats a great repertoire of cameras you have. And I totally agree man, theses older camera like the 5D and the mkii are still so good. Just goes to show, sometimes older can be better
Thank you for this video! For years, I've wanted to go from crop sensor to full frame (I'm an amateur photographer) to widen my horizons and explore photography with a different perspective. Naturally, I looked at newer models but I saw someone's comment somewhere else that "better equipment don't make better photographers" and if you're not good with the 5dmii, you probably won't be good with a $5000 camera. So I've been watching more videos to justify buying a 15 year old camera but wow. I'm convinced. I'm ready to try out something new and challenge myself as a photographer:) thank you for your video. Amazing encouragement.
I picked a 5DII on my recent trip to Tokyo. I've been shooting video a lot over the past couple of years on eosm cameras with Magic Lantern. I have to say this camera is fantastic, I never thought moving to full frame would make much of a difference, but it does. After a couple of discussions the will colleagues we've come to the conclusion that the sensor on this camera is a digital equivalent to film. The look changes moving to the mark 3 and newer cameras.
I wish people would stop calling this camera a beginner camera because its misleading, t3s an t3i rebels of the world are great “beginner cameras”, i just feel like a person just now starting out would get overwhelmed trying to use a 5d but the camera is phenomenal i picked one up two weeks ago an loveeee loveee lovee it ,big upgrade from my t3i
I think when people refer to it as a beginner camera, perhaps this has more to do with price point than the capabilities - a used 5DMKii is far cheaper than an R10. The R10 will be easier to use, because technology - buts it's a greater risk for someone starting out because of the higher price point. Glad you are enjoying yours...
@@cinechimp understandable…you make valid points sir…thats fair 🤝 i lovee the new technology but its something about dslrs for me i dont know maybe im old school lol but yessir its my new workhorse 🤙🏿
As a Fuji x user always wanted to try one… bought one this week for 300 euros to go along my very first 50mm f1.8 II from my film era… can’t wait to see ! Greetings from France !
I have bought 5D Mk II several months ago for 200€ with cca 96 000 shots made, but fully functional and in very good condition. I have other DSLRs, for example similar in age 500D or much newer 80D, but this old machine is my most favorite. This piece of hardware feels very solid in hand, like a brick, is very simple to control, and one can concentrate on making photos instead of looking for the right button or menu item. For present days it is a bit slow, but still fast enough to satisfy most of mid-range photographers. In most situations it is fast enough and extremely reliable.
I think the 5dmk2 is going to be my next camera. I currently have a t7i and it's a fine camera, but I feel very stifled by the crop sensor. A 5d is very affordable and provides me the larger frame I've been lacking for so long.
Same here! Ive had the 1200D for 6 years and I've been able to create such great art with it. I want to expand my knowledge and scope in photography by going full frame. I found one 5dmii for $300 so I feel lucky to have found so many people in the same place as me :D
14 years. Crazy. I got one of these years ago from a pawn shop. It's long gone since. But, another pawn shop has one now. I may have to scoop it up! And I know them personally, so I may get a steal on it!
Snap it up. For photography work they are still amazing. And for online content, if you require video they are still passable. Its all about light, framing and lens choice. So have a look and see if they have any bargain lenses you can get cheap with the 5dmkii as well.
I’d like to see that video! I shot everything from documentaries to headshots to maternity photos with this camera while serving as a combat photojournalist for the army. This camera is a TANK! Went mirrorless for several years and the size difference (ergonomics) effects my shot. Seeing I can get a mkii for almost $200 is insane
Hey there, I just checked out your channel. Some of of the stuff you posted 7 years ago (shot with the Eos 5Dmkii?) looks superb. How come you didn't continue to post that stuff?
I was returning to DSLR photography after a brief stint with Mirrorless and no doubt Mirrorless is fantastic the sharpness that you can get with some of the mirrorless cameras and lenses is unbelievable but I wasn’t enjoying my photography and having sold all my Canon bodies i bit the bullet admitted the mistake and started again and I looked for a Canon 5D all the ones that I could find we’re not very good but I came across a fiveD mark two for sale in the north of Scotland for £299 with a low count of less than 1000 shutter actuations I snapped it up i was using some of my EF lenses adapted to my Sony Mirrorless so I kept the EF lenses namely 85 mil 1.8 28 mil 1.8 and an old 35 to 70 from the film era and a 40 mil pancake and I’ve fallen in love with photography all over again
