And the graphics were insane when it came out. I always used cockpit view and could not stop looking around the details.....really made me feel I own these cars.
When I was a kid I remember wanting my dad to upgrade our computer because I wanted to play it so much. And then the pirated version never got past the first race. Child me was sad
It was a game that definitely had its own feel and specific identity that's for sure. Probably set the path for the open world arcade racers we see today - as said in the video.
@@romus3550 yea, no need to worry about the physics, imo they’re very good and its better than dirt rally 2.0 on tarmac and on par with everything else
This was the first game I ever completed 100% on the Xbox 360. It was hell because one of trophies was to drive on every road on the island and anyone that's played the game knows how massive it is. Took me days to complete but I loved it. Had so many music cds burned to the 360 and would play this game all night during summer holidays with headphones on and occasionally when driving along the mountain routes I'd see an amazing view of the island in the distance that made me stop and take it in. It'll always hold a special place in my heart.
I liked unlocking all roads in the sequel, which is even more gruelling - because it's all the asphalt plus all the mapped dirt roads, while the original only had asphalt. And at the end, there's always just a tiny nearly invisible piece of street missing.
To me, this game will remain one of the top 10 racing games ever made. I especially like the scale of it. Even new Forza games don't give you the sheer scale of an open map as this does. Really, what a tremendous game.
though i can say for its time it was definitely a massive technical achievement and was a lot of fun for a kid in the mid 00s, a game like the crew is essentially this but more in every regard. the map is 10x the size, more cars, more customisation for the cars, more types of cars, bikes, monster trucks boats planes. better handling better graphics, a levelling system for the vehicles, more property and garages to have etc. to have it up there purely for nostalgia is warranted of course but it racing games have come a long way since 06.
I remeber playing this as a kid and being absolutely blown away by its size, costumization and especially the dealerships - it was like a dream come true for little me, to just roam around all sorts of dealerships and choosing my dream cars.
Right the map size, attention to detail in the cars, the roster of vehicles and the MMO aspect were light years ahead of the competition in 2006, TDU was truly ahead of its time. The handling was tough but still playable and enjoyable
Test Drive Unlimited is still one of my favorite games, I was in O‘ahu with my family a few years ago, and driving around, I was constantly thinking about how insane driving that Island in under a hour would be in real life. I really want them to remake this game in a more modern engine, It would look incredible because Oahu looks incredible.
PS2 version was fire also. They somehow made both versions most impressive versions of those consoles. PS2 and PSP versions were a swan song for great platforms.
I played this game to death on my PS2. I managed to get a copy on PC a few years later and it blew my mind. The graphics were much better, more cars, more features. It was like playing the game for the first time again. This and Midnight Club 3 DE Remix were, in my opinion, the best racing games of the 2000s. Juiced 2 and Underground 2 were also great.
@@SH_Hof I personally prefer 1 over 2, especially because of how addicting it was. Juiced 2 felt kinda tedious at times. The career mode was amazing for its time. It had a calander system with randomly generated race events and you can even host your own events. Betting is more immersive, you can gain respect by raising bets, accepting opponent's bet and scaring them with a high bet. But you can lose respect by backing out and lowering bets. It also has drag racing which in my personal opinion is the best mode. The crew system was better as well. Instead of paying 1 million for driver x and own every crew race in seconds, you have to actually increase your crew members skill and composure by making them race in juiced 1. And finally the mobile phone, you can take crew challenges for more respect or do pinkslip races. There are also many things that I haven't mentioned. But hey! If you prefer 2 anyways, then who am I to judge? 😂
I have a specific memory of this game, that being when I was flying in a Ferrari I had just bought on one of the freeways. There were two dudes driving side by side at a somewhat normal speed going the same way as me. As I got closer I started to hear them chatting over the mic about their days and as I flew by one of them said "hey there goes a guy in a Ferrari" I said "hey guys" and we chatted for a minute then I went about where I was headed. It felt so cool and natural. I loved this game.
I'm surprised you didn't mention anything about the PC modding community, those guys have done some INSANE work expanding this game! Looking forward to your TDU2 review :3
Yea ikr. Project paradise online launcher and the Platinum mod for TDU1 and TDU World online launcher and the still in development of the modpack for TDU2
