The Rolex Explorer II "Polar" has an MSRP of $9500 US, but you can't actually buy one. So I bought a Pagani Design "homage" of the same for ~$140 US. There's simply no way the Rolex is 67 times better than the Pagani, not even when one considers potential resale. I'm too old to save for a Rolex or Omega, and too young to tie up that much capital in a watch. I'm spending my pension on things I want today, just in case I don't have very many tomorrow's left. My current goal is to have a different interesting and solid watch to wear every day for a month, and I'd never get there buying watches that cost more than a brand new Triumph Tiger and are hella less fun.

Well when you sell the Rolex vs the pagani design, I'm sure you can sell the rolex for at least 67 times the price of the pagani design just saying

@@Mikesmeyer88 Actually I know a fair bit about them. Note that I never said they were close to being the same, didn't even imply it. I know the Rolex is an excellent watch that's both over-hyped and overpriced. And I know the PD is crafted in China and has an un-decorated, utilitarian, Chinese-made movement. I know both work as advertised and keep good time. I know the movements don't operate the GMT hand in the same way, but both work and are easy to learn. I know the PD won't still be running strong in 30 years, but probably neither will the Rolex unless it gets its very expensive servicing. I know I'll never have the PD serviced. When it quits, I can buy another one, 66 more in fact, with the thousands of dollars I saved. Meantime, I don't care that the Rolex can be resold -- maybe -- for a couple grand more than retail. I'm not going to sink that much capital into such a speculation. I prefer to wear a watch whose looks and function I like and which I don't mind losing or having be destroyed, and I like having the option to spend the thousands I saved on something else. You be you. Wear a Rolex, or keep it in a safe, if that pleases you and doesn't take food out of your family's mouths. I'm not judging you. Why must you judge me?
This is a really good review Jason, as I found myself agreeing with all your remarks and was kinda following along wondering when you were going to pick up the next issue I was thinking about with this homage - and you nailed them all! It's almost as if the Pagani engineers were instructed to produce a homage to the Omega in around 10 minutes, so they kinda had to guess some of the specs! Let's hope Pagani listen to your review amongst others, and make the necessary adjustments.... !

The Omega Speedmaster Professional Moon Watch is also my grail watch, and I don't believe anything PD can do will satisfy me on this particular piece. Very good watch and very precise (approximately - 1 second / month)
The few defects revealed do not bother me at all given the asking price
In addition, I never compare a tribute watch to the original

Yes Gus. I just bought the V3 Pagani and I hope I will be happy with it. It is great to say "Hey look at me I have a lot of money". 6K for the real thing? Really?
I bought the V3 Black version of this watch last week. It took just over a week to arrive which I was pleasantly pleased with, since you hear stories of watches taking weeks to arrive or even not at all in some cases
I paid about £53 in the End of June 24 sale, plus just over £10 in taxes so it was just over £63 for the PD1701 V3 and I absolutely love it. I have it on the metal bracelet and after sizing it, it fits perfectly and everyone I have shown it to says it looks fantastic.
I really wanted the Rolex Explorer II Homage in white from Pagani Design, but after searching for over 3 months, couldn't find one at the price I wanted. It was actually the Automatic Movement I wanted but I think I've done ok with my second choice.......
I about fell of my seat when I saw the hat....outstanding brother....Like most I had high hopes, but should have known better....still keen to see if they take anything onboard for the v2....you nailed all the negatives, the really big one of course is the mismatched colours....🏴⌚🏴⌚
Thank you for the video. The Speedmaster is my grail watch as well. I hope to get one next year if the prices hold steady. I have two pagani watches, the GMT Batman homage and the Rolex daytona homage. I love them both. In the end, you are so right that only the real Speedmaster will scratch my itch
Theyre probably the two best homages they produce along side the Submariner 40mm. It really will and I can't wait for you to experience that feeling!
I bought a black dial PD1701 from Amazon on black friday. It looks good, it is comfortable for me to wear and the bracelet was easy to size. The case and dial finishing looks very nice. I think it is a very nice watch for the price. The outside edges of my bracelet are sharp but I think I can take care of that easily myself.
When I buy a homage I like to buy a dial color that was not offered in the original so nobody thinks I'm wearing a copy however the dial color I preferred is no longer available. I was tempted by the Tiffany blue of the v4 but decided to go with the classic black.

Is there such a thing as a quartz chronograph the has a 12 hr register instead of the near-useless 24 hr time dial or tenths of a second dial? I would buy one of them.
When you mentioned water resistance and how the Omega should not go in to the water, it brought back some bad memories. I have an original 1965 Cal. 321 Speedmaster that was taken swimming (not by me) and water penetrated the case and then let to sit in a drawer for some time before I received it. Long story short it cost me almost $2,500 to properly restore the watch back to working order! So I can attest that it is NOT water proof, and please DO NOT take it swimming or even near a glass of water on your kitchen table, lol.