Hi! I watched your video just now. I’m a happy owner of a 5D Mark II that I’ve used for over 10-years. It’s my workhorse and my only camera. I photograph headshots and portraits but I’ve photographed buildings, political rallies, motorcycle races and shows, weddings, etc. I was beginning to think I should trade her in, but watching your video made me love Workhorse more. She gets the daggone thing done. Thank you!!😊
Great video. It's sad these days that people get so hyped on gas they forget that the gear they own is more than good enough for their needs. I've had a 5d II but sold it to get a 5d III which I still use alongside my 5d classic. Newer gear definitely makes your life easier but doesn't make you a better photographer or videographer imo. I'm still thrilled and impressed with photos from my 5d classic that anyone getting or owning a 5d II should be just as thrilled with results.
I just bought one today from Amazon - less than 1000 clicks on it, says it's excellent condition for 275 I'm really, really looking forward to it arriving I got a 8-15mm F4 fisheye as a special treat to go along with it
My first and only full frame camera. I do photography at most and i have never had to upgrade. if it aint broke dont replace it... keep shooting. the pics on the lcd display dont look good but eish... download them to your pc and heavens just open. this is a good stills camera!!!!!!
I just bought one. I used to run a small private photography practice up until 3 years ago using just 2 5D classics with asst L series lenses. Now I'm restarting my practice so I decided it was time for an upgrade ha ha. For me the 21 megapixel image is almost too much to work with, I'm so used to my nice tidy 12.6 mp image on the classic, but the increased ISO range and somewhat faster shooting make it a nice little upgrade I think. I only use it for photography so can't speak to the video but hearing this I am going to have to try the video. I'm looking forward to trying it out.
Got one on eBay. My first full frame camera after a series of crops. I use it mainly for photos... eish...i haven't found a need to upgrade to newer bodies. The colors from the camera are just complete.
I'm still on a 5Dii and happy as ever... if I compare with my F1 and Tri-x i used in the 1980s the 5Dii is a true marvel. Just look at the fabulous photos professionals took with the 5Dii when it was released, proving that a skilled person can create magnificent workmanship with it. The camera has not deteriorated and got worse with time, it's still as good as it was when released 😉
Oh I totally agree. I used my mine today over my Canon R5 for some products shots. I really do prefer a a mirrored shutter for exposure and the prolonged battery life over its newer sibling.
I still have mine, along with my Nikon D800, and I have no intention of upgrading either of them. They do everything that I want. I don't need 50 MP nor do I need 256 focus points, or two dozen focus modes to photograph an armpit or the nasal hair.
Still use mine for commercial work, on 250k shutter actuations now, no paint left on some parts of it, patina they call it - stick some good prime lenses on it, it's sensor is seriously awesome! Still making me ££
Thank you, ser! Absolutely good words. It is about filming and not just what camera you use! Camera does matter. But nowadays, there is so many good options, that. It realy comes down more to skill... Or just will!!! actualy...
You're a Genius, my Friend!! Thank You for sharing your wealth of knowledge and experience with us. Your work is Phenomenal. Best Wishes to you and your loved ones, from the U.S. 💙
I also never went with the new camera hypes. I had the 5d Markii from 2008 till 2014, than i bought the Samsung NX1 for 4k video and still use it as my prime camera, as a full time videographer since 17 years.
I have been down the same road. From the 5D II I bought an NX1 (also very advanced for its time) and later a second one to make multi-camera recordings. It's a pity that one day the shutter on the Canon broke. The Samsungs are wonderful, but I miss the full frame feeling. Too bad Samsung closed its camera division, I'm sure an NX2 would have been a revolutionary camera too. I think I'll go for a Lumix S5IIX to do jobs now because the NX1s are already starting to falter, but I don't rule out buying a 5DII to repeat experiences with Magic Lantern; for the small price difference, that's a better option than a Canon M also with ML?

