I'd just like to say thank you so much for these videos. They're inspiring, teaching you enough to make you want to jump up and create a beautiful story, but not too much as to spoon feed you. This is really one of the best resources I've found so far. Thank you so much.
A simple story creation assignment seems to have unlocked a hidden love for story telling. I found an image about Pixar's rules of story telling and I had to learn more about it. Thanks for posting!
For anyone who thinks that the title is wrong. Writing is about asking questions so I think he means to give us the right questions to ask ourselves when we want to think about some ideas. I hope this answer was helpful
I feel like this video is less about "finding ideas" and more about exploring "personal hell" for characters. :) In some ways they are similar, but ideas don't always stem from personal hell - it's just a really effective way of creative personal conflict.
I agree with you - but also potentially everything else in the story (the other characters, the plot, the ending) could flow from figuring out this initial 'personal hell', so I think it makes sense as a starting point
For anyWriting is about asking questions so I think he means to give us the right questions to ask ourselves when we want to think about some ideas. I hope this answer was helpful
I honestly think Toy Story is one of the greatest films ever made lol. I know it may sound ridiculous, but it's so well pieced together and the character relationships are so well developed - and of course it's incredibly fun and you can rewatch it many times and it never gets old.
It would be nice to see Disney or Pixar create a film involving a feral child raised by animals, but with new twists as well as references to how humans and animals often fear each other and unjustly demonize their entire species, how life isn't always an us vs them type of game, and how the main protagonist finds they can't choose one side, refuses to admit he deserves suffering for being human, and finds pride in being a link between both the worlds of animal and Man. The drama writes itself.
Ive watched the whole series and i think its really useful and meaningful actually In my own opinion this series isn't just for animation its for books writings even films any thing that contains a story and depends on it This series is the features and the rules that makes us stick around until the end of the story and make us feel that is story is worth our time and that is why we simply sometimes don't like animation that is kinda so childish u know for instance in a good story there will be reasons for the success of the character.. if he wins in a forceful combition it s maybe bec he trains alot until he becomes stronger but in a so childish story the character might win a forceful combition even if he is so fragile bec at the end of the story he gets angry so he beats his combition a beat that made him lies still or when in a so childish story a cruel ..quite cruel character just get soften at the end without any any reason but ... the reason that the director wants that to happen
And apparently by accident, Toy Story 3 also serves as a perfect Christian allegory. Andy stands in for God, Andy's toys are Christians, and Lotso is Satan.
What you’re saying makes sense, but how do you square it with stories where the main characters are invited to do exactly what they want? Harry Potter-who’s, powerless, friendless and abused-gets to join wizard school where he’s protected, befriended and taught magic. Luke Skywalker, who wants to do something with his life that’s more exciting than moisture farming, gets to join the Rebellion and train to become a Jedi. The isekai genre and wish fulfillment in general are about people who are unsatisfied with their life getting an opportunity to do something they love. Do these stories work because the main characters start out in uncomfortable situations before getting what they want? What are your thoughts?
Learn animation, write your own script using your idea and maybe even start your own animation company or create UA-cam videos featuring your animated story? It's better that way because then you get the credit for anything you do.
Well, if you really think about that, that coincidence kind of got Woody and Buzz into trouble, because Sid was at Pizza Planet, so if that truck didn't take them to Pizza Planet, then they wouldn't have gotten captured by Sid. And that's another coincidence that gets them into trouble, Sid is at Pizza Planet.
I find it so sad to figure that the same receipe is applied again and again on all TS movies, that's so poor. Our children probably deserve to see more diversified scripts...
You know ,its not true at all! When I read Creativity Inc I realized, the most special thing about Pixar story process is not having any of these rules ... It's more and more about exploring ideas and not saying no to new things... Pixar don't have any structural way for story process ... It's more pure in sense they start with their gut feeling and there's lots lots of improvisation, lots lots and lots of pivoting* And that's how they discovered* new worlds and new ideas They literally discovered* Like John Lasseter once said, (not exact words but sum of it) "its like digging for dinosaur bones , you know its going to be exciting but you don't know what part you're going to come up first" Can you believe Up* started with A kingdom that exists above clouds and 2 prince who don't like each other and one of them is going to sit on throne [There are no Pixar rules for story] I think We too should free us from these storytelling chains....keep exploring , pivoting until the new land arrives with the help of our braintrust* and gut feeling
Exploring without any context/reason/knowledge is like doing quantum physics without knowing calculus, you WILL be totally lost. These rules are a bunch of guidelines, no one said you HAVE to follow it, but it is helpful to know some of the basics before you venture out on your own. Pixar does not follow these rules strictly(hell, no studio does), but there is a common theme among a lot of their movies that their rules act as a baseline to all of them.
That group is a scam and ripoff. I turned in a idea to them before and they took all credit from me and gave it to Brad Bird years later. I have had enough pain from this boring system. Pixar is just another Disney if it had a Jack in the Box as its penis.

