BeefyComet I mean you will really know that it's anime by the designs of Characters, You will Consider Doreamon as an Anime, And you will consider Spirited Away as an Anime, I mean I mean if you said Anime it doesn't refer if it was Many episode, Just the Character design
LORD I WOULD CRY EVERY DAY EVERY NIGHT I WOULD WATCH IT EVERY DAY EVERY NIGHT THEN LISTEN TO "CRY ME A RIVER" EVERY TIME I INISHED AN EPISODE AND EVERY 5 EPISODES I WOULD TAKE A BREAK AND DANCE TO ANYTHING IN THE MLP SOUNDTRACK!!!
LoL Nobody oh god not again..........You commented this about after or before new year,100k X 6(length of the vid) is 600k min,600k min divided by 1440min(mins per day) is 416.666,416.666 divided by 365(days per year) is 1.141year/s.You sir have commented this about 2-3 months after the vid got released, but based on the times you watched it and the time you spent watching it,what you have said is clearly a lie because its impossible to watch the vid before it got released in a few months. For the wrong claiming of times you watched this,Shame on you
Some details you missed; 1. The planetoid colliding with earth does not exhibit any significant gravity that it's size suggests. An object that size would be phenomenally destabilizing to our own gravitational field and well, the thing actually hitting us wouldn't be the worry anymore because our atmosphere (and oceans) would be screwed first. So we can conclude that the physics in Shelter's reality makes this a multidimensional event. 2. Humanity's technological level in Shelter is sufficient that a dude can design and build a spaceship in a warehouse within the scope of resources available in a crisis environment. Chances that more people survived this are... somewhat high. Also, the fact the event in the news is imaged from quite a distance above earth wound suggest that humanity is capable of some pretty advanced space mobility. 3. Despite the detail that the ship was designed for one, there are two seatbelts. Unlikely that the father would have made the restraint just for the bear. This suggests that the father designed it initially as a two occupant vehicle. Which also tells us that the reason he didn't join his daughter is that wherever he's sending her the ship either did not have the resources for two people, he would not live long enough to survive the journey anyway or the ship would not be able to meet some parameter necessary to complete the journey with him on it. So we can assume that he is sending her somewhere where she has a future.
Xena Discarding the context of the video title (and the discussion) using sarcasm to try and be all edgy and maybe look smart is kind of a sad hobby. Take care.
+Benedict Tan Actually when they show the schematics at 3:57 (of the Shelter video) it says it's a "Single-Seater". So it would seem he did add the restraints just for the teddy bear. I do however believe humanity did escape. The reason her father stayed behind with her was to let her have a "normal" life for as long as possible, basically experience life on earth rather than growing up on a space ship. When he sends her off I think it's to go to wherever the rest of humanity went.
If you read the first sentence of point 3, I already address this fact m8! My assertion is that the single-seater blueprint is a revision of his original intent. Our conclusions are otherwise the same.
My Theory: The ship was designed for 2 people rather than 1 (indicated by that the teddy bear by her side) and the message from her father doesn't apply that he'a actually dead. If he was smart enough to make a ship by himself, then he could've been recruited by a space company and that could explain why he can't see her.
Thats a clever theory. The dad could've easily made a capsule for both of them, but he didn't have time. It takes a crap load of time to create a fully functioning programmed capsule, that puts one human into a simulation, AND also feeds the body, and helps it progress. Making one for 2 people however would've taken 3 times the amount of time for a one person capsule. Also, if he were in a single rocket ship with other people, he wouldn't have survived for very long. Especially not for 7 years. This is just my opinion, how ever.
Onotku • but somewhere on the video shows that earth and that planet already collided so maybe her dad made code that will send her that message when she's actually mature enough to understand what her father means it's just a theory tho not sure if it's true
it was six on her birthday, then seven, so about two years and a couple months it took what hits hard is that he meant to share that space with her but found out options and time was running low to the point where he only sent her. I was expecting the dad to go with her because that would be the only way I've would've wanted to be stuck there. but rin was so young where she thought her father was going to be by her side, but forgot because he put her in a state where her memories needed to be locked away so that she wouldn't mess up the pod with her emotions. what's a possibility is that people went before her and that's why he sent her
he has a point what if rin is not the only survivor left..what if all country around the world except his dad also plan to create an capsule to protect only limited human...
Here is my own theory. I actually suspect Rin is 14 & not 17. My reason for this is due to her Birthday. I counted six candles. To add to this reasoning when we take notice of Rin's father's blueprints of the spacepod. It has Rin's age listed as 7. It's unclear if she was 7 when going into space or if she was to receive his message in 7 years. The other piece I took notice of was her tablet. It read Main-Program System RN 2066 which could be the given year. If so the latest year would have been 2066 and now the current time would be someplace in 2070. As for if she is heading someplace I believe she is due to the blueprint that reads Phase 1: Earth and then goes to Phase 2: AR07 -AR09. It has elements where more could take place. Doubt it ever will though.
DuoReview probably the simulation was made to keep her sane, to distract her from her loneliness all whilst teaching her how to be creative. maybe induced sleep would have been better however it might be that the brain cant function anymore after such a long period of being inactive. as such a simulation would be the only possibility.