I know lmao can't believe he didn't know his hypothetical "mod" exists... just wish TDU1 was better at recognising controllers. Sucks to get out 360 every time to play this game
I legit dont get why ppl dont fully play the game before making a review. I kniw you have to get to Champion rank before you unlock Hardcore mode but like damn, it's not that hard to do even just starting off. Use cheat engine to get alot of money and then buy every house and every car you see and you will eventually unlock it. A few ppl have tried making the task of getting to Hardcore mode way easier, it just a hassle of doing it.
First Kacey reviews TDU, now Colourshed? I’m glad it’s getting the respect it deserves! EDIT: (6:28) Speaking of fan-made mods, Platinum’s a good mod if you’re interested in playing TDU on the PC!
@@Kaceydotme tbh nobody's mentioning that you got a lot of people interested in Test Drive again. you had Kuru playing it on streams and Colourshed is reviewing it as well (possibly by coincidence but i imagine he's aware of you) this is good publicity for the devs making Solar Crown as well
Yep Bob oh btw if u watch Kacey video when he starts talking about the Multiplayer he zooms over someone's name. That player's name was ZoM, that was me ;D
thats what it was described as by the creators if i remember right. i still remember how dumb the ign ppl looked when it was being described to them at e3
I loved this game. On PC with a wheel, fully manual 6 gear H-shifter and pedals with a clutch it was a whole new experience. Burnouts, donuts, drifting.. I was in my own world. No Forza Horizon could achieve what TDU did. Great times!
@@siddharthakvr5154 agree. tdu 2 had somewhat clunky driving physics. the crew had even worse physics, that's why it never clicked on me, even tho the concept is very solid.
@@НикитаЛубин oh yeah the crew is pretty terrible...I saw a review by whitelight...didn't personally play it so I can't tell for sure...but from what I've heard it's TERRIBLE.
just for clarification tdu1>tdu2 right ? couple of years ago i got meself tdu2 because i wanted to enjoy that tdu on pc, but according to the fanbase and the modding scene, i should have gone for tdu1
@@DarkIzo Correct, the TDU fanbase says that TDU1 is better than TDU2. Personally, I enjoyed TDU2 more than TDU1 despite the unpredictable/broken handling. But you shouldn't let other people change your opinion. You should always play the game for yourself or watch some gameplay videos and formulate your own opinion about the game. FYI, TDU2 has a fan made patch called "Unofficial Patch". You should download that mod if you have TDU2 on PC. TDU1 has a mod called "Platinum Mod". You should download that mod if you have TDU1 on PC.
This was my first test drive game, and as someone that lived on Oahu at that time, it was cool to see the island re-created video game format. I was so impressed and love playing this game
The map is so fantastic, I remember a particular highway in the East I found in a club race, always loved the scenery but never found it in free roam. The map really is pretty massive. Some of the house have such fantastic roads to drive on, one house on the tallest northwestern mountain has like an 8 or 10 mile awesome swervy road that's awesome going down.
I feel like you missed an opportunity to talk about the soundtrack. I had a copy of the game on PS2 as a kid, and the rock station is SO nostalgic for me. When I got into Spotify a few years back, a lot of songs from this game were there, and it felt like coming home.
Sgt Rock - I'm Hip is a cool track from the game that is unfortunately unpublished. I tracked down the musician, who is now known as Mr. B the Gentleman Rhymer and asked him for stems or a high quality version, but he hasn't been able to find them.
this game def had a lot of cool tracks. the electronic station especially, those soulwax tracks fuckin destroy and theres a really cool aphex twin deep cut which still surprises me to this day that it got in a game. the rock station is also really nostalgic with songs like i live for and back again, and the funk station is super fun. always thought tdu2 was a major step down only having 2 stations and though there was still some good tunes there were also a lot of really "meh" ones while theres not rly any songs i dislike in tdu1
this game was one of my absolute favorites! i can still remember one easter egg -- there was a secret spot on top of a hill near the southeast corner that would teleport you to a remote island with a futuristic speed track. Also, i was surprised you didn't mention the weird gameplay element of having to buy various properties to house your cars, and most properties only had room for 2 or 3 cars, and sometimes you'd have to search through your various properties to figure out where you last parked your Cadillac Sixteen or whatever.
I tried this game on PC a long time ago and ran into a save bug making progress impossible. Then years later, I tried it again when the Platinum mod came out and I gotta say it really breathed new life into the game. Especially because of the MASSIVE car list expansion. Unfortunately one section on the northwest end of the map disappeared and I couldn't finish it.