I bought the Alpha an that gives me a good feeling. I bought my grail watch 18 years ago my Omega Seamaster .
I have three different ones of these.pagani.alpha and one I got when I was out the country made by a funny name but it's a dead ringer for the omega.the alpha is wind up the other to are quartz they all keep very good time.!!!cost wise alpha most money.pagarni next the other was fifty notes and over the past 3years been bloody amazing keep up the great work.cheers !!

The problem with this review is that you compared the PD to your grail watch. PD didn't even have a chance! What do you expect from a watch for $87?
quartz chronos can adjust hand by buttons, read the manual
Adjustment is only in one second increments to allow for resetting after battery fitment, it won't correct a misaligned hand.
Hey Jason. Version 3 of the Pagani speedmaster is finally out! They have finally used white hands (not sure if they have made any other changes yet) Since the speedmaster is your grail watch the same as me are you going to pull the trigger on V3 and review it? That would be great! Cheers.

This is a very beautiful watch that Pagani white & blue dial. These are indeed watches that are worth the lot. I wished that Pagani could homage the El-Primero Zenith with the different color dial plus the ceramic bezel. I can't afford to have an El -Primero Zenith but if pagani does make a perfect homage , I'll for sure without hesitation buy one for my collection.
I love the El Primero too, very excited to see the Sugess variant of it

Well, I didn't really understand the Chronograph function of the Pagani: is it fake? Why isn't the small 24h dial set in the 24-position?
No, this isn't a 24h Chrono, the dial you're referring to is a simple 24h dial

Good point on the homage v original. If the original in question is your grail, then anything else is just a temporary fix & probably taking money away from the pot for the grail.
Definitely, I'm a walking example of that theory. The Speedy just does something completely different for me
Does the bracelet of the Pagani fit the Phylida Speedy? I'd like to have a metal bracelet for mine.
I'm not too sure, do Phylida not sell their own though?

Great video man. Wonder if the bracelet on the pagani fits a 1861/1863. Thinking of getting an uncle seiko bracelet but it cost as much if not more than the pagani.
I have one of their bracelets for my Speedy...they're worth every penny

The water resistance they put on their dials is pure fantasy. To the Chinese words on the dial are just decoration.
I got my V2 black/gold from Trendy a couple of days ago and took a good look at it but haven't worn it yet. Checked it for alignment and bracelet problems and it seemed totally fine, as you've said, the case itself is great but the dial and the hands are a bit of a letdown. I'm pretty happy considering the £63 outlay. To be honest, the Tandorio that arrived the same day totally stole all of my attention. 🙄. Thanks for the great comparison!

@@JasonTheWatchGuy oh no, not more watches 😏. It's 62mas style with a double domed sapphire and a PT5000 for like ~£85 (11.11 sale). It has an incredibly good bezel action too, mine does anyway. Got the grey sunburst dial and yeah, it's *really* nice. Fluorine waffle strap it came on is high quality. Lume on the dial is crap although there's plenty on the hands, but you can't have everything!
Just looking at their watches now and they look brilliant! Especially with the PT5000 inside them

Pagani is already selling V2 of this watch. Basically they changed the colour of the date window to black instead of white and also the 3D effect on the dial. I received a photo. No white hands unfortunately but they said they are still working on it. For me the best buy of the three is the anniversary version with the gold hands (there is a V2 also but I do not know what are the changes, probably the date window in black and some dial changes). It's the closest to the original anniversary edition. The original is still a pass for me but I believe they will update it to white hands due to the huge backlash from customers. Phylida did it without problems also Corgeut (sorry for the spelling) so I don't see a reason for Pagani not to do the same. It would become their best selling watch for sure even beating their Daytona probably.
Weird, the lume on the PD glowed well to me, not as well as the Omega, but I could see it fine from the USA. ☺
Its a nice looking Chinese watch despite some flaws when compared to the $$$$$$ of the Omega. Just one man's subjective opinion. Excellent review as always, Jason.

I was so keen on the Snoopy blue version BUT those sub-dials are a different blue to the bezel and that's a deal breaker for me. The colour in the Ali Express photos match and it really pisses me that they touch up photos to mislead buyers.

