Sounds a bit like a UMX A10 that's had a few too many bacon cheeseburgers. Beautiful F22, though. 4 minutes on 4s2200 in a TWIN is pretty impressive. Must be super efficient. Great filming, Heidi 👍
what a little beauty. I cant believe how sharp she can turn. Love the xfly planes. They do make upgraded landing gear ive used on the a10 and x7 64mm. 16 bucks on Amazon if anybody is interested. Thanks adam. Cant wait for the next one. By the way. Your doing awesome on your channel. Horizon affiliate and everything else.
Hey Adam and Heidi, first of all, thx a lot for sharing. I bought this as my first EDF and it’s such a joy to fly. You and some other UA-camrs inspire me to fly more and more and this is by far the most rewarding remote control hobby of them all. Although I love bashing some cars with my son, racing mini z with my friends or go sailing when the weather is nice and windy. Greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
Neat little EDF model, Adam. Interesting that this will fly, with twin 40mms, for nearly twice as long as XFly's twin 50mm Su-27... both on a 2200 4s. Goes to show the efficiency of the twin 40 setup... and it gets the job done. Nice model - well done XFly, well done Team Model AV8R!
That looks like a really fun little EDF! I like the whoosh sound. There is a bit too much high pitch on top for my liking but it's $170 and runs on cheap packs so ...
Great work Heidi. Great review of this little hand tosser. I am impressed on your set up page you specified the airplane CG as upside down. That was very cool. And as always Jedi Master Adam showed us this planes full capability in the wind. Enjoyed watching as always.
you can always make a new flat spot on the front wheel so you can use the spacer for better takeoff aoa, not to try to correct your choice but to add an alternative option for others, love your channel
Wow, you posted early, wonderful. Enjoying Friday night. Could you have shaved the nose wheel washer a bit Adam? Great little jet & so well filmed Heidi.💫anything twin i love the sound!
I'm getting 3 minutes on a 3S 2200 in my Motion RC version 1, 64 mm Freewing. Was looking to upgrade to the 4S but I love the idea of twin 40's and the option to use thrust diff. If it truly gets 4 minutes on a 4S 2200 I'm definitely sold! Lord knows we need more flight times with these EDF's.
This is one of the reasons why I did not do a detailed unboxing and assembly. I know someone would😊 I was wondering about the cg though. The book said 80mm, I saw you did 90mm. My spektrum 2200 30c are making it tail heavy around 90mm so I guess it will be fine. Hopefully maiden mine this Sunday 🙏
I didn't expect to like this plane but was VERY impressed with its flying qualities. So much to keep the pilot interested, with its great speed range, agility, ability to fly in a remarkable scale like manner/speed, excellent manners in the flare, stall, instant/high G turns etc. and a cool twin EDF sound. I loved it. Rudder control would be good though in order to explore its potential to the max (could this be done without too much weight penalty though?). On the issue of its non vertical climb ability and energy management, I think (esp as I am a glider pilot) that having to manage energy only adds to the flying interest. Sometimes when I look at v powerful planes I'm left thinking this is a rocket with optional wings: it doesn't so much fly manoeuvres as power through them. So I think the energy management challenge is something to embrace and enjoy with this model. And a flight time of 4 mins for power on stuff, and rather more for energy management focused stuff, is pretty good I reckon. Great review as ever Adam. I'm tempted 👍😉 p.s. skipped the build section but if it has twin elevator servos then one would do and the other could be rudders, to minimise weight penalty, also gear off would offset rudder addition weight so.....
It is a great flyer for sure. I like managing energy as well, but not everyone does, so we make sure we cover stuff like that so people have realistic expectations. I like rudder on everything, but I get the idea of keeping this light and inexpensive. Simple was the goal. You need both elevator servos as they are full flying stabs.
@@ModelAV8RChannel I must revisit the video and study the built but unless the elevators are tailerons, the designer and experimenter would be tempted to try single servo elevator operation and reassign the other to rudder. Also, for gear off flying, there might be a skids solution that would protect the plane, protect the elevator leading edge in a no undercarriage flare, provide a grip for hand launching, and even improve knife edge flying (though with the limited power available that might be of limited use). The experimenter in me is starting to twitch. And you're absolutely right to flag up energy management - I'm just suggesting to any readers that energy management can add interest and useful learning. Great videos Adam, keep 'em coming 👍
I installed my steering arm “upside-down” (the pin facing upwards). That accommodates the plastic spacer. also easier to fix if the pin jumps the servo steering arm slot.