I still shoot on one of these. Cf is a bitch to work with these days but its still a beast, only thing it lacks that modern cameras do is low light, 4k and better autofocus. Still shoots killer 1080p video especially if you grab up the technicolor cinestyle profile and the color science for the stills is still legendary. There is that same je ne sais quoi for the 5d ii color science as the leica "glow" or the "alexa look".
Ben your'e comment nails the current 5dmkii experience to a tee. Imagine putting some of these new affordable Anamorphic FF lens on it. Yeah it may only be HD acquisition, but hot damn I recon you could make it look sweet.
Both are good cameras, but it really comes down to what lenses you want to invest in. Full frame or cropped. So EF vs EFS. EF will serve you better into the future.
If you want to know where your skill & talent level are at, go use a 5d2 or gh3 or 4 and get to work. That's for video. With photography use a 5d classic. That should give you an idea of where you are.
Likewise. Its funny you say that the cost of media was high. I remember this too. But I also remember that when the camera first came out it overheated in video mode. Had not exposure control (auto only) in video mode. And Canon acted quickly to fix it all via firmware. Sounds like the R5....just a 14 years earlier.
Great video ! I subscribed =) I just bought a 5D2 and I have a 5D1, 5D3 and 1DX. I love my 5D classic a lot and I don't imagine selling it. But for 5D2 and 5D3, I can't observe image quality difference. The 5D2 look more "creamy" but 5D3 is gorgeous to... Difficult to make a choice. But if we skip AF, both looks identical with image quality What do you think about that ?
Oh for sure without a good 6k 10bit native monitor, its going to be hard telling the difference between the 5dmkii and 5Dmkiii is both are exposed correctly. If anyone can "see a difference" on the web - they must have beyond excellent eyesight. Thanks for the positivity and the sub brother and thats awesome collection of 5 series cams you have there!
@@cinechimp Thanks for reply. After a lot of tests, I think the 5D2 have a more accurate AWB, soft red and gray color and more warm brown :) On the 5D3, the red tones are more punchy For my camera collection, I would like to sell one... But... Which. Maybe 5D3, maybe not. So difficult to make a choice =D
@@jonathandegard And then you have the Canon r8 and r50 released today....I sold my 5dmkiii because the RAW files cant be read in resolve still to this day. Whereas the older 5dmkii RAW photo files sequences can be imported and manipulated like any RAW video file. That was the determining factor for me.
Good insights. So I’m long time Nikon w/ newer to modem Canon EF. My roadmap is likely a R5 II for vintage adapted M42. I like the little M50 II for more lens mod options. Is it worthy starting w/ 5D II 1st & work me way into full frame mirrorless bringing all my old Nikon glass & collect some EF
Great video and yes... ideas and creativity beats having the latest tech and gear. Also constraints are good for creativity. Have you ever done the 5D MK2 in depth video? Just came across your channel - do you have any vids about story telling?
Awesome video and great use of a great camera. It will always be the person behind the camera vs what camera he/she is using. Basic concepts for story will always apply and this is a perfect example of that. My only question is about the LUT used, I am guessing this was added in post and not in camera? I know there are 3rd party software were this was available for these DSLR cameras. Anyway, thanks for the great video.
good question, as for the LUTS - with the 5dmkii I use the cinestyle LUT from Technicolor, which is a direct download from their website www.technicolor.com/cinestyle that will take you to the downloader page