Terrific intro for any writer who'd like to create characters that tell a compelling story. Well-chosen clips illustrating the key points!

I didn't think I'd find writing on a channel based on animation - I love it! :)

OHP77 “one of the greatest films ever made” oh honey no

Ugh. This isn't story ideas
This is story structure!
Don't get me wrong, great video on story structure. Very well done.
Fantastic lessons here, thank you
can't wait for more!
Simple yet inspiring thank you
Can you rearrange your playlist order so it plays in order (1-10) right now it plays (10-1). Thanks
You can flip the order yourself
I’ll let you guys know if I make it to Pixar
Ive watched the whole series and i think its really useful and meaningful
actually
In my own opinion
this series isn't just for animation its for books writings even films any thing that contains a story and depends on it
This series is the features and the rules that makes us stick around until the end of the story and make us feel that is story is worth our time
and that is why we simply sometimes don't like animation that is kinda so childish
u know for instance in a good story there will be reasons for the success of the character.. if he wins in a forceful combition it s maybe bec he trains alot until he becomes stronger
but in a so childish story
the character might win a forceful combition even if he is so fragile bec at the end of the story he gets angry so he beats his combition a beat that made him lies still
or when in a so childish story a cruel ..quite cruel character just get soften at the end without any any reason but ...
the reason that the director wants that to happen
I have to watch this for a class but honestly this was cool but I almost burst into laughter when it was just *SID’S BASEMENT*
And apparently by accident, Toy Story 3 also serves as a perfect Christian allegory. Andy stands in for God, Andy's toys are Christians, and Lotso is Satan.
great series!
Concise and comprehensive. Thank you.

super
this is excellent
we are loving these
This is great!
when your story is on the ANZAC's and doesnt exactly have an ending...
except for his death...
Thank you!
Hello I have a great idea for a Monster Inc sequel, but Pixar does not allow fans to send scripts and ideas for future films...
What should I do???
Three options:
1. Write as fanfic
2. Write it for yourself
3. Try to get hired at Pixar and pitch your story
Learn animation, write your own script using your idea and maybe even start your own animation company or create UA-cam videos featuring your animated story? It's better that way because then you get the credit for anything you do.
This is awesome!
whats the background music's title? can i use it ? :) thanksss
Thank you so much for this video, you don't know what it means to me
Didn't they break one of their own rules? In Toy Story it's a coincidence that a Pizza Planet Delivery Truck takes them there...
I appreciate the FEMALE hero 😢😊
Excellent analysis.
0:32 OOPS! Oh no!
What if I make the character turn his comfort zone to the opposite? Making his opinion to change or the environment....
Nicely done, thanks for posting.
Is the narrator of those videos Agent Norman Jayden from Heavy Rain`?^^
Awesome. Thanks :)
thank you so much
Give some credits to Steve Jobs and Lasseter
Excellent

Like John Lasseter once said, (not exact words but sum of it)
"its like digging for dinosaur bones , you know its going to be exciting but you don't know what part you're going to come up first"
Can you believe Up* started with
A kingdom that exists above clouds and 2 prince who don't like each other and one of them is going to sit on throne
[There are no Pixar rules for story]
I think
We too should free us from these storytelling chains....keep exploring , pivoting until the new land arrives with the help of our braintrust* and gut feeling
So does that makes this book worthless :P
