    What's with all the invasion stripes? That's silly. I wish I could find our KC-97G, Boeing tail No. 52-932. It has features not normally found on military aircraft: An enclosed bathroom and a ping-pong table.

    My father was the Nav/Bombadier on B-29 and A-26 Invader flight crews during combat missions during the Korean War. He said the A-26 Invaded used an advanced radar targeting system earning its reputation as the best night time bomber.

    The little trainer wearing the South East Asia color scheme, and markings of the old South Vietnamese Air Force, is a T-37B Tweety Bird, plus, the jet painted in a red and white scheme is a Jet Provost.

      Yeah,have been to a few myself.
      Let's say,you won't be disappointed.Have worked on aircraft there,and there is definitely plenty of variety,not all being warbirds.A must visit,for sure,as is Oshkosh👍!

    Actually, the Grumman at 3:30 is an F8F Bearcat, not the 4F4 Hellcat. The F8F came too late for WWII, but saw action in Korea. It has a much more hunchbacked look to it than the Hellcat. Very few of them still around.

    • @InternalCombustion

      Yeah I messed that up. From far away I couldn’t tell. Here’s two bearcats flying together at OSH ua-cam.com/video/gOpH314shJY/v-deo.html

    I never cease to be amazed @ the vast knowledge people seem to gather abt. radials as they gather @ these events. If allowed to rattle on, they would explain how they singlehandedly designed and built all round engines and are singularly responsible for "keepin em flyin". Whatever would we do w/o them?

  • @johndavey72
    @johndavey72 5 років тому +2

    OK. So we had the Avro Lancaster but the B29, a masterpiece in engineering. FABULOUS! I understand the B29 programme cost in excess of $5 Billion! To put it context the Spitfire could top 350mph when first used in combat in 1940 the B29 only 4years later could top the same at 30,000 feet.I Think the B29 first flew in late 1941, the Lancaster was just entering service, Think that sums it up! Thank you very much.

    • @InternalCombustion
      @InternalCombustion  5 років тому

      A huge technological leap for sure. Pressurized cabin, electronically controlled gun turrets, ability to carry a 20,000lb payload, better aerodynamics etc etc.
      Now I’m no expert but I’d say the Lancaster was the best bomber used in Europe. I know it carried a greater payload than the B-17 and B-24. And those grand slam earthquake bombs they dropped!

    • @johndavey72
      @johndavey72 5 років тому

      @@InternalCombustion Hi, Yes the Lancaster could also carry 20000pounds i.e. the grand slam. We sold surplus grand slams to the US after the war and the B36 could carry two! The "Mossie" (mosquito) could actually carry a larger payload that the B17 . I made a mistake with the B29 costing ,it was $5 Billion ! As much as l truly love the technology of then and now it is so unfortunate that the world spends so much money on "defences" .

    • @InternalCombustion
      @InternalCombustion  5 років тому

      de Havilland Mosquito can carry more than a B17?? Ahh the B36, I love the picture where a B36 totally dwarfs a B29. Too bad they never saw action in Korea.
      I appreciate all the tech as well but sometimes I wonder, instead of building enough nukes to blow the world up 10 times, we (the world) could have probably focused our efforts and colonized Mars by now

    Aero L-39 Albatros isn't a Soviet made originally but Czechoslovakian.

    • @InternalCombustion
      @InternalCombustion  5 років тому

      Well I guess your right, Czechoslovakia was never actually _part_ of the Soviet Union, but it was under Soviet Communist control as a Warsaw Pact satellite state. I guess *_Eastern Bloc aircraft_* may have been a better term

    Is this from the 2019 Oshkosh? Becasue at 13:20 you see the P51 "Pecos Bill" which crashed in November of 2018 with a 93 year old WWII veteran on board, very very sad. The pilot, Cowden, flew Pecos Bill out of my home airport. Can anyone shed some light on when this video was taken?
