  • This is a response to a popular EDC video "Lightest EDC Pocket Toolkit: 7 Tools, 14 Bits, 5 ¼ Ounces (148g)" by Todd Parker. In my humble opinion, in practice the setup isn't practical. I talk about why the setup isn't practical but also talk about ways to improve upon it.
    00:00 Introduction
    00:20 Explanation of his setup
    00:36 The bit driver
    1:58 The scissors (and better scissors)
    3:13 The knife and why the Bantam is flawed
    4:23 The pen
    Other lightweight knives (Lightweight, better steel, locking, better ergonomics)

    Victorinox Compact is also better than the Bantam, has the same scissors too:

    These are better scissors than the Victorinox Card scissors

    Todd Parker's video inspired me to come up with my own solution (sse my channel).
    I agree with you, that the Leathermen bits are too flimsy especially if you use them with a ratchet like the topeak one. They don't really fit and they will easily be destroyed when applying too much torque with the leverage of the ratchet.
    I also agree with you, that a ratchet needs a bit holder / bit extender for access and leverage.
    I like the Bantam Alox and for me it does work. I even downgraded to just carry the 58mm Mini Champ as a knife. I don't really need a bigger blade in my urban environment. For longer bike trips I might add a dedicated bigger folder and/or a 91mm Victorinox Ranger.

      Yeah for sure the Alox Bantam is probably the lightest weight for a knife, easy to carry around. But I just found it was awkward to use in-hand. I like a bit of girth :P

    I agree with a lot of points you make. I watched Todd's vid a couple of days ago and also thought using the Leatherman bits was a bit of a bad choice, as you can't use them inline in this ratchet. I don't rate them anyway as many are just ''half bits''.
    Same thought on those scissors. I go a layer extra to the Compact and prefer the Climber, I can get away without carrying a bit driver as the small flathead on the can opener will deal with PH1 and PH2 screws providing that they are not recessed.

      Yeah those Card scissors are actually worse than the ones inside other victorinox SAKs which I found shocking (I thought they were the same). I remember testing them out and it wasn't performing as well as the others.

    Good vid. I like Todd Parker's ideas and presentation quality. That vid had a big impact on my EDC ideas and I've come full circle back from it. Leatherman bits have been a big disappointment. They are ridiculously soft. Fine for "emergency" use but they wear out way too fast for daily use. Though I love that their extension fits my Champ, Manager and regular bits!

      Yeah I like his idea! It was his video that got me thinking of thinking smaller. :P. But yip I find that I don't like Leatherman bits. Also if you lose 1 Leatherman bit, you are SOL and need to buy the whole kit. :D

    The Leatherman bits do stay in the Topeak ratchet, but only in one orientation. However, trying to drive a screw with the Topeak ratchet without an extender is almost impossible, making carrying the Topeak without an extender not worth it.
    By the way, what is the extender you used on your Rambler?

      Wera Rapidator! :D Though I'm doing a ton of research currently looking at an extension that works with doublesided Wiha bits :D But so far loving the Wera rapidator.

      If you haven't stumbled upon it yet, the Wiha CentroFix bit extender is supposed to hold single and double sided bits.

    Your scissors are too bulky.

    • @Dracomies
      @Dracomies  4 місяці тому +2

      It's 3 X 2 inches and is 0.25 ounces (a quarter of an ounce). Identical in weight to the Swisscard scissors which btw requires you to buy the Card just to get the scissors :D

    • @StupidGamingShorts
      @StupidGamingShorts 4 місяці тому

      After seeing a few videos where they take the scissors from the Swisscard, I also thought that buying the Swisscard just for the scissors is kinda overkill, and it leaves you with a scissors-less card. Just buy a pair of mini stainless folding scissors man.

      @@Dracomies many customer reviews say the Victorinox Swiss Tool Card is poor quality. Not the same quality as the good quality Victorinox Swiss Army knives.

      @Dracomies  4 місяці тому +1

      The whole reason Todd goes with the Card is because of the scissors (which he extracts). But yip as mentioned in the video it's better to just go with the Victorinox Rambler which already comes with scissors and can be used as a bit driver too@@unitedstatesirie7431

    Interesting video. I am not a big fan of videos "attacking " other UA-camrs as we all put a lot of effort into our content. However You were constructive with some good alternatives. I looked on Todd's selection as more of a thought experiment on how light could you go. I never saw it as a practical EVERYDAY carry. Having looked at toolkits myself I favour compactness over weight. I see the Bantam as a secondary knife not as a heavy cutter. For example I take mine into our company head office and it's great for cutting paper or slicing fruit. I agree totally about three Leatherman bits - too soft and a complete compromise. I have looked at separate scissors and will include them in a future pocket toolkit. This is my latest version IMPROVED Urban POCKET TOOLKIT for 2024: VIPERADE VE10 #EDC #everydaycarry

      Todd’s video was inspirational!! It made me think outside the box. But yip my point wasn’t to attack but just to talk about alternatives. It’s a theme with my channel. I talk about alternatives to popular things (many which are just as good or better). I had the Bantam, even years before Todd’s video, and man I hated that knife :D It’s genuinely not a good knife because of its thin shape. :D (subjective of course) :P

    • @MB_EDC
      @MB_EDC 4 місяці тому +1

      @@Dracomies Haha! I think I like the Bantam for the reasons you hate it. Slim, light and low profile. Here in the UK there is a lot of anti-knife feeling and in an office setting it is frowned on to have an aggressive looking knife out. Most SAKs are no problem with that regard.

    • @Dracomies
      @Dracomies  4 місяці тому +2

      Oh that makes sense! That's another reason why I like the other knives, it's locking (and I like locking for safety reasons) but I think locking is illegal in the UK iirc. @@MB_EDC

    • @MB_EDC
      @MB_EDC 4 місяці тому +1

      @@Dracomies Correct! We can own and carry on public a locking knife if we have a good reason (e.g. needed for work/) otherwise has to be a non-locking knife with blade less than 3 inches. No problem using a locking knife at home. I did a video on UK knife laws (including totally banned weapons/knives) ua-cam.com/video/1RY2c00zef0/v-deo.html if you wanted to know more...
