HONEST REVIEW - Jackery Explorer 500 Portable Power Station and Jackery 100 watt Folding Solar Panel

- In Episode 26 of Truck House Life, I put the Jackery Explorer 500 Portable Power Station and Jackery 100 watt folding solar panel TO THE TEST! Then give an honest review. I use the Jackery to recharge the Onewheel XR (which has an incredibly powerful lithium ion phosphate battery). The Jackery is approximately 43 amp hours (similar to most good car batteries) and the Onewheel has a 27 amp hour battery (38% smaller than the Jackery 500).
This video goes over a couple of features of the Jackery power station and solar panel, how long it took to charge everything in full sunlight and partial sunlight, and what my thoughts are on the Jackery generator and solar panel. Enjoy!

*100% best **Generater.Systems** I have used. A test for hurricane prep here in Louisiana: three AC units, 5000, 5000 & 8000, 3 fridges, 2 device power setups, 4 flat screens....AND I had 40% of the power meter to spare.*
yup!
I’ve got the jackery 500 and primarily use it for my Cpap machine at the cabin. I don’t turn off the humidifier and use a DC adapter. If I use it for 8 hrs I go from 100% to about 56% by morning. I’m pretty impressed with the unit
I have the Jackery 240, and I am planning to upgrade. The best I ever got using the Jackery 100W Solar Charger was 68 watts. It stayed there fairly consistently. Glad to see I am not the only one not getting 100 watts ;)
Much 💚 from the valley~ I’m thinking of getting a jackery myself. Thanks for the review!
It's been great man, glad you enjoyed it:^)
That’s awesome hope you are staying healthy and positive Timmy good to see you Many blessings
thanks Peggy:^)
Great review dude! I have the Jackery 500 and the 160, pretty stoked on them! I got the rock pals 100W portable panels though because they were cheaper when I was lookin! Safe travels bro!
Thanks man, yup, I'm pretty stoked on it! Maybe see ya out there one day!
Fantastic product! Works as advertised! Thank you so much 😊
Thanks man, yup it's pretty sweet:^)
Great job testing and explaining how it works.
Thank you!
oh how I miss living in Alaska.....I'm looking into getting the jackery for hurricane season since I'm in Florida and I cant have a gas generator in our condo community. Thanks for your honest review!
no worries! it's still running great a year later!
Without a solar panel I charged my phone through usb and my Nintendo switch through the AC outlet; phone from 50% and Nintendo switch straight from dead battery to 50% with only using 7% of the fully charged jackery 500 battery. So overall I'm pretty happy with that. Charged both at the same time to boot!! So far so good! Going to connect the solar panel later today and see what happens!
im seeing your comment was a year ago. Hows your jackery been doing?
@@agntoflife it's working just as good as the day I got it. Still happy that I got it. It's great for power outages or camping trips!!
@@TheChrislewis1989 thanks bro I’ve already ordered it. Enjoy your weekend.
Thx for the review, I was thinking about getting one.. but not sure..
I'm pretty stoked on it, works great:^). The solar definitely doesn't draw 100 watts (it's about 1/2 to 3/4 what it should get), but maybe that's normal for most panels?
Ill be camping at a few Onewheel events this summer. Hoping I can get 3 charges out of the Jackery 1000. Would be a game changer. Thanks for the review!
Nice, should work great!
@@TruckHouseLife you should go to Shredfest 2, in early June. It's a great time!
Awesome video! I'm officially sold! Thanks.
right on! yeah it still works great!
I need this particular one asap. Going hot tenting on Thursday. I live Spokane,Washington. Not one store in this city carries it in stocks! I'm pissed. I have e to order it. For this trip I have to bring a generator inverter (noise) . Nice, now I feel better after getting that all out!
Yeah, it's an awesome little unit man.
hah! Get it out--feel better!
You might want to try charging your one wheel using he 12 volt plug and cable. You will use less power from the Jackery as the power from the Jackery doesn't have to go through the converter on the Jackery to change it to 110v. That is what I have read and you will have more power left in your Jackery 500 when you are done. Thanks for the video.
