    As a former Marine Close Combat Instructor specializing in knife fighting, this concept is 100% accurate. Foot movement , speed and angles are paramount, as you can have perfect knife technique and die without them. Full speed training is a Must!

    Big ups to the Filipino Kali & Silat movement displayed here!!
    I'm going to add (And I'm sure this guy knows this) the *reason* the extra hand movements exist are for when you're attacked and DON'T have your weapon fully or properly deployed.
    A straight shot is always preferred over a block or counter and when possible hit first, *hard*
    Or in this case sharply.

      Silat should be in every LEO's training. It has saved my bacon more times then I want to think about. Yet my fellow officers think I'm nuts to study the art.

      No. You need an arsenal of tools that serve a specific function. Kali/Silat for standup / defense, BJJ for ground control, Aikido can help with joint manipulation.... oh... and range time just in case!

      @@AOMartialArts unfortunately I have had to use my weapon in line of duty. All were reaction self defense. I have (thank GOD for body armor) been shot 9 times in line of duty. Feels like getting hit by a sledge hammer. I try to get on a range at least once a week for at least a hour. And I always try to get the lights cut off or down on my lane if they will do so. Training at full speed with as close to as full contact as is safe (use safety gear& trainers) will show the reality. I always loved the idea of throwing on a white t-shirt preferably long sleeved & some safety glasses, goggles, or face protection then put red lipstick on the cutting edge of a trainer & go at it. Afterwards you will see just how "good" your skills are. After that reality check sign up for Craig's ShivWorks ECQC course & be ready to learn a thing or three!

    The "nice" think about knife training is that you're relatively safe with a practice knife. With some eye protection, welding or hockey gloves, and basic rules not to maim or break, it is easy to practice with a partner at speed and not get more than bruised up. Basic techniques need to be on automatic. That takes practice to develop muscle memory or myelinate the actions (i.e., build neural pathways).
    A step up is to use rattan practice weapons (potentially with a foam-covered poky end), padded armor, and a helmet. This opens the range of fast trap, deflect, counter techniques that can't be executed with a rubber knife.

  • @patmerfranklinnebraska6179

    The more we sweat in training the less we bleed in battle. Also train as if your already dead this mind set will allow one to put forth effort to truly endure any encounter with a person who means you real harm. Fight like your dead, not play dead. That doesn't work.

Considering a almost 2 meter tall man with a dagger raised over his head in front of you. Ready to push a special designed blade (Rondel Dagger) in your neck. So what do you think? It is a waste of time or still practical?

We must learn our ABCs, to spell words and we must spell words, to write sentences. As you can obviously note, he knows the flow drills and without a doubt has practiced them to get where he is.

    • @TTGLL
      @TTGLL 6 років тому

      Watched your video, your right and wrong. right that introducing another knife into a fight is not a great idea. Because any knife fight is a bad situation. That being said if you face an experienced knifer i.e. some one who actually has skill and used it in mortal combat you will be dead quick. Knife fighting skill sets trained universally before firearms became our primary weapons resulted in millions of kills in combat. Training with a knife will absolutely make you a more efficient killer. That's what knife skill sets make you a more efficient killer with a knife. Self defense techniques for knife attacks is the actual bullshit. You must have a strategy for dealing with fighting that assumes weapons from the out set. To put it simply you must be nice, and literally avoid conflict at all cost. But if it comes to it flip the switch and board the murder train. I worked for a time at a detention center. Witnessed countless knife attacks. Gang knife attacks and I can tell you if a person has the right tool, the will, and the skill set. They are likely to be successful if murder is on tap. Add in experience, say they have killed successfully before with the knife. That makes them damn near unstoppable unless they are met by superior force.

    Just remember in an unavoidable knife fight you will get cut. One must come to the realization of getting cut. Getting cut is not that bad, but what you don't want and want to prevent is getting stabbed. You get cut you can fight and live, getting stabbed you're dead. That being said if a knife fight is unavoidable. Other than that deflect and get the hell out of dodge, especially if you don't know what you are doing which is most people.

    John I am disappointed in your bad sportsmanship. Never thought you would use a Sneak Attack. Shame. Shame. Shame. Shame. For that your glorious hair must be donated to James Yeager!!!
