- I ride from Hossana to Butajira, across the friendly Hadiya and Kambaata zones, before reaching the much more hostile Wolaita zone.
In the morning, the ride is very pleasant, but as I reach the Wolaita zone in the afternoon, it becomes very difficult to progress, because of the constant harassment from the people living near the road.
What a relief to finally reach Sodo.

Hi Yves. I've been following your journey since you were passing through the Balkans and I am a big fan. I just want to add a little about your commentary regarding the term "Faranji". You are correct that it means foreigner and that it comes from the "Franks". The word originates from the crusader era. During the crusades, the Arabs started to refer to crusaders as "Faranji" because most of the crusaders were French or "Franks". The Arabs couldn't tell between the various European crusaders so all crusaders (Europeans) became "Faranji". The term was spread by the Arabs to other corners of the world, from Ethiopia to Asian countries as far away as Indonesia and Malaysia.
Hi, thank you very much for the in depth explanation.
Excellent, thank for the explanation

So interesting ! That's why it sounds so familiar to the Thaï "farang" !

As a kid I would wake up every Saturday morning and watch cartoons. As an adult I wake up every Saturday morning and see what Yves is doing. Such a cool journey -- thank you for showing us the world!
You found yourself some very good friends, especially the ones who followed you for a long stretch of your jurney. . They were trying to protect you. I was hoping you would invite them to eat with you. They would have appreciated the gesture, but would have declined respectfully. That is customary behaviour in Ethiopa and in Africa in general'
Great video. I lived in Ethiopia and still have great memories. 🥲
your tour in Ethiopia is really funny more than any country. welcome to Ethiopia. again.

I just found this channel. This man’s vibe seems like he found they secret key to enlightenment somewhere and is willing to give it out to anyone who asks
Your interpretation of how the Ethiopian people look towards the future and not the past has earned you a new subscriber and now I would love to visit this place where as I would never have before, thankyou.
I’ve probably spent more time watching your stuff compared to the others with 1 million subscribers who do country touring. Idk what it is but you seem more genuine and not fake and also you’re not as oblivious of other cultures. Like you naturally really respect the other cultures and you done prior research. And you have seriously funny moments that you dealt with so casually and me and my family would really laugh at them. Especially when you were eating under the shade and the tuktuk dude done a uturn and stood right in front of you like as if you’re a monument and just started at you while you eat. You were so cool (given that you’re French, respectfully). And there are also moments you made food seem really appetising. I saw you eat pasta and canned sardines, I literally bought pasta and sardines and slow cooked the pasta like you did and ah man it tasted amazing. Keep it going and we have a suggestion to you. VISIT MOROCCO 🇲🇦
Thank you for your nice comment.
It's not gonna be very soon, but I am really looking forward to reaching Morocco, I am sure I am gonna have an amazing time in your country.
My beloved Ethiopia 😍😍😍😍
I genuinely like your content. I'm Kenyan and I wouldn't dare going around like this. Best of luck man. I think I've watched all your African videos. Salute!
"where are you going?" is a great philosophy.
You are really a positive person, the way you see things shows me how thought full you are. I hope you accomplish what you set to accomplish when you started in France!!! wish you all the best all the way to your destination!!!
Bravo mec! Mes grandes salutations du Maroc. Je connais bcp de pays en Afrique noire, mais grâce à toi je découvre l'Éthiopie. Magnifique pays. Tu as l'art et la manière de nous faire aimer ce pays. Bravo

Wonderful, beautiful Ethiopia and it's beautiful Ethiopian people.. and great Africans...Thank you so very much for the video.
😂😂😂😂😂 begging for money doesn’t make you beautiful, foolish people
@@hindiyahussen2030 foreigners are new to them. Life moves slow in the country side. The average day is farming and everyday stuff. The perception that the west puts out to the world is that they are rich and wealthy. So when they see a white guy they think hes made of money, blame your media and agenda rather than the innocent playful country side kids who are happy to see a foreigner. In india and its the same thing except they are aggressive and ungrateful. Notice how happy they were when he gave them candy.
Well the kids trying to steal the camera was not wonderful
Have all the kids, especially in poorer communities around the globe, ever been wonderful including in your country?
It so cool seeing you travel like this and showing us these fascinating places. Love these videos and stay safe!

