The only reason this business model exists is because of the millions of stupid people that pay into it. If I was a developer I'd do the same thing. We need insane car sounds, modern villas and penthouses, house interior customisation and decent car customisation. I hope its not a let down. TDU2 has a certain atmosphere to live up to.

TDU 2 was a great game indeed. So good memories I have! And I can play it now if I want, but I cannot say the same about The Crew 1. Such a shame Ubisoft ignored the players appeal to made an offline mode.

That GTA point really stuck with me. If this game gets flamed on launch for not being a GTA style game, that's a good picture into how expectations for games have changed over the years. I'm not sure if this is entirely accurate, but it seems that over the years, games have gone from being expected to be their own, unique style to "You either stack up next to the big dogs or it's a failure".
This perspective also exist in the indie scene too. Especially with tactical shooters. Its starting to be a nusance and just killing the otherwise chill vibe of gaming as whole.
You already know it’s going to get compared directly to GTA Online especially when they were the pioneers of what GTA is today its not Rickstar fault they kept innovating their game. TDUSC doesn’t need to be exactly like GTA but it needs to be close because the original games were ahead of GTA. So all they would need to do is bring all the features the original TDU had and add on ideas throughout the years that you couldn’t go back in the old TDU or just do things in the game that is not possible in GTA no matter how small it is like a simple restaurant for social interactions. You can’t do that in GTA 5 you can bring back the barbershops and salons you had in the original one and have it as a real storefront you can go in game. You can add a shopping mall for players to socialize and shop in the game something else GTA doesn’t have for more social interactions. It’s just so many things outside of just driving you can add that are simple like side missions as a paramedic you can make rescue missions for money that contribute towards your rank. They give you special outfits like a Hong Kong paramedic rescue outfit that no one can buy if you do a certain amount of rescue missions and bring them back to the hospital. In the original they had a hospital you can change your characters appearance with a surgeon. You can have a prison in the game where you can actually go to jail or you can do a certain amount of cop missions you can earn a secret outfit that no one can buy Hong Kong police outfit. Just ideas of side activities that they can add that aren’t in other games that will make them stand out as a open world racing game they can have a real estate agency in the game where you if you buy your house you can always sell it for a different house instead of just being stuck with a house. You can have a car auction house in game where you allow players to actually sell their cars live with any special liveries they made. When it’s up for auction players from any session can see it up for sale. If you sell a certain amount of cars you can get a license. That will allow you to sell more cars than a average player that has never sold any cars. Just more ideas they can have a lobby setting for gas station pumps to actually work game or you can have turned off so when you go into a lobby it will be gas only or no gas. Parking lots and parking decks can allow for you to hold car meets that any player can join and it can a place where you can actually get out of your car to view other people cars. It’s so much stuff they can do that’s different from GTA a lot will be similar but it doesn’t matter because GTA literally does everything they’re the standard for real life open world games. All TDUSC needs to is add make it similar to GTA but with out the extreme violence that is the only downside to GTA cars can’t actually enjoy the game in a open lobby with out being blowed up to pieces. This will be a escape from GTA’s chaotic world and you get a similar experience just with no violence it’s more peaceful.
this is what happens when most of the people buying games are kids whove always been around gta 5. its nice to have a game that appeals to the older audience who played tdu 1 and 2

When houses get added, we would ofcourse see the cars the player owns filled in the garage, but it would be cool if you could also see the cars of everyone at your house parked somewhere

It needs an offline mode, there's no guarantee a smaller studio like this even sticks around, nevermind their server budget.
Also worried about the handling. I love the tighter roads, finally a map that could be interesting, but it'll just be frustrating if the cars are floaty.

I loved Test Drive Unlimited 1, played the hell out of it and made sure we "borrowed" the way the map works, while I was working on Midnight Club LA.
Midnight Club LA also has the densest traffic of all.

Every news that comes out for TDU solar crown always seems to disappoint me. No houses and we will have this boring generic hub for players that just cant seem to go away in modern racing games. So that means no houses and garages to walk around in and see your layout of cars that you have been grinding for. Needs a solo mode and the fact that it is an afterthought is a bad sign. Was hoping for a racing game with a good deep story. But here we go again with the online only approach. I take the game being cheaper a bad thing because maybe they are realizing it’s not up to par to a full priced game.

