Excellent! Thank you.
Greetings,
Thank you for this video! Always great to learn!
I grew up right down the road from there across the street from the truck stop
Allegedly the town was originally called Newberry Springs and the Springs was dropped. Margaret just brought it back.
She was born and raised in Indiana and attended DePauw University. Her husband was from Colorado. They lived in California and had a chinchilla farm. Mr. Orcutt died in a small plane crash in Iowa in '49 or '50. She came to Newberry in 1953.
Thank you again for your video! Good stuff!
Thanks for the information! It is quite a story.
My father William H. Smith was an early Newberry homesteader, who worked making Mrs. Orcutt’s lake just before his retirement. Good job Paul.
I stopped there on my way to LA. Got up to 60mph on the driveway. The house is half fallen down. It looks to have been a sweet homestead way back when
I've been out to her place twice now and I find it so fascinating.
Great informative video too.
I wonder are there any pictures of her place or of her while she was alive?
None I have seen. Kind of really private place.
You should check out the house on the hill farther back past that it is a crazy home

Outstanding!!!! Learned so much… you didn’t step on MRS Orrcutt’s toes 👍🏼🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thank you guys so much for doing this.
Our pleasure. Hope to do more with Paul in the future.
Thanks for the interesting video, a follow up for me from watching Wonderhussy! 18:25 😊
I've gone down a rabbit hole of videos about this property over the last few days and this is far and away the most detailed and most interesting.
Thanks alot. Paul is our defacto local historian. I was glad to have him do it.
Great work Andy! Really nice to see Paul Deel, an old friend of mine.
I hope to do more with Paul in the future.
Very informative just like Huell Howser.
Huell was the best!
are there any vintage pictures of her home and sorrounding before she passed?
Sure wish a movie biography. Be it long or short , highlight this fine lady's legacy of spirit and pistols never be forgotten 🔥💎☯️🎯💪☝️✌️🙏🤔 , thanks for the more in-depth story, of Paul Deels true account...👍🎸😔
I wonder if she ever knew Walking George who was an engineer at the mine in Boron and also lived out in the desert playing piano music
I'm surprised there aren't any photographs of Margaret Orcutt and her house and property.
Me too. There isn't much out there.
How did she call for help if she couldn’t get up?
She died in 1984. Cordless telephones existed back then. She probably had one.
Newbury springs sun club?
No, the Sunclub was off of Silver Valley.
Perhaps leaving out the details of her fall would of been more respectful. But there again I understand the mentality of the people in and around Barstow.
Where is she buried?
Not sure, probably not in Newberry Springs.
The exasperation of the interviewer was *very* offputting. Not very Huell Howser.
I agree, It's like the impatient city guy tries to read into everything and making crap up instead of letting the old timer tell the actual story. Most so called UA-cam adventurer/ explorers are like that theying to figure things out they know nothing about.
