Could be that there's a mixup between production order and airdate. So although it was the seventh episode to be produced, it was aired earlier, usually because they think its the stronger episode. It happens all the time, particularly in shows where you don't need to worry about continuity.

I believe him when he said that he took these flights, I have no reason to think he's lying, but I looked up on one airline (Frontier Airlines) on a random day and did not see any way to book 3 back to back round trip flights in one day. I'd love to know what airline had that availability to fly from LAX to SFO 3 round trips in a day.