There is a mod which adds 4k skyboxes, increased draw distance, 800+ more cars, rebalanced events, more rims and fully functional online mode to the game. Its called TDU Platinum mod. Give it a shot, changes the experience completely.
Online isn't fully functional though, only freeroam was restored. But it's still lots of fun to explore the island with strangers and friends in exotic cars
I remember seeing a review for this game as a kid when it came out. It was absolutely ahead of it's time. Which is why I was absolutely devastated when it wouldn't run on my PC.
The amount of hours me and my cousin sank into this game in the mid/late 2000s was staggering. I still remember taking turns doing the million dollar race around the island
The thing that blew me away the most? Playing as a kid with my first steering wheel and headphones and pressing the button that rolls down the window - and the sound from inside the car changed completely! Back then, that was HUGE for my little brain
This game had so many flaws but I really played a lot on my laptop back in the day. It was the best pick up and play type racing game for me. I even loved how you could literally go to a specific showroom for a certain brand. Upgrading was also the same, you had to visit the tuning shop. Such little details were good.
I came back to TDU a few months ago as I just had an urge to play it. Honestly for a game that is nearly 20 years old it still feels very fresh and really fun to play. I used to hate doing the long races as a kid because I would always mess up. Doing it now feels amazing. I'm pretty sure most steering wheels are compatible with it as well.
Just finished replaying TDU2, great timing. So many things still aren't seen in new games that these games had. Hoping the new one will live up to the legacy.
Test Drive 4 & Test Drive 5 were 2 of my favorites at the time. NFS III & High Stakes as well with High Stakes being one of my all time favorite racing games. Loved the police chases and being the police calling in roadblocks etc. The original Playstation racing games were all so much fun.
It would be interesting to see a review of Lego City Undercover. You seem to review open-world GTA like games a lot and this is one of them. It's pretty easy and chill. I know most of the video ideas come from Patreon but I am a child so I don't think I can subscribe to it.
My favorite racing game of all time. I love the map, the more “classy” feel, and the effort it takes to earn cars and real estate. I like Forza Horizon, but there are several problems that make it inferior. In Forza Horizon, you literally get cars every five seconds via wheel spin or gifts. You never earn your collection. I swear I had a million bucks and over five cars in the first hour of playing Forza Horizon 4. In TDU, I EARNED every car and was proud to have it. The dealerships in TDU are a phenomenal idea as well. I think Forza Horizon could benefit from those. Especially with Forza Vista. Can you imagine walking around a dealership with those graphics!? Lastly, in Forza Horizon any car can be upgraded to almost any class, which really messes with the balance and purpose of your car collection. I prefer TDU where a “B class” car is always a “B class” car - you can upgrade it, but it still stays within its class. I really hope TDU SC is a great reimagining of this classic.
I recommend checking out the the fan update mod on pc. It has over 800 cars and updated textures. Also the new test drive should be releasing in a couple of months so I'm exited for that
can we just appreciate the Music for this Gem ?! I freaking love this Chilled Music on the Map or the Car Dealership.... simply Magic.... also i remember climbing the Mountain in the South just to find that Eden Symbol to get to the Mystery Island
Test Drive Unlimited and Dead Rising were literally the reason I bought an Xbox 360. It was the first time I ever had the money to buy a brand new console, and I bought one with both of those games. TDU was simply incredible! Easily one of my favourite racing games of all time. I ended up buying the official 360 steering wheel and it elevated the game to legendary levels, and made the game an absolute joy to play. I'd spend hours just cruising around, driving nice cars, buying cool houses, taking in the sights....it really was amazing! I remember you could even rip CDs to the Xbox hard drive, and if you put 'TESTDRIVE' somewhere in the playlists name, it would show up on the in-game car stereo like it was a CD with track names on the display and everything! I think you could do it with 3 or 4 playlists/albums, so it was almost like you had a CD multi-changer in the car! I can't tell you how many hours I spent just cruising around Hawaii listening to tunes. Good times.... That game was the ultimate 'driving game'. I always say, it wasn't necessarily a great _racing_ game, but it was one of the best _driving_ games ever made! The only games that even come close to it these days are The Crew and The Crew 2, which I believe was made by largely the same dev team that worked on Test Drive Unlimited, but those games are nowhere near as good. The map on The Crew (and The Crew 2) is amazing, it's recreation of America and is undoubtedly the star of the show, but the car handling is very arcade-y, and The Crew 2 can get quite cartoon-y with it's over-the-top customization options. You can't buy new houses either, you're just stuck with one. TDU needs a remaster or a reboot.
