Homefree, Pentatonix and VoicePlay are the trifecta of acapella groups. Very different but each are Fire in their own right These guys are all friends and they appear in each other’s videos
respectful question here. How exactly are they a trifecta? And i'm not talking about their level of quality since each preference is valid. But how exactly are mainstream worldwide known singers who compete on the billboard and stuff a trifecta with 2 medium to minor groups in terms of recognition? That's like saying the The trifecta of Rihanna and 2 minor (but probably as good) artists. i always see that and it doesn't make sense to me.
You can find the type of music by Pentatonix that you will like. Their first Grammy was Daft Punk which is electro-dance. The second Grammy was Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy, an instrumental. The third was Jolene with Dolly Parton. If this isn’t their fourth, I’ll be shocked. Try their version of Bohemian Rhapsody. Brian May (guitarist of Queen) posted a link of it in his social media. They got their start on Season 3 of the Sing-Off. Home Free won Season 4. Home Free doing Ring of Fire ft Avi Kaplan is fabulous.
@@cherylhowe1541 ... well they know when they have to release to make it on time to be considered, so there's that. There's a way to work around the cut-off date, but I don't know how easy or likely it is to make that happen, except that it's not easy
Pentatonix's 12 Days of Christmas is pretty much a portfolio of genres they can do. Check out their tracks from their original albums also. Love Again is one of my favourite early originals by them, but their latest original album is also pure fire!
Here is a link to the Celine/Andrea version if you want to check it out.....I quite often listen to the original before listening to the cover for the first time so that I can get an honest comparison.... ua-cam.com/video/qt_OkgSOrkU/v-deo.html
The cover of John Lennon's Imagine will blow you away. For Christmas my favorite is O Come All Ye Faithful. It's an amazing, upbeat, joyful performance.
The reason you couldn't find a place to stop is because every moment is filled with sound. They are the background instruments as well as covering the vocals. Being new, you won't be able to move past Mitch for a while, but they are five individually talented individuals who know each other so well, they instinctively blend and complement each other. The others won't mind you mentioning Mitch, they all acknowledge him as the best singer and they are genuinely pleased for each other's success.
There is one unsung person associated with Pentatonix. Ben Bram is their arranger. "Unsung" because he doesn't sing. He lays out the parts and was with the group when they won their Grammy Awards. In a sense, though he is unsung, you hear him in arrangements like this one. And yes, Matt sings bass. Mitch is counter-tenor (the rarest male voice range). Kirsten is a mezzo-soprano so she isn't the highest female range. Scott sings baritone but has an unusually wide range so can fill in with either mid-bass or low tenor. Kevin, when he isn't beat-boxing, sings tenor.
Their "Evolution of..." videos are extraordinary, especially as they are all in one take. Mitch has a truly unique sound. He and Scott formed their own group, Superfruit, that features (mostly) the two of them and their own original album, Future Friends. They haven't posted anything in awhile under Superfruit, but their song, Guy.exe, has recently been trending on TikTok.
You have to actively remember sometimes that this is 𝘢 𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘢, and that wonderful drumbeat you hear is coming from Kevin's mouth. It sounds so real I just forget to notice sometimes.
I've been calling this: Pentatonix all grown up. The level they have reached is mind melting and there appears to be no limit. This performance is otherworldly.
Yay!!! You got it!! (names) Pentatonix will get you every time!!!! If you'd like more upbeat try "New Rules/Are You That Somebody". It's a mash-up...and nobody does mash-ups better than Pentatonix!
This song was written by David Foster and Carole Bayer Sager. It was originally performed by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli. Hence the second language you hear is Italian. Scott is singing Andrea Bocelli's part and Mitch is singing Celine Dion's part. Please listen to their first Grammy win Daft Punk. Totally different vibe. You're doing GREAT!!!!! :)
Great reaction!!!! My opinion is this is their next Grammy winner. They are so unbelievably good. My favorite of their's to date...well besides Hallelujah and a few others. LOL 😆 🤣 Now you need to do Daft Punk and 90's Dance Medley. One has Avi and the other has Matt. You already saw Avi with Home Free in the Ring of Fire video you reacted to after the Man of Constant Sorrow one. I am currently off work because of a broken leg so I'm not financially able to help you right now. Sorry... Sending you love from Texas!

