    Not everyone can afford to have professionals come rip out and replace entire parts of a home. I think this is such a beautiful and inspiring look into a normal inexperienced person doing what they can with what they’ve got and learning along the way. Besides you never know what life has in store for you so if you aren’t loaded bandaids work just fine for the most of us.

      Exactly! And I feel like it’s more fun to just remodel your whole house by yourself like Hannah is doing, she’s inspiring me to remodel my own house when I’m old enough to move out. I love watching her paint her house and move in.

    • @ButterflyBox89
      @ButterflyBox89 3 роки тому +12

      Nocti somnia I admire her hardwork, but coming from a background of doing up and restoring several old historical ruins I would say do it properly or have someone teach you to do it properly, just because if you sell this place on later people notice shortcuts. I can see the porch is rotting and the house is not insulated properly or that the paint hasn’t been applied properly (painting is a skill in itself as it needs to be properly applied and thinner out patiently) in the end slapping paint over something does not fix it it just makes things look cheaply done and lazy. It’s all a learning process but I’d be concerned that if she wants to sell and move on at some point it’ll be an issue. Saying that I’ve very much admired that fact that she has done this by herself and that she has the get up and go to do this.

    • @ThePaulake

      @@ButterflyBox89 I agree , I have gone into more than my fair share of supposedly freshly remodeled houses and the new owner not only had to have it all ripped out but also paid way less for it than if the shotty work had not been done in the first place, that being said she makes her money from these videos so it really doesnt matter, also this cabin is just such a mess anyway she can almost do no wrong. he improvements wont add value but I dont think in this case hurting it much either. lastly she is learning as she goes and that was the plan for this cabin, just a playground to practice DIY stuff on. she has done some work that I find extremely cringe worthy but I am a finish carpenter with 25 years experiance she is a youtube influencer who probably has not even been alive 25 years yet so I think she is doing a great job. I could never make a video and get so many people watching it and make money from it! that is where her talant is without a doubt! the channels where a homeowner goes to great effort to do everything correct get SO extremely boring and take forever, she has quick results and it is entertaining. she gets 5 stars from me!! and this is coming from a guy who after the first video I watched of her I criticized what she had done but I keep coming back and have come to understand the real spirit of her channel and purpose. it is for entertainment purposes and it is just fun.

    Cute... Now, about the expanding foam, don't remove it, just carve it back a bit and refill the space with dry wall mud or caulking so it looks like chinking. That way you'll still have the cottage aesthetic and keep out drafts and bugs. You can buy metal mesh as anchor material for chinking that helps with rodents too.

      Tyvek the wall and add shiplap or other siding. Have the breaker box moved, they are designed to be outside, maybe with a small enclosure. Edit - I would not use concrete, it will retain moisture & rot the wood. Tar would work, but that is messy - you could also use hemp, which is what they use in boats to 'caulk' joints.

    Wonderful :) I have a suggestion to help with the drafty log wall that you used spray foam on last winter: I know the logs look nice, but perhaps you could insulate that wall only with the regular kind of insulation (the one you used in your lounge when your uncle helped you move in), then put up a vapour barrier and some planks/boards. I'd also suggest investing in some double glazed windows just for that portion of the house at least. That way, in winter, that wall becomes an insulted barrier between you and the cold outside! Just an idea, but I'm also a novice :) Keep up the good work, I love watching you, you are an inspiration.

    Do you have to be concerned about rain on the side the chair and edge of your desk are on? I was just thinking with rotted boards in that area the water might get in and ruin your furniture. But maybe there’s an awning outside that we can’t see. It does look very inviting. You’re so funny “I need to do an outfit change I think!” 😂

    As we watch, Hannah says, “Hold on”.
    She exits in a sun dress and returns in a beautifully sophisticated number.
    She sits, picks up her pen and writes: I once had a farm in Africa.…
    I love that porch!

    For the vertical logs, Perma-Chink (or other brand)would be a good product to use. It would air/water seal it and remain flexible. Kind of tedious, but easy to do. I live about an hour south of you and most lumber yards carry the product.

  • @na1219
    @na1219 3 роки тому +78

    It looks cute but from the more practical perspective: if you don't fill the gaps the floor will keep rotting. Would consider redoing all the floor because it looks concerning. Also, you definitely need some proper isolation on the walls. Unless you are planning to spend winters in van which is cool and tbh good idea.

    Ha, ha... I love this girl - She cracked me up for the majority of the video and in the end it looks like a magazine layout... I have to watch again to count the wardrobe changes....
    On that "drafty wall" with the vertical logs - You can refer to the insulation between them as chinking - blue tape on either side of the chinking then fill over the insulation with "something", it could be bondo, then paint that and remove the tape for a clean line - It'll give the log cabin feel even though this is now a cottage.... :D
