While this is a super long video it is SOO helpful, I am learning the keyboard while its being shipped to me which will make its arrival day alot more fun. It sort of makes you wonder why EVERY keyboard company does not create a video like this I am sick of a "tutorial" video that is 15 minutes long and doesnt cover 1/4 of the features. Great job man.

Yes the SX900 is intimidating because it is loaded with so much but there is no hurry to learn it all at once. Take your time and I think it will be worth the expense. Cheers.
Great tutorial covering all the aspects of the PSR-SX900. Having recently purchased this keyboard I found your tutorial useful. You might want to think about splitting the tutorial into its component parts so that if (for example), I can't remember how the assignable keys can be assigned, I can find this little bit of tutorial with ease. Nice work and thank you.
Thank you very much for your comment! I’m glad that this tutorial has helped you in getting to know how to use the functionalities of this keyboard, it is a great keyboard for the price, and it almost of the same sound quality as the flagship Genos, have fun with your SX900. Thanks for watching!

Thank you very much for your comment! I’m glad this tutorial has helped you in getting to know how to use this keyboard, it’s a great mid range keyboard with lots some of the sounds and styles from the Genos and at an affordable price. Thanks for watching and sorry for the late reply!
Very nice and useful video. I bought this machine very recently. This is certainly a very intimidating machine. If you are newbie, you WILL spend most of the time trying to figure out how it works. I’m working it for days and I think I just know only a percentage of the capability of the machine.
I'm thinking about buying this keyboard... thanks so much for all the info and demonstrations, you did an really excellent job... incredibly helpful!!👍 It really is the keyboard I've literally dreamed of many years ago, but it didn't exist. I'm thrilled to see it's finally materialized! 😎

Great video! Lots of examples and variations. One question... when you were creating the Style from scratch, why is there not a global quantize parameter? I would think this would save time rather than having to quantize every time.
I’ve got to be honest, although this tutorial was a little bit schizophrenic to say the least, it is at the same time one of the most informative ones that I have yet to find on the internet
I've seen how you got to the GM sounds at about 1:27:00, nice way :) Any chance of sharing the folder in the extra filesection down below here? Dont have a Tyros, but could sure use the easy acces so I can still play them.
Hi Michael! Love your video. Love that you're so detailed and don't wiz through things and leave me behind in the dust! I just got my PSRSX900 and wow does it rock! Unfortunately the organ modulation/slow/fast doesn't work properly. I make sure I'm playing an organ when I use it. The joystick works and bends the sound when I move it around but the sound never changes from slow to fast and the lights don't change colors when I move the joystick up and down. I guess I"ll have to return it even though it just arrived today. Unless you can tell me something that perhaps I'm not doing right. Thanks!
Hi Michael, I thought I'd already subscribed when asking you a question. Now I'm a subscriber and I figured out the organ thingy. Hint guys, if you can't get the organ controller to work make sure you are playing the right voice (1, 2, or 3) to hear it. I thought it was an organ sound when it actually wasn't! And if anyone knows why the modulator doesn't change whether it's on or off, or no matter how much you move your joystick, I'd love to know why! Thanks again!
Hello everyone! This keyboard is better than Pa1000? I want to buy on Black Friday a keyboard at the end of the year, I don't know which model to buy better.
Wow....thank you for the detailed review....Really helpful...I have a question....Can you external wireless bluetooth speaker to connect to the keyboard so that the sound comes out from the wireless speaker while playing? Thanks
Thank you for your comment! You can copy them from your PSR-3000 via usb stick and then transfer them into the user section of the SX700, if you watch my second genos tutorial video, I will show exactly how to do that, for that example, I have used my tyros 4 to show how to copy the voices over to a stick and to transfer them onto your new keyboard such as the Genos, PSR-SX700/900 etc. Thanks for watching!
Hi! can you help me out with a question please. i used to have genos, had to sell it and im gonna repleace it with the sx900, will my free expansions packages and some others that i bought will work on the sx900 as well? thank you
It's like the difference between Apollo.. and the Enterprise. Very adjustable . I tend to be more hands on live playing ..to record. But it's powerful ..and that's where the expense comes in . I tend not to use 80 percent of most tech capabilities.