Oh god yes my favourite car game ever made. It's a bit drole nowadays but damn this was insane back in the day.. Originally I had tdu for the ps2, which has all this amazing map except on ps2!! Imagine having all that to explore as a kid on your ps2... Ultimately the 360 version revamped the game somewhat, and yeah, it's just an amazing piece of gaming history, just dated today, and possibly a bit lacklustre to new players in comparison to what's on offer now
I remember there was a broken challenge in tdu where you could make $10k in like 10 seconds that i did over and over to get rich. You had to hit a certain speed on a curvy mountain road but if you just turned around at the start it was straight and super easy to hit the goal speed.
I used a challenge in the city down south on a road right at the coast to make some money. delivering cars was also a good source as long as you did a perfect and got the +50% bonus cash
6:30 Yes, those mods have been around for TDU on PC for a decade. TDU1 and 2 have massive modding communities to this day. TDU Platinum and TDU2 Serenity.
I loved being able to go to the dealerships and pick factory option wheels and interior trims. Something not even Forza allows. I hope TDU Solar Crown brings all of this back.
Original Test Drive games (1 and 2) were developed by DSI (Distinctive Software) and published by Accolade. DSI later became EA Canada and made first NFS which holds big resemblance to first test Drive games.
I remember back when I was like 9-10 years old my parents didn't want me playing video games like GTA. Once my friends were over and he had brought over Vice city and my dad came down and was like what are you guys playing.....Thankfully we were just driving around so we just said we were playing Test Drive lol and it worked like a charm
Khal Drogo23, well, if your dad knew, he could have let you all played Midnight Club III: DUB Edition/Remix, which was also made by Rockstar. Also, it is one of the main pillars of The Great Racing Games of the Sixth Generation of Video Games.
@@paxhumana2015 Think i've played that a few times here and there. I said this cause it was the first game we could think all think of on the spot since we were in the hot seat to answer what game lol everytime I hear or see the game Test Drive I always think of that moment for some reason cause it was just absolute hilarious how it all played.
THE best open world racing game of all time. There were no other games quite like TDU at its heyday. The subpar physics were easily made up for with the rest of this game's personality, which didn't exist in any other racing game at the time. I mean, you literally had buy your own houses/condos so that you'd have garage space for your new cars. You actually got to walk around car dealership showrooms. You played the game because you wanted to be the most balled out car collector on the island. Ugh. No other game made downtime so much fun. My friends and I used to spend endless hours doing unofficial, freeroam, GPS-based point-to-point races across the map. My god. That was the peak of gaming fun for me. So much nostalgia for this masterpiece. Thank you for this video.
I remember buying this game second hand for PS2 not knowing what to expect. I was in the mood for a racing game and the back of the cover showing Hawaii had me intrigued. Turned out to be one of my favourite racing games ever. The size of the map was mind blowing for the time, a ton of cars to choose from and the fact that you had to drive to the dealership was so cool, the different challenges, and you could even have custom races against people online. Truly a classic.
L.A. Rush is a game with an impressive city map size for PS2 but the race entry fees sucked most of the fun out of the game due to having to re-play the early races over and over to earn money each time you wanted to re-try a higher level race.
I LOVED that game so much. They were way ahead of the time. I wish they had capitalized on the timing and made more games before Forza stole that crown
You can do one thing in Test Drive Unlimited that you can't in real life, at least not since 1982: drive a full lap of Oahu. The closest you can get to driving a lap in the real world (at least without going significantly offroad or backtracking) is the eastern two thirds of the island as you have to turn southeast at Haleiwa or Waialua as the Farrington Highway west from Haleiwa ends at a state park, Ka'ena Point, at the northwestern tip of Oahu, which used to be connected to the other part of the Farrington Highway along the west coast but the road was torn up when the park was opened. I know the game was designed around online but the offline single player mode is still a full game experience for those of us who don't need to play against other people. I don't think I ever tried to connect to the online servers in Test Drive Unlimited and the only reason I did for TDU 2 was for the patches to fix what was a rather broken game at retail. As for Solar Crown, I saw someone mention somewhere that the scenery in the trailer closely resembled scenery Bigben Interactive already used for some rally stages in Corsica in one of the WRC games and Corsica would be an ideal location for a next generation (well, technically, next next generation although it'll also be on 8th gen consoles) Test Drive Unlimited game since it's a much larger island than both Oahu and Ibiza combined. I'm not saying it's set in Corsica, I don't have any inside information, just that I approve of the possibility.