I agree with most of this theory except for a small part. The idea that someday she will reach an Earth-like planet to live on. I think the actual truth is more tragic, and that's the fact that this couldn't happen. The ship had the thrust to escape the gravity of Earth and the other celestial body, but after that point, it's most likely just a drifter. Even if the ship could at some point reach another planet, Rin couldn't love there. The pod only allows her brain to function, but the rest of her body is long dead. She hasn't used any muscles or received any nourishment for seven years. It may be a form of stasis, but even then, her body grows through time. I believe the real, more tragic truth, is that Rin is in ths simulation forever. It may be an eternity. Honestly, we don't know how long she's been in there thus far. It seems she's 17 in the simulation, as her mind probably aged in that way, but we don't know if there's an endgame to this. She may stay at her desired age forever, or her mind would keep aging and growing, until such a point that her simulation body is unable to move, or her mind starts to deteriorate. Another reminder, this aging process could be entirely different from what we know. One year in the real world could be decades in the simulation. The only way her life could end would be when the ship loses functionality (it's 2055, so who knows how long the power could be sustained), or if the apparatus that holds he simulation fails. The tragedy is that Rin gets to live her life, but only in the simulation. And even then, there may come a point that she doesn't want to live, but she can't stop. The "ending" is so morally ambiguous and tragic in the way that Rin's greatest gift grom her father could later be her worst curse.
imperchaos You all need to quit making me cry, seriously. Just the fact that someone would be completely isolated from social contact is so unnerving and horrible. Honestly, I would say that the father made the wrong choice, even if he thought it was the best for his daughter.
It's a huge morally ambiguous dilemma, for sure. And trust me, I teared up writing this. I tear up thinking about this story. I love it, but hate it, but love it.
Sorry to correct you, but her body is still alive & kicking, as you can see in the video, there are little pods ( ? Tubes ? I guess ? lol. Whatever you want you want to call it. ) sticking to her body, providing her with the nutrition she needs. You can also see her muscles slowly twitch I'm pretty sure. This is due to the machine giving her little shocks to stimulate her muscles.
If a short anime music video like THIS is probably more popular than actual full-blown anime seasons, I only have one question to ask. Why hasn't Japanese Anime production companies ever thought of teaming up with people of different cultures? Props to A-1 for taking the first step to even better anime in the future.
I understand the feeling, but it's a bit harder than that due to the language and culture barrier. Still, it'd be interesting to see what the two could make together. =D
DuoReview Yeah I can see the cultural barrier being a thing, so it would be difficult to adjust to things others aren't used to whilst some are. On language however, maybe anime companies could create a translation department? I know it would cost more and all that, I was just speculating some solutions
Hellgame Productions I'm Malay. And I'm thinking about making my own anime. Called "Our Precious Memories". I'm 15 years old so I have school and stuff, but do wait for my anime to come out! I'll surely make sure it comes true!
How to get a1 to make something good: You: i got a new idea with a heartfelt story, good art, and good music A1: nope You:it has virtual reality A1: we need to make this nowwww!!!!
Here's my theory. Humanity knew that earths destruction was coming. So with the help of Rin's father they built a giant life support ship that would keep humanity in a simulation for the rest of of their lives. However Rin's family wasn't able to go on this ship because of her mothers pregnancy, so while the mojority of people left Rin's father and his wife stayed behind. Unfortunately Rin's mother died giving birth to her. Because her father new earth was going to be destroyed he used the resources available to him to build small ship for her, unfortunately he didn't have enough time to make one for himself. So as we all know he launched her into space while he stayed behind as earth was destroyed. Now at the end of the video it appears the ship has a destination, I believe this destination is the ship containing the surviving humans and when her ship gets to the large one, her fathers programming will allow it to attach to the main ship and she can then live in the simulation everyone else is living in for the rest of her life. Note: I know her father has a name but I can't remember it.
All good until you mentioned Rin's mother died by giving birth of her. She was alive holding Rin when she was a baby. No proof that her mom died in giving birth to her
I would like to think that Rin could perhaps create an AI or a companion. As it seems to me that the simulation is near limitless in what can be created. So I don't know why Rin doesn't make herself a companion.
For some reason, I can connect this to Pandora's Box. Like, Rin is Elpis (the spirit of hope) in the spaceship (box). Some people think it's impossible for her to find another planet to live in. But, *shrugs*, I see another message. It's basically just having hope in situations that seem hopeless. Takes a lot of courage. That's what Rin embodies. I think. *shrugs and flies away*
+DuoReview I totally love this video and the song.... But talking about the back history of "Shelter", I want to remark somethings... 1. The screen: On the end of the video you can see a solar system with some kind of "travel route" on one screen... I am not sure but I think it is the collision course of the earth and the planet, but if it is indeed a "travel route" of Rin's spaceship to another inhabitable planet it means she is traveling to there. 2. Her position: Rin is thrown forward, her hair is falling and she doesn't look like if she were floating in space, her feet and body looks a little thin (like a person with a disability) because may be the lack of exercise. I think she on the ship has gravity, may be not created by the ship itself but the the movement of the ship... It may be using a "constant acceleration" of 1G to provide her of a inhabitable environment and for travel. 3. The 3 years lost: Did you noticed that the time of Rin's 6th birthday, the age she would have on the spaceship and the age when she receives the her father's message doesn't match for 3 years? If you look closely, when she opens her gift you can count 6 candles, on the blueprints of the ship you can read "7 years old", but she is 17 when receives the message from her father. If she was 7 when she took off to the space and have passed 7 years, should not she be 14 or 15 not 17... where are those 3 years left?!