@@wkelly-hn4kb thanks for your comment! It’s a great keyboard with many great capabilities, but if you’re not into all the technical stuff, you can just play it like a normal keyboard, it’s easy to navigate through the sounds and styles if that’s what you prefer.. nice and easy!
Thank you Michael for the hard work you put in making those videos, excellent job. I am considering purchasing a PSR-SX900 as currently own a Korg PA1000 which I have created a large number of styles from .wav files, will I be able to import those into the PSR-SX900 as wav or any other media files? Again thank you.
Thank you very much for your comment! I’m glad that this tutorial has helped you in thinking about buying this keyboard. I have never tried putting PA1000 styles onto an SX900, I wonder if there is a style conversion software available, if so, I think that would be the best thing to do to convert your styles for use with the SX900, the format of the SX900 is Style File Format 2 (SSF2) or it can be normal SSF, I’m not sure if WAV flies will work, but WAV files for the drum parts will work making your style an audio style. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
What styles did the keyboard come from that you’re trying to load? Because if it’s styles from tyros 3 upwards they will not work as they are in SFF2 (Style File Format 2)
Hello Michael, WOW! Long video, but this shows us the details of operating the SX900 before buying, which I'm considering to do. Great explanations and demos, I've got you subbed. I wonder if you could explain and show how the Score display works? And details on the Lyrics display? Does the SX900 display PDF files of song notation or lyrics? Is there any way to display a chord sheet? And also, is it possible for you to show how an external display monitor works with the USB adapter? I haven't seen anyone out there show these sorts of features for SX900 yet. Thanks!
Sorry for the late reply but thank you for your comment! I’ve never really used the music score display as I learn music by ear, I’m not so sure about PDF files via the lyrics but I’m pretty sure it does as I don’t really use MIDI files to play songs, when I play song covers I use the internal styles, and I believe the chords come up with the lyrics as well, I don’t have an adapter for external display, I would’ve definitely showed that feature if I had one, at least with the adapter you can have a much larger display than the keyboard screen. The PSR-SX900 is capable of just about anything for song writing! Thanks for watching and thanks for the sub!
@@KeyboardKrazy49 Thanks Michael, I'm not very good with "by ear", but more experience will hopefully develop that. Reading the sheet notation and score helps me a lot, so I'll be experimenting with the screens when I get my SX900 next week! Cheers!
I have never owned any previous Yamaha Keyboards...so omitting things previous shown on the Genos see my point. Other wise great instructional! If your reading thanks!
Sorry for the late reply but thank you for your comment! It is such a great keyboard for what it is, it is basically a mini affordable Genos as it has some sounds and styles from the Genos, if you’re looking for a Yamaha keyboard Gondor this one of the Genos depending on your price range you want to spend. Thanks for watching!
Hi there, i did not get how you gotten to the mega voices at 48:59... If I follow your steps, I just get the normal voices going from piano towards a synth tab... How do I switch directly to megavoices? I can see them when looking them up with the looking glass, but no special tab for them here. Thanks in advance for your response . T.
Thank you so much for this very thorough and helpful video! I have a Tyros 5 and was considering the Genos but the price tag and the 71 keys were a turn off for me. The sx900 as a "mini/compact" Genos seems to be perfect to me and I can keep my T5. One question, please. Can you tell me if the styles interchangeable between the 2 keyboards? Thanks!
Sorry for the late reply but thank you very much for your comment! I’m glad this video has helped you in thinking of buying this keyboard, it’s an absolutely fantastic keyboard with loads of features and inherits sounds and styles from the Genos at an affordable price! You’re right about the SX900 being a mini/compact Genos or it could be known as the Tyros 5+ because it has all the sounds and features from the Tyros 5 (except for SA2 voices and ensemble voices), and plus it has some sounds and features from the Genos. Yes the styles are interchangeable between the 2 keyboards, you can copy the styles from the Tyros 5 onto the SX900 (except audio styles), and you can copy the styles from the SX900 to the Tyros 5 but most will need revoicing because of the new drum kits and new sounds. Thanks for watching!