6:17 You are speaking like you never knew there was a part 2. It got a better looking version released in 2010 with this island, plus Ibiza with more details. Anyways, some of the things you mentioned were addressed in the sequel. Oh also, both games are highly modable which even work online and people have ported more HD vehicle from the Forza series and created all out community patches adding hundreds more cars and graphical fixes and mods.Check out TDU World online restoration mod after servers were taken down and the Unofficial Patch for the game that add new cars. Totally fun! It really is the most appealing open world racing game due to all the modding to keep it relevant all these years later. Additionally the third game in the series is releasing later this year. It takes place in Hong Kong, but I do hope the first 2 games islands get remastereed as well in this version! They did make an all new map for part 2, Ibiza, but also remade the original Hawaii map as well. So hopefully they continue that tradition here as well for Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown!
One of my friends came round to my house one day during the summer holiday, both of us were into Top Gear so naturally we started to play TDU. I went for a toilet break and while I was in there he traded all of my cars in and bought an orange Nissan 350z as a replacement. It was too long ago for me to remember which cars I had... But I was fucking livid! hahaha.
Test Drive amazing game to enjoy alot of cars with many type of cars and race around Hawaiian street with lots of radio to jam race feels and get some free vehicles by beating racing club
This was in my opinion the the best racing/car game ever! The vibe and the feeling that it gave you, driving around beautiful Oahu, the little details like turning signals and being able to open up the windows in cars made this game just amazing. It felt so alive, and also the fact to buy the cars in carshops instead of a list made it such a better experience then any other car games, in my opinion. Also the soundtracks were fantastic. I hope there will be a modern game similar to this one day
At almost age 50, I still play this on a PC setup with a playseat with Logitech G25 wheel, buttkicker, 5.1 audio and a 50 inch TV. Thanks to modders and editing tools, you can continue to add the latest cars (latest Bentley Bacalar) cutomize them to more realism and drive them. Power-cruising in traffic is just great and there just is hardly enough space to v-max a Bugatti Chiron Super Sport, while it's hard to keep an Alpine A110, Bugatti Type 57 or Jaguar E-Type on a bendy mountain road at much lower speeds. Engine noises can be great in this game too. So all in all, best driving game ever!
Only few things were better like an extra island to drive on, weather and smoother roads, but mostly it turned up being worse then the first game. The physics were worse, horrible narrative with annoying characters, pointless walking around and house decorations, no custom radios and the visuals aren't really a step up, everything looks very artifical almost like a cartoon. They got a new producer for the second game and it seems like she wanted to make a new Sims game, but got stuck with a driving game instead.
This game is the racing game that makes me tear up with nostalgia, on 360 when it launched this was like going 10 years+ into the future except it was good. When it was really populated and people cruised around using their blinkers, windows and convertible tops, and heaps of people were always cruising around oh man. Catching up with someone on the freeway and doing pulls using the horn to time just like in real life, what a great experience. No racing game since has accomplished this. A large part of that I think is that TDU1 was fairly barebones as far as challenges go and didn't constantly spam you with things to do like Forza or NFS does. You made your own fun, which was always better than anything a developer can make.
I never owned the first title but I CANT WAIT for you to review TDU2. That’s the one I had on the 360. Sunk a lot of hours into that game and have a lot of good memories with friends and family playing it too. Easily one of my fav racers.
One of my favorite racing games like ever. Great huge map. Great variety of cars. I love how you can choose different OEM wheels and interior colors/materials. Lots of races. You need to buy houses to store your cars. What a great game. However in my experience, the biggest issue with this game is the glitches that never got fixed. On PC, traffic cars sometimes are invisible and you end up hitting them at any time. The worst is when you’re delivering a car, hit an invisible traffic car and miss out on the big bonus for a perfect delivery. I had to restart so many deliveries just to get the bonus. But then there’s another issue that I’ve experienced on PC and Xbox. During side missions, like deliveries or when you’re giving someone a ride, the driving meter goes down for literally no reason. Either the road is imperfect, or I don’t know what’s the issue, but it went down on me when I was going really slowly, just watching the meter. Really annoying and is the biggest issue I have with this game. It’s just not finished due to these 2 issues. Other than that though, the game is freaking epic and I love it! Not a big fan of the second one and the whole solar crown. Hopefully the new game will be better.
