- I wasn't particularly fond of the Amagi initially - the turret bug meant that she was, effectively, a tier 8 Nagato with worse armour. But the bug has been fixed, so it's time to once again try this T8 battlecruiser and see if the grind for Yamato has become less hostile.

Even with the turret bug, Amagi was so undervalued. Part of the problem with the ship is the sudden change in style in the IJN BB tech line. It’s great at second line engagements and fantastic at kiting away. It’s a great damage farmer that can’t really do everything you might want a BB to do. Once you get used to the play style required, it’s a great ship.
Purely from the stats, Amagi is a worse ship than Nagato in almost all aspects. Yes, she gains a turret, but has worse belt armour, worse dispersion, and 0 sigma, which means she really struggles to get shells on target at range.
I completely agree that it's a switch in style. Nagato is an excellent mid-range brawler for her tier. Amagi wants to be long range/kite, but for me, the way she really shines is in a battlecruiser style. Stay ranged at first, and swoop in to support the battle line, but don't go alone. In that regard, she's pretty unique, since Izumo is just relegated to back-row artillery, and it's not until Yama that we're getting a general-purpose BB like Nagato again.
I like the Amagi, even if it's not as good in its tier as the Nagato is. I think the biggest problem is that all the other BBs in the Japanese line are heavy duty battleships meant to take and give a punch, while the Amagi was a battlecruiser designed to kite and maneuver around the map, instead of slugging it out or long range sniping.
That pretty much sums it up, although Izumo is similarly odd in that she combines Yamato's size with weak armour, relegating her to long-range gunnery. Yama herself is where we get that Nagato feel back. Amagi works best as a battlecruiser, supporting actual battleships with second-line fire from mid-range. Alone, she's much less capable.
@FunandGameswithTerry Oh yeah, I forgot about the Izumo because I've only gotten as far as the Amagi. The Izumo was easy prey in my grind to the GK and Montana. I'd like the Yamato, but I'm not sure I want to spend a month or two grinding through that ship.
Even before the Buff and the turret bug I really enjoyed the Amagi so much so that I kept mine (she has the highest DPM among all the tier VIII Battleships and as long as there is not an Atlantico on the enemy team you can always finish on top.
Theoretical dpm... Zero sigma & worse dispersion than Nagato... 😉
I really like playing more mid-range, those 410s really shine, and that's where for me the bugfix really has changed things

I knew you liked that one ;) Honestly, for me, it's the turret bug fix that has made all the difference. You could play before with a kiting approach, but that just feels meh in a BB that has worse dispersion & sigma than Nagato. Amagi for me really shines if you can manage to get into mid-range and get those guns on target.

Even with turret bug i remember kiting some bismarck and North Carolina with this thing. Strong ship but needs a cautious gameplay as it has no armor.
And zero sigma dispersion, with a higher max than Nagato...
I've finally returned to the IJN bb line after 5 years!
Amagi is up next, love bb play but this lines dispersion was disappointing.

Best t-9 BB for ranked play?
In T9 ranked, my current favorite BB ship is the Marlborough (currently in the shipyard). And in random against T10, of course the mains guns range is short, but this ship stay really efficient.
Just thinking of tech tree, I'd probably go in Freddy. 5v5, not too many teammates to distract the enemy. Iowa could be fun, decent speed & range to cover half the map. Would have to check all the premiums...
Amagi is actually a extremely fun ship, not quite as fun as the Nc in my opinion, but still a great ship. And for the turret bug, it wasn’t that bad
Personally, I really disliked the bug. With a mobile, battlecruiser style, most of the times I could only use 8 guns, making her a worse Nagato.

I haven't play the Amagi since the fixed of the turret bugs and since I have unlock the Yamato.
That's was strange because i have play a lot with the T7 Ashikata and not have a lot of problems with this bugs, perhaps because I use a lot the free view to keep my guns on the good side.
Today play 5 battles with the premium Kii to see, and now with precision and not turret traverse speed...and amazing battle. I'm gonna to try Amagi again now.

Terry seriously Yamamoto on amagi??? 😮😮 if its an tech ship what can we do on Yamato... I mean if it's premium...we help each other
I can think of a couple of scenarios where someone would have Yamamoto on Amagi. Pulled him from a crate, trying to grind Yama, might as well get the XP. Or maybe someone has a couple premiums, but no interest in taking on Izumo, so they just stay at Amagi & use Yamamoto there as well...
Actually I played the Japanese battleship line but I stopped at the Amagi because the bug like if I want to fire all of my guns I need to go almost or full broadside and the Amagi has weak armor if it shows broadside so that's why I quit the Japanese battleship line

She definitely has frustrating moments with the armor and the guns, but, at the same time, you'll have very good games too.
It's a team ship. As in, "give the enemy something else to shoot at"-team.
