- ET’s Ash Crossan spoke with Joe Taslim about his upcoming role as Sub-Zero in ‘Mortal Kombat,’ in theaters and on HBO Max April 23. Taslim opens up about why his casting was ‘meant to be,’ donning the costume for the first time and how he feels about the 1995 movie.

He did a fantastic job conveying emotion with just his eyes. My favourite moment was when Sub-Zero was daring Scorpion to try that move again right before he caught Scorpion's Kunai.

Well actually all recent martial artist actor or actress in Indonesia really live a humble peaceful life like Joe, or Iko or Cecep Arif Rahman, or Julie Estelle, or Kang Yayan. Most of them are focusing on their main purpose in life and dont really have time to play around or goof around or get involved with artificial crap in the entertainment industry.

Totally killed it in this role. He was really intense as Sub-Zero and looked very intimidating, hope he returns in whatever form the movie takes next, whether it's a prequel or moving the story forwards :)

What I found to be truly crazy about this particular Bi Han is how he's pretty much the *final boss* in the 2021 MK movie. I mean... _how _*_MIND BLOWING_*_ is that?!_

Joe loved you as the original sub zero and I hope you come back in the sequel as Noob Saibot your an awesome actor and as a Sub Zero fan from the games you made me proud.

Joe nailed it perfectly as Sub Zero. I can't see any other actor who are more fitting to be Subs than him.
Besides, Noob wears mask/black faced all the time, even his real eyes are not visible. Other actor can be Noob, it doesn't have to be Joe.
@@rigelark7286 Right, Joe Taslim is absolutely amazing as Sub-Zero. He perfectly fits Bi-han's bill, but Kuai Liang is different character entirely and his Sub-Zero is significantly diffrent from big brother.. So
in my opinion, they should choose someone else with a completely new energy for Kuai Liang and Joe should continue as Noob Saibot beacuse he's perfect for this role. Besides, in one interview Joe said he was happy to play as Bi-Han / original Sub-Zero because he knew the story about this character and knew he will become Saibot, and Joe loves Sub-Zero but Noob Saibot is his favorite character overall. ;)
@@luminaratano3935 I think Joe can deliver Kuai Liang perfectly. He is not an actor who can only act as villain. Some of his films are Romance Drama, even Comedy.
His character Li Yong in Warrior (especially Season 2) for example, is calm, chivalrous, merciful, but fearless and badass at the same time, just like Kuai Liang.
Like it or not, Noob Saibot isn't as iconic as Sub Zero.
I don't dislike Noob Saibot but he's just a flat villain with cool moves. Nothing more.
And, a part of the reason why Joe's Sub Zero looks so menacing was because Joe can act through his eye expression.
If he's Noob, he couldn't do that anymore as Noob's face is forever in full mask. It would be a waste for Joe IMO.
Joe Taslim confirmed that he will return as Noob Saibot in the sequel ( if there is a sequel). 🤗 It's really great news! I can't wait.. ;)

for the 1st two MK game, sub zero is THE MOST OP character. just like he said; freeze your oponent, give an uppercut to summon Dan Forden, and pull the spine off. it is because of this reason, ESRB was found.
I just finished watching Mortal Kombat an hour ago and it's way better than any other movie based on a game ever made. I hope the characters who died somehow comes back in sequels

Seeing him looking so cool and gentle here, one would doubt he's the same scary Bi Han that's Sub-Zero. He totally nailed his role as Sub-Zero.

I hope that more opportunities in Hollywood arise for Joe. He easily stole the show in MK (and Raid was such a good movie). Yo, Marvel or DC, you should cast this man in one of your movies.
I think Warner bros should bring a reboot of Streetfighter and Joe and sanada should play big roles in it,it will be lit.
I really hope Joe won't be in the MCU. John Wick movie maybe, or a movie where he is the main character.

I watched it this morning. It was amazing! The build up made me feel 12 again waiting for the 90's version. It so exceeded my hopes.
He did such a good job as Sub-Zero, he was terrifying and as an actor when you basically can only show your eyes it's even more of an amazing display of his acting chops that he still commanded the screen so well. I wonder if they'll give him a redemption Arc similar to in the games in the next movie. There has to be a next movie! I also loooove Hiroyuki Sanada in general and he was GREAT as Scorpion.
It was good, although I didn't like how short it was, and how some of the characters died too easily. I hear people saying that Joe Taslim is in the contract for 4 films as Sub-Zero, so I'd love to see more.

Goro is a bit on the fence because they said it was him but maybe Shang Tsung revives him in the flesh pits or maybe explain that he was old so thats why he died to Cole and replace him with Sheva or Kintaro.

Sub-Zero and Scorpion have ALWAYS been my favourites. I was not disappointed. LOVE the fight scenes between those two. Also, big Hiroyuki Sanada fan. And now a fan of Joe!

Mask aside, he reminded me of Bane, his way of walking, kinda cocky, kinda just awesome. He even threw something of Scorpions like Bane does with the broken bat mask. Anyway he was amazing.

originally, im all in scorpion fans, but since scorpion is a good guy now, specially after his background story, i switch to sub zero. and joe act, killing it.
i don't mind that scorpion background story, but making scorpion to be hero, its lost it vibe.
scorpion should be a bad guy with tragic tragic backgrounds, not one of the good guy.

i agree with you, Subzero was the main character and 1 of the good guy in the 90's, and many players in the 90s love Subzero more than any characters thats why theres a game of stand alone MK Subzero made in the 90s but it changed since WB got bought and had different CEO, the story got changed as well..the new CEO of WB at that time loves Scorpion and used to play the character in the game and since then Scorpion become the good guy and Subzero is the enemy, if you notice the logo of netherrealm studio (1 of WBs studios) that making MK9 is Scorpion.

Sub zero and scorpion were my go to characters when I play. we also share the same fight styles too. I have actually taken lessons from the actor that played scorpion in the first mortal kombat movie and in mortal kombat conquest. currently I'm a 5th degree in ninjutsu, 3rd degree in shorian ryu, 2nd in Ishian ryu and close to my 1st degree black in judo

Everyone raging about the main character and how Kano is the best one in the whole movie. F that. Sub zero and scorpion fight makes up for everything.
But Scorpion and Sub Zero were barely even in the movie. I don't think altogether they had more than 15 mins of screentime.
The two fan favorite MK characters, and they are barely in the movie!
