    This is super cool, and very clever use of the tool to actuate the pneumatic chuck

      Cheers, that was a pretty fun hack to come up with. It could have been done with a M code and extra relay but this was more within my skillset.

    As the start of the threads are chipping due to how thin they are, you may want to consider adding a higbee cut to the end.

    I use this method to make bolts out of titanium on my mill. The gas bar pushed is great. Well done.

      What kind of tooling do you use to machine that titanium bolt I've never had very good luck machining titanium.

      @@thomasbarlow4223 I’m working on a 4 axis cnc mill running flood coolant and tialn coated tooling. I don’t imagine a wood router could pull it off.

      @@lukaslarson I don't think the guy meant he's trying to cut titanium with a wood router. Lol.

    Hi Like Butter. This is an awesome work with a 3 axis CNC. Is there a way you can share how to do the movement of rounding and going down in th Z axis? It would really help me with a project i have with my own CNC. Thanks in advance!

      Replace a plastic part with a wooden one for the sake of the environment or cost maybe. What are the options? Choose your material from wood, plastic or metal then find the most cost effective manufacturing method. If you have a CNC router then the question becomes "is it best to use the router or should we buy a new machine"? This decision will be based on various factors such as how many you need, how accurate they need to be, do you need the router for something else or will it be standing idle if it is not doing this and do you have space for a new machine. This may be just prototyping where a few are needed before you commit to a final design and manufacturing method. Using a general purpose machine for a few prototypes makes good sense. With modern CAD/CAM/CNC it is easy to design the part with CAD, produce the code for the router in CAM and then make the part in the CNC router. I could do this in my home workshop but I wouldn't want to make thousands.

      @@like.butter I think I missed out that the process of thread milling also gives the opportunity to make the thread slightly larger or smaller than standard to make the parts fit together tighter or looser as required. To do this with standard style taps is not easy. You can change the fit with split dies for an external thread but standard taps are usually one size. Serial tap sets give some opportunity to make the thread smaller but not larger.

    • @like.butter
      @like.butter  2 роки тому +1

      Indeed it does. We've spent a great deal of time refining the fitment of the threaded components.