Yep, I know that 110 conversion uses a lot more power, I was really trying to push the jackery. But yep, 12 volt would definitely use less I imagine:^)
What's up dude how's everything going? It seems like you got everything going pretty good bro
Legit the exact videos I was looking for
Nice man, I try to do real world tests, I'm still super happy with it!
Excellent Video!!! Thank you Sir!!!
Thanks for the tutorial 👍.
No problem 👍
What a great review, good work Sir, subd 👏🙏😎🏴
Right on, welcome!
thanks for the video very useful
Hey, great review, thank you! I have a tec question maybe u could help. We left the Jackery 240’s Outlet switch on in its back going on a 4 hour journey (nothing was plugged in)
We when we got to our destination and took it out of the bag it was very warm / hot & both fans was running !
The fans would have struggled to get air for whatever length they were on. Any idea if the heat was coming from the battery, the inverter or the fans them selfs?
As far as we knew there was a cut off built into it so I’m wondering why it wouldn’t have shut down ? I reset the battery and it appears to be working 100% , surprisingly fans seem fine etc. Thanks in advance
Not sure man? Hopefully the fan is working correctly.
I'm surprised they sent you one. I've tried to get jackery batteries in Alaska. None of their retailers will ship to Alaska. Reaching out to their customer support they said it wasn't possible 🤷♂️. I guess they found a way, atleast for promotion of their product.
Yup, it wasn't easy getting it, it was held up for quite some time in the post.
Awesome Crocs I have the same ones ✌😁
best shoes in the world;^)
awesome test very good video. that's a wrap 🛠️🇨🇦🛠️🇨🇦🛠️👍👍
Thanks 👍
Well done. Thanks.
thanks man
Does this only work for charging? Could I plug in a camera or even an LED light for filming? Can you plug stuff in and run them off this?
Great video but What would the Jackery 500 Power Station t be like charging a cell phone or space heater or fan since I'm looking to use it for a Power Outage not riding a scooter. Also the device needing 6 hours (or longer depending on sunlight) to charge is kinda long to have to wait with it to fully charge.
Onewheel needs around 3 hours to charge or less. I did the test with the onewheel because it draws a lot of energy. There's probably some other reviews out there testing it with low power draw stuff like cell phones and fans. I doubt it would run a space heater at all, space heaters usually require 1,000 watts or more of instantaneous power. And yup, no matter what set up you buy it will take a good part of the day in full sunlight to recharge everything.
Timmayyyy!
I have two for switching one while the other charges
Nice and I wonder how long this can keep my BODEGA portable fridge outdoor
Not sure?
I've noticed that most solar panels realistically only charge at about ~50% of their wattage rating. I have yet to see any 100W panel charge much above 65W, regardless of sun exposure.
Yup nailed it, a max of pretty much 77 watts with my 100 watt panel is the best I've seen.
I was wondering about this. I am glad to this question. Do you think the solar panel is worth it?
@@Msmacrospirit yup totally!
I would like to know how much power is consumed by charging the One Wheel with the DC option.
Your camper is very distinctive. I have seen your truck many times in Anchorage and on the Seward Highway. I saw your truck at Different Strokes today. Hope all is well.
Thanks man, all is good! I'll know soon about the DC option
Think it's time to go shopping 🤙
yup they are pretty sweet!
Jackery 1000 is LIT
I like the solar part of the video.
Thanks man:)
What a performance
Hello. How many watts would you need to run a space heater in a tent? I’m thinking one of the 1500W ones. The one you have here, maybe it would power a space heater for only 2-3 hrs. Any idea?
Space heater would be too much juice, you're better off running a Mr. Buddy propane heater, much more efficient and way cheaper.
Will it last long at night use? Wanted to do some winter camp and use it on small heater I got.
A heater would probably kill it pretty quick.
Damn I wouldn’t mind a house truck like that
yup!
