Soundgarden, believe it or not, is probably underrated to this day. I can't explain it. They groove in odd time sigs. What more do you want? Excellent melodies? Sick drumming? Unique guitar riffs? Galloping basslines? Orgasmic vocals? Please. I sometimes wonder if all the "grunge" era songs would come off better if they weren't so heavy and drop-tuned. In other words, how would The Beatles have recorded the Seattle sound? Guess we'll never know.
probably my favorite Soundgarden song, everything is perfect here! that trumpet at the end, golly! love your insight man, your music theory knowledge leads to some great insights, thanks!
Damn right, there are no rules. The Beatles, Hendrix and Eddie all broke the rules, because they didn’t bother to learn them. Beethoven and Chopin knew them, but didn’t care. But, there’s also Bach and Mozart. Formal as could be, but their music is alive and well.
Easily one of my favorite Soundgarden songs. Brilliant from beginning to end. From the intro exhale (that most thibk is a scream) to the sax outro. Just an amazing composition
Funny, I hadn’t really noticed that continuous guitar whine until you pointed it out…after it was all I could focus on. Lol. Good tune. I’m not a big Soundgarden fan, but I liked that
I’m enjoying your reviews on Soundgrden. One thing I’ve noticed that its mix of song composition, metal riffs, uncomfortable distortion and experimentation, and undeniably top-notch musicians can be wicked challenging. It’s ok not to enjoy every vegetable or song in the garden, I certainly don’t. It’s just great to browse.
The wailing vocals and screeching sax at the end reminded me a bit of The Stooges - Fun House for some reason. I checked and it wasn't real close, but the mix of noise did have a similar effect.
Wow. 4th of July would be right up there near the top for me. Quite an opinion difference, interesting! I'll have to find that one sometime and give it a watch.
@@nettiemac It's a good way for David to promote himself maybe. I mean if you think about it , how often do you really ever hear an original catchphrase anymore?
Matt Cameron is a beast on that song and his love for 70's jazz fusion -- in particular Steve Gadd's work -- is all over Badmotorfinger but this song in particular. That ride in the half tile section the subtle switching of feel and odd feeling drum fills that add expression and character are all flawless on that song.
My mistake, Tighter & Tighter is great, one of the most underrated SG songs. But FRESH TINDELLS please David!! Thats the song I was thinking of. THE most underrated SG song
When the Seattle music scene opened up to us they saved Rock. The Glam era was awful. I have always felt that this album was the hammer that drove the nail in the coffin of that garbage.
You have to listen to Hunger Strike. It predates this. Say Hello to Heaven and Times of Trouble. All on Temple of the Dog. Soundgarden always presented Chris' voice as secondary. It's always primary in all his other projects
The buzzing was the only thing that I hated about this song. I thought it took away from Chris's vocals. He sounded great in the verse but that buzzing in the background. They didn't need to do that
@@sussychachi I know about the distortion sounds in Grunge but buzzing interrupts Chris Cornell's vocals and it's annoying. That buzzing should have been in muted in the background when he was singing not in the foreground interfering with his vocals. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love this song
@@leviathan3630 Not only this specific part, but soundgarden as a band grows on you over time. I can guarantee you that every soundgarden fan probably hated their first listen through of Jesus Christ Pose, but after a few listens its fuckin awesome
@@stemu166 Yep. After the first single from that record dropped -OUTSHINED- Jesus Christ Pose was like antacid. Then I saw them in concert on that tour and I learned to love to swallow that pill.
This is one of my favorite SG songs. Kim wrote the lyrics and Matt wrote the music.
Difficult times: 3/2, 7/4, 19/8
Matt Cameron: (snickers) I got this, bruh.
He's becoming one of my favorite drummers

Yesss more Soundgarden 🥰🥰🥰
Underrated album cut, one of my favorites by these guys 🤘
One of my favorite songs of all time....
Hurricane Cornell, blowing it down, category 5 style ...
This song is AWESOME live!!!
I’d say my third favourite, from Badmotorfinger, after New Damage and Slaves and Bulldozers
For me it was Searching With My Good Eye Closed which made me but this album
The “annoying guitar” reminds me of an air raid siren.
This is my favorite song from Badmotorfinger, this and Holy Water are my jams 🤘🏽
this has always been one of my favortie Soundgarden songs ...so glad you reacted to it. Nice job on the break down.
probably my favorite Soundgarden song, everything is perfect here! that trumpet at the end, golly!
love your insight man, your music theory knowledge leads to some great insights, thanks!
It's funny you pointed out the buzzing sound. I've listened to the song a thousand times and never noticed it was there. haha
Wow, I've listened to this song hundreds of times and somehow never noticed that buzzing in the background
Thanks for the reaction David. Glad you enjoyed it. Just a straight up rocking tune, with great vocals.
Love this song. Surprised you didn’t mention the saxophone and trumpet in there!
it was years before i realized they had the sax in there. i never saw that coming....
That part reminds me of Mr.bungle.
Mike patton and Chris cornell were very good friends back in the early 90s and late 80s. :D
Superunknown(1994) and Angel Dust(1992). Both best albums of the 1990s. :)
Guess he was too busy counting the double time to notice the sax 🎷 lol
Love The Mighty Soundgarden in all its glorious weirdness!
Badmotorfinger is my favorite Soundgarden album.
“Never the machine forever” this is another really good song from Down on the upside world (1996)
Damn right, there are no rules.
The Beatles, Hendrix and Eddie all broke the rules, because they didn’t bother to learn them. Beethoven and Chopin knew them, but didn’t care.