100% agree with you, and for once I have to disagree with Theo's take. $10 doesn't prove anything (especially when these prices aren't official) and is not enough of a difference to justify a difference in expectations. They have to compete against the likes of Forza, NFS and The Crew if they want us to spend time & money playing the game.
Sounds almost like motorfest idea to spawn you in that crappy tent of a car show to run into others and join their crew (which never happens). Would be much better to meet in a much larger area stadium or parking lot for a car show with many more cars visible at one time. Motorfest needs to fix the car show and find a way to give credit to the livery creators so we don't just have vanities on a basic cars
That’s why houses absolutely need to get added all over the map it’s cool idea if your a new broke player but if you get a lot of money you should be able to to buy your own house and change your spawn points the hotel should just be a noob hub
This game is reminding me of what happened to Cyberpunk 2077, they announced it too early and, even if the initial release was good (which was not) the expectation were too high. I hope this doesn't happen with this game and it delivers to what the players want.

It would be cool if the hotel was like your club space. You start at the bottom and as your club grows you get more spaces and move higher up the hotel until u get to the penthouse. That way if they do drop houses on Day 1, it would keep the hotel still relevant but also lets us keep houses to give us that tdu2 feel of walking around our houses and garages. Also I pray that we get the mega yachts too for both ourselves and for the clubs too as like a reward for getting the penthouse but those who contribute the most, or have the highest standings in that club, can keep one car in the yacht

That's one thing that's destroyed gaming, not having a single player mode or campaign. We used to play for hours even a whole day completing the career in TDU on the PS2. Not because it was online, because it was so good on it's own! Games just can't hold their own anymore and it shows.
Sounds like another good ole', "Certain Game features will not be available till 4 months after launch." scenario.
Yet, stupid people continue to buy in to this business practice, hence why it is thriving.

idk if anyone noticed but on one of the trailers it actually said the game was going to release on the switch. Now ofc the current switch couldn't even get close to running this game but my theory is that the game was supposed to launch with or near the release of the nintendo switch 2 before the game and console both got delayed ofc. This would also make more sense why they'd try making the game offline and why they're working on optimization because how cool would it be to play a game like this on the go on your nintendo switch.
Those were the old trailers back when it was coming out on the PS4 too then they made the decision to ditch last gen and make it a next gen only game their will be no Nintendo switch
Looking at the progress, I’m happy to hear that they devs are working on optimizing the game to run so smoothly. So hopefully I can hear in the next update that content will be added to make it more enjoyable to keep playing and I;m excited to see a dedicated career. So if players could have the option to play offline, they got something to do. So for me, I don’t know how much the devs could price the DLCs, but I hope it can be somewhere reasonable. I’m a bit tired of the passes since I won’t get the benefits of the free side so it’s something.

I highly dissagree with FH6 coming out this year... I bet it will be either 2025-2026 before it comes out at the rate they have been doing things lately and there has been literally no indication of a 24 release at all.

My biggest gripe with TDU SC is the no offline mode. Doesn't matter if it costs $60 or $300 if you can't play it in the future once the servers inevitably shut down.
Another thing that I'd love to see is pedestrians. They really do make the city feel alive.

Lowering the price to what AAA costed 5 years ago changes nothing to me as long as it keeps being an online only service game.
No good offline mode, or no private servers = no buy, no matter if its 60$ instead of 70.
Forza Horizon 6 is NOT coming out this year. Matt Booty has said that Xbox games will now take about 4 - 6 years to develop, and Playground Games have said that there are plenty of more updates to come with Horizon 5.

Okay, I have 1 big question. All the test drive games had police chases. In this new installment we still didn't see any police. Don't tell me that they will remove the police from the game because they are going in the Forza Horizon direction.
Yes offline and throw in some sort of story mode like you are a racer who just got out of the hospital after a terrible crash that killed 3 other racers and left you burned but you managed to recover and now you want to keep racing but need to get your skills and grove back. If this game does well they really need to think about giving us a test drive collection and maybe rebooting the series with a story mode in the first game and it continues into the next one and such. Can’t wait till this comes out.
If the game does get an Offline mode I will play it a lot more tbh. Because I know I'm not wasting my time for nothing when it finally does shut down.
I just hope they can surprise us with DLC sometime so we can drive on a 1:1 Oahu again with these graphics. Hong Kong Island looks amazing too. I am patiently waiting for this

