I want gh6 . It has no crop and it can do 5.7 k open gate. Sony is one class under and i dont care about the better af.

After much oscillation between these two, I finally got GH6 yesterday. I don't care much about autofocus (mostly use manual lenses) but IBIS... come on that's a monster on GH6. I fell in love with it in less than a minute. GH6 has so many advantages that if better autofocus is not a dealbreaker the choice should be obvious. An yes, the lack of viewfinder (among many other "lacks") is a big no no.
Nice comparison video. I have come into making a decision between the two. And I went for FX30 and pre-ordered it already, since I am a Sony APSC camera user and invested on the lenses. Excellent Auto focus is a must have for me as well...
For those who want to buy a camera, the review was excellent because it showed the pros and cons of the two cameras. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Each time I think I've settled on a camera, I see another that makes the decision very difficult! ^_^
I have the Lumix GH6. $2800 for the lens in the box plus the body. A lot of features on the camera. I use it to make workout videos when I do make them. I would make travel videos. Maybe this summer, I can go to NYC and maybe Toronto.
You are the first on youtube to seriously comparing these 2 cameras. I am a Sony A7RIV user looking for a Cine cam, to use the Vazen 28mm , so i am so torn between GH6 and FX30.
The Vazen 28 is a lens I've been eyeing for some time :). The thing with sony is that the lack of taller aspect ratios, really hurts for anamorphic. Open gate m43 shares nearly the same height as APS-C 16:9, however, there's more pixels in the right places, because 16:9 with a 1.8 squeeze...... that's 3.2:1 aspect ratio, too extreme. 2.3:1 is already extreme and that's what you get from an open gate m43 sensor. Trouble is that framing in camera is going to be a problem. Anyhow, thanks for watching!
@@CharlieVN It is the final picture thats count, if FX3/FX30 crop mode is still bigger than m43 open gate, and most of all, yields better final picture (with crop out vignetting in post), So open gate does not bother me much. However, 1. Vazen 28mm is not available in E mount, and my all M43 to E mount adaptors has not been reliable. 2. GH6 has better IBIS 3. has direct SSD storage option. ....... Sigh... well, GH6 is cheaper than many lens, may be i should just get one for the single purpose of using Vazen 28mm , is worth it. This show how important third party lens is , in the support of a mount, Canon RF is suicidal .
Sony FF has spoiled us all because you barely need to light. With the BM6k and GH6 you just can’t do that. That makes the FX30 very interesting because if you treat it like an Fx3/A7siii it will hold it’s ground.. but if you treat it like if in was any other cinema camera it totally blows out the the water the GH6 and BM6K in my opinion. It’s a bold statement but totally true. Exposure index really helps pre previewing the exact look you want. The new Sony colors are crazy wide. You can mount it but you don’t have to. There are tons to of wide angle cheap fast wide angle lenses, and you can pair it with anything from a zv10 to a Venice II. Same lenses, same profiles, similar output. How crazy is that?
I have a very personal opinion. I've never seen the sensor size decisive in choosing APSC over Micro4/3, very similar. But M4/3 gives real advantages on even very small lenses, even with adapters (canon and cinema lenses) and advantages on telephoto lenses. For me the choice will always be either micro 4/3 or Full Frame. Rather than a FX30 I'd take a Sony A7IV or a Panasonic S5. Gh6 has its place in the world.
Fx30 is better for both AF and video noise. In the video it is essential.
@@fabimesizae Video noise between Apsc and M4/3 is negligible, with both you work well at 6400 iso and you can push yourself to 12800 with a denoise in post production, if you have to work in low light Full Frame wins hands down on both. The autofocus on GH6 is much improved compared to GH5 and is usable, in any case in professional use the focus can sometimes be wrong even Sony and it is necessary to use manual focus. In the video, the stabilization of the GH6 is much more important as the gimbal is not always comfortable (I am very sensitive to this, I hate shaky images).
@@nilodallaverita6310 When you produce thousands of clips it is unthinkable to use denoise in post production. AF is essential when shooting wedding videos. The stabilization of the sensor is absolutely not comparable with the Gimbal, they are two different things. You are talking like a newbye.

