I'm 23 and been into the Pistols since my Mum put me onto them as a kid. John was always my guy but discovering Jonesy's Jukebox has given me a new found appreciation for Steve. And just how great his guitar playing was. What a guy. Keep up the great interviews Jonesy!
When Zappa was asked which guitarists he liked he specifically mentioned Brian May... So Vai's mentor himself definitely gave him the credit he deserved while he didn't do that kind of thing very often... He wasn't easily impressed so it's a huge compliment
Vai oozes class. A genuinely nice man. He signed for me when touring with Roth on the Skyscraper Tour. Steve was very accommodating to a few of us wanting his signature. Roth blanked us completely.
King of shred meets king of punk....metal & punk, 2 of the greatest musical developments of western music, & two of the greatest exponents in one interview / jam. CHEERS FROM AUSTRALIA!
I have to say my generation of guitar heroes has been so helpful. They of course have internet now. Paul Gilbert showed us all so many techniques and tricks. So giving. All in hopes that the next generation will do something amazing. No ego. Promoting their instrument. The guitar.
Can't really believe this. Two of my favorite guitarists, both great guys, both chill, both talking about stuff that fascinates me and they keep mentioning my favorite bands. All for free on the internet. So glad I subscribed to this channel, I didn't even know it existed until a few weeks ago.
Damn Vai !!! I am 38 and have been a fan since 1991 at the age of 11 this is what I want to hear you do that was amazing and real reminds of the older albums thank you!
No shit, that PiL album was awesome. Rise, ease, fishing, FFF, etc. ’’Album’’ (aka ’’Compact Disk’’, ’’Cassette’’). Vai’s contributions were tremendous.
Mr. Vai is the most influential part of my guitar playing! Whenever I get into one of those frustrating ruts of playing guitar, I just listen to some Vai and all is right with the musical world!!! Very inspirational!!!
Damn!! I was hoping they filmed it! But I'll buy the live album for sure. Hopefully he does it again, please take it!! And have those guys again fan of all
Absolutely loving this. And Jonesy doesn't rate himself by the way he talks ,but as a guitarist who started gigging in the 70's I stole a lot of style from him.
Nice words about Brian May but I think it falls short. Besides being a great musician, song writer, guitar player, and guitar builder, he is an astrophysicist, animal rights activist, and innovative photographer using stereoscopy. And probably a few other things. I have the feeling that a few hundred years from now (assuming we are around) he will be remembered similarly to how we remember Da Vinci today.
hahaha brilliant, you'd struggle to get two guitarists more different for background, style, personality etc etc but they are so similar - they are who they are and they do their own thing and stick to it. where else can you get vai wailing all over jonesey's acoustic? i shouldn't work but it did!
well he did a whole album... in fact thats what its called, ’’Album’’, and yea its GREAT. But did you hear the jam he did with Jonesy at the end on this? Pretty great as well!
Never been interested in Mr Vai's music but he seems to be an EXTREMELY nice bloke! (and I'm certainly not trying to downplay his talent as he is just amazingly gifted...)
Listening to SV since Flex-able and the man never ceases to disappoint. Still can make the hairs stand up with his playing. The jam sounded like an instrumental of Hard Sun by Gordon Peterson later covered by Eddie Vedder for Into the Wild soundtrack.
I would put Brian May in the same league as Mick Ronson for not just his playing style but for the contribution the lead playing had to the melody of the songs.
Vai instantly jumped in with a fitting and smooth lead run like they'd been playing together for decades. Fucking amazing.
The pace that Steve seemingly spits out musical ideas while improvising is such a testament to how great a musician he is.
Jones is a solid guitar player. He plays rock music. He can play rhythm and lead. Great sense of melody. He has a good tone and time. Good guitarist.
Steve talks about other guitarist with so much respect meanwhile he's like one of the baddest guitarist on the planet.
I met Steve Vai at a record store appearance in his hometown when Passion and Warfare came out. What a humble and gracious human being.
"Album" 1986 ( PIL) is one of the greatest albums of all time
Especially the track dedicated to Martin Atkins
"Ease" from "the Album" is one of Vai's best ever solos.
Remember when talk radio made you think 'r u crazy?'
I can't get enough of this stuff.
What a fucking jam! Holy shit I can’t believe how good these polar opposite guitarists sound together. One for the ages
Vai is a nice guy
He sure is
Epic. Steve is such a nice fella.
I'm 23 and been into the Pistols since my Mum put me onto them as a kid. John was always my guy but discovering Jonesy's Jukebox has given me a new found appreciation for Steve. And just how great his guitar playing was. What a guy. Keep up the great interviews Jonesy!
Check out the album Jonsey did with Iggy Pop - great record!
When Zappa was asked which guitarists he liked he specifically mentioned Brian May... So Vai's mentor himself definitely gave him the credit he deserved while he didn't do that kind of thing very often... He wasn't easily impressed so it's a huge compliment
Two guitar legends
No matter how many times I watch Steve play I'm amazed.
What lovely comments about Brian May! Steve and Steve are great! I am looking for tickets to Generation Axe right now!
my 2 favourite guitarists
Vai oozes class. A genuinely nice man. He signed for me when touring with Roth on the Skyscraper Tour. Steve was very accommodating to a few of us wanting his signature. Roth blanked us completely.
Steve Vai is a treasure. what a humble, loveable guy. Completely genuine.
Best clip I've seen months, great interview and a great jam.
yes!!!