Might as well do the whole record. Drawing Flies next
Yes! I have Drawing Flies set as my alarm, get me out of bed right away!
Badmotorfinger alt metal royalty
This is my favourite Soundgarden song.
Great review David. This is one of my favorites. Have you checked out Limo Wreck or Black Rain yet? (also by Soundgarden)
Musical....GODS. Holy shit I'll never get over how good this song is. It captures the essence of the era so perfectly 💯
This song has its own gravitational field.
You need to react to " Cold Bitch" by Soundgarden. Chris 's voice was epic in that one
Hell yeah I was about to mention that exact jam..love it

Funny, I hadn’t really noticed that continuous guitar whine until you pointed it out…after it was all I could focus on. Lol. Good tune. I’m not a big Soundgarden fan, but I liked that
I wonder if that buzzing was made more prominent in the remastered version because I swear I dont remember it being so loud.
4th of July is one of those songs that grows on you.

My favorite song by Soundgarden🔥
Can't find any fault with this song. This is regularly on my list next to Like Suicide
Soundgarden 🖤🎸
I've loved this song all my life. Best SG song. Beautiful, sultry, nightmarish, lonely.
Yeah!!!! Love it!
Could you react to “Overfloater”? This song is from “Down on the Upside World” the last album from the 90’s (1996)
Overfloater is a masterpiece
Please react "Holly Water" from Soundgarden. you have the best rock song reaction channel.
Always loved that sudden kick-in. HEY!
The wailing vocals and screeching sax at the end reminded me a bit of The Stooges - Fun House for some reason. I checked and it wasn't real close, but the mix of noise did have a similar effect.
David your tough on scoring but definitely fair 👍
This song is still hard as fuck man one of my favorites
One of their best songs
My boy didn't expect the opening scream at all. Although, that was my first reaction to this song
Wow. 4th of July would be right up there near the top for me. Quite an opinion difference, interesting! I'll have to find that one sometime and give it a watch.
You created a new phrase here . Market the T-shirt " Annoying In A Pleasant Way".
My friends would rush to buy me one! 🤣🤣

Please react to 4th of July by Soundgarden. Such a hypnotic and original tune! Gnarly guitar too.

Check out Black Rain (album version).
Suggestion, Soundgarden’s Kristi or Cold Bitch.
Oh yeah
You should do something from their 1996 album down on the upside, maybe overfloater or tighter & tighter even tho I’m not sure if you would like em
Tighter and tighter is in my top 3 favorite Soundgarden songs. Hard to choose but that one hits me deep
My mistake, Tighter & Tighter is great, one of the most underrated SG songs. But FRESH TINDELLS please David!! Thats the song I was thinking of. THE most underrated SG song
Fuckin love this song
This is on my road list. I picture Sarah Connor driving off into the storm @ the end of Terminator. Way underrated.
IMO this is their best song
Great song, great react.
When the Seattle music scene opened up to us they saved Rock.
The Glam era was awful.
I have always felt that this album was the hammer that drove the nail in the coffin of that garbage.
It didn't. Glam imploded, and it was still chart topping until 1993. Slaughter, firehouse ect
🤘
Have you done outshined yet?
He's done a live version from the reunion era. Hope he'll have a go at the video.
Great comments David!!! I enjoy a lot
I've bought this album 3 times since 92 and never noticed the background fill guitar 🎸 😆😂

I'm pretty sure I did a reaction to that one already.
soundgarden
With soundgarden, throw out the rules😮
Good and i got a question when mr heretic counts what is he counting
Beats per measure.
You should do slave by silverchair!! I think it may suprised you.

The buzzing was the only thing that I hated about this song. I thought it took away from Chris's vocals. He sounded great in the verse but that buzzing in the background. They didn't need to do that

Im the biggest fan of soundgarden youd ever meet, and even I agree that the wailing guitar during the verse KIND OF SUCKS!
I don't mind it tbh
