  • This automotive bulb change is a little more tricky than most. You may find use for a light, a mirror, and needle nose pliers. Conventional wisdom is to install the new bulb while wearing rubber gloves, to avoid depositing oil and dirt on the outer surface of the bulb. This is done to reduce the chance of heat absorption and burnout. The OEM part number for the parking bulb in this exact 2007 vehicle is in the body of the video toward the end.
DIY auto repair always comes with risks, both to the vehicle and to the individual. Any misadventure you encounter if you decide to accept the risk of home repair is your responsibility. You may need to have the key on to identify which bulb is abnormal, but when removing or replacing bulbs it is wise to do it with key out, engine off.

I think the connector was seized in its mount from 16 years of age, but I do wonder if the shoulder higher on the shaft was binding against something on the way out. Off camera I was able to spin it freely in the housing before that little tab broke off. That shoulder prevents it from being inserted too deep. If I ever need to do this again, if I encounter resistance I'll spin it a little more to reduce the chance of putting too much strain on 16 year old plastic. Mine was white plastic but I've seen others that use black plastic. Remember to use rubber gloves when installing the new bulb, to give it every chance to live a long life.

Thankyou Shawn. Some of the very first automotive repair videos were of this genre, simple tips to allow the consumer to change his own lights, specific to the car. Thank goodness for search engines that help people find what they want!

Some bulbs (especially cheap aftermarket parts with unknown names) get so hot that the plastic parts stick together. I had a similar situation in a Toyota.

That's an excellent point. If resistance of the electrical connection is slightly corroded or misaligned because of aftermarket design, voltage drop at the connector and power consumption leads to waste heat that can melt adjacent plastic.

Hmm not horrible, just a bit of jiggling and possible mild swearing lol.
Did you think about replacing both? so both are Un worn.
Then they will fail together lol joke :-D.