Mitch Scott & Kirsten were classmates & original members.& all 3 were 19 when they won the sing off. They found Kevin & Avi becuz the competition needed @ least 5 members .
I think the bass sound you are noticing from Kevin is not just a difference in how he can produce a specific sound tailored to the piece they are performing, but the fact that PTX uses more vocal engineering than many other a capella groups, especially in their more recent recordings.
Just love this, its beautiful. Great reaction! For something a little different where Avi and Kevin are beasts and you get the gorgeous voice of Mitch I'd recommend their original song Love Again. You won't regret it!
Mitch, Kirsten, and Scott knew each other from high school (maybe even before that). They always sang and hanged out together. You’re bang on with their names. Scott’s baritone, Kirsty’s mezzo soprano and Mitch is countertenor! Want some fun? Watch Superfruit frozen medley. Mitch and Scott ft Kirsty! Hilarious but keep going to the outtakes!! Please react to their Stevie Wonder cover, “I just called to say I love you”! It’s a beautiful cover. OMG! There are so many to recommend! Imagine, Bohemian Rhapsody, Daft Punk, and on and on and on... They’re amazing 🏴🇬🇧
Another fantastic reaction! Your Mitch slaps are the best! What a creative idea. He gives a mind blowing performance in Bohemian Rhapsody. I can’t wait to see your face on that one!! I love the way you’ve embraced the rabbit hole that is Pentatonix! They’re on TikTok also. Both Scott and Kevin have active individual accounts there. You are my favorite UA-camr!
Hi Saucy Dad..just wanted to let you know PTX announced on their Facebook page..they were chosen to receive a Hollywood Walk of Fame star..sweet video of each member thanking Hollywood Commerce and fans..Great News!!..😊😊😊
This song is a cover of Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion. Matt joined the group in 2017. Kevin has been with them since they formed Pentatonix in 2011 (when he joined them he was a recently graduated pre-med student at Yale University, is an accomplished cello player, and speaks fluent Mandarin for starters) Scott, Kirstin, and Mitch have been friends since childhood (ages 8 and 10) and performed in choir and theater together through high school.. that's why their harmonies are so effortless and pure. They all love each other like siblings. Matt is the baby of the group and was a Pentaholic before he joined.. a dream come true for him. Since you like rap, you'd like one of their old covers of CAN'T HOLD US (Macklemore & Ryan Lewis cover)
I have probably listened to this version by PTX about a hundred times since it was released. The more and more I listen, the more and more I hear/concentrate on each member individually. ALL are beyond awesome, but I think, despite the lovely and angelic vocals by Scott, Kirstin and Mitch, Matt is doing so much "beyond" the norm in this one. Absolutely stunning. Absolutely beautiful. I will literally be crying on Grammy Awards night when it comes around. There is going to be some stiff competition this year, but I will scream and cry in happiness if PTX gets another one for this one, and sobbing in sadness if they dont.
The timing’s off for this release. It was released too late to be considered for this year’s Grammys, but too early to be a serious contender for next year.
Avi was in ring of fire that you heard. That ending makes my spine tingle, plus i like Kevin and his bass drums near the end. The ending sounds like that big surround sound, you get in a movie theater
Some background… Mitch & Scott have known each other since they were kids singing in local musical theater productions in Texas. Fate then took total control & added Kirstie to the mix where they were all in the same high school singing together in the school show choir (imagine being that choir director!)