I was wondering about that as well, and the only explanation I could come up with was that there was a time gap between when the dad was first designing the rocket/the birthday and when she actually had to blast off, and the time difference would have been 3 years.
+6PackofRibs I though that too, but when i see the video I think is that he launched RIN before the time he was planning (because the face he does when sees the "Mirai Satellite Camera)"...
And what if she was messaging for 3 years, and after that, no contact OR What if she didn't get the want of messaging til those 3 years ended, and the want for messaging started then?
Maybe, like she was being put in chryostatis for 3 years til she was ready to reawake in simulation In otherwords, maybe it took 3 years to digitally format her memories, and such for a simulation. And if she was heading somehwere, it'd take 3 years to awake
Dream Fox srry I wouldn't watch. I fell that s the reason it's only 6 min because it's be hard to make whole series with her alone just slowly revealing things about herself and the world around her. The series would probably lose its impact over a series... that s just my option though, only because I can't think of anything else they can really add to this to keep it going. It might have been meant to just be a one hit wonder (which It was)
One time i had this song going through my head while i was asleep and i was thinling aboit all the people who lost that were very special and when i heard the part "until your gone" and that really made me cry
I have a question. Rin lives in an simulation right? In the video you can see she's in some "box" and she can't get ou of it, which you can see when the street forms (she tried to get out but she failed) But how did she managed to walk around a whole field without leaving her box? I mean, you can see her walk down a road with tree's with some kind of marsmallows or something stick to it, and you see her running on a field of grass. How?
Jada van der Heijden who Said she cant leave the Box? I think it's meant to be her room not more not less. I mean as long as you aren't a total lock-in you can leave your room too, right?
Hiyori Bell not when you are gooing the speed of light if you travel at the speed of light no time will have passed in your preception so if the ship is even traveling 1% of c time will pass slower
God I love Shelter. Heres why. If you're not interested then move along. STORY TIME. Scrolling through soundcloud. I found this AMAZING 1 minute 30 second short version of a song. Shelter. It was INCREDIBLE and i fell in love. This was October 16th. Thing is, I wanted the rest of the song. After some searching nothing came up. I eventually gave up after a while and settled for it. Then on October 19th, before school I open youtube. I didn't usually check the featured page, but I did that day. I looked around and saw a video titled Shelter. Im all "sounds familiar, that song, coincidence? its probably nothing." I clicked on it, and I then thought, "Oh! cool looks like a new anime, if i like it I can do more research!" Then the song started playing. You have NO idea the magnitude of me fangirling, internal screams, and just pure shock in that moment. I watched it, listening to the full song for the first time. Loved it. But then the end with the ship and I was confused. I went back to the beginning and rewatched it, this time pausing whenever it went fast to see the details. Long story short I ended up nearly bawling. I actually got the story 9.8/10 the second time I watched it. I just thought maybe the man was her older brother, but thats the only thing I got wrong other then google failing at translating the letter at the end. I truly LOVE not only the song but the 6 minute video. Incredible.
Personally my opinion is that we can escape in technology but feel really Lonely and that reality is always painful and sometimes it's better than knowing what is somethings definition but in those definitions it can either make us stronger and let us move on or just be trapped in the thought of those definitions so that is what is think about shelter but its just my theory don't let it influence what you think
6:30 Actually, if she was travelling near the speed of light, and 7 years passed for her, way more than 7 years will have passed in the outside world, due to relativity. This means that she could have traveled much further than 7 light years. Performing some calculations shows that if she was travelling at 99% the speed of light (reaching the speed of light is impossible), then 7 years for her would be around 50 years outside, so she could have traveled up to 50 light years, not 7. If she could travel at the absurd 99.9999999999988669% the speed of light, she could have theoretically traveled 46.5 billion light years, and reached any point in the observable universe.
The equation is this: γ = 1/(sqrt[1 - {v²/c²}]), with γ being the Lorentz factor, the factor by which time is slowed down relative to the observer. Here's a link to the equation: www.desmos.com/calculator/jpeiehjusl
The message made me cry, did you cry too? Anyway I have an explanation myself Since something was hitting earth, the dad wanted his daughter to live so he built some kind of circular thing to let her live, correct? Since she's the only one who had that thing, she was the only one to survive, and since she was the only one to survive, she had no education, job, nor even family, though that is not useful for the destruction of Earth, in the music video, she saw her past self, correct? And then she had a moment of time to see her father again, which is very emotional, but since the machinery her father made might've travel the same speed as light, her father's message was late and her father knowing it would send late, he made the message when Rin was maybe 6 or 7 years old, now in this future she is in a simulation world with a tablet, having seen the message, she felt she was not alone, and in the end, we saw what real Rin looked like, and judging by the position of her body, she was moving forward which meant she was actually travelling through space, which might've also meant that she was going somewhere That's all I could think of, the music video was very emotional, which lead everyone who watched it to tears, thanks for reading my comment, bye :)
MustacheGhostY I can see you do suck at English, let me rewrite your reply Nope, HER dad PROGRAMMED that message to HIS daughter in THE right age to understand THE message (Sorry I SUCK AT English) The caps are the one's I corrected, anyway, you have a good point
Shelter give me a strange feeling when i first watch it kinda hurts my heart when i first watch it and my heart hurts for a month im good aftet that now that i know the real meaning it hurts even more. Such a great father.