I have one of those jackerys for camping. Works great, I bought it because my name is Zachary
Came for the review and staying for the silliness
nice lol
Made it into the intro... sick
lol, firkin-A ya did bud! that Ingram footage is coming out this coming Sunday, along with Upper Willow and Bird:^)
Thanks for a "real world" test.
You know it, just wanted to be honest even though they hooked me up, I think it speaks for itself in the video that it's capable.
So my question is, do you recommend it for say camping/van living?
Totally!
How long does the solar panel take to charge the battery station?
If you don’t want to leave this out charging while you are going out on a trail could you prop up the solar panel on a dashboard? (So it doesn’t get stolen)
Probably
Hai great and much informative review about jackery power station. Can I connect e bike Power charger to this power station while riding my RAD E- BIKE 🚲 . Can I tie and connect this to extend the range of Electric Bike.
Thanks:)
Hi. I'm thinking about getting one will it keep my electric blanket going through the night do you think??
How much % would it take out of the Jackery to fully charge a smart phone?
Not sure, but I imagine you could charge it at least 30 times.
I’m really enjoying the Onewheel! Do you use any protection for the tire on yours? Like the Armordilloz or whatever it’s called?
awesome man, they're great right?!!! I haven't bought any of the Armor stuff yet, but when I wear down the Vega to the point of being sketchy, I'm going to buy the Burris Trail Pro treaded and fill it with the armordilla whatever stuff:^)
Full Send Alaskan Overland yes the Onewheel is a lot of fun! Do you plan to change the tire yourself?
Yup
Full Send Alaskan Overland so I noticed you went only 4.7 miles and used 50 percent of the onewheel battery? Is that right?
@@nyccollin Nope, I turned off the onewheel at the post office, so it restarted the odometer, it went right at 8 miles round trip.
Can the jackery be simultaneously used and charged at the same time? I need to run a small fridge consistently. Thanks
I believe so.
New Subscriber needing some advice Please! I just ordered a Vevor 12V, 53qt dual zone car fridge and a Acopower 100W 12V monocrystalline solar panel that will installed on top of our Suburban. That’s all the room on top cause of the roof cargo boxes. Using BLUETTI EB55 Portable Power Station 537Wh. Will this be enough solar for it keep up running that fridge?(nothing else). Should I add a narrow flexible solar panel (say 50watt) on one my cargo boxes? Problem is I hear nothing but bad about those. Thank for any insight or ideas!
As long as you stay in the sun that should probably be enough to run the fridge, I only have 100 watts on my truckhouse, but I have a 200amp hour lithium battery setup.
Random Question: Would I be able to plug in a power bar into the outlet so I could get maybe 2-4 more outlets??? For instance, if there are two laptops that need to be plugged in out on a picnic table or something, etc.
yes, as long as the amperage/watt draw isn't too high, but a couple of laptops yes
@@TruckHouseLife Cheers
What happens if it is overloaded . My question is does it have a fuse or a breaker surge protector I would appreciate it if someone knows
I have a laptop charger that is three prong and says "125V" would that work with this?
It probably should if it's 120 V, not sure about 125
How long do you think a small TV and PS4 could run on a Jackery 500?
only one way to find out;)
I've never seen a one-wheel thing like that dude lol that thing looks awesome you were going off-road and everything with that
can you use Jackery Explorer 500 to charge a 48V 16Ah electric bike battery?
I'm sure you could
I have one and in full sun it charges in 4 hrs!
Can you run a box fan on it? And about how long?
not sure, probably quite some time
When a product is sent to you free it might be hard to give a complete honest opinion ;)
Exactly, for most folks... but it makes me tell it even more how it really is lol
Did you use a XR hyper charger for the one wheel or the standard XR charger?
Standard XR charger.
@@TruckHouseLife thanks! Looking to get one for a GT soon.
Is the discount a code or just a discount sometimes that Amazon has.
How’s your water well doing? Good video
Awesome haha, put it under the ground so it wasn't in the way.
@@TruckHouseLife yep I know I did it haha
what is the hole under the dual plug/ 110?
yup!
