  • Stuarts back to give you a first look and Flight Review of the new XFLY Twin 40mm F-22 we've just received at Hobbyking.com. We demonstrate how easily it hand launches with the landing gear removed and how much better the performance is with a 4S Tunrigy Bolt LiHV pack, and we experiment with differential thrust control!

XFLY is continuing to expand its incredible range of EDF models with this fantastic-looking Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor. It is a small, scale twin-EDF model of the supersonic all-weather stealth fighter that was developed for the United States Air Force. The US Air Force requirement was for an advanced tactical fighter to replace the F-15 Eagle and the F-16 Fighting Falcon that had the capability of competing with the Su-27 Flanker, and MiG-29 Fulcrum.
XFLY has used the same care and attention, quality components, and materials that they use on their larger and more sophisticated models to produce the F-22 Raptor, it is manufactured to the same high standards that you have come to expect from XFLY. The F-22 is made from a lightweight, tough EPO foam, and is supplied complete with twin 40mm 12-blade EDF fan units, twin 1413-5000KV motors, twin 20A ESC, and 5 x 9g digital servos.
The 4S-compatible power system delivers an abundance of power for excellent thrust, loads of speed, and an incredible turbine-like sound. The strong landing gear supplied is fixed with a steerable nose gear, but due to the very stable flight characteristics, abundance of power, and molded hand grips, the F-22 is also quite happy being hand-launched with the landing gear removed. This takes it to the next level with even more speed and excellent vertical performance. The model is beautifully finished in a grey color scheme of the US Air Force, and assembly is quick and easy with no gluing required.
The XFLY F-22 Raptor is perfect for intermediate and experienced pilots who are looking for a small, lightweight model that is manoeuvrable, aerobatic, and fun to fly in small areas. As per the full-size, the model has all-flying horizontal stabilisers which give it amazing manoeuvrability. These include large loops, rolls, Cuban 8s, and high alpha manoeuvres such as Cobra's, Kulbit's, and many many more. It looks great in the air and on the ground and has excellent low-speed handling qualities, high alpha landings are a dream. So if you are looking for a small, fantastic-looking scale EDF jet, then the XFLY F-22 Raptor is for you.

Please, more info on how you setup differential thrust on the motors for little rudder control.

That depends on your radio not on the actual plane. Generally is a mix of the rudder with the 2 motors (on separate throttle channels). The actual procedure differs from each radio brand.

Hi! Stuart. I enjoyed the video. Thanks. Xfly's products seem generally good and decent. 😊However, this one is a bit surprising? It looks like there's no cover for the rudder servo and servo horn. When landing without wheels, I wonder if they might get damaged upon impact with the ground. It seemed like there was no cover, so I'm curious."

Nice and clean underside for Grass Landings .

I stuck two small squares of coarse sandpaper in the finger holding recesses, it helps to get a real good grip for launching 👍🏻

Mine gets delivered today. Have X-Fly's A-10 and Su 27. Great little carefree flyers. Think the differential mod will help on three of these rudderless models.

That strong headwind probably helped with the launch. It still sank a bit towards the grass, before the nose pitched up.