Pretty unfair to compare a short film to a long running anime . Long running animes are meant to take their time progressing the story and characters while a short film will depend on its visuals and storytelling to tell a story at a face pace. So obviously a short film will have more in terms of quality cuz well.. its short so everything will be put into it. In terms of story I personally don't think it can beat one piece or naruto but like everyone has their opinions I guess. Why the heck did I reply to a 4 year comment...
I think she's gonna live on that pod forever, Since she was in it for seven years. Her body can not stay alive by itself anymore, But even though she's lonely and gonna stay on it until she dies, She's happy because she knows what her dad did for her! But there's a map or something showing a planet, so maybe she's being sent to another planet where there's more humans or human like beings?
I think if you pay attention to the lyrics you can kind of get the picture of her Father's motivations. "I'll give them shelter like you've done for me" It's clearly a song about parental love, and an adult's promise to their parents to look after their children. The lyrics speak to a generational cycle, the idea that looking after your child and knowing they will have their own giving a kind of satisfaction, even though you will never meet your future descendants: "And they won't need to know our names or our faces/But they will carry on for us." However, Shelter's video subverts this. Whether through plague, war, or the interaction's with the falling planet, Earth is devastated, and you can see there is some sort of dome in the middle of a ruined city, where Rin and her father live. I personally choose to believe, that most of humanity died some time before Planetfall, leaving Rin, her father and possibly a few survivors in other protective domes scattered around the ruins of the planet. This is the source of the subversion of the song's intent. Rin's father is the last parent there will ever be. He sacrifices his life to give his daughter Shelter, as it's the only thing a parent can do, whether right or wrong. But he knows she will never be able to give shelter to children of her own, as she is alone. A counterargument is: "What if Rin's father sent her to a human colony/ spaceship?" If Rin's ship is incapable of faster than light (FTL) travel, she will never reach them, as they clearly had a very long, at least 7 year leadtime. If it is FTL, then why is it taking so long to reach anywhere? Besides the name of the video is Shelter, not Transport, and Rin's Shelter had no active means of propulsion in space.
My theory: the same as u until the end In the there’s a message from the dad right? Well yeah but the message kinda meant that the ship couldn’t hold her for any longer so she had to die. In the end she dies and says thank you
This is a masterpiece and has a powerful message to those that are loosing hope that they should keep going! even tho they think that they are alone out there in the world and to remember all the people that love them! What i get from this is that she knows shes alone, everyday since she was saved by her fathers love, he could have gone with her but she had more chances of survival and maybe finding a planet with the resources he could get for her knowing that he sent her out alone with that hope in mind. For years she has been alone drifting through space in a VR he made for her so she wouldint get lonely and every now and then she looses hope and has forgotten her short time and memories with her father it is then the tablet suddenly put's things in for her and by doing so she slowly remembers and when she has lost all hope the tablet takes over drawing the town she lived in showing her ,her memories of the time she spent with her father that loved her very much and what he did for her, she misses him and through out the video you can see that she yells out for him to wait as she streches out her hand trying to get to him but cant. That is when all hope was lost.. then as everything gets dark she get's her fathers message and final words which gives her hope and the will to keep going and remembers that he saved her and even tho she is all alone she wont get lonley because he will always be in her heart watching over her.
I hope someone finds her whether they are human or not. Because she needs something other than life outside the simulation. She needs another sentient creature to be there for her.
This Shelter anime is amazing i just wish they could make an anime for just a bit more things they could add like how she is surviving everyday, what she is trying to achieve and ya. I think it would be really nice if there was an anime series to this. and maybe a season 2 where there were a couple other survivors and their goal is to start a new life again in a different planet.
This made me cry so bad and I don't know why but this was really helpful so now I don't cry as much and now i know that my hypothesis was right about what it meant
why does everyone have a hard time understanding what happens in this video? the number of people who have gotten anywhere close is way smaller than it should be...
Well since some people can't I made this video to help. So then they can figure it out. Not everyone is quite as skilled at this stuff, so that's typically the reason why.
DuoReview I wouldn't say you got it 100% either, tbh. But closer than lots of people. I showed someone the video and they asked if rin was a robot, like wtf...
Tesla Haxz- I know, right. It took me at least one watch to get the backbone of the story, and after few more watches, you start to notice the little things, and you watch it more and start to come up with different theories and possible outcomes. I think that's the beauty of Shelter, Rin can have millions upon millions of different live based around what different people think will happen. She could end up on a new planet with people, or she could very well be the last human like Finn. Or she could be forever stuck in the simulation, drifting in space for the rest of her life (though, I'm still trying to decide if that's the case myself. She has a map in her ship and she seems to be on her way somewhere). Or, you could get crazy and theorize that this is the whole reason why Earth doesn't exist anymore in Star Wars and why people are just scattered among the stars. But, Let's be honest here, if one man can built a ship to save his daughter, there are literally thousands of other humans who could think up the same thing. I'd even go as far to say that she'll meet other people soon that were in the same situation she was on another world. Sorta like CW's The Hundred.
when ever any idea of loneliness comes up in this way it brakes my heart in multiple ways. it doesn't just give feel for the character but giving me a feeling that could fuel depression for an eternity. . . its just a sad concept and to be honest i wouldnt wish this kind of fate on any one not even the most evil of souls . . . it goes with out saying that this is one of my deepest fears losing or worse finding out everything ive come to no is fake . . . ( through out typing this ive actually been holding back alot of tears )
So like many others, I believe Rin has been in the space pod for 10 years. One of the things I noticed was it said that there were no messages in 7 years, so it's possible that she had received a message, or multiple messages, during the first three years in space. Another possible scenario is that the simulation itself started after she was in space for three years, so therefore the message box would have started receiving messages after the 3 years.