The words you use in elaborating the videos are wonderful and most descriptive . Wish u enjoyable and safe arrival.
Great content you mention, Harold and Bald & Bankrupt. Two of the greatest no fancy editing annoying music just the story long format, the journey. That's what we like. Watching them helped you create your own great content and format. Well done from the upper mid-west of United States.

Hi brother, I am from Ethiopia. I am really admire you adventurous trips. Keep going bro!
Hi Yves I watched most of your videos and enjoyed every bit of it. The zone you were in the middle is the Kambata-Tambaro zone that's well known to have one of the best educated people in Ethiopia. It's also a home of Ajora falls and omo river.
Why did it end? Our Saturday morning begins with Yves’ video👍 Thanks you for such an amazing experience you are taking us with you.
I'm interested to see what's left on the editing floor. Fascinating travels. Stay safe and thank you.🇪🇹
YOU ARE SHOWING FOR THE WORLD IMPOSSIBLE THING POSSIBLE I AM ADDICTED TO YOU AND YOUR WORK JOURNY EVRY THING YOU DO!!
Am obsessed with your videos I was checking every day if you post a new video I am happy and worried for you at the same time lol it’s exciting and scary ❤❤❤❤❤
Great video. Made me miss Ethiopia.
Incredible how you can easily tell contrasting calmness and aggressiveness as you cross from one zone to another. We Ethiopians cannot discover such distinctive behavioral paradigm shift when we travel as we are not farangies, but an open minded sociologist could make an interesting research findings if he/she takes the time to understand why such changes.
These videos are priceless!
Its nice to know u watch Harold and Bald, i hope u grow as they have
Yves, you are one brave man. 👍😃

You're a brave man. This contrast you describe - of the very good things, good experiences, and the very bad ones is familiar. I gave it a name for it when I came to Ethiopia: "Beauty AND the Beast."

Hey Yves,
Glad you gave Mr Bald and Haraldo props. You definitely have the feel. The intro and outro is where I see it most. Somehow I came across your videos a few weeks ago and I am instantly hooked! They have all been fascinating and today’s video is no exception. Keep it up and keep opening that door to us.
Please google Bald and bankrupt dossier. Doesn't look like a role model to me.
The trip eventially turned into a trick or treat adventure 😆😆😆😆 Buddy ..enjoy !

Hello world. Im looking Harald and Mr. Bald. Thumb up! Have a beautiful day. Bye. Rudi from Slovenija - Europe.
It has to be very tiring not just biking this much but smiling to 1000s of kids daily who are running after you and be aware of your surroundings, not many people would be able to do this. But I guess it is overall rewarding for you and for us viewers for sure! 😊
This Wonderfull Brother Is Fantastic and i am obsesed to see him repeatedly
Courage mon poulet ;) t’es trop fort 🦾❤️
love your video yve
Je ne sais pas encore pourquoi mais spontanement via cette video je viens de prendre la decision de partir quelque mois vers le "Sud". Merci pour ca !
extremely interesting
YVes, the word "Faranji" came from a German tribe called Franken in the state of Bavaria. During the crusade battle, the most brave and known people who took part in that crusade battle with Muslims were Franken people from Kingdom of Bavaria. When they reached in Middle East, people asked them where they came from. The Frankens aswered that they came from Franken, then the Arabs called them as "Faranji" and then the word spread to the East Africa.
And also don't forget that the word France itself came from the same Franken when the Frankens conquered the territory of France of today.
I am from Franken, Bavaria, thank you for explaining. I did not know that.
In the morning where people were not begging money, you can see that the infrastructure is much better than in the afternoon region.