Hi Timmy. I would like your serious advice please? I'm 71 and retired but am self-employed part-time as a pop violinist/busker to help pay bills etc. I just bought a wheelchair trailer to carry my heavy JBL Eon speaker and Roland Street Cube but of course, won't be able to go on the bus anymore with that trailer lagging behind! The reason I got the trailer [$200] was b/c my gear was so heavy it drains my battery too quickly. And of course, putting things on wheels requires fewer foot-pounds of energy. However, not relying on the bus, I better be DARN SURE I don't run out of battery power so am planning to get a light generator to put in the trailer. I will post my model of wheelchair tomorrow. I too use a charger like yours.
Yup the jackery works really well, the JBL eons are big speakers though, as long as there's not too much bass it should last you a while. I would probably get a 1000 watt portable power station if possible though.
@@TruckHouseLife For $99 I got a spare EON JBL battery. It's rechargeable--I don't need power for that. Just mentioned it b/c of the weight but weighs less than 18 pounds so the wheelchair's not too stressed out on my wheel cart. My violin and case is like what? Three pounds? The 1,000 watt ones are so expen$ive!
Also Timmy--my wheelchair charger [AC adapter] reads INPUT: 100-240 Vac 1.5 Amps OUTPUT: 24 V3A
@@TruckHouseLife I think 500 watts is enough since this guy is charging his car battery with it. A lot more amps than my chair.
ua-cam.com/video/PV-JkEZCZQc/v-deo.html
@@TruckHouseLife I'm mixed up. I think you're right--at least a 1000 watt. Better to get my batteries replaced for $300! I will check at the wheelchair store and ask a tech, not a salesperson. Thanks for responding! A sponsor is donating that amount. I am blessed!
That 1 wheel is cool I would need stabalizers.i can't see where the room for the battery goes.
battery is in the back inside the footpad
@@TruckHouseLife it's Shure got some power.
Can you solar charge it and draw power at the same time?
Hmmmm, haven't tried that, but I don't see why not.
Yes
You're my only friend from Alaska LOL that's the place I'm trying to move to
lol it's an awesome place man, especially in a pandemic
@@TruckHouseLife dude I can imagine because over here in Jersey we can't go nowhere so I've been locked in my room but I've been going camping and stealth mode and it's hard to do it around here but I found the perfect spot in a gully as a matter of fact I'm going tonight and we're supposed to get a snowstorm within the next couple days I heard so I'm really looking forward to that

@@TruckHouseLife we are supposedly getting a nor'easter and I got my tent set up..... Saying maybe a foot of snow.... But Jersey weather's crazy they could say a foot of snow and will only get an inch LOL
Hi just wondering how many charges it would provide for a laptop?
Not sure but quite a few
Can you charge the jackery with a different brand solor panel?
I'm not sure actually? They have a special input/adapter that you could probably order.
@@TruckHouseLife 8 mm.
@@carolynsparks3164 sweet good to know!
Yes
I'd look elsewhere for a more comprehensive review. This one's decent but it's more about him on a one wheel scooter than the actual battery.
Good luck!
Yup, i'll do another long-term review before too long here, this was just a quick review and unboxing.
Yeah, right on bro! Thanks.
Great video...
but I couldn't get a "READ" on how YOU "Feel" about this solar generator.
Do you like it?
Love it! It's my favorite of the 3 I own, just like it's user features and feel.

Thank you so much... that helps a lot!!!
Pls can u till this paowr bank can be used for 48v 20ah e.bike battery 🔋
How much is the discount when using the link
I believe it's 10%
How long ir take you to charge it ?
great review, but volume level needs work.
yup I've got a ways to go with editing skills haha
how is the noise? is it whisper quiet or noisy when in use?
whisper quiet:)
@@TruckHouseLife weird why the other models make very noticeable noise..from the other video reviews watched...if i want to keep right beside me i want it to be quiet
@@youtubegarbage4u Not sure? If you use the AC/110 volt/wall plug in power outlet you will hear the fan come on to cool the power station down, but it's not "loud" totally doable.
The weight is 13.3 pounds.
crazy it doesn't feel that heavy at all?