A very interesting thing to notice is how the virtual landscapes she draws get progressively more surreal. - - She starts with 'regular' places, like a cozy room and a landscape with hills, trees and rivers. - Then she takes herself to icy lands with aurora borealis, and runs around on a fiel, where rocks surge from the flood beneath her feet, as she jumps. - Next up she shows up in a beautiful rainy bamboo forest, and in this fantastical crystal island with a blue-red background. - Then she's in a bathtub with her tablet half-sunk (*hint hint* it's not real, viewers :D) and goes right off to crazy things like an apocalyptic landscape and this dream-like black-white-red place where trees grow cubes. It's like she's almost losing contact with reality. And that's when the message kicks in, she sees all her past memories and we got the ending. Bonus points for them showing us how the father notices how much she likes to draw :)
Shelter tells the story of Rin, a 17-year-old girl who lives her life inside of a futuristic simulation completely by herself in infinite, beautiful loneliness. Each day, Rin awakens in virtual reality and uses a tablet which controls the simulation to create a new, different, beautiful world for herself. Until one day, everything changes, and Rin comes to learn the true origins behind her life inside a simulation.
I'm glad you were here to explain this. I'm really not good at understanding artsy stuff despite being really quite smart, but I knew there was a lot here packed into such a short show. Thank you! Also, despite having been around on UA-cam since quite early on (50,000 subs was the highest in all of Britain), I'd never found I channel I just HAD to subscribe to until this one.
No matter what theories would be conveyed, the fact that Rin's father sacrificed his time, effort and dedication to let her continue living even if meant for her to be alone.... is extremely sad :(
Eh even I can read it WITHOUT a translation Just kidding... Barely... I love you Eh... Shouts out to Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan, Rush hour... and Rush hour 2 references...
can't wait for porter and madeon to make another song that's a follow up to shelter to people wanting more of this sound, there was a leak of their tour files and songs they made together during the time of shelter presumably: praise for that and osttt
If the pod was moving anywhere near the speed it would need to to reach another star before she was very old, then it would visibly warp the space around it. The pod looked mostly stationary. There would be no point to sending her somewhere with no other people since there would be nothing left for her outside the pod in that case. It's easy to determine that there was no life on other planets yet, since she was in the only pod attempting to leave Earth. If there were extraterrestrial colonies, then this sort of travel would have been attainable to more people.
I have never seen this short before since i only got into anime and manga in 2021😢 i saw a post by CR talking about it and was so confused why everyone was being sad in the comments until i saw your video. Really good stuff. There is so much i am still discovering in anime
Dude.. she was 7 when she escape earth.. You can see her age at 3:57 in Shelter video... so she's in space for 10 earth years.. i think the simulator activated 3 years before the distraction of earth.. Ow yeah! ever wonder why the places that Rin and her father visit still looks good even though that at the news the world is in apocalyptic state? My theory to that is both of them are in a simulation(i think?) i want to hear your thoughts on my theory..
This is a great theory! If Film Theory did it, it would be cool but this theory is great! This is my theory about the story (Maybe a lot of you know this, and good job to* imperchaos* for the great theory about a more different question about the story) In the start, there is a girl named Rin, we see her in her room which is actually a simulation. Later on, we notice that she is alone because she has not been getting any messages from literally anybody. She gets really sad that the fact that she is alone but everyday she gets her tablet to create different worlds in the simulation. Later on she gets flashbacks when she was a kid but just for a few seconds until she runs around again. But, later on Rin receives a random simulation that she did not create at all, later on she realizes that the simulation she is in is a memory of her when she was a child. She falls down into her tragic and happy memories and she gets worried and sad because of all that has happened to her, She is overwhelmed by everything she is seeing, until she gains strength to move forward into the future because of her memories and she gets a message by an unknown person, and we see her alone in space and in the flashbacks, we see her dad putting her into the spaceship, her dad sacrifices himself for Rin by putting her into deep sleep and she is dreaming alone in space, dreaming about her new world but then i realize something, the WIRES, the wires are connecting to her so that means that her dad put her into the simulation with the spaceship as seen by him designing the spaceship, and by doing so, he protects her beloved daughter, Rin, and everyday in her life, she is doing the same thing over and over and over again, but she is happy because as i said, she is getting determination to keep on hoping that the future will be something different, something beautiful and that is the end of Rin's story in Shelter, Who knows what might happen, there might be a series but i doubt it but i really hope that there is more to this story, it is so beautiful and inspiring and the fact that the creators got in contact with a Japanese Animation Studio is just crazy! I hope you liked my theory and the story for Shelter, i will see you guys and girls later! (Time to watch the video after minutes of writing this theory) Again, good job *imperchaos* on that other theory with more different and rather deep questions. Great Theory!
