    Hi Stephen. DeSilva has brought out a 2nd edition of his introduction in 2018 and it is even better! Cheers Steve

    Enjoyed your video and look forward to more. Luke Timothy Johnson was my New Testament professor at Emory’s Candler School of Philosophy.

      What a privilege! How I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall in his lectures! God bless you!

    Thank you for all the recommendations pastor! I have added the "Exploring the New Testament" and the Powell volumes to my cart! Also, I definitely agree on the deSilva recommendation. One of the best I have in this category! Blessings from Minnesota!

    Do they have similar quality Introductions to the Old Testament?

    Pastor, are you familiar with G.K. Beale's "The Story Retold"? It's somewhat different than the typical New Testament introduction, but it's a wonderful book both in content and aesthetics. Definitely one of my favorites alongside the deSilva volume.
    P.S. My "Exploring the New Testament" volumes will arrive today. Thank you so much for the recommendation!

      Thank you so much for the Beale recommendation - no I haven't seen it but will look out for it starting today! Thanks for your support!

    DeSilver's 2nd ed is awesome.
    It's under grad level with a bit extra.

    What is the difference between these and an introduction in an academic commentary?

    • @pastorslibrary
      @pastorslibrary  15 днів тому +1

      The difference is more about "purpose" - you could find out a lot more in an academic commentary, but these are all designed for a typical "introduction to the New Testament" course - hence the similar layouts. The range of material in one volume as a "one stop shop" is the key. If you are wanting something which is not to support a formal course then I would still recommend "Exploring the New Testament", but inevitably an academic commentary will be unlikely to not overlap and give even more detail. That was a really good question! Blessings!
