Correction.. in SPAN mode 'on' the frequency steps are as follows.. 0.1 -- 1 -- 10 -- 100 -- 1000 khz steps. and in multinorm the radio only gives you 10khz and 100khz steps, thank you.

Me too .. most electronic circuit boards are surface mount components nowadays, in other words everything is soldered on one side, like say a capacitor has legs on it and on old electronics those legs get poked through the little holes on a circuit board and soldered from the other side, but new surface mount components are all soldered to the board on one side, i think i explained that in a way you can understand lol xx

Just to clarify...this is the EU model of the McKinley.
The McKinley USA is a different animal for North America only, that looks the same, but is not.
There's no comparison, and this video covers only the McKinley EU.
I have both. The USA model is a great 40 channel radio for US and Canada 'CB' only. It is not modifiable for anything other than unlocking the clarifier, which requires realignment of the radio. I do not recommend doing it. (Ya just can't find good techs anymore). The frequency range of the USA model cannot be extended or expanded. It is one of the best North American AM/SSB 'CB' radios available today. The EU model however, is like a mini President Lincoln, IMO.
Awesome EU AM/FM/SSB transceiver right outta the box, for the EU... but for North America it's a mini beast when expanded. More like the Lincoln's little brother than the McKinley USA's paternal twin.
Watch "Mike'sRadioRepair" on UA-cam for good information on the McKinley USA.

    • @DeltaXray444

Hi Leigh, it is strange how the band's are sequenced on President radios, A is not normally where you would find the mids. All you need to do is swap the mid band where D band is I think, I find it difficult myself and have to keep referring back to the frequency chart.. I'm not sure why President do this, even when widebanded the VCO mode doesn't follow the usual track of frequencies, best bet is to either Google a frequency chart and download or purchase a frequency chart, that's what I did. I'm just glad the UK forty can be accessed easy by holding in the F button instead of using two bands to cover the UK forty.. just to let you know it confuses me too.. it may be better for me to explain it on a video.. ill work on it.. have you had yours modified yet ?

Hi Digger X, My call sign was registered at Universal CB in Nottingham with the official Delta X-ray club around that time yes, it's been a while so i cannot remember if they were called the skip shooters but it does sound familiar, the address for Universal CB was PO Box 40 for my location, and all the Delta X-ray call signs were connected to the same list up and down the country so i would imagine it was the same official Delta X-ray club..
There's not many of the OG's around now.. i hear a few Delta X-rays every now and then it's good to hear them still dxing.
When i was allocated my first number you had the option to change it if another number wasn't taken, so my very first radio in 1978 was a colt 444 120 channel AM rig.. i asked if i could have triple 4 and as it was early days and they obliged accordingly and I've had it since then, i am also registered on ClusterDX.com with my call sign too.

I have all iterations of the McKinley. I like the latest export version the best. I've been a ham since 1973 and have had gobs of CB's and export rigs.
I just wish the McKinley had CW capability. The only modern export radio with a workable CW circuit is the 29xx series. The other ones suffer buffering and only work with an external keyer. Seems like all manufacturers just copy the same design.
Exports usually have a better NB than entry level ham rigs. They do a good jog on uncorrelated noise.
I really like this radio, though. It's very nice.

    • @DeltaXray444
      @DeltaXray444 2 роки тому +1

Hi Mark.. can i say the McKinley in my experience of owning many export radios is definitely one of the best performing radio's in my collection, i cannot fault it as an export model..
But i will add that out of the box they are sold as a ten meter radio, but in my opinion are really a cb radio and not an HF set.. although they cover the ten meter band the McKinley only really can be appreciated once it has been widebanded.. thats if you like a cb radio that covers ten, eleven, and twelve meters.. the receive is excellent and the options it has make it an awesome radio.. i do agree with you though that there are many radios out there with very similar functionality, but President do make a good radio at the moment and are certainly worth having over other similar radios..
Yes you would think they would have included CW.. i also own the President Lincoln 2 plus version 3 which does cover CW and with a paddle plugged in does work well on CW..
I cant really split the McKinley or Lincoln on options or performance as they are two excellent radio's.. i hear what others say about these radio's but i like to make my own mind up.. if i listened to most people's views on radio gear id be scratching my head as what to buy.. if a rig work's well for me I'll give it kudos regardless of what others say .. we all have our opinions but like others im not bias or either a Yasue, Kenwood, or Icom guy i have no favourites so if a radio works well i will always give it credit.. i have a fully filtered Yasue dx10 and i wouldn't say it works any better on receive than the McKinley they seem to both work good and as long as i get contacts on both and other stations can hear me thats fine by me.. i think people say a lot about radio gear yet have never owned or used certain equipment yet will call it out because they read something or their mate didn't like it so all of a sudden an opinion is formulated and a radio becomes rubbish because it has a knob in a position they don't like..
The McKinley is an excellent radio and after forty years on the air i can say its one of the best ive used on the bands it covers for what sort of radio it is.. i guess its in that category that's half way between an HF set and a cb radio.. like many other radios sold today. Have a good day and 73

Also the radio works with Span mode so depending how it's set up just by turning the channel selector you can move in 1KC increments on any frequency.. so it will get into all splits.. hope this helps.. but im sorry I couldn't tell you exactly how far the clarifier moves.

Hi Desmond.. This radio here is the new European President McKinley EU model which has all the new features including seven different screen colour's, take a look in the description under the video for all the statistics.. this radio will cover everything and more for the European and American frequencies.. out of the box it is solely a ten meter radio.. with this simple modification of cutting the wire and moving the peg over it opens it up to everything.
The American model has no modification like this one..
Also this radio when the mod is done covers just about every frequency there is across ten eleven and twelve meters and covers just about more frequencies than any other radio on the market .. 24.715 to 30.105 on all bands.

Yes it will . The USA version is slightly different from the USA model, I would suggest doing some research online and look at some videos where others have wide banded the American version, I'm almost sure you get all the added extras and frequencies.. on the USA version you have weather button we don't have that on the European model. There are some other slight differences too but I'm not familiar enough with the American model.. if possible it would be better to order the European model as its standard issue to have speech processing on our model.. hope this helps you.

Oh my, I like this President McKinley radio. I like the circuit board and pegs and switches and knobs and dials and the lingo of MHZ and Bandwidth Oh 10 Watts with a Whistle - very good. Most get only 4 watts but you get 20 ? 25 even that is phenomenal ! I must confess that I am an Alpha channel but I might consider renaming Bands. Lets see......Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin, Billy Ray Cyrus, Journey, Billy Idol, Limp Biskit, and Tears For Fears. OK Carry on.....Well I'm not too sure about decreasing power on the sideband to 2 Watts. I mean WHY ? If ya got it flaunt it. As far as khz steps I can go from, 0.1 to 100 in 6 seconds in my Honda Prelude. It's a little car with a BIG engine you see ? Oh I like MANY options and expand away....Thank you Glenny, was MOST informative.

I'm not 100% sure, I think it's the signal wire which tells the main chip to allow for wide banding/exporting the radio to open the gate to the peg that is moved across to allow extra bands and power.. but please don't quote me on that as I'm no expert technician and not sure, when I purchased the radio I had the seller on the phone to me giving me instructions on how to put the radio into export mode, it should have arrived to me already wide banded so he gave me the instructions on the phone as I did the modification with him.