@@KeyboardKrazy49 thank you so much for your reply. I'm definitely going to get the sx900! I have subscribed and looking forward to your future videos. ☺️
Hi, I'm looking for a keyboard where I can separate the outputs. One channel for Bass, One for drums and another for live play. Will the PSR SX900 do that?
I've just bought a PSR SX900 and your video was helpful - incredibly long and not at all slick and quote repetitive but helpful nevertheless. May be worth thinking through a script from basic to complex operations but thanks for the effort put in to making this...
Great wounderful tutorial. Question 1. Sir how to transfer my data from my keyboard psrsx700 to my USB. ALSO how to transfer data From my USB to my keyboard psrsx700. THANKS
Thank you very much for your comment! I glad that you have enjoyed this tutorial video and that you have found it useful, I will be showing more keyboards sometime this year and will also be doing tutorials of them as well. Thanks for watching!
Hello Michael, greetings from Spain colleague. Congratulations on the great videos you make. I am interested in a very important aspect of the PSR-SX900, since because of the pandemic it does not allow us to physically play the keyboard in the store, and therefore I do not know what touch the keys of the instrument transmit? How do the keys on this keyboard feel? Compared to a Korg PA700, are they better or somewhat similar? Thank you very much Michael and I am looking forward to new videos from you.
Hello Michael! Thank you for this video lesson. I am from Kazakhstan. My name is Alisher. I just bought a Yamaha PSR-SX900 synthesizer. If it is possible, I ask you to make a PERSONAL video lesson on creating YOUR STYLE with a detailed demonstration of all synth's features. Thanks in advance! I apologize for my English.
Thank you for this video it was really helpfull ... plz give tye details about the microphone 🎤 and harmonisers ,effect how to set the mic as universal setting in keyboard
It was quite a ride but I enjoyed your great explanation in this video. I found out that for playing the XG and GM voices, you can bring them out in the way you described in a style and then save them as a favorite. Then you can even open this voice in the voice editor and save it in your user memory as a playable voice.
Thank you for the video. Genos is glorified Sx900. I have the Older version S750 from 2013. 2020 I bought MODX. They all sound the same. Keyboard manufacturers don't bother changing the samples. They sell a lot of plastics. My 2020 modx sounds exactly like my 2008 MOX6 and my 2012 MX49. Yamaha update your sample library.
Thanks for your comment! Both models are just as great, but the PSR-SX900 is definitely much better in terms of sound quality, is a basically a compact/mini Genos at a much more affordable price compared to Genos, the DGX-670 will have some better piano sounds and 88 keys, so it really depends on what your aiming for, if you want a full size piano, go for the DGX-670, and it’ll be a lot cheaper too, if you want a keyboard with great sound quality which is not far from being of the same quality as the flagship Genos, go for the PSR-SX900 though more expensive than the DGX-670. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
@@KeyboardKrazy49 thank u for this quick response .. yes I wanted 88 keys and composition etc I like that if no internet I can still do so much without a DAW, also the data sheets show amazing list of sound effects etc so much, did u do a review of the dgx 670?
Superb tutorial. I want to ask you a question. I have seen that the LEDs of the Yamaha PSR SX900 keyboard when they are not touching anything for a while begin to move from one side to the other. All LEDs. Do you know how this is programmed?
Sorry for the late reply but thank you for your comment! I’m glad you have enjoyed this tutorial and that you have found it useful. I don’t think I’ve come across such a program regarding the LEDs so I’m not fully sure what you mean. Thanks for watching!
Thank you very much for your comment! I’m glad this tutorial has helped you in what to expect on the PSR-SX700/900, it is a fantastic keyboard which inherits sounds and styles from the flagship Genos. Thanks for watching!
What a brilliant video tutorial. Thank you. One questiion about loading packs: You said when you load packs it deletes those already installed. Does it delete the preloaded packs that came with the SX900? If so, how do you recover them please|?
