Aside from the guy being pink, Rabbits are pretty decent animals for ninja (inspiration). They are very good at holding position while said position is under scrutiny, their fur can effectively camouflage them, their tracks are confusing, and when forced into fight or flight, they will almost always pick flight. And as you said, "Buns be speedy."

Snake was one of my first 3 villagers I was given back when the game originally released. Dude is still living on my island being the best lovable exercise-focused dork he can be and he's probably my favourite, having grown on me over time. oddly enough, since he was one of my initial villagers the inside of his house is a simple wooden log cabin rather then the ninja focused one.

If Snake was one of your starter villagers, than he probably got the stock jock house set-up. The first five villagers to set up residence on your island always have default housing accommodations.

@@inakamoto I’ve had jitters as one of the two starters, I really like him but is house is pretty plain and that’s kinda sad, I’ve tried giving him furniture but it still looks plain. I’ve been thinking of letting him go and maybe one day getting him back but honestly I probably would be more content with the villagers I have by the time he comes back around. Maybe if I had an amiibo card I could get his full house

To be fair, an ordinary-looking log cabin in a rural area would be pretty ninja. Don't want to call attention to the fact that your pad is actually a ninja domicile and training ground. Better to let them think you're some woodcutter or farmer, building a home out of whatever's available and sturdy enough.

I actually really like his American name, let's say that you found out that the Ninja 'Snake' was going to be infiltrating your facility or Castle or whatever...would you suspect the bubblegum pink bunny as being 'Snake'? Furthermore his appearance simply would cause him to be overlooked as a Potential Threat or if they do think he is a threat possibly under estimating what he can do. I think if he removed the ninja outfit he could probably wander around unchallenged in a lot of places that someone with a more intimidating presence would not be able to.

Not to mention, Gaijin specifically touches on this topic in several other videos. The ninja were masters of "hiding in plain sight", in order to study their target without risk. Like you said, who's gonna suspect the goofy looking pink rabbit?

It also helps that rabbits are naturally stealthy animals. Being a small, basically defenseless prey animal, they have to rely on alternative means to stay alive. In addition to being fast, they are also naturally quiet, tend to have small underground escape routes that a lot of animals cannot access, and in the worst case, they come in a 6 pack.

I would love to see a Rizzo video. The way he talks and the way his house looked, it portrays him as a retired ninja. I even surrounded his house in Bamboo so it can remain "hidden".

  • @GhostKitten69

I want to add because I feel smart: Not only are rabbits fast, they're also very small and lightweight, and tend to escape and evade predators by hiding in small spaces. And, the "cute pink bunny" look benefits a shinobi by making people less wary, like historical shinobi wearing costumes and kunoichi infiltrating noble houses.

  • @silversonic1
    @silversonic1 3 роки тому +44

    Bnuuy?
Also, Momochi can mean something else as well. Momo can mean peach in Japanese, thus explaining his pink color. And, of course, this can lead you to see that Momochi is possibly a portmanteau, as it looks to be fused with mochi, the thing the rabbit on the moon is making. This ties together because ninja are tied to night and full moons(at least as a trope).
There's also rabbit shaped mochi, as you know.

I'd like to say something about the high contrasting on the clothes that might make them more legit.
there is evidence that contrasting colors slows down the brain's ability to process them, if even for a moment. it takes your brain an extra moment to figure out what the object is, which could be quite handy for a ninja. while it is true that avoiding sight is the best option, if you get spotted, that extra split second to slip out of sight again would be quite handy.
an example of this is the advanced spider suit from spiderman ps4. it was specifically designed to take advantage of this thanks to the white accents.
i'm not saying real ninja used this technique, i'm saying that it could have been possible that they would use it, if they knew about it

I'd say he's legit for one reason: He reflects how Ninja survive today.
Think about it. In the past, Ninja survived by being stealthy, sneaky, and very secretive about their practices and what they're capable of. Many of their techniques were top secret because if their enemies knew what they did, they'd plan around it. Of course, while many of the philosophical ideas of the Ninja still survive today, such as what Momochi's eight rules were, many of their techniques, weapons, and tools are archaic. Therefore, modern Ninja survive by showing off what they could do hundreds of years ago, selling books about their history, and even having events, parades, shows, and museums that all show what they were capable of.
I'm sure the Japanese Self-Defense Force has an espionage branch where they work with allied organizations such as Mi5, Mi6, The CIA, and the NSA, and those are the closest people to modern-day Ninja that follow many of the same techniques evolved to fit modern times. But for the authentic ninja, the historical ninja? They survive by being open, which is ironic in every sense of the word, but remember, ninjas are meant to be good at survival, which means they're going to do what it takes to stay alive, and that's what Snake represents. Great video, Gaijin. Looking forward to the next one.

