Now I understand why a few of my plants have downsized! I thought it was because I repotted them, but it's because they never attached to their new pole. Thanks for this! I'll be very interested to see how the air layering goes for you 😊🌱
yes for sure! im not actually upset, I gotta make the thumbnail catchy tho lol. I love a good learning experience and its great to wittness what happens when it starts to hang!
I find using plank in pots is a waste of progress in the end. Once you pass a certain height a wood in a potting mix is like building a fence post with no cement. Itll eventually lean. What I usually do is build a plank and base from the beginning. The base and plank is a 90 degree fixture that gets even more stable the heavier and bigger your pot since thats sitting on your base which holds the plank securely. Hopefully your air layer is successful and best of luck with this giant👍🏽
One of the things I learn from you, is to try new things, pay attention, and learn. Even when a mistake happens, it is a learning opportunity and will allow for greater success in the long run. Thank you!
Yup. Did same on my monstera dubia. Blew up huge on the plank, then ran outta up and got small. Will try to air layer using your technique. Lazy never pays off. 😢
How do you keep the wooden plank from getting moldy? I want to stake some plants, but I'm worried about mold. I often get mold on the soil, after a while even root rot. One time I used a disposable chopstick as support but it quickly got moldy.
it just gets moldy, I could cover it in plastic or something i guess, or use a more expensive hard wood. Im still experimenting with pine so maybe ill abandon it
Vertical Space Time continuum. Haha. Life happens sometimes.. you’ll get her back on track in no time! I have a giant golden pothos that’s about 15 feet long maybe more.. growing on top of my aquariums, rooting out of an aquarium sprouting leaves underwater… with more heart shape leafs the size of a dinner plate and stem about 1/8” inches diameter. I have no idea what I’m gonna do with it!!! It’s so long but I also hate to cut it at this point.. I wish I could get it to anchor somehow maybe I need to bring a whole tree trunk inside 😂 kidding. I managed to prop one of the underwater tank babies by putting it directly into a dome. I’ve also been considering potting the Giant Mother up in soil.. I’m just keep putting it on the back burner. If anyone reads this suggestion would be greatly appreciated! 🙏
Noooo!!! This is so sad! I just ordered a giant Pothos cutting and I’m so excited!! The seller said that the leaves will be around twelve inches long!! I’m going to do an unboxing on my channel, so I hope the leaves aren’t damaged ✨✨
It's jade pothos, the same plant you can find in your garden center. Look up everything Plants youtube channel he has some good examples of getting them going on planks of wood. But yeah if you grow them up something and they root to it which is key. They will look like this! Good luck and have fun
They want to climb so they can make these giant leaves but we want them to be runners and vines so we let them hang.. I had no idea that I had been stunting my aeroids, that's the way I was taught they should grow. Now that I know better and have such great instruction to remedy, they're all sending out new growth after only a few days
hello! in my experience, putting aroids in a very loose well draining mix and watering them everyday. yes. everyday. will make them grow and root faster. im not really sure why but i literally planted my cutting with just coco husk and some moss. no soil. and it never dies. it can't be overwatered. even if you let it sit in residual water.
Not many smooth surfaces in nature for these types of plants to grow up.....probably why they choose rough surfaces like tree trunks to grow up 🤔🤔 Try ditching the smooth plank and replace with a tree branch with bark on it???😎😎
Yup! It may be hard to see innthr footage but I cut grooves into the plank to give the roots something to grab into if that makes sense. I should develope a way to mimic bark!
Sorry to hear that, been following along since u started. I literally got a big cutting from fl too. Around the same time. It's crazy how many similar issues presented themselves. Mine is now 8ft 25inch leaves last 5 fenestrated but I'm hitting the roof and need to top cut am terrified. Also bc vacations the most recent leaf is small bc grew past the light..😂 gl w urs!
WOW Man I'm sorry that happened to you, Right now I'm trying to get my philodendron plant to attach it's areal roots to a plank so I know all about the frustration you are going through. My friend I hope it cooperates for you. Happy holidays my friend 💚🌿💯
living for the giant pothos updates!! sorry to see it went off the moss pole but I'm sure with this new solution it'll start feeling secure again soon!
when you do the air layer like this it's super important to make sure that it has soil roots in the substrate as well as aerial roots before separating.
I have been air layering with clear containers with a hole punched in the bottom and a slit in the side to wrap around the stem, putting my prop mix in the cups, and keeping it moist. It's been hugely successful!
I am excited to see how the new plank design turns out. Might try it out on a Splendid cutting. Any wood recommendations? And what should I be looking at as far as the groove width/depth? Best of luck of the air layering!
I think my depth is about 1/4 inch not sure about spacing but I'm using cheap pine which won't last long. You might be better off with like cedar or sometbing
I subscribed about two years ago when you started the journey with this plant. Good luck and i'm sure the next two years of growth from air layering will be great. it's definitely been an inspiration.
2 years? Damn and it got so big too. I remember watching the first one. Makes me want to do something similar with the neglected golden pothos I have sitting at most shady corner of my balcony.
Now I understand why a few of my plants have downsized! I thought it was because I repotted them, but it's because they never attached to their new pole. Thanks for this! I'll be very interested to see how the air layering goes for you 😊🌱
thanks! I hope you can get yours growing good too!
Dang man, I'm sorry. I'm hopeful for it's future though!!!
Me too!
The story is don’t ignore your climbing plants and don’t take vacation. lol 😂
yeap lol
i love that you're still making videos! I've been subscribed for several years now
Love seeing comments like this! Thanks for all the support
What a gorgeous plant, it's unfortunate it moved off the pole like that, I can't wait to see how it continuos to progress
Same, I think it will bounce back fast
Appreciate all of the footage you have of this plant throughout the years!
Yeah it's crazy to think it's been that long! Thanks for watching
Omg that electrical tape, lol. Please get some velcro 😂. I'll throw a roll in if you finally do a plant swap with me.😅
i got some velcro lmao
This is not a loss! We have all learned a lot! Things one way or another are always a learning experience.

would be kind of cool to make a concrete donut that it could interface with in the bottom of the pot! this give me ideas!

Oh man I was wondering about a update on this. I would of just cut it back to the thick stuff, re attached it to a new plank. Thanks for sharing
When I chop the tip I will also cut a.mid section and also cut it back to thr thick part as you have suggested it's a good idea!
@@TechplantChannel cool can’t wait to see what happens!
I didn't see anything wrong with the plant. Looked good to me.
its getting much smaller and reverting to a runner in search of a tree
@@TechplantChannel Yeah, I did see that... I guess the beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Yup. Did same on my monstera dubia. Blew up huge on the plank, then ran outta up and got small. Will try to air layer using your technique. Lazy never pays off. 😢
its crazy how long it takes to get big then shrinks in a blink of eye lol

Your right, you screwed up big time. Looks horrible.
Lmaooo it does
cut it back a little and try again with everything youve learned??
That what I will do once it roots in that pot
What a great idea with the layering. She will get bigger and better in time. 😊
I hope so!!
I didn’t know a pothos would fenestrations
many times people see the ones growing outside in florida and think they are vareigated monstera lol. they get huge fenestrations!

you could take a growth tip and pot it up sorta how i did this one
can't wait for the update!
I hope it turns around! Thanks for watching!
who the dude that says they dont fenestrate , there a reason why they do
The doubters figured it wouldnt be possible in an indoor situation
It's an excellent idea to air layer to a plank.
We shall see if it pays off!

lmao