Fucking ruined it!!!! it was so perfect until you mentioned the "moving at the speed of light" part and alpha centauri part... the star is too hot and does not have any proper planets in it's goldilock zone... any object with mass cannot travel at the speed of light and the show was based relatively in the near future, with almost the same technology so the pod with it's size would not have enough energy to get to even 70% light speed let alone stop when it reaches where ever. The closest know habitable planet is keplar-452b and it's like a 1000 light years away so nop! so it would take her atleast 1001 years to get there. The final cut shows that the pod is still or not moving veryfast.... anyways great video! keep it up!

it's just a short film

Technically it's a cartoon short film from japan.
BeefyComet I mean you will really know that it's anime by the designs of Characters, You will Consider Doreamon as an Anime, And you will consider Spirited Away as an Anime, I mean I mean if you said Anime it doesn't refer if it was Many episode, Just the Character design
Imagine if these people who created this made a full pledged show.

Some details you missed;
Some details you missed;
1. It's anime.
2. It's anime.
When he sends her off I think it's to go to wherever the rest of humanity went.
wow you must be fun at partys
Onotku •
but somewhere on the video shows that earth and that planet already collided
so maybe her dad made code that will send her that message when she's actually mature enough to understand what her father means
it's just a theory tho
not sure if it's true
it was six on her birthday, then seven, so about two years and a couple months it took what hits hard is that he meant to share that space with her but found out options and time was running low to the point where he only sent her.
The space company would’ve wanted to save their own asses than someone else’s child so I don’t think they’d help
my shelter theory: it's fucking amazing. the end :3
That's not a theory, it's a fact. =D
its not a fact either, its a hypothesis =D
its not a hypothesis either, its an evaluation! =D
LOL
No human contact for about seven years !!!!!
That would be horrible honestly. I don't know how she didn't go crazy.
That messed up
DuoReview probably the simulation was made to keep her sane, to distract her from her loneliness all whilst teaching her how to be creative. maybe induced sleep would have been better however it might be that the brain cant function anymore after such a long period of being inactive. as such a simulation would be the only possibility.

The "ending" is so morally ambiguous and tragic in the way that Rin's greatest gift grom her father could later be her worst curse.
wow...great thought mate 😞
imperchaos You all need to quit making me cry, seriously.
I love it, but hate it, but love it.
imperchaos Exactly!! That's exactly how I feel about this story as well lol my emotions are just all over the place
To be fair, Japan barely knows that there's a market of anime fans in other countries honestly.
Hellgame Productions I'm Malay. And I'm thinking about making my own anime. Called "Our Precious Memories". I'm 15 years old so I have school and stuff, but do wait for my anime to come out! I'll surely make sure it comes true!
This anime music is better with this length, it's more powerful and full of feelings

*SAO Reference*
*is that a jojo reference?!*
I guess that could be possible as well. =D
Cool theory. I wonder what Rin's father's name is too.
All good until you mentioned Rin's mother died by giving birth of her. She was alive holding Rin when she was a baby. No proof that her mom died in giving birth to her
Maybe she had difficulties and died just after they got the photo

Emm... Who? Don't even bother answering, ill find out :P
Off
I mean oof
And what if she was messaging for 3 years, and after that, no contact
OR
What if she didn't get the want of messaging til those 3 years ended, and the want for messaging started then?
Agent1Gaming I have been thinking that maybe she was on a "coma" and then "wake up" on the "matrix" of the ship and began to live there
Maybe, like she was being put in chryostatis for 3 years til she was ready to reawake in simulation
In otherwords, maybe it took 3 years to digitally format her memories, and such for a simulation. And if she was heading somehwere, it'd take 3 years to awake
"Mildly sad story"
I LITERALLY BALLED MY EYES OUT WHILE WATCHING IT
They should make a 12 episode anime out of this six minutes long anime
A lot of people would agree with that. =D
Trueeeeee
Dream Fox srry I wouldn't watch. I fell that s the reason it's only 6 min because it's be hard to make whole series with her alone just slowly revealing things about herself and the world around her. The series would probably lose its impact over a series... that s just my option though, only because I can't think of anything else they can really add to this to keep it going. It might have been meant to just be a one hit wonder (which It was)
*sorry But I mean you have a point
Yup ur right
One time i had this song going through my head while i was asleep and i was thinling aboit all the people who lost that were very special and when i heard the part "until your gone" and that really made me cry
Jada van der Heijden it might have to do with something like sending signals to her nerves and brain
Jada van der Heijden the wires in her head
its an endless box...
It all happens in her mind, sweetheart. That's what a simulation is for.
This rushes so much thoughts into my brain, thanks for explaining to all of us throughout your opinion.
I'm glad it helped. =D
Time moves faster in space that's why Rin's 17

Im all "sounds familiar, that song, coincidence? its probably nothing." I clicked on it, and I then thought, "Oh! cool looks like a new anime, if i like it I can do more research!"
Then the song started playing.
Incredible.
