I always felt there was something special about this song - comprehensiveness built with care and taste. I knew there were time signature changes yet still there was that great groove preserved at the same time. As I'm not a musician myself (merely a long time consumer of good music) I just couldn't count what exact time signatures they were utilzing except the 4/4's in choruses :D But I enjoyed listening to this song instantly when SG had released it. And now David here explained in a detail why it sounded so good. Thank you, David! This was a very pleasant reaction to watch and to learn new aspects from it too! Watched the video three times in a row. I also agree about Chris's vocals; definitely not his strongest but very fitting to the context of the song. It was only appropriate that the first line of his lyrics in this song were: "Time is my friend". And Matt Cameron with Ben Shepherd were keeping the groove seamlessly going all the way. Also nice and very fitting guitar playing from Kim Thayil. They all contributed together as a band so well here. As the old saying goes: The song was more than the sum of it's parts. But you, David, explained it better in all detail anyway. But hey, this is a special moment: SG song getting a perfect score on the channel. As a long time fan of the band (and a fan of your reactions more recently) this was something special for me to see! Five thumbs up out of five 👍👍👍👍👍
Excellent reaction/review of Bones of Birds! Always love your SG vids. I love the timing and other subtleties you appreciated. One of my fave touches is the little piano run they added to the second verse. Cornell's harmonizing, too. And the bass and guitar "chirps" in the outro. Just a great song off of an excellent reunion album. I read somewhere that this song is his take on the struggles of parenting (trying to protect your "young", etc). Makes this song hit harder given the big loss in 2017. Always appreciate your honesty and earnest reviews. Keep it up and look forward to more SG content!
Great song and thoughtful analysis - pleasantly surprised by your rating. I haven't watched for awhile...glad you've transitioned from points to stars.
Personally, I remember myself not appreciating this album very much back then. To me, it was a decent beginning of a new era of the band which I hoped future releases would top. Now that I know it's the end, I can appreciate it way more for it it actually is, a very good album. I went through the same process with Fear Inoculum, though I really, REALLY hope that's not the end of Tool...
Thanks for the reaction. My favorite songs off the same album are Blood On The Valley Floor and A Thousand Days Before. Loved to see a reaction to either if you get an inkling. Or both!
Surprised by this one - not because I don't love the song (it's one of my favourites off the album) but really didn't think it would be your thing! Great analysis of the timing and structure of the song. I have a suggestion for a complex rock song which I don't think has been suggested much on here (or even reacted to much at all across YT) so will have to get on the patreon as I would love to hear your feedback on it.
ну,Давидушка!вот психанул так психанул!ПЯТЬ звезд...Soundgarden мне очень нравятся и очень давно нравятся,тем приятнее то шо и Давиду зашел Soundgarden.спасиба ,Давид за глыбокий анализ!

I was a bit disappointed by this album as a whole. I think it's because it followed three albums of Audioslave, and the best songs of their worst album still beat anything off this - and I say that as a Soundgarden fan and not so much Rage Against the Machine.
Audioslave was so entirely mediocre imo. The songwriting in sg is another planet in comparison. That's like me saying "I was disappointed in audioslave because of the great sg albums that came before it and every one of those songs beats the breaks off anything audioslave did. Not to mention how exceptional euphoria morning is."
Each to their own but King Animal really grew on me and it's now my third favourite SG album. I find all the songs have aged well and it's really well produced (unlike the new Pearl Jam, recent Ozzy etc where instruments are hard to distinguish sometimes). Been Away too Long is a great straight up rock'n'roll song.
Great reaction and lesson, too! Thank you, Dave! So nice to see my favorite band having a music scored this high! 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
That was a pleasant surprise! I didn't expect you to like this song that much. It's one of the best on this album.
I never thought a request of mine would get a perfect score 🥳🤩
хороший запрос!спасиба!
Great request from you and I enjoyed the review/score, too!
Nice to see this album getting some love
There's only two songs on this album that I don't care for, the rest are fire! Soundgarden really was and is something special.
Agree. I think that all things considered, this album made sense as a follow up to dotus.

I always liked this song…Taree is another really good one off this album. I also should say Blood On The Valley Floor is also great.

Bruh, you KNOW when it's SG, I will click, like, do all the bee-boop stuff JUST because it's Soundgarden. :D But I love that you appreciate this one.
also, SERIOUS thumbs-up for all those OG wrestling interludes......
I had forgotten how good this song is!
Also, how crazy is the stuff the bass does at those points in the chorus? Love that.
This was a great song choice from kind of an under appreciated album. I miss Chris so much.

What a beautiful song this is!

Those are my faves off of King Animal, too!
Same
Increíble banda. Todos componían. Un constante desafío musical aprenderse la canción del otro
The 7/8 sounds so good here. I didn't realize it was odd till I counted it.
