Hi Jess and Jim, I hope Jim’s ankle injury quickly heals. I was an industrial fire and rescue officer and at different times had avulsion fractures on each ankle. These happened when I was jumping out of a fire truck, onto uneven ground. Ice, compression bandages and a couple of days rest helped heaps. Avulsion fractures are where the surface of the bone where ligaments of the ankle attach break away, if you aren’t careful about strapping the ankle in the correct position it may cause a long term weakness and the ankle can roll out. The bruising may indicate a fracture , so get it x-rayed to ensure the right treatment. Have a look at sports strapping manuals and see what you could do to strap up your ankles, to prevent any further injuries. Sports strapping helped me as I had to know where the ankles were weakened and the strapping provided support in the right way, I am now 70 and my ankles don’t give me any grief, so I believe that it worked for me. I used the sports strapping techniques in the first aid room too, helped a lot of guys keep on working without causing further injury, after the ice, compression and rest was done. I look forward to each update and enjoy watching your home grow. Take care abundance stay safe and I will see you on your next.
I would strongly recommend using a Diablo metal cutting blade with a circular saw. Less time, less small particulates to breath, less energy, and less dangerous. I'm an experienced contractor. Hope this helps! ❤
I found one on a nice old worm drive saw at an estate sale, and built a clamping jig that served as a straight edge. When I need angled cuts it's amazing.
@@leeboerner6681 worm drive saws are my favorite saw to use other then a Miter saw. I like my hand behind the blade (worm drive) instead of on top like a sidewinder.
You two are such a great team. I remember the early days of your first build of your bedroom below the dome…….now look at the progress……hope you have a speedy recovery.
All the best with the recovery. The more hou rest in the next few weeks, the better the recovery. My personal experience. Especially over 40yo. Im so glad the braces are in, it worried me.
Uvi is such a beautiful creature, she deserves some close-ups and hugs. What a great companion for you both. Not sure if you have had her snake trained, but it would be a good thing. Jim, be careful out there. Getting injured is not a good thing at all. That takes away half your work force. It looks like you use boots with good ankle support. I've rolled my ankles over the years, it is really painful. Jess...and Uvi are a great choice for a nurse when you need it. Definitely use some good eye protection when cutting or grinding any sort of metal. Roof is looking great!
Oh man! Ankle injuries are a bummer. Luckily it doesn’t look too swollen or bruised. Take care and maybe grab an ankle brace of some sort. The house is looking pretty awesome!
So sorry you hurt your ankle I know you're anxious to continue framing but do yourself a favor and stay off it as much as possible. Even if it doesn't hurt to stand on it if it's still sore and swollen it's not a good idea for you to push it too soon. The last thing you need to do is to reinjure it before it's completely healed. Patience grasshopper! Have a great week ❤
❤ 🎉 Yes! The wall framing has begun. It will move along pretty fast once you get all your placement installed. Yes, it seems like the mundane tasks are where we get caught. Maybe wear high top boits and wrap that ankle so it heals in the right spot. How are the chickens doing with the temp fluctuations? I know mine get used to the heat (high 90s up to 110 in summer), right now its dropping to mid 40s! Sheesh, winter again! The roof roks look great! I love the colored rocks butvknow the plan is to paint it all. Jess, take care of your man, yall are both keepers.!❤
Back in the wall phone days I jumped up to answer the phone and sprained my ankle. Played sports for years and climbed ladders painting never had a problem
The additional bracing you put up was a great idea until the walls are holding the post in place. It's neat you're getting the framework for the doors and windows in place. I am assuming, the bales are finished with plaster or adobe after they are installed and locked in place? Hope you ankle heals quickly, sprains are not fun. Yeah, it's funny how when you're doing a everyday task you hurt yourself isn't it?
Ankle injuries are one of the main injuries that "humans" just DON'T TAKE PROPER CARE OF!" When it's 90% healed they right back to work! And when they suffer a "RELASPE" they blame someone else!!!!! Great video as usual!

I have to wonder why people desert homesteading don't add vertical wind generation to their property. If the sun is not shining, the wind is blowing. So to speak anyways. They aren't even thst tall. Love the videos!
RICE = Rest Ice Compression Elevate. For 3 days! For 3 hours. Up to pee/etc, back quickly to rest elevated. Proper healing is the key to longevity abilities. Suggest highly recommend you wear a core/gut brace when handling those bales. Lace up work boots with safety toes. Drop that saw, sheet metal, your feet will be safe., you can not be injured!
Hope you’re able to recover quickly. Hope the rest of your materials show up soon so you can make some real progress towards making a habitable space so you aren’t so dependent on the trailer.
Greetings Y'all, Oh No Jim!! at least nothing is broke, looks like itl get blue, but now how are you going to take time to heal! Take it easy for at least a couple days anyways! Starting to get cold here like 20s in the morning it gets -50 plus with wind chill on the prairie here. The place is getting there! Remember only way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time! Oh beautiful rooster you have there He looks regal and spendy. Ohan Miyakuyaoyasin ( we are all related)
Take care of that ankle, Jim!! Hubby and I have matching ankle injuries. I broke my left one in December (stepped wrong on a PEBBLE, of all things!!!), then twisted same ankle in June. Then hubby stepped in a hole and twisted his right ankle a month ago. Not fun.
not sure if you know this but theres a local coop in elfrida now called THE LOCAL COOP. they have a website and such but i know 3 of the people who run it. they sell locally grown produce, eggs, meat products etc. might b worth checking out
This time of year snakes can be out at any time of day. The dog is a good early warning system but you guys should probably get some snake gaiters. Several years back my wife almost stepped on a Mojave Green Rattlesnake in Oatman Az in the middle of October. Not a good thing.

Howdy Jim and Jess! I was wondering if you installed those new Source solar powered units that create drinking water from air moisture? And if you have are you happy with them and their performance? I just spoke to Source and I am interested in their two-panel system for my property. I let them know that it was your video posted in September that led me to them.
It may be time to get a pair of lace-up work boots with excellent ankle support! Perhaps a back belt, too, it could prevent something nasty, too. You're young, but you aren't going to get younger. Best of luck in your healing.
How are you protecting all that structural wood from termites? Just south in San Carlos, Mx, all the older houses seem to get termites trying to get in every year. Be careful!

Your foot/leg injury may have been precipitated by the repetitive climbing up and down the ladder while carrying and modifying that last batch of steel panels. I hope you'll heal soon, but please don't put too much pressure on that ankle for a while (6 mos - 1 yr) while adding bone supplements to your diet (NON-carbonated calcium, magnesium, boron, & vits. D & K combined). BTW, your project is looking good. Tnx for sharing. Take it easy!

ummm, you can still walk on a broken ankle.. I fell at the ice skating rink and had to walk home about 1/2 mile.. I told my Mom I thought I had broken my ankle.. Everyone said if it were broken I could not walk on it,, so I did for about 2 weeks more, in pain the entire time, until my Mom finally took me to the Dr.. .. X-ray showed it was broke and had been broken so long that it was on it's way towards healing.. I had a choice of them rebreaking it and setting it again,, I chose nope.. Curious as to why you did not take the grinder up on the roof to make those cuts.?

Why don’t you complete putting the metal on the whole roof instead of starting on the walls?
I feel more comfortable this way.