Not one of your best videos, Jason. The review goes into endless detail on minor cosmetic issues while sliding quickly past the fact that the functions are quite different from those of the Speedy. Rather than highly readable 30 minute and 12 hour registers, the Pagani has a 60 minute register which is rather hard to read, plus a 24 hr time dial which is really only there to allow the watch to have three registers.
J…I bought V.2 of that watch (blue and white with the date window)…took off the bracelet and threw on a blue tropic. LOVING IT! I wanted a white face chronograph. If I had a spare $5,000 laying around I would have bought the Tudor Black Bay Chrono Panda. I’m good for now…until that spare $5k shows up! 🤣
That spare 5k could be just around the corner mate! Until then, I'm sure the Pagani will do the job 👍

Awesome review I got the all black version one it's ok but nothing can compare to the real thing this speedy is on my grail list pagani need to study the speedy more closely so they can get closer

Iam not sure why anyone would go for the pagani when you get get the mechanical Alpha speedmaster with the amazing seagull column wheel chronograph movement for £140 absolute bargain of the century..... I've owned and sold 2 omega speedmasters over the years and guess what I get just as much pleasure wearing this gorgeous Alpha speedmaster and I've fitted it with a nasa velcro strap..... Just awsome it's a no brainer guys..... Of go for the Alpha ultraman speedmaster with the cool red chronograph minute counter hand..... 👍

i also like the bulova moon watch but its too big
For me the speedmaster is not a Grail watch. Were it not for the Pagani, I wouldn't have anything in that direction anyway. So for me it is just about the fun. Since it doesn't need to scratch that itch (is that even possible with a hommage?) I rather go for the more vibrant colors options. I like the white one.
Maybe it is 100m water resistant, if you don't press the Chrono pushers! I prefer the non screw down pushers, the screw down ones on the "Daytona" are a bit of a pain IMO.
I wonder if anyone has both the Pagani Design "Speedmaster" and "Daytona", how do they compare, which one do you prefer?
I really like the screw down ones! I had both, I preferred the Daytona but I think it's a personal preference

Speedy is only perfect IF you can use a tachymetre bezel and don't need the date.
I think you like your speedmaster very much and that anything that is not the same as it will automatically be bad for you. Personally I do not own omega speedmaster, so I am not influenced by the money spent and when I objectively look at these two watches side by side (not the blue version but the black version of pagani) .... the pagani wins the game. Obviously I'm talking about the visual, not the movement, the lume and the rest.
I'd get the Corgeaut Chronograph for 57 Euro on Amazon instead.

people will argue that this is a Homage and not a clone...sure, I get that. but when Pagani's decisions start to make the watch WORSE than it could be, it becomes an issue. even the black one suffers from hands that disappear in certain lighting (same for the indices). the crytsal does not help this in the least. they really nailed the case and bracelet for the most part, but my heart wishes V3 (V2 is our and "brings more depth to the dial" according to Trendy mens store) adds an aluminum bezel, and white hands and printed indices like the Omega. I would give the crystal a pass if they did that.
Definitely have a lot of improvement to make if they want this in the same playground as their Daytona homage
v3 black look a lot more like omega traditional. like 95%. v4 look better but not as close to omega

Well I'm not up to defend Pagani Design here. But they're sort of caught between a rock and a hard place here, because if thy stick more to the original with a slimmer bezel and more slightly recessed subdials they get accused of making an outright rip off rather than an homage.
I don't think they've made those changes to differentiate themselves though. Think that's the difference here

The space image on the backcase is a good idea of PD and very nice. But it shows a Space Shuttle from the 1980s and not the Saturn V from the 1960s that took man to the moon. This would be an issue for V3...
I don't think that's such a big issue to be fair, least of their issues with this model at the moment

the Pagani looks like the kind of thing people used to try to sell you in a market on holiday....cheap tat. It's interesting that Rolex's seem very easy to copy....sorry, homage, but very few seem to be able to homage an Omega and do anyhting like a good job.

I don't think the Omega Speedmaster was ever meant to be water proof.
It wasn't, however whenever you bring it up people love to mention that it isn't waterproof

I think there are better homages of this watch out there imo. Pagani really didn't nail the design with this one sadly. I know they've now done a v2 but that doesn't look much better. Maybe they'll get it right on the next one. And the Speedy. Nothing to be said other than a true icon.
There is no point to compare a homage and an original watch. It is a homage and you will expect some differences. If you expect a homage to be like the gen Speedmaster, buy a replica if you can't afford it.

you should see the black dial paganis. the HANDS AREN'T WHITE 🤦🏻♂️ they have polished hands and it ruins the whole look to me. any good speedy homage should have white hands. maybe it's me but they look super wierd with polished hands. which is why I bought the blue/white dial one like this one u have

One of the worst reviews I've seen. Full off opinions instead of facts. Example: I don't trust the 100m water resistance. Rubbish! Test it or don't talk about it.
Someone's a little touchy...no screw down pushers, where do you think the water will go? If you don't like opinions don't watch reviews, that's what they're based on.
@@JasonTheWatchGuy I did a water ingress test after a crystal repair on this exact model. No problems at 150 meters. But even without test instruments logic can help. Are there any watches out there that have 100+ water resistance and have no screw-down pushers? Yes, plenty!