If you have the budget, the native 50mm F1.2 for video, if you’re doing stills 85 F1.2 or a cheap all round is a 17 to 40 F4 EF. All can be found relatively cheap these days used. Otherwise Sigma EF used is a good bet and they are excellent lenses.

Great questions. As the 5Dmkii is an older camera with no IBIS, I always use a compact shoulder rig with a K&H Variable ND. There is no post stabilisation.
I would love to see a video on the 5D mark ii. I am also an owner wondering if I should upgrade. My biggest issue is autofocus and finding the proper exposures.
@@orteganism Oh okay. You will be able to get a better representation of your exposure if you use the optical eyepiece and DOF preview button at the front of the camera. Then you will actually see how much light is hitting the sensor with the push of a button. Another great way to understand how to use digital cameras opposed to film cameras is to shoot RAW and in B&W, so that you train your eyes to only see exposure and contrast. That will help you understand how the sensor is interpolating luminance values and how they correspond to the internal exposure meter.
Just bought 5dmk2 for 250 euros. Absofu*king lutely worth it. I still didnt shoot in raw with magic lantern, but video looks amazing already out of the camera. Photos aswell... But there is an option to do 1920 raw vido with ML!!! Wich is amazing!!

Very interesting and informative video, thank you! I just picked one up, and would appreciate more stuff on this cameras. So far I'm impressed with the quality feel, the colors, and it's actually quite silent. I hope you still use that AE-1 Program, a great camera with an excellent viewfinder.
Hi there, oh fantastic. Im positive it will ge you many wonderful photographs or videos for the coming years. Oh I would love to still be using the AE1, but unfortunately when we moved to France, a tiny screw fell out of the bottom of it. My Canon rep start with Canon France the year my camera was released as a service tech. He said, if that tiny screw has come out, its almost impossible to fix.....that was a sad day....I love that camera.
Fun fact, the 5d mk 2 holds the record for most published images of all time. It’s only beaten in the online world by the iPhone, purely due to the sheer number of them in the world.
Focus pulling on f1.2... respect! Great work. Just want to ask, is there any way to nail video focus other then eyballing it? I've got a 5Dmii but seems a hassle to use with manual (vintage) lenses because of that, also for photography. Or am I missing something?
Hi there, when shooting video or live view for stills you can use the magnify buttons on the back of the camera, top right. They are marked in blue. These can be used no matter the lens. However if you are using the viewfinder and mirrored shutter, you have to eyeball it for stills when using manual lenses.
Yes, for a start you are comparing FF vs as cropped sensor. If you are just beginning, its still better to invest in a FF camera and lenses as if you start with APSC lenses and body, if you ever step up to FF - they just become dead money and hard to resell on the used market. FF cameras fair better in the long run. The 5dmkii is a perfect example of this, but so is the 5Dmkiii which you can snap up for under 1K with a lens.
It's honestly astounding to me these days how cheap the 5Dmk2 can be... Once upon a time I had a 550D, and sold that to a family member because I wasn't using it much. I've now got the bug again to use something better than my phone, and I was looking at new mirrorless bodies, but a 5Dmk2 for $500AUD is utterly bonkers to me, considering the price I remember them selling for back in the day.
I still believe to this day that the Canon 5Dmkii is the best camera Canon has ever sold. It really was lightning in a bottle on release. And you are right, back then in Aus, I think I paid 3500 AUD for my first one. Now they are in the hundreds and many have very low shutter activations as they were primarily used as video cameras. So for photographers looking for a good upgrade cheap upgrade thats the question to ask.
I want to buy my first full frame camera, and found this canon 5D Mark II cheap on the market, was wondering if that would be a good purchase in 2024, and by watching this video looks like it

Nothing wrong with vintage gear. I still think the 5Dmkii has a better build quality than my R5
Yes sir! Especially paired with some vintage glass (manual, albeit) and you now have full frame individuality not sterile uniformity. There's a reason cornbread tastes way better when cooked in an antique cast iron skillet!
You are my guy... you took all my words
Yes, I would absolutely love to see an in-depth video on the Canon 5D MKII!!!!
I just bought a used 5D Mkii and feel excited - your video gave me even more enthusiasm ... thanks so much - subbed and thumbed up.
Thanks for the sub! And keep me informed on how you progress...

Hi there, Now thats something I mention. I only have a small bit of water footage in the video. What are you mainly shooting underwater?
Having a full frame canon that can deliver so beautifully is timeless.
My Uncle gifted me his old 5D Mkii after seeing my photos from a T7i. After shooting with it for the last few months I’ve decided to pick up another on EBay for around $380. Phenomenal camera for beginners.
EXACTLY
Hey Bruce, glad it was helpful! If you have any questions you don’t hesitate to reach out.
I bought one last fall with 12 clicks on it for $300. Amazing images. Easy to use. Quality build.
What a 5Dmkii bargain find! Amazing.
I got one on eBay that had 11.000 shots on it for about 250€. Probably the cheapest way for me into full frame photography.
AMAZING.

Got one 3 days ago with 46k clicks and I totally love it. I plan to buy a 5D classic as well. Those things are legends and absolutely well built. In the continuity of the F1 and the New-F1.
Great purchase and thoughtful observations.
Good choice! When you start pumping out stop motions, send me some links!