This game back in the day was amazing! By today's standards, its still a great game, but all it needs is a remaster graphically and to add some new cars and it's a reborn masterpiece! Edit - Its still pretty good graphically by today's standards!
My very first experience with this game was on PSP... And I was absolutely stunned/ blown away at the fact this game could even be played on portable hardware from that era.
Great review! Disagree with some points but I loved the game so much when it came out. I remember glitching into the race track and drifting with my friend for hours. Also the in-game locations were somewhat accurate to real life which was a nice feature but mainly the idea of going to dealerships was brilliant. I hope the new TD is similar to the first game.
I remember playing Test Drive: Off Road Wide Open. This was around the time I had dreamed of a truly wide-open online type game, something that didn't exist at the time. I read a gaming magazine, and one image stood out to me, it looked like a diner, with cars parked around it, and my mind went wild with ideas on how the future of gaming could look like, being able to visit the diner after a race, grab some food with your character and chill, before leaving and racing around this vast world i'd imagined. Look at us now, GTA Online with cash grab mechanics and massive griefing. The only thing close to what I'd imagine is the Horizon series, but even then, it's not exactly there as it's missing the interactivity of the Test Drive series, rather just a large racing playground where you get showered with cars. A perfect combination of Horizon, Test Drive and GTA mechanics (as in, your main character is the character itself, and not the car, allowing you to interact with the world). Hmmm, now that I think of it, something akin to Star Citizen (world immersion wise), but grounded in the car world instead.
This is the first online game I ever played and I remember how cool I though it was that I could do my single player while also seeing real players on the MASSIVE map... it was unimaginable at the time. I met a guy from Singapore and he auctioned an Enzo for me for 6000$ or something like that.... in the first 2 hrs of gameplay :) I still drove my Saturn Sky until I explored the entire map and all it's roads before I ever drove the Enzo. I guess that's how much I loved the idea of cruising. Can't drive on the roads of Oahu for hours in expensive cars, going over the speed limit IRL, so I'll sette for doing it in a game. And you had clubs you could join... This game was so far ahead of it's time. I recall the driving was weird, slopes felt like they were made from very rough and few polygons that made the car jump around, rather than there being more polygons in the geometry of the road. That is what was annoying about it's driving. TDU2 fixed that problem, but annoyed the hell out of me with it's story. It just felt like a true spoiled brats simulator, I really hated it. I preferred the TDU1 approach, where it felt a bit more like you just went to Hawaii and got an apartment and a house and quietly decided to just race and do random encounter favor for NPCs. It just felt a bit more... elegant, dignified. TDU2 felt like a joke and I'll never forget it for it. Maybe you'll review it one day and let me know if you feel the same.
I loved buying houses and storing your cars in different houses. You could invite your friend over to visit your house and even take a tour of your house. Your friend can also sit in the passenger side while you drive around. I also loved driving to the dealership to buy cars.
I love that the mundane activities in this game. As a kid i just imagine myself living a life like this, take out your car and just driving around without feeling like a racer. Just everyday stuff
My first Test Drive was 3, on a 286 black&orange screen laptop in about 1993. TDU1, however, even my mother enjoyed cruising around with on a wheel setup, years later. Like, she legit had fun. And I see there's been a revival of sorts with TDU Platinum, gonna have to check it out.
For those of you who want to play a game that is similar to Test Drive Unlimited today, I recommend playing *The Crew 2.* It has a huge map (a condensed version of America), you can check out cars before buying them, you can customize both interiors and exteriors, there is a large variety of races, and the game even has boats and planes.
That game was really something else, just driving across Hawaii, buying cars and houses and more driving... It felt like a vacation.
Litterally gave me vacation vibes to back than, ahh the nostalgia
And the graphics were insane when it came out. I always used cockpit view and could not stop looking around the details.....really made me feel I own these cars.