Can you add a second Solar panel for faster charging???
not sure?
Ok
Can the generator stay uncharged for a long time?
yup
He's not a generator think of it as a portable battery Bank it can stay uncharged but it's not good to draw the battery on the jack lower than 30% remember it's a lithium battery
65 you are doing very well. It's no where close to what they say it is. The. Charging time also is no where close to what they claim. The only true part is it's a generator and a panel.
Nice surf tunes! Who was that?
Thanks for the review. Cool one wheeler. I bought a 500 and a 160. I've heard from actual purchase reviews that the jackery is....ok...and panels $300 not so good. You can get a better panel for 1/3 the price. Even then...the Jackery is "governed" and will not charge over 60-70%. It's name is HUGE only because they handed them out like candy to just about EVERYONE on UA-cam. Its hard when someone simply hands you $800-$1000 of free stuff and honestly say what you feel....if you do, you stop getting $$$ and free stuff. You tube is THE worst place for reviews. They're all paid for.
No worries, I tried to show people how it honestly does and yes, I noticed it seemed to govern/limit at around 70% on the solar panel even in full sun with no clouds.
You literally saw him use it. What more do you need for feedback? How about make up your own mind or use another method for review. I find UA-cam awesome for reviews and I want people to continue using it. If it's bad, I'll know it just by how it performs.
Better get some ocean spray in your hand next time bruh!!!
You for sure would get a free truck and truck bed of ocean spray...
Lol I'd have to drink 15 of them to be quenched.
Hey Timmy , forgot to say baby à the and of youre intro.😲

I wonder if the Jackery is named after a guy named Zachery? LOL.
ya never know
I noticed that the lady at the post office was a maskhole...
I missed it
I'm sorry but I didn't find the video helpful. Most people will use the battery for living and not their one wheel. A more practical test would have been helpful.
Just trying to test it out in a different way. The Onewheel uses a ton of energy, so thought it would be a good draining test for a high power appliance.
Yes, we find it much more useful if you ran a mini fridge or a LED light or a small TV or charged a laptop
I would like to know WHAT the Jackery can run. Will it run an electric blanket? A electric kettle? It’s not the time, but the WHAT that I can’t find the answers to.
I tried to run my 120 V grinder and it did not have enough power to run that, so it probably can't run power tools in general if that gives you any indication
Shannon H. I've had the 500 for 2 months now and it can easily power my 55 inch TV while simultaneously charging my Bluetooth speaker and phone. I've also plugged in my jigsaw in to it and it ran without any issue while cutting 2x4's. It's a great product, I use it daily.
@@Bootstraps1111
How is it that you say it can charge your phone and your jigsaw which is a power tool, and other people say it absolutely cannot run something like that? Somebody’s not telling the truth.
@@Shan-ShanH Phones are charged by USB cables, by using one of the 3 USB ports. Those are a different outlets from what the jigsaw uses... so you can technically charge 3 phones on the 3 separate USB ports, and still use the jigsaw all at the same time.
@@Shan-ShanH pretty obvious isn’t it...
Can I watch t.v on it ??
Three usb ports.
im guessing this cant power a small portable ac for 9 hours!!! 😭😭😭🤣 im living in my toyota sienna and cant stay cool at night in florida
lol probably not, but check out episode 30... I power my small 6,000 BTU portable air conditioner with my Honda 1000 generator (that's right a 1,000, not a 2,000)... pretty sweet!
At 0:55 wrt size reference. In all fairness we don't know how big your face is. You can be one of them giants you know?
lol good point;)
You said the one wheel was fully drained @start of the video and then you said one wheel was only 50% charged ? You confusing mate
Hmmm, not sure I said that? I show the onewheel with a 100% charge, then go on a ride, and show the onewheel at 50% when I return... then I hook the onewheel up to the Jackery to charge it.
he said he would try to fully drain it but hey 50% still works
You have to use Jackery’s own expensive solar panels. A major downside
Hmmm didnt know that!
@@TruckHouseLife I was actually wrong. You can use anything I have been told
Not true! Any panel with 8mm adapter