Your reactions and facial expressions to the PTX vocal mastery were superb! This is a beautiful video. Beautiful rendition of this song - The Prayer. Giving a message of hope for us all. Pentatonix never disappoints. All five of them are masters of their craft - individually and collectively. For this song there was skillful and perfect choice and placing of each member in the arrangement. Mitch at the start and throughout owned this song with conviction, vocal clarity, the notes he hits and holds, his runs, his vibratos, his timing and his precision. Scott with his operatic presentation strong and convincing in linguistic detail. Kirstin with her belting power notes. Matt on the consistent bass undertone. Kevin on the strong and well-timed vocal percussion. The rich vocals, the solos, the duets, the tones, the call and response, the layering, the harmonizing, the PTX signature wall of sound, building to the crescendo and then the clarity of Mitch piercing through again. Superb performance by Pentatonix. A Capella at its very best. They deserve a few Grammys for this including with master arranger Ben Bram. The music videos and recorded versions are superb but their live performances are just as good and sometimes better. Check out The Prayer live on iHeartRadio or from a fan video from the Evergreen Tour where Mitch actually adds in more vibratos and flourishes. Suggestions for comparisons of recorded music videos vs live performances -- "Can't Sleep Love" (PTX original) (the live is in Popspring 2016 ua-cam.com/video/cLD2_WwocCc/v-deo.html ); Attention and Havana (the live is at the end of the New York Times 2018 Interview ua-cam.com/video/QODx961CLe8/v-deo.html); I Saw Three Ships (live on BYUTV.com Christmas Under the Stars or IHeartRadio Christmas Special); Aha (the live is from Singapore Vista fan video); Daft Punk (their first Grammy and the live looks like them standing around in somebody's living room singing off the cuff and with no microphones even ua-cam.com/video/tw4YCsHXKgI/v-deo.html); and Hallelujah (live sounds exactly the same but you get to see different angles of who is singing what ua-cam.com/video/haFHrfmfHbc/v-deo.html). You already did Sound of Silence live but that one had drums so Kevin's beatboxing did not shine at the end, so you should also watch the recorded version of that one. Then for fun do their cover of Gold by Kiara (listen to the original by Kiara which is electronically mixed then listen to A Capella PTX) and Bohemian Rhapsody and Can You Feel the Love Tonight. PTX all have various musical instruments sitting on their vocal chords - you will see - drums, cymbals, bagpipes, horn, bells, electrical guitar....... Masters of their craft. Enjoy the journey. Here for the ride. I hope you read this !!
I’m an original Pentaholic. Which means I saw their very first performance, fell in love, and never looked back. I saw them win “The Sing Off” and the next year watched “HomeFree” They are both awesome but I was in a country band for 3 years and am sick to death of it. 😌 I must admit that I’m way more a Pentatonix fan. I LOVE watching a new fan discover them. We all come for the Mitch slap and you certainly didn’t disappoint. When it comes to Mitch, if I was 30 years younger, and he wasn’t gay….🤪
It is soooo amazing! Everything about PTX is super amazing. They are ... simply amazing. And love your reactions. You know, Kevin is also an amazing singer (Imagine, Amazing Grace, Mary did you know ...). You can also hear Matt's amazing vocal in You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch.
There are Penta-Fries who enjoy both groups. Home Free takes care of country vibes, and Pentatonix is more pop/ Christmas. Each has their lane and it’s wide open for them and for us to enjoy. Doing a great job here, I enjoy your reactions. Avi guested on Ring Of Fire for HomeFree. Enjoy your trip down the Pentatonix rabbit hole.
Most a capella fans like more than one group with Pentatonix (who paved the way for the other groups to follow in the sense they were first to win Sing Off & gain mainstream attention), & Home free the top 2 in popularity with Voice Play a close 3rd. We can appreciate them all especially since they cover different genres & are friends themselves. It’s a tight knit community. You’ll offend no one by liking both groups. Avi did Ring of Fire with Home Free & I cant think of the other offhand. He also has some great solo stuff, especially his newest The First Place I Go, written about his anxiety/depression. It’s amazing. We all appreciate talent wherever it is. I think you summed up PTX very well by saying their voices blend without getting lost in each other. Great observation & so true. If you haven’t already I would suggest 90’s dance Medley, Bohemian Rhapsody (it got a shout out from Queen guitarist Dr Brian May) and their first Grammy they won for their Daft Punk medley which was made for under $500 in Kevin & Avi’s apartment kitchen & closet.
You'll find that there are many crossover fans between Home Free, Pentatonix, and Voice Play. There is room for each group. They are all extremely talented and realize that there's room for everyone. Each group has their own sound and style and we, the fans, reap the rewards. Keep up the awesome reactions!
