Your videos continue to be so genuine and real and also, because of that, funny! Not only am I excited to see future vlogs and how you grow with doing them, but it makes me want to take a stab at it too 😂 I've done a little bit of YT videos on my art and writing but perfectionist fears often keep me from doing more. You (and our queen Rachel Maksy) make me feel like I should just go for it! Also I am reading The Sorcerer's Wife now and am excited for more of this world 😊💕
The perfectionist struggle is rough 😢 it's a trauma response, and learning what lead to it can often help us untangle the behavior! I try to remind myself; an "imperfect" completed book is always better than one "perfect" chapter ❤
I really enjoyed this video! I liked how casual it was (the cats are adorable) and those waffles looked delish. Being in the writing zone is an awesome feeling, but yeah, it can totally drain you. In November, I had a month where I wrote 50k words, but this month I’ll be lucky if I hit 15k. Again, loved the video! Hope the weather cools down soon. ❤
Yes...I would have loved one more day in the zone, but I was starting to fizzle. Even if everything is flowing really well you still need some breaks from it, I think...
Ah! I'm so glad you mentioned the Emily Wilde series. It is my favourite reads of this year! I also love watching all of your videos, every single time. You're so genuine and interesting.
i know this is totally not on topic, but the sun coming through the window thing. a retractable awning isn't terribly hard to install or expensive. it will let you keep the sun out for longer in the summer but let as much in as you can during the winter. depends a bit on the house, location and angle to the sun in summer, but retractable awnings changed my life when i first got them installed. i went with a very basic all human powered mechanical one because they last forever, but there are ones that are powered and even ones you can tie into your smart home and such as well for a bit more money. if you don't need the winter sun then a permanent awning is probably the best option. the US used to have a lot of window awnings but then air conditioning came and they were seen as old and unstylish or something and they all got taken down. the aluminum ones aren't pretty but they are still up on houses where they were installed in the 30s in some places.
Not a bad idea for energy efficiency! We actually just got one of these installed at the bookstore last year. Honestly the sun is really only a problem for about 2 hours a day, 3 months a year, which doesn't feel like enough to pay for an awning, but I guess we'll see how global warming goes. I really don't want air conditioning.
@@lidiyafoxgloveauthor you can get one of those mobile screens and put it outside your window maybe. or just a couple poles in the ground with a screen you can pull up. as long as you keep the sun off your window from the outside it'll be good. a longer term option is to plant a tree that drops leaves in the fall so it will shade you in the summer but let the sun through in the winter. if you're in the house for the long haul then that is how i'd go about it. it'll take a few years to get the full effect but it's hard to beat it because it'll also shade the wall and lower the heat gain even more.
Ooo I love the idea of having the characters comparing their lives to the literature in their world. It's such a relatable thing that we all do (right? or is it just me? lol). I'm totally going to steal, er, *borrow* this idea for my current WIP. Since my story is in a medieval Europe-type fantasy world, I'll use an epic poem recited by bards rather than a gothic novel. Keep sharing your ideas. I definitely won't steal any more of them. Narrator: She absolutely would be stealing them.
It's okay! I was, in turn, inspired by the Emily Wilde books because I loved how everything that happens is referenced with a footnote to some fictional scholarly text about faeries. It made me think that I needed to really make the literature of my characters' world feel real with references to specific books and literary styles since both mcs are booksellers & very avid readers.
I related to quite a bit of this. I used to write one book at a time, but ever since the pandemic and experiencing burnout, i find myself bouncing between ideas... but i think that comes more from brain fog for me. Honestly don't worry about jumping between projects; you're such a productive writer! As ive been recovering from burnout, your videos have really helped me start getting excited about the process of writing again
I had such a great writing streak going on my second draft until my husband had to work mandatory overtime - 10 hour days for 12 days with only one day off in the middle. I had to stop writing completely as I struggled to handle my usual tasks, homeschooling, and my husband’s usual tasks. On a good note, my daughter and I got to build a duck coop for our ducks.
I also struggle with having enough clothing on to actually vlog😂 I'm a breastfeeding mama so half of the time when I'm trying to work on something I've got baby's food out also 😅 You did great with this, the zone is one of my favorite places to be!
This week is all pre-book-launch for me =] I'm listening to the last few chapters of the audiobook edition to get it approved and into Audible/Findaway's QA department and filling out the Kindle X-ray feature before it releases. This book is a lot longer than my usual ones (book eight in an epic fantasy series that ran long), so it's taken a lot longer to get these last few things done. I can't wait for August, when I get to go back to writing again. In the mean time, I picked up Bookshops and Bonedust by Travis Baldree to read.
I hate how my entire life seems to contract around a project; but it's the only way to get anything done. Even if it means getting up when everyone else is asleep, the work has to get done, if the work is to get done. Getting up earlier than everyone else--super early--is the only method I've found to doing this. Good luck on cranking out the 25k. Cheers.
@@lidiyafoxgloveauthor Enjoy your vacation! I would still argue that down time and going with the flow and with the seasons ARE part of the creative work! Maybe the most important. Truly. It’s not just a thing that 4 hour work week people say.
It looks like it's going to be epic! Some of the venues too. Breakdancing in front of the Eiffel tower looks like it'll be sooo cool. I can't wait. I think this will be a really good year.
I doubt I'll be keeping this habit in the cooler months but when it's 80 in the house and the groundwater isn't even that frigid...they really are energizing!
"What I SHOULD be working on..." Spoken like a true author lol
Needing to work but having to first move the beautiful cat is the story of my life.
I'm LOVING this vlog style! Please consider doing more like these!❤
I have one vlog per month on my schedule, so definitely! I want to get better and better at them.
You are one of my new favorite youtubers. Talk about whatever you like, it’s just a pleasure listening! 💚
Getting in the writing zone and forgetting to shower, eat, and clean up is a relatable thing for me too.😂

Loved this vlog :)
Staring at my todo list and it’s growing longer
I’m trying to see if I can “outline” or “plot” my way into my story by writing disparate scenes, which I can THEN go back and fit like a puzzle
I do this, I find it really helpful.
I wanted to try this for my new story but I'm a bit scared of facing a new process
I dig this format. 🙂
Please more of that, I really liked it! Btw - LOVE that you are a puzzler too😁
Oh yes, I come from a family of puzzlers. My sister Ivy actually designs puzzles for Ravensburger now and we are BEYOND proud
@@lidiyafoxgloveauthor oh wow!! For me as a German that too would be a great family honor!😁 you guys are pretty talanted, I am impressed!😊
Loved this vlog! I admit that I'm a bit jealous. I love doing puzzles but my cats are so naughty and don't let me!! Pieces everywhere . . .

It’s important to work with seasonal energy- discipline and scheduling are NOT summer vibes. Let yourself off the hook! Go be naked in nature! ☀️ 🍑
Agreed! And yet one must eat! Well, next week is my week off. Olympics and a nice pile of library books await.

I love your view! Where do you live?
The Asheville area.