Stunning isn’t it. Did you have a wheel for the cruising ? I might get the wheel for immersion.
I liked unlocking all roads in the sequel, which is even more gruelling - because it's all the asphalt plus all the mapped dirt roads, while the original only had asphalt. And at the end, there's always just a tiny nearly invisible piece of street missing.
What prize did you get after discovering all the roads on the island? I wonder people get different reward.
is it even completable now on 360 without online? seems like there arent enough missions to do
To me, this game will remain one of the top 10 racing games ever made.
@@LFXGaming the crew is a terrible comparison it did everything it wanted to do but so lackluster and just outright broken.
I remeber playing this as a kid and being absolutely blown away by its size, costumization and especially the dealerships - it was like a dream come true for little me, to just roam around all sorts of dealerships and choosing my dream cars.
same bro, I loved that game on the xbox 360 but forgot about it for over 6 years and now I just remembered it and I'm gonna get it on pc
It doesn't even looks that much worse than The Crew 2. And it's way more fleshed out, this game was ahead of its time.

@Austin King Some people don't want an Xbox
Right the map size, attention to detail in the cars, the roster of vehicles and the MMO aspect were light years ahead of the competition in 2006, TDU was truly ahead of its time.

This game was amazing on the psp and I was always shocked how they were able to fit all of it on it.
Facts tho! It was lit!!!

