TB was a really polarizing guy but generally outside of a few people whether you loved or hated him you respected him because he had such rock solid morals and was such a giant to do with consumer advocacy in video games.
For me, it's been around a week now and I'm still trying to come to terms with it, TB has been a big influence for me to do with gaming most of my adult life.

Kudos for making this. My takeaway from John the more I see and read stories like this, is that he massively downplayed everything he did for people behind the scenes. RIP. TB

    • @amc2004uk
      @amc2004uk 6 років тому +4

Most of what he did went unreported because he kept it quiet, a good one is that he was on the ground floor getting League of Legends popular in the early days, he gained a referral prize where he could create his own champion but since he stopped playing the game he gave that prize to a kid with leukemia so TB and Riot games along with Make a Wish shipped the kid to Riot Games where he could make his own champion.
His character was very stoic and cynical but he really did have a heart of gold.

TB helped me get through some truly dark times. I recall tuning to his videos when I was either deeply depressed or alone and suddenly my day would be just a bit brighter and i felt like I was having a conversation with a good friend about a hobby we both enjoyed immensely. Hopping between dead end jobs, I'd tuned into his podcasts and everyday felt a little more enjoyable and less insufferable. He's been an immense source of comfort in my life when at times I had no one. Similar to what you have said, i enjoyed his cynical outlook on things and the way he'd delve deep into video games in a passionate, honest and critical manner the only way he could have done. He stayed true to his views and what he believed in. And if he was wrong, he'd apologized and conduct himself like a gentleman. He was a man I respected and truly looked up to. There's no words to describe how much sorrow I feel knowing he's gone. TB. I will sorely miss you.

What really gets me these days is how many people spoke up in regards of how supportive TB was to them in one way or the other. One tends to not realize the depth of his influence on the day to day basis. It's just sad. I've heard your story many times these days. Rest in peace John.

I keep reading/hearing about how people played WoW when they suffered depression and found comfort in Totalbiscuit. I in this same boat, I cannot say TB saved me from suicide, but his content was very enjoyable and kept me engaged with WoW, which aided me in getting over the slump. When he branched out to WTF is series, it was my inspiration to leave WoW - which no doubt helped me climb out of the darkness. From a fan who cried harder at your loss than even close friends/family, you will be deeply missed. I finally understand how the death of actors/musicians can hit people hard, they reach out to us when the world seems to leave us alone. I only hope TB's content remains on UA-cam so I can go back and watch my favorite episodes. I bought Brothers - A tale of two sons from TB numerous recommendations, but like many other Steam games we buy - I never played it for more than a few minutes. This weekend I will complete it in honor of TB, may he rest in peace. His family is left with the biggest microtransaction of all, USA medical bills - dig deep folks, no fun loot in this box.

TotalBiscuit introduced me to my most played games ever: Borderlands 2 and Warframe. He also had a huge influence in bringing me back to PC gaming. I never knew him personally but watching his channel since the early days feels like good friend. I really hope someone raises a top hat statue with the words FOV slider on it. - Rewatching some of his older WTF yesterday almost made me cry. I miss this snarky guy.

Thank you for making this. I honestly have been disappointed in the lack of videos put out there to recognize a cornerstone in the UA-cam and critic communities. While he did have a few view points that I didn't fully agree with him on 100%, I still respected the man. We never are going to 100% agree with everyone, but there's a difference between not agreeing and cutting someone off, or not agreeing with them and still respecting them and listening to their side and view of said topics.

Two Brothers is a game I bought because of TotalBiscuit's review. It is not a coincidence you picked that gameplay because he said that this is his favorite game and that is why I got it and it was an insta love for me as well. I am in tears. Every morning I wake up and every evening I go to sleep my thoughts are about John. My heart is full of sorrow. The world feels empty without him. I've been listening to his podcasts and watching his reviews for 10 years now and he was a part of my daily routine. He did not inspire thousands but millions across the globe. It is thanks to him that videogames are so popular now and this not an overstatement. For me he is The Batman of videogames. He keeps everybody in check and he never sleeps. As I am trying to write this my phone screen is soaking in tears.Thank you John, you live in our hearts and souls! Long Live The Cynical Brit, the colossus TotalBiscuit!

So you've got a small subscribers boost from the podcast... Man, I'm a part of that boost. And I'm still watching. So, just for your personal journal or something, you're doing great, I rarely comment on any UA-cam videos these days, so I just want you to know, you're doing a great job and I'm enjoying it. A lot.
As for me, I never met TB. I talked with him a few times, when he was smaller, before the Google+ thing in his comments and a couple more times on Reddit. Oh, we've argued... but he never called me a hater, never disregarded me, we just had a few different opinions and the fact that he took his time to explain things and take note of my views, that made me happy. I never met him in person and then CoxCon was a thing. It's in the UK, closer to me than anything else... and when that happened "there's always the next year" syndrome took me over. Can't go now, there's always the next year... I've run out of next years. This was too sudden. I woke up, checked news and I saw that John was gone. Just like that. Made me realise that if we care about someone if he made an impact on us, we should hurry up and tell them because at some point we might not have the "next time". There's never enough time...