Love your reaction and the enthusiasm!!! I just watched your reactions of Pentatonix, so I don't really know what your flavour of music is, but I think you can check more of Pentatonix videos, they have done lots of genres such as Pop, EDM, ballad,..., especially their Christmas music (since Christmas is coming to town 🤗) everything is just as amazing. I'm really glad that I found your channel and saw your reactions to my beloved band. I have subcribed and now desperately awaiting for more of your reactions to Pentatonix 🥰 P.S: Don't worry, you've got all their names right 😁 And I'm also obsessed with Mitch's voice just like you, whether he takes the lead or singing in the background, I just can't help but hear him all over the place 🤣
The resolution at the end is just amazing. When you listen to music and hear certain chords your ears want to hear it resolve. They did an amazing job with it. Also deep drum sound by Kevin sounded like tympani drums.
they was in a show called the sing off and won this is how they found there selfs where they are now its pretty amazing how far they have came and still are getting better with there music its so sweet and amazing how much you love them so much
Just discovered your PTX reactions. I think you would really enjoy their Daft Punk medley. It's an old video with Avi, and they all rock with the EDM background sounds, especially Kevin, of course. It won them their first Grammy, and was absolutely groundbreaking for a cappella. Subbed.
Scott Hoying is the tall blonde baritone, Kirstie Maldonado is the mezzo soprano(rhymes with thirsty) and Mitch Grassi is a counter tenor which is the highest level for a man to hit. They grew up together in Texas and have been performing together since they were 14. When the show Sing Off was on the air the recruited Avi Kaplan (masterful bass ) and Kevin Olusola for beatboxing (he also plays the cello). Avi left the band on good terms in 2017 and replaced with Matt Sallee. Kirstie and Mitch are chameleons, constantly changing their looks, hair etc so don't freak out thinking it's new members. When Avi and now Matt sing the solo part, Scott steps in as bass. They are musical geniuses. Most of the arrangements are done by Scott (plays piano). Basically Pentatonix fans are called Pentaholics. Pentatonix doesn't do just covers of songs, they upgrade those songs!
That is what PTX does ! No time to stop, no time to breath and very strong emotionally. They take you on a rollercoaster ride EVERY TIME, and at the end of the song you're gasping for breath while drying your tears. They are just EPIC!! You must listen to Home Free "Ring of Fire" featuring Avi , so, so, so good.
Thanks for a great reaction! This is a cover of the song sung by Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion; Scott sing Bocelli's Italian part and Mitch sing Celine Dion's part. Great that you know all their names so early on your Pentatonix journey! Love that you are a "Pentafry" and enjoy both styles of the acapella groups (they are all friends as you have already been told). I am looking foward to your reacting to "Ring Of Fire" with Avi Kaplin-- the two basses together are fire!
Making Christmas, Favorite Things, The Wizard of Ahhs, Come Along, and Aha Singapore Star Vista is live and filmed by a fan….when you watch it….Kevin is there….he took his cello off stage and returns on the other side of Scott and they never film him! 🤣 ENJOY! I’m excited for the first time reactions…..it’s the best watching folks find out what a gem they’ve just found!! 🥰
You're doing really well remembering who they are and what they bring to the group. I've really enjoyed all your reactions to them and I've been watching Pentatonix reactions for a longggggg time. Some of the specifics you hear and mention, I hear as well...but I rarely hear other reactors mention them. Good ear!!! One last thing, and then you will be all caught up. Avi's name is pronounced "Ah' vee". Please go check his music out too!
I kinda put their rendition of The Prayer in the "Epic Score" group of tracks they have. One that was masterfully composed by Ben Bram and PTX and gives a sense of grandness and perfection. Usually, these types of tracks are on their Christmas albums. But as you explore PTX you will see other styles of theirs. Just to name a few there are the "On The Couch", "Medleys", "Let's just stand/sit here looking like models while we sing", "Let's all wear makeup/dress fantastical!", "Bring out Beyonce (and other instruments)", "Who is that?/Where Are They? (the rare chance they feature someone else, just have other actors in their video or don't appear in the video at all". These are my self-made categories for them but I'm sure there are more.
Your facial expression says "My skin is peeling off", that's how I feel when I can't get the chills to stop, you swear you're wearing a T Shirt and Shorts in the Winter when in fact you're in a tropical region where Snow doesn't fall, yet your skin just be like "Nope not today".