I am not sure why and how but Panasonic always have a more filmic and organic feeling to the footage while Sony kinda lean towards video-ish looking.
Not to bash, just different choice for what different target demographic but thanks for the comparison!
I guess it depends on the edit, this talking head video was filmed on the GH6!!!
More focused on film and cinema, Sony is more for photography or product brands

I have a GH3, G85, GH6 .... though of switching to the FX30 but "NO VIEWFINDER" was the deal breaker.
I think this the first video that understands that the FX30 is a Sony version of the GH6 Blackmagic 6K
Panasonic has their heart in the right place, but if they dont have their autofocus figured out then they'll always be second if not third best to Sony & Canon 🤞

No sé qué pensar. Casi que mi respuesta para lo que hago hoy es sony a7iii; pero con estas dos bestias casi al mismo precio en mi país es muy tentador. El problema es que ya tengo una GH5 y cubre casi todas mis necesidades de video, estoy necesitando una buena cámara de fotos... Gracias por toda la comparación.
Sony for 3rd party and oftimes more lightweight options, autofocus because of phase detection plus who knows maybe with firmware update may bring the new A7RV's facial recognition AI, plus it has focus breathing control with their some of their lenses and finally what I've been saying is no more same old boring film looks, like Panasonic and the rest of them because you canmix and match old vintage lenses with their luts, your own, or some UA-cam influencer lol. I don't see how the gh5 could ever be a b cam to the gh6. Colors are so different. I think the gh6 and s5 (ii)would be a pretty good match.
It’s exactly the decision i do have to make. So with your video, it will be reduced to two points?
1) autofocus = FX30
2) open gate = GH6
Anything else both will fit into my workflow.
Because as a GH user since GH2, and learns at TV decades ago, i always focused manually. Only to follow people on a gimbal i wish good autofocus.
Since GH4 I shoot in UHD and render at 1080. O I do have the freedom to make creative decisions in the post. I love this and will change my rendering to 4k.
And even the FX 30 looks so impressive I tend to GH6 for now.

the AF of the GH6 is a massive improvement over the GH4 days, it's about as good as the Sony A7rii, it has more wizardry than the A7's in general, but does struggle occasionally when it shouldnt. Manual focus is still a thing that I use a lot despite having more sony cameras.
Autofocus also depends a lot on the lens used and I can say that the Leica 12-60mm F2.8-4 mounted on the G9 already has an excellent autofocus that I don't have on other lenses. G9 and 12-60mm Leica on gimbal I find myself very well. With GH6 everything should be better.

And the Lumix 12-35 Vario X with a constant 2.8 Aperture, that lens is awesome!
Panny mentioned PDAF coming in future releases. If the GH6 had reliable AF, i wouldn't have bought two Sonys. Low light aside, Panny video looks so much better, not to mention the incredible IBIS and easy menus, and better sound !
Thanks for sharing, didnt know that about panny boy, it would be tough to leave sony simply because the idea that a small camera can happen and the 20-40, 35-150 did happen, heck, even the 16-35pz, all so amazing, and small. The panny xlr and audio in general with the separate levels for 3.5 vs scratch, just excellent stuff. Love using the camera, just dont love how big it has to be with the 10-25 , most often used (although I do have the 12-35 f2.8 on a second camera and that works out ok).
@@CharlieVN The GH6 is quite hefty too, but Panny software is just so much nicer to use, even compared to A7IV. I sold my G9 today but I'm nostalgic ;) Yes Sony lenses are shrinking, and that's awesome.
In all fairness, while the GH6 AF is not as good as Sony or Cannon, it’s reasonably reliable. Would I like better? Sure but I can make this work. And the ergonomics and tool sets in it are just so much nicer than Sony. I still have a bad taste from the 6000 series.
@@lanceevans1689 I have A7IV and ZV-E10, the latter still has the 6000 sensor and menu system, definitely not the best. But the ease of use comes from the ease of getting a video started. AFC on, auto ISO and AWB, press record and forget the cameras. If the footage is not usable, it's 100% user error. I could make the G9 AF work, mostly, but I enjoy being free of that task.
@@StirfriedGerman I can't deny that level of hands free perfection is VERY appealing. But let's not pretend that the GH6 is all that far behind in any of the categories. And there are the areas it is better. The most important of which is the image. The Sony images are stellar, but almost to a fault. So crisp that they tend to have a video quality. Whereas the GH6 tends to be less sharp, but more (forgive me!)..."cinematic". I think it's safe to say that the new GH6 color science is starting to look very much like Canon's. They are both reminiscent of Kodachrome.

I wanted to love that feature, but the lack of 4K 120, a spotty connection/disconnects, the formatting that it needs, battery life hit, I ended up just using CFExpress