To be honest, I forgot this little ninja bun existed. I only ever encountered him once back in the OG game, and only then because I was using a friend's memory card to visit their town. So to learn that he's as ninja as he is made me pretty happy. Honestly, I wish I could fill my village with nothing BUT the animals who show traditional Japanese aesthetics... with one exception. Hanna, or as she's known in America, Cherry. I know she's more of your "Hot Topic Goth Girl", but she was the first Villager who ever moved into my village in New Leaf, and also the first villager who I'd maxed out friendship with.
But yeah, Shino, Momchi here, Genji, and the other critters from the Orient are definitely ones I enjoy.

Wouldn't 'luminous' throwing stars be pretty effective as a distraction? Whether they glow on their own or reflect light REALLY well (like made of mirror-shiny material), you could get someone's attention away from you or into a direction you want them to look by throwing one across their cone of vision, especially if there's decent light sources within the darkened area you're probably operating from. I can almost hear the 'What's that?!' of a guard suddenly looking 180 degrees away because someone chucked a shiny star that direction into a tree or bush or the side of a building at a spot they can't reach.
Pretty sure Gaijin's even said that throwing stars were more meant to either inflict a bit of poison damage, or as a distraction. So chucking a shiny star, or one coated in a night-luminescent fungus or something might turn someone's attention. So.... yeah. Item makes sense to ME.

correction on the "fuma shuriken"; they did exist. They were a European weapon called the throwing cross, which was an evolution/simplification of the throwing axe. Not nearly as impractical or unrealistic as some people think. As the name suggests; they were perpendicular metal bars that would be sharpened at each of the four ends to stick into anything they hit, and they could easily be used in close quarters combat by holding one end and stabbing with its opposite end, or just swinging it like an axe.

Ibuki from Street Fighter would be interesting since each game presents her so differently in motives and skills. The Udon comic is probably the most historically accurate though I doubt any ninja school would let a Shinobi study abroad.

what if there was a shuriken that had a flaming bit of tinder in it, designed to ignite easily flammible objects like hay piles or wood storage areas? that might be the luminous ones

  • @bthsr7113
    @bthsr7113 3 роки тому

While feudal Japan probably wouldn't have the tech for it, I can see some theoretical applications for luminous shurikens. Marking targets when going against other sneaking forces, leaving a trail or markers that could be mistaken for fireflies, distracting the target from the real killer, or (if you put something strong enough in there) disorienting the target with bright lights/diminishing their night vision.
Just some thoughts on how the concept could possibly be used.

Great video, Gaijin. Here's some other characters you could cover:
    Gray Fox (Metal Gear)
    Daredevil (Marvel)
    Vega (Street Fighter)
    Storm Shadow (GI Joe)
Ra's Al Ghul and the League of Assassins/Shadows (DC)
    Corvo (Dishonored)

"4. Colourful movements and flourishes are unnecessary."
After that I wonder if the latest arc of Kimetsu no Yaiba will get a Wich Ninja episode.
Granted, our flashy Hashira decided to turn his back on his ninja roots but there are quite a few interesting things that could be analized. Plus there is the entire Entertainment district wich could also be fun to see analized.
Sorry, that hardly has anything to so with this video, it just that it jumped at me.
Great video, there is a lot I never even considered when playing the game and I am glad you took the time to go into detail with this stealthy rabbit.

…When you said the name “Momochi”, it sounded familiar, but I couldn’t quite place it… Until I remembered, it’s the surname of Zabuza, from Naruto. Who is, in certain ways, very ninja and very _not_ ninja. Admittedly, that could be said of the most ninja Naruto characters, so…