Steve Vai is so humble.
What a treat. Everybody loves Jonesie. "This is a song about peace, love and good happiness stuff..."
And a first class thief 😂
Loving the two Steve’s
22 minutes in and Jonesy's still holding his guitar upright on his leg...haha
How can a virtuoso like Steve Vai not know of or of heard Jeff Becks 'Hi Ho Silver lining' ...I am stunned!
Two class acts merge on the flow of two Guitars, another great interview ,thank-you both, !!
Can't really believe this. Two of my favorite guitarists, both great guys, both chill, both talking about stuff that fascinates me and they keep mentioning my favorite bands. All for free on the internet. So glad I subscribed to this channel, I didn't even know it existed until a few weeks ago.
As always a great interview - even though I have never met Steve Vai I feel like I know him - he is such a down to earth grounded guy -what a player
Damn Vai !!! I am 38 and have been a fan since 1991 at the age of 11 this is what I want to hear you do that was amazing and real reminds of the older albums thank you!
Thank you!!
Amazing interview! So informative and down to earth.
Yes please, bring on Steve Lukather on the show.
Yes, please Johnny. Try to get him in the show
Steve vai guitar playing manages out world phrasing, feel and speed like nobody else. A true virtuoso
Steve sounds like 1990 Steve Vai very very focused & precise!!!! I hope he puts out another record similar to Passion & Warfare!!!!
No one will ever manage that , love Steve and all his fans
Christopher Grant story of light was really good
Beautiful!
Vai is so Sic!! Listen to that Beautiful Jam! Damn....
His work on PIL Album is absolutely awesome.
No shit, that PiL album was awesome. Rise, ease, fishing, FFF, etc. ’’Album’’ (aka ’’Compact Disk’’, ’’Cassette’’). Vai’s contributions were tremendous.
The is great thanks for sharing with us.

Fuckin Vai, he gets that from the few chords Jonesy's playing. Amazing.
Was hoping they'd talk about PiL
Great interview
steve vai is a really nice guy!
My 2 favourite Steve's. It doesn't get any better than this. Vai on Pil Album is some of the best stuff he's ever done.
I love this one
I went to Generation Axe in Oakland the first time around it was epic. One of the best live shows I've seen.
He is a nice guy, amazing guitarist, and he knows guitar playing more than just the technique. He knows about the feel of it.
Fukin lovely, cosmic jam
Mr. Vai is the most influential part of my guitar playing! Whenever I get into one of those frustrating ruts of playing guitar, I just listen to some Vai and all is right with the musical world!!! Very inspirational!!!
superb
The Master at work !

Steve is my favorite guitarist. Technique meets feeling.
Two great guitarists and the best interviewer /host there is... Mr Jones
Excellent
Awesome
Steve Via is the best guitarist in my opinion.
All down to personal taste.
Damn!! I was hoping they filmed it! But I'll buy the live album for sure. Hopefully he does it again, please take it!! And have those guys again fan of all
There are vids on YT.
the jam. yes.
Album as it was called was really great. John Lydon did some of his best vocals on that one, great delivery.
That & Happy with John McGeoch
Vai has a great radio voice.
Most people liked ralph from crossroads, but when i 1st saw vai in crossroads i was sold!!!!!
Demaisss !!!! thanks
This's live, ya know ..." Wow, Jonesy takes you everywhere.
Keep up the good work . nice
This is Great
Extraordinary
Vai IS the Animal. Holy shit, that improv was so melodic.
Absolutely loving this. And Jonesy doesn't rate himself by the way he talks ,but as a guitarist who started gigging in the 70's I stole a lot of style from him.
His riffing in 'Bodies' made Wishing Well sound like a nursery rhyme
Nice words about Brian May but I think it falls short. what a nice guy Vai is and a complete monster on the Guitar I first heard him on the Roth stuff and he was and is amazing still
Steve is always such a cool dude always smiling \m/
The song Vai did with PIL is the best thing he ever did.
well he did a whole album... in fact thats what its called, ’’Album’’, and yea its GREAT. But did you hear the jam he did with Jonesy at the end on this? Pretty great as well!
Nice things Vai saying of Edward.
excellent
Never been interested in Mr Vai's music but he seems to be an EXTREMELY nice bloke! (and I'm certainly not trying to downplay his talent as he is just amazingly gifted...)
so humble and so inspirational. Love Vai and Ibanez - the PIL/Lydon EP was insanely great
Listening to SV since Flex-able and the man never ceases to disappoint. Still can make the hairs stand up with his playing.
The jam sounded like an instrumental of Hard Sun by Gordon Peterson later covered by Eddie Vedder for Into the Wild soundtrack.
Jonesy's don't forget to take a look at some future talent on our channel and let me know what you think.
Steve Vai is a Guitar God & A Great Human Being 👍
I would put Brian May in the same league as Mick Ronson for not just his playing style but for the contribution the lead playing had to the melody of the songs.
Vai's voice sounds like George Clooney
