- my new favorite room in the cottage 😊
very swiss family robinson vibes, and has been THE best place to hang out as the sun sets.

Very creative!
Well, IT'S a creative way to break her ankle and end her YT career!

Exactly what I thought of
Not everyone can afford to have professionals come rip out and replace entire parts of a home. I think this is such a beautiful and inspiring look into a normal inexperienced person doing what they can with what they’ve got and learning along the way. Besides you never know what life has in store for you so if you aren’t loaded bandaids work just fine for the most of us.
Exactly! And I feel like it’s more fun to just remodel your whole house by yourself like Hannah is doing, she’s inspiring me to remodel my own house when I’m old enough to move out. I love watching her paint her house and move in.
Nocti somnia I admire her hardwork, but coming from a background of doing up and restoring several old historical ruins I would say do it properly or have someone teach you to do it properly, just because if you sell this place on later people notice shortcuts. I can see the porch is rotting and the house is not insulated properly or that the paint hasn’t been applied properly (painting is a skill in itself as it needs to be properly applied and thinner out patiently) in the end slapping paint over something does not fix it it just makes things look cheaply done and lazy. It’s all a learning process but I’d be concerned that if she wants to sell and move on at some point it’ll be an issue. Saying that I’ve very much admired that fact that she has done this by herself and that she has the get up and go to do this.
When you don't notice that "have someone teach you" is a privilige. When you don't have that someone who could teach you for free then a lot of people can't afford that.
@@ButterflyBox89 she’s said in multiple videos that this is her “fun house”, to just play around and learn things on her own in the best ways she can.
@@ButterflyBox89 I agree , I have gone into more than my fair share of supposedly freshly remodeled houses and the new owner not only had to have it all ripped out but also paid way less for it than if the shotty work had not been done in the first place, that being said she makes her money from these videos so it really doesnt matter, also this cabin is just such a mess anyway she can almost do no wrong. he improvements wont add value but I dont think in this case hurting it much either. lastly she is learning as she goes and that was the plan for this cabin, just a playground to practice DIY stuff on. she has done some work that I find extremely cringe worthy but I am a finish carpenter with 25 years experiance she is a youtube influencer who probably has not even been alive 25 years yet so I think she is doing a great job. I could never make a video and get so many people watching it and make money from it! that is where her talant is without a doubt! the channels where a homeowner goes to great effort to do everything correct get SO extremely boring and take forever, she has quick results and it is entertaining. she gets 5 stars from me!! and this is coming from a guy who after the first video I watched of her I criticized what she had done but I keep coming back and have come to understand the real spirit of her channel and purpose. it is for entertainment purposes and it is just fun.
It looks beautiful! Please be careful with the axes hanging high up like that! Last summer, I was moving my ladder and forgot I left the hammer on top, it fell and hit my head. I got lucky, only a concussion and minor puncture wound in my hand. Better to be safe. I never put tools in high places anymore.
“She looks like she needs help” and then continues to make a shelf out of trees. It’s so very satisfying doing things like this yourself. There may be some struggle but it’s better than being helpless. Enjoy it while there’s no snow coming through those walls!
I would totally love to see the previous owner's face while you turn into a simple cabin a magical, cozy home!
Living vicariously through the undying efforts of someone 1/3 your age is the KEY to life. You go, girl!

Cute... Now, about the expanding foam, don't remove it, just carve it back a bit and refill the space with dry wall mud or caulking so it looks like chinking. That way you'll still have the cottage aesthetic and keep out drafts and bugs. You can buy metal mesh as anchor material for chinking that helps with rodents too.
I just turned 58 on June 4th and I've been tearing out old and putting in new. I'm so proud of the work I've done. And I give all the thanks to you. You inspired me to do things I never thought I could. It was really bad and now it's beautiful

If you don’t seal the gaps between the logs that comprise the wall, the floor is just going to rot again. Unfortunately
Yes totally!
Also, you'd really need to sandpaper that old paint before applying a new layer.
@@fosfeen wait, why?
@@rocolas if you don't clean and rough up the base layer of paint then the new layer won't stick well. This will lead to it peeling up a lot faster if not immediately. Depending on the type of paint the first layer was.