I would be glad to see a Juiced review soon

Please yes
@@paltzis7295 Juiced 2 was the better game. Great title.
I liked the ps2 Version even more than the PC or 360 Version
Yes, definitely.!
As I got closer I started to hear them chatting over the mic about their days and as I flew by one of them said "hey there goes a guy in a Ferrari"
I said "hey guys" and we chatted for a minute then I went about where I was headed. It felt so cool and natural. I loved this game.
the online was so fun. many hours blasting bumper to bumper down roads with club members

tdu1>tdu2 right ?

Personally, I enjoyed TDU2 more than TDU1 despite the unpredictable/broken handling.
But you shouldn't let other people change your opinion. You should always play the game for yourself or watch some gameplay videos and formulate your own opinion about the game.

This was my first test drive game, and as someone that lived on Oahu at that time, it was cool to see the island re-created video game format. I was so impressed and love playing this game
@Issam Melzi very accurate, some buildings were insanely accurate as well and where on the map they were placed
Same, it’s one of my favourite playlists on Apple Music!
Sgt Rock - I'm Hip is a cool track from the game that is unfortunately unpublished. I tracked down the musician, who is now known as Mr. B the Gentleman Rhymer and asked him for stems or a high quality version, but he hasn't been able to find them.
@@SianaGearz If you have the pc game, I recall that it was quite easy to find the folder with all the music in it to extract.

this game def had a lot of cool tracks. the electronic station especially, those soulwax tracks fuckin destroy and theres a really cool aphex twin deep cut which still surprises me to this day that it got in a game. the rock station is also really nostalgic with songs like i live for and back again, and the funk station is super fun. always thought tdu2 was a major step down only having 2 stations and though there was still some good tunes there were also a lot of really "meh" ones while theres not rly any songs i dislike in tdu1
this game was one of my absolute favorites! i can still remember one easter egg -- there was a secret spot on top of a hill near the southeast corner that would teleport you to a remote island with a futuristic speed track.
^ this! TDU Platinum is absolutely fantastic.
I remember seeing a review for this game as a kid when it came out. It was absolutely ahead of it's time. Which is why I was absolutely devastated when it wouldn't run on my PC.
The amount of hours me and my cousin sank into this game in the mid/late 2000s was staggering.
I still remember taking turns doing the million dollar race around the island
you & I and our timing, dude. hahaha
The thing that blew me away the most? Playing as a kid with my first steering wheel and headphones and pressing the button that rolls down the window - and the sound from inside the car changed completely! Back then, that was HUGE for my little brain
yep!
I spent many a bus ride to college and back playing this on my PSP. It blew my mind that you could have a game this big portably.
Just finished replaying TDU2, great timing. So many things still aren't seen in new games that these games had. Hoping the new one will live up to the legacy.
its odd that the only game that reminds me of tdu is gtao.

Probably the latter
Remember that 200 km long sprint race around the island, it takes around an hour to finish... what a game it was...
Test Drive 4 & Test Drive 5 were 2 of my favorites at the time. NFS III & High Stakes as well with High Stakes being one of my all time favorite racing games. Loved the police chases and being the police calling in roadblocks etc. The original Playstation racing games were all so much fun.
Holy shit guys it's happening! I don't even know how long I've awaited this moment!

Ultimately the 360 version revamped the game somewhat, and yeah, it's just an amazing piece of gaming history, just dated today, and possibly a bit lacklustre to new players in comparison to what's on offer now
There was a time race around the island that would take an hour to complete one lap. Super cool!

L.A Rush would be an awesome game to review
L.A. Rush is a game with an impressive city map size for PS2 but the race entry fees sucked most of the fun out of the game due to having to re-play the early races over and over to earn money each time you wanted to re-try a higher level race.
that was a really fun game.
I LOVED that game so much. They were way ahead of the time. I wish they had capitalized on the timing and made more games before Forza stole that crown
I adore this game, spent too much hours on it
You can do one thing in Test Drive Unlimited that you can't in real life, at least not since 1982: drive a full lap of Oahu.
I'm not saying it's set in Corsica, I don't have any inside information, just that I approve of the possibility.

hitchiker : no thanks .. lol
Thank you!

Excellent!
I have great racing game videos too. I would really appreciate a sub (no bot here, dont worry).
I feel like devs these days should focus more on the feeling of owning fast cars, instead of just racing them

Headphones on, inside helmet view, your favourite music on in background, Kawasaki meaty exhaust sound. 10/10 Game!
There was a 'Hardcore' mode (for PC anyway) that made the gravity 'realistic', so the uneven bumpy elevation changes made it truly undrivable!
I used to do exactly the same. Just pick a car and drive around for hours on end
6:20 Those words toyed with my emotions in a way that they've never been toyed with before.
I love that you can Customize ur Character and buy different Buildings. Also you can use ur Windows and the Blinker while driving always liked that.
I miss these times. I miss my friends. I miss my dad. I wish I appreciated my life more at the time.
