    I recently found one almost identical to yours here in the same condition with 3 magazines for $675. However it’s a series 2 made in 1950. When I saw it I had to have it, along with the HighStandard Citation Military with 6” fluted bull barrel made in 1974 that came with 4 original mags for the same price. I had to get the pair together before anyone else, especially at those prices! They both shoot so incredibly, I’m really impressed and excited how awesome they are and such a joy to shoot. I plan to continue to run Standard Velocity only ammo in them. Cute kitty, Great video

      If they are in good shape, those were pretty good prices. You should do a video with them sometime.

      @@1957Shep they are definitely in real good shape. You have inspired me to do a video perhaps this spring or summer. Thier range is a nice out doors one with nice carpeting on the big tables I can lay them all out on for a nice demonstration. I’ve been collecting, I have several others to add to the mix. I think 10 in total now. My kids and I really enjoy a nice variety of 22,s to plink with. Thankfully they help me clean them properly too. 😉
      Currently is just above zero degrees here, yesterday was -20 with close to a -50 windshield

    I have had this very same pistol. Mine also dates to 1977. I was shooting mine last week at the local range. The quality of the fit and finish stands out to even the casual observer. Shoots well an digests everything I have put into it, but it really likes S&K Pistol match Dark Green Box in particular. Thanks for this video !

    I have 4inch match target series 3 too. My gun made in 1969 and this great pistol and came to Thailand in one year later 1970. I just changed magazine spring, new spring help to get the better lock slide in the last round. Thank you for upload a good VDO.

      That`s a common problem. My other 2 Woodsman pistols don`t always lock open on the last shot.

    Great Video, thanks for the history lesson as well. I’m very happy with my version of this made in 1950. It has original gold inlay on all the writing and designs. Kinda unique! It shoots so smoothly and flawlessly with a perfectly designed trigger pull. Definitely a bullseye shooter that’s for sure, like my 1974 HiStandard Supermatic Citation Military with fluted bull barrel. Such a joy to shoot, hold, look at and even clean.

    Yes, a nice piece. Kind of reminds me of the High Standard pistols. I really like the original Ruger from 49. . . . . hey Shep, I picked up a Ruger Single Six, flat loading gate from 1955.

    An iconic target pistol. They were very well made, even for Colt's high standard back in the 1950's... Thanks for sharing it with us!

      @@3ducs in an emergency survival situation you can fire .22LR ammunition in the Winchester .22 Magnum lever action rifle. The .22 Magnum round is so much more powerful than the .22 Long Rifle round. You can reliably kill deer with it at close ranges.

      They are a little bit of a pain to take apart and put back together. But I guess no worse than some other guns of that era. Sometime I should do a video of how to take apart the Benelli pistols. They are good pistols, but strange design and take down.

    Hello Mr. Shep. Ive notice you're very knowledgeable about 22lr handguns. I carry an h&r 929 for my back up to my glock 27. I just got back from practicing a little and have been noticing that I have to hit the ejector rod pretty hard to get spent cartridges out. Is this normal for that model or does it need some tlc? Great content btw.

    • @1957Shep
      @1957Shep  2 роки тому +1

      Most likely cause is that the chambers need a good cleaning. But it could be something worse like a slightly bent ejector rod, or the ejector itself binding. If a good cleaning of the chambers with solvent and a bronze brush doesn`t fix it, you probably ought to have your local gunsmith take a look at it.

    My Second Series Match Target has a traditional magazine release button just behind and below the trigger. No Idea why they returned to the First series style release with the Third series

    What's better this colt match or the Smith and Wesson model 41?

    • @1957Shep
      @1957Shep  2 роки тому +1

      Be a hard choice. But if I had to pick between them, I would go with the S&W model 41. Not that one is really a better shooter than the other. But the model 41 is a lot easier to take apart for cleaning, the angle of the grip frame is a little more comfortable in my hand, and I like the magazine release better. But those last two are personal preference. Someone else might prefer the Woodsman for exactly the same reasons.

    • @nickdipaolofan5948
      @nickdipaolofan5948 2 роки тому +2

      I think I would take the Woodsman, but only for collectability reasons. They still make 41s so I know I can get a 41 a lot easier (not cheaply though). As far as performance goes, the 41 probably wins out due to the ability to put optics on it without modifying it and some say it is a better design. I won't argue that, but I will say that both guns perform better than I can get out of either of them so that makes little difference to me. The match target looks better to me and will likely go up in value faster so I'd take the woodsman if I had a choice between the two for the same price.

    • @1957Shep
      @1957Shep  2 роки тому +1

      @@nickdipaolofan5948 While they do still make the model 41, the new ones leave something to be desired compared to the older ones. The new ones probably shoot just as good as the old ones, but they have that crappy bead blast finish and the grips look like some kind of cheap laminate.
      Agree that the Match Target is probably a better investment as a collector. Anything more than 20 years old and says Colt on it is going to go up in value.
      But older S&Ws are also going way up in price. Especially the N Frames and some of the target K Frames.