To be honest, I just found it because it was being recommended to me by everyone. XD
*(freaks that senpai noticed me)* *(fails at being chill about it and texts all anime lovers I know about this phenomenon)*

Anyway I have an explanation myself
Since something was hitting earth, the dad wanted his daughter to live so he built some kind of circular thing to let her live, correct? Since she's the only one who had that thing, she was the only one to survive, and since she was the only one to survive, she had no education, job, nor even family, though that is not useful for the destruction of Earth, in the music video, she saw her past self, correct? And then she had a moment of time to see her father again, which is very emotional, but since the machinery her father made might've travel the same speed as light, her father's message was late and her father knowing it would send late, he made the message when Rin was maybe 6 or 7 years old, now in this future she is in a simulation world with a tablet, having seen the message, she felt she was not alone, and in the end, we saw what real Rin looked like, and judging by the position of her body, she was moving forward which meant she was actually travelling through space, which might've also meant that she was going somewhere
That's all I could think of, the music video was very emotional, which lead everyone who watched it to tears, thanks for reading my comment, bye :)

Ok that’s very overboard
The fact that every anime needs a movie or series to entertain people
But when Shelter came out 🤷
I think if you pay attention to the lyrics you can kind of get the picture of her Father's motivations. "I'll give them shelter like you've done for me" It's clearly a song about parental love, and an adult's promise to their parents to look after their children. The lyrics speak to a generational cycle, the idea that looking after your child and knowing they will have their own giving a kind of satisfaction, even though you will never meet your future descendants: "And they won't need to know our names or our faces/But they will carry on for us."
However, Shelter's video subverts this.
A counterargument is: "What if Rin's father sent her to a human colony/ spaceship?"
If Rin's ship is incapable of faster than light (FTL) travel, she will never reach them, as they clearly had a very long, at least 7 year leadtime. If it is FTL, then why is it taking so long to reach anywhere? Besides the name of the video is Shelter, not Transport, and Rin's Shelter had no active means of propulsion in space.
My theory: the same as u until the end
In the there’s a message from the dad right? Well yeah but the message kinda meant that the ship couldn’t hold her for any longer so she had to die. In the end she dies and says thank you
um you're actually wrong
That is when all hope was lost.. then as everything gets dark she get's her fathers message and final words which gives her hope and the will to keep going and remembers that he saved her and even tho she is all alone she wont get lonley because he will always be in her heart watching over her.
they should make a part 2 of this, idk why but the possibility of many theories being right at the same time just bothers me i need closure dammit
LOL I'm fine regardless of what happens. =D
I understand the feeling, but I personally think it should stay this way. Makes it kind of special. =D
i really hope that shelter could have an anime than just a short story
The interpretation is amazing. Thanks a lot for uploading this. The feels after finally getting the true essence of the anime ❤😍
I'm glad you enjoyed it. =D
This made me cry so bad and I don't know why but this was really helpful so now I don't cry as much and now i know that my hypothesis was right about what it meant
why does everyone have a hard time understanding what happens in this video? the number of people who have gotten anywhere close is way smaller than it should be...
Tesla Haxz ikr
Well since some people can't I made this video to help. So then they can figure it out. Not everyone is quite as skilled at this stuff, so that's typically the reason why.
Tesla Haxz true like even porter said exactly what it was about too ??
DuoReview I wouldn't say you got it 100% either, tbh. But closer than lots of people. I showed someone the video and they asked if rin was a robot, like wtf...
Tesla Haxz-
I know, right.
Ii really think that the message trigger when she reach a determinate age, but honestly, i like more your optimistic interpretation.
The description says she's 17, and the number of days is 7 years. That's why I think it's 7 years.
Thank you when i watch the original video i didnt cry but now i know the meaning of the video i cry like 2 hours or something thank you
The story:
Me crying
The end
if this were an anime i would try and watch every last second of it...
at least- if i stopped crying
Shelter tells the story of Rin, a 17-year-old girl who lives her life inside of a futuristic simulation completely by herself in infinite, beautiful loneliness. Each day, Rin awakens in virtual reality and uses a tablet which controls the simulation to create a new, different, beautiful world for herself. Until one day, everything changes, and Rin comes to learn the true origins behind her life inside a simulation.
The father was galaxy brain to do even one of these things. He did all of them.
*DIMENSIONAL BRAIN!*
No...
*MULTIDIMENSIONAL BRAIN!!*
So true 😂😂
i got an ad of ppap lol
What? XD
Trygalion Gamming Sans?!
He sent her to space just to make her live. awww what a great dad.
This does not need to be explained. it's self explanatory.
Glad this video helped you, and also I'm glad you chose me to subscribe to. =D
No matter what theories would be conveyed, the fact that Rin's father sacrificed his time, effort and dedication to let her continue living even if meant for her to be alone.... is extremely sad :(
Ya know even though this is from 4 years ago...... I WISH THERE WAS A MOVIE OF THIS 💓
How did he know what the message said?
Found a translation.
Eh really? R u that dumb
Eh even I can read it WITHOUT a translation
Just kidding... Barely... I love you Eh... Shouts out to Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan, Rush hour... and Rush hour 2 references...
Tri Rain Are you ignorant?
JüniperPale no not really
can't wait for porter and madeon to make another song that's a follow up to shelter
to people wanting more of this sound, there was a leak of their tour files and songs they made together during the time of shelter presumably: praise for that and osttt
Your intro saying thing reminds me a lot of Game Theory
Good theory htw
Thanks! =D
shoot
btw*
If the pod was moving anywhere near the speed it would need to to reach another star before she was very old, then it would visibly warp the space around it. The pod looked mostly stationary.
There would be no point to sending her somewhere with no other people since there would be nothing left for her outside the pod in that case. It's easy to determine that there was no life on other planets yet, since she was in the only pod attempting to leave Earth. If there were extraterrestrial colonies, then this sort of travel would have been attainable to more people.