Hi. Are the leads for the ESC on a Y connector that can be easily separated. If I can get differential thrust on this, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Lack of rudder on this smaller models is what's put me off.
Great video of a good looking F-22. A lot of cool flying and the tight turns were amazing. How many G's did you put your poor little model pilot through ?
The 4s version of the FW has a bit more power than this one, but it is heavier. For me, I prefer the twin sound and light weight of the XFly. It's very nimble and light on the wing.
You read my mind Paul. Yes, absolutely you could...and the full flying stabs have their own servos, so you could separate them and have tailerons as well. It has built in y harnesses, so there is some cutting and soldering involved. This is all on my list at some point. I can't even imagine how capable it will be then.
I did fly it with no stabilization, and at speed it is fine, but when you get it slow it is more stable with AS3X. Also in wind it is a bit of a handful with out AS3X...with it much better as you might expect. We did not activate SAFE.
It’s great to be able to see the planes fly. You've cost me a small fortune now! I'm expecting my delivery of my F22 today! So I’m looking forward to getting it air born! This is now my ninth plane now! Due to your great informative reviews this has helped me make the right decisions for my buying! Thank you and keep doing what you’re doing! I’ve been looking for weeks now waiting on a review on this F-22. It looks exactly what I’ve been looking for and at the right price point!@@ModelAV8RChannel
Nothing unless you have a steerable nose wheel...then the gain will correct that. Essentially, if there isn't anything plugged into that port on the RX...it doesn't matter what you do with that gain setting, it will affect nothing.
I did the same thing. After the first flight, I discovered the landing gear is terrible on the freewing. Now that I’m watching this video I see the gear on this one is way better than the freewing version. I like take off and landing…will be replacing the 64mm Freewing with this version next I think.
Ive flown this thing for a while now and it just seems off no matter what. Wheels off I would like it to be able to turn without it falling out of the sky at 50% throttle.. This thing just wants to crash... seems like it wants at lease 70% throttle in turns. Very weird characteristics. It almost feels like it needs a 5s batter instead of 4s
I'm still flying it. Same as it was in the video, and as you can see...I'm not experiencing what you are. It will turn just fine at lower throttle settings, but we're talking more shallow turns. This thing will turn on a dime, and the tighter the turn the more G's you're pulling. The more G's you pull the more energy you dissipate. So the tighter you turn the more throttle you'll need to maintain momentum or get it back quickly. Heck I've turned so tight I brought mine to near a stop...and as you can see when I do this in the video it doesn't fall out if the sky. I power up and it accelerates and keeps on going. Other times outside of "maneuvers", just flying around and turning around (gradually) I'm at 50 to 60% throttle. Maybe try being smoother at lower throttle settings and just know...if you are going to pull hard/turn tight then you need more throttle to maintain energy. That is normal with this plane. For what it's worh we tell you in the video that while it isn't under powered, it also doesn't have high performance sport jet power and requires some energy management skills. If you fly a bit sloppy this plane will expose that. Smoothness and energy management is the key.
@@ModelAV8RChannel I get what you are experiencing, however it just doesn't feel that way for me. Then again, I didn't get a great feeling with the Wing version of the twin xfly 40mm. Makes me wonder if I took off the wing servos and flew it with the tailer-rons if it would fly better with less weight...
That would save some weight, but I don't know that you'd feel it much. I understand what you're saying and you're not alone. Everything these days is really over powered, so when we get something that requires energy management a lot of folks don't really know what to do with that. For me personally, I think that is a skill worth developing and that it makes you a better pilot in the long run.
I started my Xfly twin 40mm collection with the SU 57. I want them all. Thank you for the upload.

Can I program differential thrust on this or is that not an option?
It isn't an option stock...the esc wires are soldered together into one plug. Technically you can cut and re-do that as two singles if you wanted to.
That’s what I was worried about. Thank you for the quick reply’

I turned the steering arm for the front wheel upside down and the spacer works fine.
Yep, somebody already mentioned that. Good idea, but for me the gear will stay off anyway.
Are you using a spektrum receiver with a spektrum smart battery with EC3 plug? But the jet requires a battery with XT60 plug. How you do it? Adapter?
An EC3/IC3 Batt. will plug right into an XT60 DEV. Same with EC5/IC5 and a XT90.
Thanks. I needed that info
what is the static thrust?
No idea. We have watts per pound on the set up page.
it does what the freewing 64 mm can't do, removable landing gear, and a sturdy landing gear.