I appreciate that!
This is such an inspiring video!
oh thanks Dionne, thats super nice of you
I shot on a big documentary with 5d ii that won numerous awards, watched it on numerous big screens in film festivals and it still looks good, I had the cheapest camera by at least $50000 and the editors said they went to my shots first for every take. Helped launch my career. With Magic lantern it's even better but that hd 8 bit beast has a special place in my hart
A classic will always be worth it. Nuff said!
true that
Thank you for the video.
I have 2 of them and I love the results in 2022.

Amazing encouragement.
thanks for the positivity. I have no doubts that if you get a good one, you will really enjoy it.
Oh you are dead right the look changes in a major way from the 5dmkii to the 3. Well observed.
I agree with what you said The look change moving to 5DMK3 and 5DMK4 which I had never owned them or envy to upgrade.
each of the mki, mkii, and mkiii have their own sub-flavour of canon magic in their respective sensors.
My wife just bought me a used one. I've never owned a DSLR, but love photography. I'm excited about it!
oh fantastic
Great video. I just ordered a 5D MKII for astrophotography, got it for 250 euros. Saved me a fortune, since I was going to get a new camera.
Nice one!

In most situations it is fast enough and extremely reliable.
what a bargain!
I think the 5dmk2 is going to be my next camera. I currently have a t7i and it's a fine camera, but I feel very stifled by the crop sensor. A 5d is very affordable and provides me the larger frame I've been lacking for so long.
I think you hit the nail on the head!

Same here! Ive had the 1200D for 6 years and I've been able to create such great art with it. I want to expand my knowledge and scope in photography by going full frame. I found one 5dmii for $300 so I feel lucky to have found so many people in the same place as me :D
Yes, please do a video about photography with this camera. Great video!

14 years.
I got my 5D mk ii this year (bought the classic version a year or two ago) most impressed.

Oh thats awesome! And thanks for the positive vibes.
Hi Phil, this is exactly what I think about the 5dmkii. You summed it up perfectly.
Thank you!!😊
run it till it stops brother!
I'm still thrilled and impressed with photos from my 5d classic that anyone getting or owning a 5d II should be just as thrilled with results.

couldn't have said it better brother
I just bought one. I used to run a small private photography practice up until 3 years ago using just 2 5D classics with asst L series lenses. Now I'm restarting my practice so I decided it was time for an upgrade ha ha. For me the 21 megapixel image is almost too much to work with, I'm so used to my nice tidy 12.6 mp image on the classic, but the increased ISO range and somewhat faster shooting make it a nice little upgrade I think. I only use it for photography so can't speak to the video but hearing this I am going to have to try the video. I'm looking forward to trying it out.
Looking forward to seeing what you create
Great video. I have just bought one these cameras. I am great full for your honest opinion
Good choice! Ive been shooting with 2 this week…. dont think I will ever let them go….

This was amazing. Thank you for making this video.
thanks for the positivity
I still have mine, along with my Nikon D800, and I have no intention of upgrading either of them. They do everything that I want. I don't need 50 MP nor do I need 256 focus points, or two dozen focus modes to photograph an armpit or the nasal hair.
Now you raise some great points.
Still use mine for commercial work, on 250k shutter actuations now, no paint left on some parts of it, patina they call it - stick some good prime lenses on it, it's sensor is seriously awesome! Still making me ££
Hi Dan, So do I. Clients love the images and I love the patina. ;)

I also never went with the new camera hypes. I had the 5d Markii from 2008 till 2014, than i bought the Samsung NX1 for 4k video and still use it as my prime camera, as a full time videographer since 17 years.
Creative talent and the technical skill to execute your ideas is far more important than the latest equipment. Old doesn't equal bad.
My original 5d has died! Going to be buying a 5d MKii tomorrow! Can’t wait to get back to creating stuff with this! 😊

Nice video. Just picked one up off Ebay for $325. Older DSLRs and EF glass are a steal these days.
That they are my friend. Especially the tilt shift glass. They are mad cheap now.
Should I get the 5D mark II or the EOS 700D
Both are good cameras, but it really comes down to what lenses you want to invest in. Full frame or cropped. So EF vs EFS. EF will serve you better into the future.
Very cool video. I've been thinking of upgrading from my rebel to either a mk2 or a mk3, so thanks for all the info.
That would be a huge upgrade - you should go for it.
If you want to know where your skill & talent level are at, go use a 5d2 or gh3 or 4 and get to work. That's for video.
With photography use a 5d classic.
That should give you an idea of where you are.
Very good point - The canon 5mkii is all you really need to take great photos videos or evern like you say the mki...