I need to start wearing dresses while doing chores haha
I am a house painter by trade. Seeing her paint in a dress amazes me. I go home at the end of the day covered in paint.....Hannah? Nope. Cracks me up.
I recently made the switch to only wearing dresses/skirts (They look better on me, are more comfortable, and I feel pretty every day). At first it was weird, but now I'm used to doing everything in them. I have aprons that I wear if I'm doing something messy. It's been such a good change for me! I look forward to getting dressed every day, now! :) I figure women only wore skirts and dresses for most of human history. If they could do everything in them, why can't I?

It’s what I refer to as a Hemingway room. It’s my dream to have a house that looks like Hemingway would have lived in it. This is stunning.
What a perfect term!
Hannah is there anything you can't do? 😂😂 You are very wise beyond your years! You definitely have an old soul. I can honestly say I've never in my life met anyone else quite like you. I never get tired of watching your videos and I don't think I ever will either!
Ops didnt u know. She is a fairy.
Absolutely amazing.
Are you going to fill in the gaps between those outside logs so no rain can get through and rot your new floor?
I wish I had the vision to do what you do.♥️
It is so beautiful. The whole cottage is beautiful. I would never be able to leave it.
Loving these transformations on your cabin!!. Maybe fill the gaps in the logs on the bottom of the wall with concrete to stop water getting in, and cold air in winter. Possibly build a shallow wall around the breaker box to insulate it and keep cold air from the inside of the cabin.
I was going to suggest the same thing. I would also cut the smaller trees around her cabin to dry it out and also, the roots won’t interfere with the foundation. Looks amazing!! I love how she decorates.
Tyvek the wall and add shiplap or other siding. Have the breaker box moved, they are designed to be outside, maybe with a small enclosure. Edit - I would not use concrete, it will retain moisture & rot the wood. Tar would work, but that is messy - you could also use hemp, which is what they use in boats to 'caulk' joints.
It’s called chinking. It fills in the gaps between logs
@@valerieann2751 yes, used to use mud years ago, but I'm thinking that would get nasty.
@@ckm-mkc Cob is what she should use its easy and accessible and would look good with the wood best thing is it insulates and breathes. I think Hannah would love the process too its so tactile and sculptural.

