Good report David. However, have missed some info on interesting vessels like for instance on O'MATHILDE (which I believe was a former kasko from Benetti ) or EMIR which had been trading as a passenger vessel in Japan before Capt. Dragnis has put his "golden hands" on her. And converted her with some good vision into an impressive yacht. Noteworthy too that the owners of the company have a rich history in commercial shipping. John jr. when you read this: speaking about Japanese built tonnage, do you remember our s&p deal on MV FRANCONIA in cold and grey Hamburg...?
But when will you cover Picchiotti or Burger? People ask me why I like Burger, Mengi Yay and Cheoy Lee so much...I wonder if those people have eyes? Gorgeous yachts with stunning interiors. I put Burger there with Aicon and Cheoy Lee with Bering. Mengi is with Riva. My opinion only. Others will say they don't compare. What do you think David?
The reason for 2 designers on X is due to the build provenance… she didn’t start life at Golden, but way way away in Chile, then when the yard got into major financial problems the owner had her towed out to an American yard but couldn’t settle on terms so… had her wrapped and she sat for close on a decade.
She was originally laid down in 07 or 08. When she arrived at Golden as a hull with engines and a half completed superstructure the owner’s tastes had changed and asked Ken F to make significant changes to various parts. Very amicably KF suggested he was too invested in the original concept and it might be better to invite someone else to complete.
I had been under the impression (perhaps falsely as it turns out) that Golden only built new on their own behalf to charter and offer to brokerage market, and only did conversions or completions of problem projects for external customers / owners.
Given the volumes of some of their newer work (O’pari, O’Ptasia etc), it’s surprising they’re not building to PYC; even with 10-14 suites they’re limited to 12 pax for charter.
Would you consider a comment on the “1986 Custom Elsflether Werft | 209ft”. My wife and I consider purchasing it.
