  • There are two different content-aware fill tools in Photoshop. One is nearly fully automatic, while the other offers more options. In this tutorial, I explain both.

Nicely done Anthony. Once again excellent use of practical examples to 'show' the points you are teaching. Case in point the tip regarding being too precise with the subject selection. Nice demo at the end to underscore the point!

Great explanation Anthony. I rarely need Photoshop so I never retain the information. However, whenever I need to learn or refresh my memory on PS or LrC stuff, you’re my first stop. Your delivery is calm and relaxed, you don’t assume that i have a working knowledge of the software, so you cover the small details. Thank you.

Thanks Anthony. For the selection I always use the Polygonal Lasso, it seems the fill blends in better.

Good summary thanks Anthony! One other tip, having made your selection, if you right click it will pull up a menu by the pointer where you can choose content aware fill without going to the toolbar at the top.

This video Really cleared the use of content aware up for me, as usual top tuition. I tried the "edit-content aware fill" tool on one of my photographs with an annoying small bush at the front of the image that i have tried and failed to remove with the clone tool and found this worked extremely well. Thank you.

I only use Photoshop for focus stacking so thank you for your tuition. As a test for my ability, I have just used this method to remove a person from a photograph I took. I used the non destructive number 2 method - thanks Anthony, great content.

Nice explanation of the different types of content aware fill. I had no idea there were two versions. I do have a question though. Didn't there use to be a place where you could select how many pixels were on either side of your selection in order to have a smoother transition ? Or am I thinking of a different process?

I use the lasso or marquee tools and click the right mouse button. I never copy the image before hand because if it doesn't work you can undo in edit.
I always save my edits under a different name so my original or stages are still preserved.
Content aware isn't great for larger objects to be removed but thanks for the clone idea, I've never really tough thought of that 👍

My question is how would you remove the pedestal if it were up against but behind the leg of the statue itself so that they appeared to touch?

I love your videos! Have you done a tutorial about the clone stamp in PS? Every time I use it for something sort of big (like a stick across a deer's back), it always seems a bit smudged. I think it's the overlapping feather from the softness? I need your help! :)

    • @eartho

Thanks! I've been using Content Aware Fill for a while and have always been disappointed at the results. I try to refine it doing a better selection to no avail. No I know to do a crummy job on the selection. Better results and easier to do. Who'd a thunk it?

  • @tromboneJTS

It did a sample stamp and just pasted over the area you wanted to hide. The grass stalk was part of the copy. You could do the same manually and smudge the edges. Why is this considered AI???

This is pretty cool, but doesn't using it make your art ai generated? We have drawn that line in the sand now, using this should be attacked every bit as much as generated art shouldn't it?

  • @hamentaschen

Clickbait alert!! I searched for "content aware fill". I liked this video, but only clicked because of the pretty girl in the thumbnail. Now I am disappointed and will not be watching any other videos by this channel. There is no girl in the video. I call that click bait! Funny thing is, without the girl in the thumbnail, I would have watched this anyway. Now I wont. You have been warned people.

lasso. you always mispronounce this word. The proper place to put the accent is on the first syllable not the second syllable.