I belive that this video is opposite of disrespectful. You honoured the memory of TotalBiscuit, by retelling us Your story about him.
Everyone of us has our own story, of how we were affected by him, some directly like you were. Some were affected by his videos, podcasts. But what we have in common is that a lot of us miss him. Some of us even grieve. And by telling these stories we can relive the person that he was. It is natural to want to tell the story, to share the feelings, our perspective on him with others like-minded. Not to create sensation, but to once again relive the memories.
Your story had stronger impact just because how strongly you were influenced by him, and I want to thank you for telling it to us.

I started following TB when Cata came out and I watched his Beta coverage. I loved his humor and his style of throwing out his opinion no matter what. He was a great man in my eyes, and seeing how some people started laughing at his death made me so fucking angry. No man deserves to be treated this way. Someone who has done so much good in his life, and has been such a shining light for so many people, deserves nothing but respect. Thanks for this video, I'm glad you made it. It's certainly not disrespectful. I thing he would have appreciated it a lot. And I appreciate you talking about your anxiety problems, I've been struggling with anxiety and depression more and more since around 2000, and just recently it seems things might get better. Go to a doctor, get help, if you struggle with things!
I found your channel through the podcast, and I'm glad, you make great videos. I found while looking for videos about PlanetSide 2, and a friend of mine always watch the podcast, so I started to do that too, getting to know Dodger and Jesse too, and I started watching it backwards, from where I was then to the first episode, I always had the podcast running on a second monitor while doing things. They and TB made a great team, and his videos alone were great too, and with his viewer base, a lot of people listened when he said things. A few days ago before I had been online messaged me about TB's passing, and it turned into a really emotional day. The thought of him being gone, we'll never every see new videos from him, never agian the podcast, and his family and dogs (and cat) won't have him around anymore (I wonder if the dogs will understand why he's not there anymore). I'm glad they have great friends to help them, but it's still gonna be a long and hard process for them, but I think they'll make it and get through it.
It's strange how the death of someone you've never met and didn't know personally can affect you, but it's been quite emotional.
Sorry for the long and rambling comment. This is a great video in memory of Total Biscuit.

Its amazing how many videos ive seen that mention two things, Blue Plz and the Podcast, I never saw Blue Plz as I never was a WOW player, but the podcast was something I followed closely and love. its amazing and touching all of these people sharing these personal stories of him, I never had the pleasure, but I enjoy and deeply appreciate every single story.

I should have made this comment a while ago, possibly when I first watched your video, but I've only barely gotten to it. TB as well provoked an interest in me in the gaming industry. I'm currently a SoftEng student, and I wish to one day get into actual professional game development. My goal since the beginning has been to produce a game that TB might enjoy. The impact this man has had on my life cannot be overstated. I'd like to thank you, Idiotech, for sharing your story. It's inspirational to me, and I hope you continue producing the quality content you always have.

Very well spoken. I'm like the many who enjoyed his reviews and appreciate what he fought for in the gaming industry. It was great to hear the perspective of a developer. Well done.

I just subbed because of this video....i really dont think we will see the likes of a TB again in the pc world, he was a prophet of sorts, speaking truth and was able to influence so much for the better. Thanks for sharing this

I’ve always wanted to meet TB, I always had the same mentality you did aswell that I wanted to be him and meet him and just tell him all the things he did for me and how he made me the person I am today but sadly I never had the recourses or chance to do it. Apart of me wishes I could have gotten my life together so much sooner just to try and meet him at an event but it’s too late now. I just wish I could tell him how much he meant to be even though he never knew I existed

I remember when I first came across TB in I think it was 2012-ish. I think one of the first videos I watched of him was his WTF on one of the Section 8 games, but later he did lots of coverage on Planetside 2, which is when I subscribed to him. Him exposing me to Planetside 2 (and many other games, as well as the importance of graphics options particularly FOV :P) was THE reason I built a gaming PC, so I could play that game, and play games he could play (I only had a crappy pc that I was playing Halo CE and Crysis on), and got me hardcore into pc gaming in general. He also made me aware of many things about how the gaming industry worked and things like that. I don't think I would have gotten into PC gaming and buying hundreds of games on Steam without him.
Also without him, I wouldn't have found out about other youtubers who do similar videos, like Super Bunnyhop, Gamemaker's Toolkit, or Idiotech here!
Oh, and he also got me to check out the original Deus Ex... Annnd yeah that's why I have this profile picture.
There really is a hole missing in the gaming community without his influence, and I don't think that hole will ever be filled, really.

An accepted peer of TB is someone i'd subscribe to.
I was going thru a rough time in life that I think i would'nt come thru without TB & Jesse Cox's Terraria series. That later transcended into WTF series and later on podcasts.
So I feel you. Keep on trucking and fuck cancer.

I also thought about making a video about TB but I really hate making videos, Being a youtuber is not something that interested me. But I had so much respect for TB. He will be missed very much. Good to see you playing his favorite game as well.

I used to watch him all the time; mainly back in the early days when I was playing WoW, so I haven't watched much of his content in the later years. But oh man, it's such a hard blow. I didn't really think it would affect me as much as it did(death generally doesn't bother me), I will miss John.
