*EDIT* 2/6/21: Since I bought this setup used off of a 2017 STI, I JUST realized that the STI RCE Yellow Springs are slightly higher (2mm difference front and rear) and have harsher spring rates than the WRX RCE Yellow Springs. The STI RCE Yellow Springs are slightly higher and harsher to account for the heavier transmission. I reached out to RCE regarding this and they said there should be no issues. They did recommend “getting the car specific springs for the car” but that was an expected response. The GTWORX/Bilstein shocks are exactly the same for the WRX/STI. It is only the springs that differ. I’ve updated the title of this video to reflect the above. TL;DR - I realized that the STI RCE Yellow Springs are different compared to the WRX RCE Yellow Springs. Be aware of the differences if you choose to go this route. The ride quality will be harsher. Impression/review video to follow. RCE Yellow Spring rates are as follows: WRX Lowering: 22mm front and rear Spring rates: 350 lbs/in front (6.25K), 330 lbs/in rear (5.9K). STI Lowering: 20mm front and rear Spring rates: 365 lbs/in front (6.52K), 360 lbs/in rear (6.43K).
I like them a lot since they feel so planted but I did always wonder if they were supposed to be this harsh haha. I went into a rabbit hole trying to see if there are any issues with running the STI springs for the WRX. Aside from not “being engineered” for the WRX, I couldn’t find any. So far, so good.
2mm is nothing...the harsher spring rates should be more of a concern from a ride perspective...or you can add "a body in the trunk" to add the extra weight. 🤔
It won’t be the end of the world but it is highly recommended to have preload before tightening everything down. On my second go round, I told the alignment shop to retorque everything with preload while they were aligning it. You could always do that too
Great vid as usual! I always wanted to ask what’s your wheel set up? I know they’re method race wheels MR502 but what’s the sizing ?? (Offset) and what tire size are you using
What height did you set the rears to? My 13 wrx sits squatted on the rear very slightly from factory and it bugs the crap outta me so I'm trying to find out if I should raise the rears when I install them or just leave them be
Since I got them used I didn’t get the chance to measure the height settings but from comparing it to stock, it’s around a .7 to .8 inch drop. It’s slightly too low in the rear (like yours) so I would suggest raising them a bit before you install them.
These aren't coilovers, they are a spring/shock (static) combo. [I stand corrected - the rear shocks feature an adjustable circlip for +5 mm, +10 mm, -5 mm, or -10 mm rear ride height.] GTWorkx more or less modified a bilstein b8 to specially work/match a RCE Yellow/Black spring for the wrx/STi. The GTWorkx shocks are valved the same for both the wrx and STi; the only difference being the car specific RCE spring....
Been looking for a suspension upgrade on my 2020 WRX for a bit now. I found a set _nearly identical_ to these (also for the *STI* ) but with the Black springs. I'm very tempted to pull the trigger because I know the Black springs aren't quite as stiff as the Yellows... 🤔
Having experienced the yellow springs for a while now, I want something less harsh. If you aren’t bothered by feeling every single small bump on the road then the yellows are perfect!
@@ronfromportland Thanks for the reply! Surely the Blacks would be less harsh? This set I'm considering has the Black springs installed on the GTWORX/BILSTEIN shocks
@@jptothetree the blacks would be more suited for daily driving, at least from what I’ve read, and the drop isn’t as low as the yellows. Can’t go wrong with either of them though. This combo of springs/shocks is solid!
@@ronfromportland I'm on day three of having my GTWorx Bilsteins paired with the RCE Blacks! Overall I like them for sure 🤠(However, I think I'm going to reposition the circlips on the rear perches to a lower position since my car is riding a _little_ high in the rear compared to the front.)
So far, so good. I plan on doing a video of the ride quality in the near future. It’s a lot stiffer and you feel every bump but it’s not bouncy and it stays planted.
The STi is heavier in the front and overall, so sti specific springs will be different than wrx specific springs to account for the weight differences... The GT works/bilsten b8 shocks are the same for both cars (springs/spring rates are the biggest difference)

Very interesting. I wouldn’t had thought, but it makes perfect sense given the weight difference. You liking them so far at least?

Great in depth video like always! Anxious to hear what you think about the ride and how much improvement there has been.
Thanks man! It’s a lot stiffer and it feels more planted. I plan on doing an in-depth video of this setup in the near future!
Hey man! I pinned a comment on this video. Hoping you get to read it. Let me know if you have any input! Thanks.
You are absolutely correct on there always being a speed bump when installing parts but where there’s a will there’s a way! Great install homie!
Thanks man! That’s for sure, if you expect bumps along the way, it makes it easier! 🙏
Much respect to those who do their own work!
Thanks for providing torque figures dude!
No problem man! Thanks for watching!
Is it a big deal if you don’t put weight on the wheels before torquing everythig down?

@@ronfromportland Yeah, that’s a great idea.
Please post an impression vid soon! Looking to get this setup.
Yes, for sure! I’ll make this video soon. Thanks so much for watching man!
Are you still riding on the gtworx setup? How do you like them if you are?
Yup, I’m still on the same setup. I like them a lot but they can be a little harsh sometimes.
Great vid as usual! I always wanted to ask what’s your wheel set up? I know they’re method race wheels MR502 but what’s the sizing ?? (Offset) and what tire size are you using
Thanks man! Wheels are 18x8 +38. I just checked and I think this specific size is only available in black nowadays. Tires are Michelin MP4S.

Looking good bro!
Thank you bro!!
I wonder if the lowering apring for the wrx would fit 2015+ sti only because the ones for the wrxs have a lower drop than the ones for the sti. Thanks
Thanks for the question. Yes, they should be interchangeable. The only differences are the spring rates and height.
Drive up to so cal. Will love to see your car in person. I'll buy you beer from gerrys grill. Lol

great video, I need a set of these for my 2011 STI, can you point me in the right direction, pleaseeeeeeeee.

Thx for torque specs!
Thanks for checking out the video!

Yo throw some jack stands under your car man you making me nervous. Don't want you getting hurt out here.
There are jack stands under there lol
Thanks though! 🙏