Pentatonix have sung in other languages. They learned French to sing Papaoutai with Lindsey Sterling. I personally love Daft Punk Medly that they did. Avi was in Ring of Fire, and Champaign Taste on a Beer Budget with Home Free. On a side note? How do you feel about Asian bands/groups? I would love to see you react to One Ok Rock (any of their songs would be spectacular), or Band Maid (subtitles are your friend, and I suggest to start with their song Domination. Live is best with that), or Dreamcatcher (Again, subtitles are your friend. I would start you with an easy song that is a stand alone. So start with Deja Vu).
You haven't been Mitch slapped hard yet until you check out Aha live in Singapore At The Star Vista, in that you will Avi and Mitch slapped more than once. Also in my opinion Pentatonix is in a league of their own, Home Free and Voice Play are good, but no where near Pentatonix. Pentatonix has one of the top 10 beatboxer in the world.
I just don't understand how anyone can beat PTX. They don't have Kevin or Mitch. Even with Avi helping home free (and I love Avi) they don't hold a candle to PTX
Welcome to the newest member of the Pentaholics!! Being it's leading up to Christmas May i suggest you react to their versions of Mary Did You Know, Little Drummer Boy and Amazing Grace!! You won't be dissapointed!!
I think that one of the stories that came out after winning the Sing Off kinda sums up the PTX mystique…When asked what the experience meant to her, Kirsten replied…I’m just so happy that now the whole world will see how great Mitch is!!! They are each other’s greatest cheerleader!
Homefree, Pentatonix and VoicePlay are the trifecta of acapella groups. Very different but each are Fire in their own right

I love this one!
💯 AGREE!!!
Omg yes I completely agree with this!!!
It's so much fun! 🤗
Thank you so much for mentioning this. I had never heard it and it was OMG wonderful!!!
Scott does an amazing job singing his part in Italian. Such beautiful harmonies these guys can pull off.
💯💯FULL BLOWN PENTAHOLIC here for ALL your PENTATONIX and PENTATONIX related reactions!!💯💯
Another great reaction and well done remembering the names! I'm gonna toss out Bohemian Rhapsody as a suggestion, you'll be amazed (again!)
Another great cover from Pentatonix is Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone) You get to hear each member of the group. Keep up the great work 😃
The very end of that song where they go up . . . Never Fails! . . . Get the Chills EVERYTIME!
Mitch could sing the "Phone book" and I would be enthralled by him.🥰

It is totally possible to be a PentaFry Player! Gives you three times as many amazing things to listen to, and fifteen incredible voices.
Now it's time to check out *Voiceplay.* The theater kids of acapella. *Oogie Boogie Song.*
Pentatonix like Home Free were created to sing and sing together in their respective groups. ❤️
Pentatonix is more than a reaction it's a Religious experience! 🙏🔥
dont have money but will defiantly keep you and your family member in my prayers
i dont have good connections but i still keep praying cause he always listens and thank you the great reaction.
Thanks for this. I love how much you appreciate Mitch! I’m always drawn to his voice as well. I can always pick out his voice. It’s so distinctive.
Mitch Scott & Kirsten were classmates & original members.& all 3 were 19 when they won the sing off. They found Kevin & Avi becuz the competition needed @ least 5 members .
The iheart live version is outstanding!!! If not equally as good, it may be a small step better... just because it's live.
Amen to that. I watched that performance and I had tears and chills all over again.
Yes I was literally shocked how much it sounded just like the studio version. I didn't think they could do it live and man was i wrong 😂
i think its amazing live maybe the best live version ever that they have done
The Evolution of Michael Jackson is insane and also Amazing Grace and Imagine. There are so many. Have fun!

Just love this, its beautiful. Great reaction! For something a little different where Avi and Kevin are beasts and you get the gorgeous voice of Mitch I'd recommend their original song Love Again. You won't regret it!
Love Again is one of my two favorite songs by Pentatonix.

@@lachimiste1 Oh no!! I did not realize that! That's way too bad! I was so holding out hopes for this one.
👍🏻on the line up, you got all the names right
Avi was in ring of fire that you heard. That ending makes my spine tingle, plus i like Kevin and his bass drums near the end. The ending sounds like that big surround sound, you get in a movie theater
I love Pentatonix and watched lots of reaction videos
And your reaction is best reaction ever 👍
You have already reacted to one of the Home Free collabs with Avi...Ring of Fire 🔥
Kevin on the
strong and well-timed vocal percussion.
Yes you're right!! I'm talking to you during your reaction. Love it!!
