    I have never opened my McKinley. The clarifier was dead center right out of the box. If I need more power that is what the linear is for. They are very good radios from the factory.

    Lol heard the ebay chime and I got all excited and quickly opened my eBay app to find no new notifications etc. and quickly realized it was in the background of your video. I'm such a sad ebay junkie.....Thanks for the educational videos from a recent subscriber.

    Well, I left the clarifier alone. Was accurate from factory. If the dudes you talk too can't adjust the clarifiers to a service manual, they should send it to Mike or a tech who can. This stops the" dance" of guys up and down in a group conversation.

    I'm no tech like you but I enjoy performing basic mods on my own gear and it's amazing the kinds of things I've seen people do with SMT components, like using needle nose pliers to literally break diodes and resistors off the board, rather than desolder and remove them properly. Years ago I purchase a used METCAL hand iron station and SMT tweezer station with replaceable tips and I have every type of tip made for this system and there's not much I can't do, save for BGA, but I learned different solder repair styles using old throwaway laptops, CD players, etc. Basically anything people were throwing away I could practice on, until I was proficient but it takes practice, Practice, PRACTICE and the right solder equipment.

      What is the range of the clarifier above and below the channel frequency? For example, I would like to be on channel 37 (27.375), but "slide" down to 27.370. Thanks.

    In all the videos on unlocking the clarifier in the McKinley I can't find anybody saying why it needs to be unlocked ? It doesn't do what is supposed to do out of the box?

      I'm with you there. I've never felt the need to unlock my clarifiers. My radios all work the way they came from the factory and they work great.

    I’m new to the cb world and just upgraded to a Mckinley radio. Do all mckinley radios come out of the factory with the clarifier locked?

    • @mikesradiorepair
      @mikesradiorepair  3 роки тому +3

      Any FCC certified radio sold in the USA has a "locked" clarifier. That's mandated by the FCC to get certification.

      @@mikesradiorepair certification as for HAM license?

    • @mikesradiorepair
      @mikesradiorepair  3 роки тому +3

      @@locotico71 No, to sell a legal CB radio in the USA it has to meet FCC technical standards for Part 95D radios. One of those specifications (95.965 to be exact) states that the transmit frequency must be within 50 parts per million. If the transmit frequency was adjustable by the user it wouldn't meet this specification. The only thing that is adjustable by the user from the outside of the radio is the receive frequency, hence the "locked" clarifier.

    I think that if a transceiver uses SMD's don't even think about opening it just get an electronic engineer like Mike to do the mod for you, I think that UNIDEN need to go the whole hog and implement the whole of the low frequency subsystem as DSP processor, ROM module , duel ADC/DAC chips and do all processing using high school maths you know sine,cosine,atan,atan2 you know what I am getting at and just tell the user to go through the menu tree to get at the clarifier unlock menu item and have done with it.

    • @mikesradiorepair
      @mikesradiorepair  6 років тому +1

      If it could be done through a menu then a radio would never pass FCC certification.