I will never tire of saying it, your lifestyle, simplicity, optimism and desire to make changes is incredible, how you completely transformed that cabin is incredible, you turned it into a completely magical and cozy place. Definitely meeting you was the best thing that could have happened to me because you radiate a beautiful energy. Take care of yourself ❤
i had an idea for that drafty log wall. you could add some 1x3 strapping and some foam board insulation then cover it plywood and then cedar siding or shingles
Hannah is a young lady with an old soul. It’s refreshing to see someone use their talents to charm their home in such a marvelous way, it’s the idyllic story tale cottage. Maybe she can make it a B&B someday! I love her. ❤️ -Lizzy B.
Now, let’s get that beautiful Sunroom weather proofed for winter 😁
That’s what I’m saying!
Just a curious, grandmother and fan. Because everything about you is beautiful, just how many proposals have you had.
Cringe
Remember the rotten wood floor... it rotted because there is no awning over that screen window. Your desk and chair will suffer the same fait if you dont put a awning overhang so any rain water doesnt come in on the floor and furnature.
Thank you for this info.
It helps me greatly!!!
I'm sure it helps her too😊
@@maesams6212 i made thick plastic covers for the windows, lined on the outsides with waterproof fabric, and then you just clip them on and off when you need, my porch has lasted 30 years and its great!
Yes, but where's the photos? Inquiring minds want to know!
I love learning all these things. Thank you so much!!
It needs to be waterproofed the floor too. To heck and back
I'm in love with her room design style and her wardrobe and music taste. She is such an inspiration and a badass and so fun to watch her create such beautiful spaces inside and outside her home ❤
NEED TO KNOW: when will you be attacking the cottage exterior?! AMPED to see you go to town on the outside! The patio/porch turned out so good!
yes! if she insulated and put up a wall on the outside wall in the porch then it wouldn't get so cold and drafty in the winter. it'd also hide all the nasty electrical wires from the electrical panel.
Can we all please take a minute to appreciate how absolute of a badass QUEEN this woman is!! I have just moved into my own wood cabin a few months ago, and have gone about things like an complete amateur, I have no idea what I'm doing, but you know what, sometimes you just have to make it work.
Wonderful :) I have a suggestion to help with the drafty log wall that you used spray foam on last winter: I know the logs look nice, but perhaps you could insulate that wall only with the regular kind of insulation (the one you used in your lounge when your uncle helped you move in), then put up a vapour barrier and some planks/boards. I'd also suggest investing in some double glazed windows just for that portion of the house at least. That way, in winter, that wall becomes an insulted barrier between you and the cold outside! Just an idea, but I'm also a novice :) Keep up the good work, I love watching you, you are an inspiration.
“Do not do this” *points at the screen with a serrated sword* 🤣🙌🏼
Two of my favorite things about Hannah:
1. Her music choices span many decades and genres. Depth and great taste.
2. The confidence to just dive into a project without the fear of screwing it up and looking stupid.
DITTO...she's so love-able...for those two things too.
Gotta say, when you fixed that broken floor, I went "wow". It's not really the, erm, traditional way to fix this, but it works.... For someone who clearly is doing this for the first time, you're doing great. Mad talent, really.
You know Hannah, if you would accept ads on your vlogs at the moment your channel would generate you about USD$600,000/year in revenue. That is about USD$50,000/month. I think that is substantial and something to really think about.
I just n saw a few ads
Way to go Hannah!!! Watching you turn your creative visions into spaces that are absolutely lovely and enchanting is one of my favorite things on UA-cam!!
Every project she starts Im like... “thats gonna look weird” and every time she proves me wrong. Another perfectly put together space.
Do you have to be concerned about rain on the side the chair and edge of your desk are on? I was just thinking with rotted boards in that area the water might get in and ruin your furniture. But maybe there’s an awning outside that we can’t see. It does look very inviting. You’re so funny “I need to do an outfit change I think!” 😂
As we watch, Hannah says, “Hold on”.
She exits in a sun dress and returns in a beautifully sophisticated number.
She sits, picks up her pen and writes: I once had a farm in Africa.…
I love that porch!

Beautiful Hannah you've done a great job transforming the cabin into a home. Your good vibes, good eye and magic touch is evident all around. Cant wait for the next one 💗👍
For the vertical logs, Perma-Chink (or other brand)would be a good product to use. It would air/water seal it and remain flexible. Kind of tedious, but easy to do. I live about an hour south of you and most lumber yards carry the product.
It looks cute but from the more practical perspective: if you don't fill the gaps the floor will keep rotting. Would consider redoing all the floor because it looks concerning. Also, you definitely need some proper isolation on the walls. Unless you are planning to spend winters in van which is cool and tbh good idea.
At the end of this video i found myself screaming “she is woman!” Builds her own shit AND romantically/whimsically beautiful in that space, yes please

I just always feel so cozy watching your videos. Such great energy coming from you.
Ha, ha... I love this girl - She cracked me up for the majority of the video and in the end it looks like a magazine layout... I have to watch again to count the wardrobe changes....
On that "drafty wall" with the vertical logs - You can refer to the insulation between them as chinking - blue tape on either side of the chinking then fill over the insulation with "something", it could be bondo, then paint that and remove the tape for a clean line - It'll give the log cabin feel even though this is now a cottage.... :D
