I was 2nd Baritone when our little village band played this as a contest piece in Norwich about 25 years ago! I think we came 4th out of 5, but was a fun piece to tackle!
As a trombonist I have never loved and hated a piece this much at the same time. Love the first movement, hate the second movement, third movement isn’t bad
I played this piece with the band that I'm currently in,and travelled up to Torquay to play it and we one our section!Fantastic piece though, but not very easy to play with the tempo 😂
I played this in Wind Symphony in college, performed May 1 2011. About 7 hours later the world learned that Osama bin Laden was dead. Best coincidence ever.
if sparke was a shit enough orchestrator to write the bassoon solo in the wrong octave the bassoonist themself can at least be proud of it. i play the solo at about f and take the E at 7:27 up an octave because 1. it's beautiful 2. the voice leading makes more sense
Great👍 Who is playing this?

1st bassoon kicks ass. remember the countless nights of my face being numb trying to perfect my solo in the second movement.

I think this song is the greatest ever! I love the original all brass version too.
Nils Waage but Bookmarks from Japan by Julie Giroux.
Wish I could, man. But this was the greatest one in my career.
We played this piece my freshman year in high school - but boy, we didn't play it this fast.