Thank you very much for your comment! I am glad you have enjoyed this tutorial and that you have found it useful! To answer your question, yes it does delete the already pre-installed expansion packs, but you can get those back very easily, although it will delete the expansion packs you've installed yourself, but they will be in the Yamaha Expansion Manager software on your conputer so you won't lose them. If you want the pre-installed content back, you go to the menu (page 2), and select 'Expansion', and there will be an option called 'Restore Pre-Installed Expansion Contents', and that'll reinstall the 4 pre-installed expnsion packs that comes with the keyboard when you buy it, also at the same time, it wil delete what expansion packs you have put on there yourself, but you can still load them up again when you want to put them on there via Expansion Manager, so you won't permanently lose any packs. Hope this helps, and thanks for watching!
Great tutorial Michael, I still can't decide whether to purchase this one or the SX700. I think it's just down to pure sound quality at the end of the day. Sometimes when listening to both keyboards in headphones I think I can hear a real difference but on another day it's hard to tell them apart. I know I won't need the extras features so my choice will definitely be down to the sound.
Thank you for your comment! I’m glad this tutorial has helped you getting to know how to use this keyboard, if you’re stuck on anything, you can just go back to this video and I’m sure this video will guide you to what you’re stuck on. Thanks for watching!
Brilliant just please guide me the multi pad voice is not changing same piano is coming , I might have made some changes in freezing not able to rectify it
Thanks so much for your tutorials. I just bought a brand new PSR SX900 but the sound level of PIANO&E.PIANO and GUITAR are too low compared to the sound level of any Style. Other voices (ORGAN, ACCORDION, etc) don’t have this problem. Is there a way to fix this problem. Thanks
Thanks for your comment! There is a couple of ways in which you can try to sort the problem, the first one is to update the firmware and see if that solves your problem, and the second solution would be to turn the volume up on the voice parts so you get the right level volume of the sound. Thanks for watching and hope this helps!
Thank you so much for your detailed video. It was really helpful as I bought this keyboard last month! I had one question though. Is there a reason why you would record the style creator accompaniment in Em and not on C major??
John Martin thank you for your comment! I hope you are getting on well with your SX900, I am really enjoying mine so far! About your question regarding style creator, if you go to style creator using a built in style, you’ll notice that it is played back in Em on the chords and pad channel, and possibly the phrase channels, I’ve made styles in the past using the normal chords but they don’t sound right when I play them back, but playing them in Em chord will give you the best results when creating a style and then change the NTR parameter to ROOT FIXED, and then change the NTT to CHORD, then you will get the best results of a newly created style. Thanks for watching and hope this helps!
gerald antony thank you for your comment! Yes you can use S970 expansion packs for the SX700 but bear in mind that the SX700 has approximately 400mb of internal data to add expansion packs, the s970 has 512mb so the SX700 will be quite limited of adding expansion packs. Thanks for watching!
I do not see Michaels time list. I only see part of robsons time list. Could somebody post the complete list for this excellent tutorial? Where is blutooth explained?
Yes you can, do the voices folders, and go to copy, select copy all, and paste them onto a usb stick and move them to the SX900, the only voices you will not get access to is the Super Articulation 2 voices

I have a psr 540 and I learn by watching video's and doing. the printed version does not compute. are there instruction video's avalable for it?
I've yamaha psr s-900. When i try to play styles from usb flash, it shows me " the data hasn't been loaded properly", so what should i do? Thanks!
What styles did the keyboard come from that you’re trying to load? Because if it’s styles from tyros 3 upwards they will not work as they are in SFF2 (Style File Format 2)
Great information ..thank you! 🤟
Tutorial SENSACIONAL... parabéns e muito obrigado!
Cheers!
@David M Thanks David! Looking forward to it......... (where is that delivery truck?? LOL)
Thanks!
Yes! The styles are interchangeable. No problem!
❤❤❤❤ thank you so much 😊
Hi there, is it possible to recall progression n. 1-8 by midi signals or other external devices? Thanks.
I've just bought a PSR SX900 and your video was helpful - incredibly long and not at all slick and quote repetitive but helpful nevertheless. May be worth thinking through a script from basic to complex operations but thanks for the effort put in to making this...
Is it still worth buying this in 2022?
Absolutely, it is still Yamahas current mid ranged keyboard
Great wounderful tutorial. Question 1. Sir how to transfer my data from my keyboard psrsx700 to my USB. ALSO how to transfer data From my USB to my keyboard psrsx700. THANKS
You re so kind. Thanks.
