  • Is your engine OK? Just because your engine runs doesn't mean there is not an underlying wear problem that could cause a catastrophic engine failure. Fortunately, used oil analysis can detect a wear problem before it becomes catastrophic. This incredibly powerful tool allows you to take preventative maintenance steps, which prevents catastrophic engine failure!
    Used oil analysis is simple, easy to do and cost effective! To get started, visit www.SPEEDiagnostix.com

    Very well worth it. Much faster and better results than Blackstone. Just ordered another kit so I can get a trend analysis going. Thanks Lake!

    I know that additional oil additives are not recommended for use, but it would be interesting to hear an analysis of popular oil additives and how they would affect the existing additive sets in the oil

      I think the tricky part to that is while an additive might make one oil better it could also make another oil worse.

    • @EJProMods

      @@bcbloc02 well the interesting part is what is actually in the aftermarket additives and how they affect regular oil with a standard additive package. For example brak-in oil additive what it is made from and how it reacts with standard additive package oils.

      I was thinking the same thing, i have been using the Lucas Low Viscosity Oil Stabilizer with my oil changes and always wondered since my standard motor oil already has an additive package is this a waste of money or a great insurance policy?

    Hello Mr Geek. Thank you so much for your help and service.
    I just wanted to ask you or other video-watchers if they were familiar with the Ram 5.7 hemi lifter and cam failures, and if there is a recommend oil to combat these failures.
    I have read Penzoil Ultra Platinum is good, but also am wondering if Redline 5w30 is a better choice due to the additive package.
    Also, will your oil analysis show evidence of lifter wear and impending failure?
    I don't know if the lifters have a specific metal composition that would be evident in oil.
    Thanks so much for all to do. They are very interesting videos you make.

    Been sending oil to black stone lab. My mothers van had 1400 mi on oil and sat 20 months . Sent off a sample . Black stone said it was still good .
    Here in the SoCal desert not much humidity. I know several guys here that go by mileage and not time . Is that a good idea ??? Folks cars sitting a lot now and low miles on annual oil change . I can’t-get used to it . 🤔

    @SPEEDiagnostix. Can an oil analysis be reliably done on an engine with a shared crankcase / transmission oil system incorporating a wet clutch, provided one knows the oil type being used?

    • @themotoroilgeek
      @themotoroilgeek  Рік тому +1

      It can be done via trend analysis. A single sample will have too much “noise” from the clutch/transmission, but the trend analysis over time allows you to filter out the noise and see changes in engine wear.

    Can SPEEDiagnostix virgin oil analysis tell whether the molybdenum in the oil is MoS2 (Molybdenum Disulfide) or MoDTC (Molybdenum Dialkyldithiocarbamate)?

    • @themotoroilgeek

    Its approximately twice of the price of Blackstone. Can you elaborate on what is extra that you provide vs them?

    • @themotoroilgeek
      @themotoroilgeek  11 місяців тому +12

      Yes, there are three areas of distinction between SPEEDiagnostix and Blackstone.
      The first is the actual testing. Fuel dilution is the most common cause of increased wear, so this is arguably the most important of the tests run on a used oil sample. While Blackstone uses flash point to infer fuel dilution, we use the more accurate Gas Chromatography method, which counts the number of fuel molecules in the oil.
      Beyond the fuel dilution testing, we also use FTIR for Water, Glycol, Oxidation and Nitration. The FTIR test method is preferred by both Cummins and GM to the older TBN method. In fact, we utilize the same RDE wear metal test method as the F1 teams use at the racetrack, which provides nearly 50% better than the ICP metal detection that Blackstone uses.
      SPEEDiagnostix also delivers results with 5 to 6 business days from the time you drop the sample in the mail. Part of that premium price includes priority processing.
      Finally, you get my personal review of the test results and technical support. I send every report to our customers and I’m there to provide guidance and technical support.
      Quite frankly, that’s the extra value. Nothing against the analysts at Blackstone or any other lab, but they are not Certified Lubrication Specialists, nor have they formulated and developed championship winning oils. My experience and expertise is unique, and I provide that to our customers as part of the SPEEDiagnostix service.

    If it is “catastrophic”, it WILL NOT wait 6000-10000 miles until next oil change!

    • @themotoroilgeek
      @themotoroilgeek  11 місяців тому

      Most failures that end in a catastrophic manner, begin with small traces of wear until it accelerates towards the ultimate failure of the part. There are exceptions to this, such as a broken valve spring. However, it does hold true for most wear related failures, so by utilizing used oil analysis on a regular basis, the wear problem is spotted early on and the oil change interval would be shortened to monitor the situation more closely.