Wow!! Just wow. Thanks for this reaction. I'm new here, and I really enjoy your PTX experience. 🇸🇪🔥
Grinch.
You should listen to pentatonix can't hold us. Amazing
I watched this reaction again today, and I was thoroughly entertained at how much you still didn't know about PTX 😄
I'm a Home Fry who could quite possibly become a Penta -Fry.
I love being a Penta-Fry - but I like being a Home-aholic even more
Most a capella fans like more than one group with Pentatonix (who paved the way for the other groups to follow in the sense they were first to win Sing Off & gain mainstream attention), & Home free the top 2 in popularity with Voice Play a close 3rd.
The imitation of a slap after saying Mitch, was hysterical.
You'll find that there are many crossover fans between Home Free, Pentatonix, and Voice Play. There is room for each group. They are all extremely talented and realize that there's room for everyone. Each group has their own sound and style and we, the fans, reap the rewards. Keep up the awesome reactions!
Awesome reaction! You’ll definitely love their cover of Bohemian Rhapsody!!!
in my opinion most of this video is like putting together a whole bunch of Mitch slaps 🦄and one huge beautiful surprise from Scott ✌❣
I have subcribed and now desperately awaiting for more of your reactions to Pentatonix 🥰
P.S: Don't worry, you've got all their names right 😁
And I'm also obsessed with Mitch's voice just like you, whether he takes the lead or singing in the background, I just can't help but hear him all over the place 🤣
The resolution at the end is just amazing. When you listen to music and hear certain chords your ears want to hear it resolve. They did an amazing job with it.
Also deep drum sound by Kevin sounded like tympani drums.
I just realized what your skull overlay is reminding me of. You need to watch PTX's version of "My Favorite Things"
PTX gets your emotions going. I cried when I heard this the first time. I even used the lyrics for part of our Thanksgiving grace.
YOU GOT IT. YOU ARE AN OFFICIAL PTX FAN. WELCOME.
🥰🎙🎹
Also check out their version of Gold, Break My Heart, Coffee in Bed and Mad World. 👍🏼
they was in a show called the sing off and won this is how they found there selfs where they are now its pretty amazing how far they have came and still are getting better with there music its so sweet and amazing how much you love them so much
Just discovered your PTX reactions. I think you would really enjoy their Daft Punk medley. It's an old video with Avi, and they all rock with the EDM background sounds, especially Kevin, of course. It won them their first Grammy, and was absolutely groundbreaking for a cappella. Subbed.
Another group like them is Voice Play , they have a amazing bass singer
Beautiful
One heck of a beautiful song with amazing harmonizing, as usual. Your reaction was just right as well.
Just watch them all!!!! Keep them coming!!! hahahaha alarm!!! I’m excited to see your reactions
Goosebumps!!!!
First time hearing this song from them. This is from the movie "Quest for Camelot". An old cartoon movie. It's a very beautiful song.
It’s amazing what Mitch being jet lagged and skulling 2 cans of Red Bull can do…. The whole group fed off his energy lol
100% right...there is good, and then there are Pentatonix...just no words...
you are speaking straight facts.
I just don't understand how anyone can beat PTX. They don't have Kevin or Mitch. Even with Avi helping home free (and I love Avi) they don't hold a candle to PTX
With you there definitely time for the actual Mitch slap 🤣 from aha live in Singapore star vista
“Say something” is a good one!
Just wanted to say thanks for the reaction. You're doing really good on remembering who's who.
Welcome to the newest member of the Pentaholics!! Being it's leading up to Christmas May i suggest you react to their versions of Mary Did You Know, Little Drummer Boy and Amazing Grace!! You won't be dissapointed!!
Enjoying your reactions and really love your sense of humor. I also appreciate how seriously you take learning about PTX. 😄👍
You did great. 👍🏾Thank you for learning and reacting. Enjoy the journey.
Great video can't wait to see more Pentatonix videos. You just got a new subscriber
I think that one of the stories that came out after winning the Sing Off kinda sums up the PTX mystique…When asked what the experience meant to her, Kirsten replied…I’m just so happy that now the whole world will see how great Mitch is!!! They are each other’s greatest cheerleader!
You nailed it! 👍
Someone compared the end to the thx thing you hear at the movies 😂