Amazing camera still specially if you get the raw hack! When it first came out the media was to expensive but now its not so I still use mine.
Likewise. Its funny you say that the cost of media was high. I remember this too. But I also remember that when the camera first came out it overheated in video mode. Had not exposure control (auto only) in video mode. And Canon acted quickly to fix it all via firmware. Sounds like the R5....just a 14 years earlier.
id love to see the photos on the 5D mark iii because I will be getting one this December.

The 5D2 look more "creamy" but 5D3 is gorgeous to... Difficult to make a choice. But if we skip AF, both looks identical with image quality
What do you think about that ?
Oh for sure without a good 6k 10bit native monitor, its going to be hard telling the difference between the 5dmkii and 5Dmkiii is both are exposed correctly.
Good stuff! All solid choices. EF or PL is the way, mirrorless lens can trap you in a system.

Hi Christopher, ok noted. Which lenses are you using with your 5Dmkii? Are you using live view or the viewfinder to set exposures?
@@cinechimp i only have the 24-105 F4 lens. I use the viewfinder only when I’m setting exposure.
Oh thats a great price! Well found.
Great video, mate ! I'm sold, I'm buying one. I have a Fuji Xpro2 for my street photography but I wanna start shooting portraits. This might be the ticket, with a good lens ?
Oh that Xpro2 is a great camera for street photography. I shoot all my street photography with either a 50 F1.2. Been thinking of putting out a video about street photography....
New to this channel - nice clips and content. I’d be curious to see a video where you discuss your favourite lenses to use with the 5 mark ii for both stills and video. Cheers
Great suggestion!
I have two!! Bought them right around the time Canon was about to discontinue them and got them discounted!
Nice!! Super smart move.
@@cinechimp been thinking about loading ML onto one of them. Have you ever thought about doing that to one of yours?
Yes I have don that and the result are fairly good. Finding cards that can keep up with the better recording options is the real issue.
Still use until right now
Fun fact, the 5d mk 2 holds the record for most published images of all time. It’s only beaten in the online world by the iPhone, purely due to the sheer number of them in the world.
now that is a true fun fact...
Fun fact, all isis videos were shot on a 5d mk 2 and nifty fifty.
Would you say it has better quality than a canon t7i ?
Yes, for a start you are comparing FF vs as cropped sensor. If you are just beginning, its still better to invest in a FF camera and lenses as if you start with APSC lenses and body, if you ever step up to FF - they just become dead money and hard to resell on the used market. FF cameras fair better in the long run. The 5dmkii is a perfect example of this, but so is the 5Dmkiii which you can snap up for under 1K with a lens.
I have the walimex pro lesns 85 mm 1.5 and 35 mm 1.5 and the combination with a Mark II is fantastic.
Sounds like an awesome camera lens combo
Which was your favorite lenses on 5d for video
oh thats an easy question to answer, Canon EF 50mm F1.2L
I want to buy my first full frame camera, and found this canon 5D Mark II cheap on the market, was wondering if that would be a good purchase in 2024, and by watching this video looks like it
HI Adrian I own a lot of cameras, image quality hasn't changed that much in the last decade or so. Features have, like AF, touch flippy screens, lens mounts, etc - but I still wish I could have owned a 5dmkii as my first full frame camera when I started out. Today I am still making my from my 5dmkiis, so theres no reason why you cant.….besides the best camera you can use is the one you have. What are you currently shooting on now?
@@cinechimp I got a Canon 450D some years ago and recently I found it and been enjoying photography again. Wanna upgrade to something better and see where it takes me.
@@adrianxrodrigues well that would be a massive upgrade - Im sure you’ll love it
I have one and going to give it to my friend's daughter as a graduation present with a kit of stuff.
Dude you're a saint! Thats legendary.
@@cinechimp I wanted her to have something solid to start with
Things I wish I had starting out.
@@njrivetelite Thats incredible mate. And likewise......its hard working to save up for that first camera
I`ve bought one back in the days. Shot a few photos and made some videos.
I sold it asap because it was worse than my trusty 1Ds.
Switched to Sony, never looked back.
I never got the hype, even back then.
each to their own….
