C'est là qu'on voit que Bob BERG nous manque !! Sur ce morceau, il se "baladait" d'une force !!! La bise à Mike. This is where we see that we miss Bob BERG!!! On this track, he “swung” with a force!!! Love to Mike
I straight tf up listened to this 4 times in a row so I could focus on each of them individually for the whole song because they’re all insanely talented
i first saw Mike Stern in the 55 Club in the Village in 1985/1986. a dive but man, front row to some great jazz. This was before his first album. hearing Mood Swings in that place was life changing. I'll never forget spending so many late nights in that dive because of Mike. so happy to see others being able to enjoy his talents.
Sadly the 55 bar is a thing of the past, but I did see mike sterns wife, leni stern there a couple years ago. She’s an amazing guitar player in her own right!
1:30 dat feeling when Tom Kennedy plays a chord in the 2nd sixteenth note of the beat and Richie Morales just happens to crash a cymbal exactly at the same time. you can see Tom's satisfaction in his face. I know this feeling too because I have improvised over a rhythmic base on the guitar and when you happen to think and play the same thing at the same time alongside the drummer, it just feels fantastic! excuse my english, I'm not a native speaker haha. great tune!
Wow. Just wow. Stern and his quartet totally shred on this tune. I’ve been a fan since the mid 90’s. Have not had the privilege of seeing him play live. Such an incredible musician.
Help!! Musicians thus make them emotion and cry: to excite because it is a joy to see them completely taken in what they are playing, the energy and the fun they transmit ... to cry because for a common mortal like me it is impossible to reach this level of skill! Thanks for your music and for all I feel when I listen to it!
man! that glued pick (really glued in his fingers) is really a mark of greatness! saw you in Manila almost a decade ago...pls do comeback sir! thanks for the music!!!!!!!!
zangsax no. Brecker was. Brecker played that album only two tracks. This one and Gossip. Berg played all the others. Anyway two amazing sax players that I really miss. R.I.P.
Love this. Michael Brecker’s solo on the album Time in Place is my favourite, though. Brecker’s phrasing just tells a story and so expressive! Go check it out - Tine in Place, chromazone. Also, on UA-cam, Guthrie Govan with his band The Fellowship play this tune. Go search! That band is something else. Very low key but with a devoted fan base for good reason!
Brecker was an absolute beast, such a powerful player. This guy here seems to be channeling some of that energy, at 3:22 he plays some of those trademark false fingerings lines that Michael popularized back in the day. A great way to get into the vibe of the tune!
Of course Michael Brecker is a brilliant saxophonist. But on the album you're talking about, I can't help but include Bob Berg, who is the lead saxophonist and who also delivers one of his finest performances. Particularly on the tracks “Time in Place” and “After All”. The latter is a must-listen live track, as it is even more sublime in the 3-track live album Games/After You/After All. Enjoy.
It’s crazy how a guitar player wrote one of the most anti guitar(position wise)melodies ever lmao. Hell some of those transition lines tripped him up too and he wrote the damn thing. Still love playing and hearing it though.
Berg actually didn’t write it. Stern wrote it and it’s the final track on his second solo album Time In Place. Berg didn’t even play on the track... Michael Brecker did.
Mr. Morales has been playing with Mr. Stern since way back in the 90-s. I had the chance to see them at JakJazz festival. Mike Stern Trio, with Mr Morales on drums, Mr. Goines on the bass.
I know this is supposed to be a joke, but as I've seen other comments about "a library" or "office", I'll bite and be _*that guy*_: those "books" are tapes.
@@stevesaxmusician65 I wasn't trying to piss on your party .-D People on the wrong side of their forties are probably thinking those are actual books. Gotta educate the youngsters! BTW, there's no way anybody could feel depressed watching a musician who broke both his arms, laughing and playing like nothing happened. He's glued a pick to his fingers o_O ! I couldn't play like this even if I glued myself to a robot T_T
very loose performance, maybe a little to fast for the sax and guitar to be in unison, you can hear them struggle to keep up with each other, rhythm section 10/10 love jazz!!

Mr. Stern has been playing that same guitar so much it looks like it has a rosewood fingerboard - almost! Man, sounds so good .......
yamaha guitars are soo underrated

That is some furious bass playing

Terra Incognita well observed :)

Amazing band that one
Tocó el 01/03/24 en Argentina, en un lugar llamado Café Berlin.. estuvo increible🎉🎉
Just absolutely amazing, the entire band is such a tightly cohesive unit of master musicians. Great performance!
Mike Stern @ 55 Bar 3x so Awesome! :-) When the Village as OK aftter 8
Lovely comping in this version by Mike
Phenominal players. All of them. Such a balm on these trying times! Thank you

I like this version, more fresh, Mike was on fire and I like how make the sax have more expresion.
Listen the version with dave weckl...
@@filippoterzaghiina bro the versión with Dennis Chamber is better
Best seven and half minutes of my day! Thanks, Mr. Stern and friends!
Took me a whole minute to realize my video settings was at 1.5x speed, thought that the boys had taken something special.
Lol 😅
Like “remembering Fat Time”? lol
drummer makes the band...always
man! that glued pick (really glued in his fingers) is really a mark of greatness! saw you in Manila almost a decade ago...pls do comeback sir! thanks for the music!!!!!!!!
Sometimes old tricks are the best tricks
How can Stern play like that with his thumb CONSTANTLY over the neck?....incredible musicianship
how else do you play the first string?
@@FoFrx lol
Franceschini is an INCREDIBLE tenor player, but I don't know if he was just having a bad day or what......that tune kicked his ass.
Not easy playing something already played by Brecker and Berg…
Stern is a genius and Tom Kennedy is just sick.
a mike stern classic from many years ago I always think a breckers solo but this is a new refreshing take excellent
robinjonesguitar Bob Berg

it's thrilling and exciting
killer base player
Well, that was worth a replay, or 10...
good musicians

who is the drummer please...
Richie Morales
When you stumble upon a Mike stern video and the drummer isn't Dave weckl or Dennis chambers and you scrutinize extra hard.
Richie Morales
Mr. Morales has been playing with Mr. Stern since way back in the 90-s. I had the chance to see them at JakJazz festival. Mike Stern Trio, with Mr Morales on drums, Mr. Goines on the bass.
Richie is a great drummer. That sounds like a great gig.
👏👍👏
He used to kill this tune with Bob Berg- a great loss

Mike Stern’s signature guitar from Yamaha.
Damn that drummer brought it in a little hot 😂 but they’re hanging
Almost....Bob
ouch ...that was hot
Crazy I know you "have to play quiet at paste.... Not mike lol!
I didn’t know that Pierce Hawthorn played the drums 😂

Am I the only one who really dislikes the specific interpretation of this drum part?
Robert me too!
Prob got the call for it last minute no time to prepare
Yeah sounds a little off, dunno why tho. Maybe a little sloppy? Again I'm no drummer so can't say
Tough to top the original
he done a great job wtf are u sayn
This is fucked up, man.