SEEKING TO A LIVING PLANET: MUSIC SQUEAL?
LOL XD
I've loved this short since it came out but never knew what the message she received toward the end said, so thanks for that!
I watch the m/v like 900000000000000 times
Shelter made me cry and remember that life is a beautiful to never take for granted
Hello ladies and gentlemen and welcome to Game Th-i mean Anime Theory XD
Make this into a TV series
Wonderful explanation, thank you. But this is so sad . 😭
Well, glad you enjoyed it. =D
DuoReview SJENAHR YOU REPLIED!!! Thank you!!
I love the retro future diary theme opening you played for your opening!
your theory is good
Thanks! =D
DuoReview how do you know what the message says? It's too small for me to make out
Get Rekt get glasses mate
Unknown 210
THE THEORY IS HORIBLE IT SAYS IT AL IN THE DESC OF THE VIDEO
My reaction was sad at first but after someone point out that there is a trajectory map near the end of the mv warms my heart 😊😊😊
how can she survived without eating for 7years ?
That's a good question. I assumed it was force-fed through some of those wires. XD
u might wanna look into something called "hibernation"
Hibernation for 7 years is a bit far-fetched.
she got everything she needed through those cable thingies c: or wires. or whatever they're called.
EpicLinkSam When you said Hyper-sleep, my mind constantly racing to that certain scene from Big Hero 6 where Baymax and Hiro found Abigail :'0
I have never seen this short before since i only got into anime and manga in 2021😢 i saw a post by CR talking about it and was so confused why everyone was being sad in the comments until i saw your video. Really good stuff. There is so much i am still discovering in anime
when i watched this vid, i remember my dad and i miss my dad. i cried
sorry if my english are bad
It's alright. =D
DuoReview thanks :)
I think you forgot to add that her memories began to quietly leak images such as the swing set which she didn't recognized from her tablet...
Yeah, that did happen, but she didn't truly remember everything until the sudden town appearing.
Indeed...
I cried 2 much to hate this😢
How can anybody hate this anime?
It's amazing ☺
I cry every time I watch it
Uploaded on my birthday :)
Wow, that's cool! =D
Zera - Chan Happy b-day!
Zera - Chan you don't have a birthday, you are simply a figment of someone's imagination. I don't even know how I see your comment right now.
Andrew K looks like someone is in their experimental phase XD
ghostlyrumor lol
She's DREAMING all of those in the spaceship!
You need way more subscribers dude way more
Thanks! =D
If shelter was anime series I would have been binge watching it all the time tbh
Dude.. she was 7 when she escape earth..
They could be in a simulation I guess, but IDK it sounds like a stretch. XD
It could also be that the places they visit where before the aplocalypse thing was announced or something
I just wished there was a series that would make shelter make sense to me and the fans...
But there never was like the ending
Free or Noragami
Usual Suspects norigami
Usual Suspects although i dont want to choose... noragami
what's norigami 😂
i really really have no idea what it is...explanation pls ?
I think u mean Noragami and it's an anime
shelter is one of my favorite anime videos. SUCH AN AMAZING STORY. I LOVE IT SO MUCH!
Ok goodnight into the next vid ok
im inloved with this like really, i want it to have an extended version like a small movie
how is she there--- but then she's in the pod?
Wxnteria Virtual simulation.
Wxnteria
To me it seems like she's in some sort of coma
This is a great theory!
If Film Theory did it, it would be cool but this theory is great!
This is my theory about the story (Maybe a lot of you know this, and good job to* imperchaos* for the great theory about a more different question about the story)
In the start, there is a girl named Rin, we see her in her room which is actually a simulation.
She falls down into her tragic and happy memories and she gets worried and sad because of all that has happened to her,
She is overwhelmed by everything she is seeing, until she gains strength to move forward into the future because of her memories and she gets a message by an unknown person, and we see her alone in space and in the flashbacks, we see her dad putting her into the spaceship, her dad sacrifices himself for Rin by putting her into deep sleep and she is dreaming alone in space, dreaming about her new world but then i realize something, the WIRES, the wires are connecting to her so that means that her dad put her into the simulation with the spaceship as seen by him designing the spaceship, and by doing so, he protects her beloved daughter, Rin, and everyday in her life, she is doing the same thing over and over and over again, but she is happy because as i said, she is getting determination to keep on hoping that the future will be something different, something beautiful and that is the end of Rin's story in Shelter, Who knows what might happen, there might be a series but i doubt it but i really hope that there is more to this story, it is so beautiful and inspiring and the fact that the creators got in contact with a Japanese Animation Studio is just crazy!
The final cut shows that the pod is still or not moving veryfast....
anyways great video! keep it up!
forgive my grammar

Ridheesh 47 wow very triggered I see, but this is his own interpretation so yea😂
Rustle Eroi having an interpretation and getting very basic science wrong is different.
If my interpretation of the world is that it is flat.. what does that make it?
Shut up, I know I am contradicting myself and I'm stupid.. sorry ill leave myself out
I'm not saying you're wrong dude, people have its own opinion, even the basic idea is wrong, or he's research gone wrong at some point, its his own. he even said it.
He's not pushing it to us.
Shelter has made me cry, even a little bit, every single time.
Yea.
I admit it.
This has made me cry every time, that being the 10+ times I've watched it.
i under standed it frome the first time ive seen it