At around 1:30:48 Why did you press Exit to enter a playlist you created. Wouldn’t you press Enter? I’m confused with that sequence.
GREAT video! Very informative and well done :-)
Thank you very much for your comment! I glad that you have enjoyed this tutorial video and that you have found it useful, I will be showing more keyboards sometime this year and will also be doing tutorials of them as well.
Thanks for watching!
Great help and great job sir!
Great video! Anyone know if the multi pad has volume control?
Hello Michael, greetings from Spain colleague. Congratulations on the great videos you make. I am interested in a very important aspect of the PSR-SX900, since because of the pandemic it does not allow us to physically play the keyboard in the store, and therefore I do not know what touch the keys of the instrument transmit? How do the keys on this keyboard feel? Compared to a Korg PA700, are they better or somewhat similar? Thank you very much Michael and I am looking forward to new videos from you.
I was wondering if you were gonna feature it ^^ also FIRST COMMENT
Hello Michael!
Thank you for this video lesson.
I am from Kazakhstan.
My name is Alisher.
I just bought a Yamaha PSR-SX900 synthesizer.
If it is possible, I ask you to make a PERSONAL video lesson on creating YOUR STYLE with a detailed demonstration of all synth's features.
Thanks in advance!
I apologize for my English.
Is it possible to lower style volume that stays fixed.
I can lower it in EQ settings but reverts back to too loud when next selection is done.
Thank you :)
Thank you for this video it was really helpfull ... plz give tye details about the microphone 🎤 and harmonisers ,effect how to set the mic as universal setting in keyboard
It was quite a ride but I enjoyed your great explanation in this video.
I found out that
for playing the XG and GM voices, you can bring them out in the way you described in a style and then save them as a favorite. Then you can even open this voice in the voice editor and save it in your user memory as a playable voice.
I have to say the Design of this keyboard looks really nice I wonder how 80s songs sounds like on this instrument
The design and keyboard are absolutely fantastic! The 80s styles on this keyboard sound almost the same as on the Genos
Good video
I am trying to decide and like the DGX-670 as this one is more $$ .. what is your opinion of these arranger models which one is truly best ?
I haven’t done a review of the DGX-670 since I don’t have one myself, I recently got the new PSR-EW425 which I’m working on videos of right now
Thanks very much for this video,
Superb tutorial.
Beautiful and clear explanation
@@KeyboardKrazy49 Thank you for your prompt reply
Great tutorial Michael, I still can't decide whether to purchase this one or the SX700. I think it's just down to pure sound quality at the end of the day. Sometimes when listening to both keyboards in headphones I think I can hear a real difference but on another day it's hard to tell them apart. I know I won't need the extras features so my choice will definitely be down to the sound.
You can get more stuff in the sx900
@@pikamakusu Big price difference though, I wonder if all the extras are necessary????
I have learnt a lot.. Thank you Sir!
Excellent! Well done. It's very detailed and I can use it as a reference. Thank you.
Thank you for your comment! I’m glad this tutorial has helped you getting to know how to use this keyboard, if you’re stuck on anything, you can just go back to this video and I’m sure this video will guide you to what you’re stuck on.
Thanks for watching!
Brilliant just please guide me the multi pad voice is not changing same piano is coming , I might have made some changes in freezing not able to rectify it
yamaha psr sx900 how to change voices with a FC3 foot pedal not in hands. THANKS.
I'll get my Psr Sx 900 next month. 👍
YAMAHA PSR-SX900 IS THE MOST AERODYNAMIC KEYBOARDS IN THE WORLD!
Best video ever.
That tutorial was a good guide💯💯
Excellent knowledge....
Wow.. Greetings from Gerald UAE
Really great dedicated work
It's helpful for my SX700 also..
Can I use the expansion packs of S970 on my SX700..
gerald antony thank you for your comment!
I just upgraded from a Tyros 3 to the sx900 and am setting it up…can I copy the voices from the 3 over into the sx900? How?
Yes you can, do the voices folders, and go to copy, select copy all, and paste them onto a usb stick and move them to the SX900, the only voices you will not get access to is the Super Articulation 2 voices
How do i turn volume on yamaha if i plug it in speaker?
Thanks so much! 👌