Tdu solar crown need to have a offline mode , I dont expect a huge car list but cars near to 250 or 300 would be good but we need all latest cars and bikes . The map did not need to be huge but detailed and should not feel empty like fh5 and plese add a proper career mode where we are force to drive slow cars and slowly earn our way to more fast cars .
Why do people need so many cars in a game, in the end the vast majority plays the meta cars that are the "current" in the moment ones online in games like Forza Horizon, NFS, The Crew etc. etc.. Never understood this, i want 250-300 cars but in the end i only play a handful on the regular. People that have this kind of mindset about a race game have no clue about licensing and the amount of hoops and money a dev has to put into to this, the car industry and music industry are the worst sectors for game devs to get proper permission to use a certain car brand or song for a period of time within a game. How many good songs within the GTA franchises have we lost over the years just because licenses for songs expired...

Nacom just doesn’t have the budget and the studio just isn’t big enough to handle those cars. Remember that TDUSC focuses a lot on attention to detail. What other game lets you open a convertible top while driving released in the past decade?

If it does not come with a offline mode you will be only renting a limited time license for access.
What's going to make it a definite buy from me is if they scrap the online requirement and make offline an option like the older ones did.
I hope it follows the same DLC model as TDU2 with buying car packs and add-ons to add to the game, but still utilize in-game efforts and money to obtain the new cars/houses/clothes/accessories/ect..

I think they removed house so all the players could be together in one place, having the place be a social space and the main hub for the player.
I don't mind paying for this game, the price leak doesn't really change things too much for me. All that really matters is they do the TDU IP justice and make the game good. Hope it releases soon!!!

I think there's AI that fill events, but default is to look for players
offline should be in the game day one , don't want to bother with server instability . pay 60$ and not have access to the game , feels like you'll be scammed for your time.

Offline would be amazing. The best part of TDU was that it provided something for everyone. I enjoy driving around exploring and doing all the side stuff.

The paid dlc in wrc was all available from launch, no post launch dlc from what I can remember. And wrc generations was not triple a price at launch similar to this roomer.
If EA could just use their brain and make NFS World 2 with everything updated and little better pay model it will literally boom like in the old days.

I'm not gonna pay full price as long as there's no offline mode. So good luck trying to get pre orders without an offline mode. Not that I'd pre order anyway. I hope the game is good and I understand if it's not perfect, but I won't pay full price for it if it has many flaws.

Was a huge fan of the first TDU, played it a ton, still my favorite driving open world game. Didn't like the second much honestly, i don't remember why but i was a bit disappointed by it. I hope this delivers.

Does anyone know if the game is PVP only? We've seen plenty of online racing/interaction but I don't recall seeing anything where it's just racing the AI. I really don't want to deal with requiring online interactions just to compete in each race or championship. I'm happy enough for the option to play online and PVP, but as a console player who doesn't bother with the online subscriptions otherwise, I doubt I will buy the game if there's no option to just race and compete on your own.
According to their newsletters, most of the game will be PVP. The only exception is that AI opponents are added when there are not enough players online.
I like the model where you purchase a game and there is no way for you to spend real money after your purchase
And the crew 2 also had houses too.
The only deal breaker for me is if it ends up still having always online drm or not. It could be the best game ever, but I won't buy it if it isn't permanently playable.
If this game requires an Internet connection to install, let alone play; i won't be getting it, however much it costs.
I am afraid that they may delay the TDU SOLAR CROWN to probably 2035 for further polishing the game.
I'm going to wait until release to make a decision. The recent playtest that I took part in its very buggy. Doesn't have stable 60fps mind you this was on PC with RTX 3090 TI settings was at medium. Averaged around 40fps or less. Game kept crashing. Hardly had any races with players probably 3 at the most. So most of the time was racing with AI. If they add offline play then they will have a advantage over TC3. Time will tell

My man forgetting that games costed 60 bucks in the 2000-2010, and still do on PC. Just because it's 10 euros cheaper doesn't mean it's not a triple A, just look at Baldur's Gate 3, which arguably required a *lot* more work.
I’m not one to rush since I want it to be optimized but they need to be aware of the upcoming GTA 6. Once it hits the shelves, I’m pretty sure almost every game will lose attention
