    "Self-Reliance" is an 1841 essay written by American transcendentalist philosopher and essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson. It contains the most thorough statement of one of Emerson's recurrent themes: the need for each individual to avoid conformity and false consistency, and follow his own instincts and ideas. This channel will approach self reliance from a modern perspective. and will focus on various build projects using modern amenities, and tools to build a completely self reliant lifestyle.
    Many people ask me where I am from and where I film my projects. I am from Northern Ontario, Canada, and live in an area where off-grinding is easy because I have lots of land to build on and experiment with different buildings and materials. Everything I do is to try to be more self reliant, and to depend less on others. But that doesn't mean I don't like working together with other people on projects. Knowing people who have skills is part of being self reliant, and trading skills is a great way to get more things done!

    Wow, im pretty impressed it could run the table saw and grinder that easily. Seems like it would be a great piece to have while initially getting a cabin built and set up. Or as supplement to a gas generator. On these bigger units, I wonder if it would be possible for them to incorporate a small solar panel built into the top of it? So it always has some power input if its outside

    You know, while I am not a fan of these types of videos since it just sounds like you’re trying to help sell their products, I cannot argue it’s interesting to see how you use them in the future in builds. Nothing against you or you making money, I just prefer the builds. Still awaiting the day we get the “Cursing in the woods with Kevin” video you keep teasing with every build.

  • @solarcharging9743

    It may run a table saw and grinder now, but give it a few months of exposure to high inductance loads and its built-in, low cost (cheap) high frequency inverter will probably become a brick. The reason for this is that all these high frequency, transformerless solar generators lack a very critical component. That critical component is an iron core, copper wound output transformer.
    Without an output transformer to act as a buffer to absorb electrical surges provided by the “Flywheel Effect” inherent in the physical amount of a transformer’s iron, these surges and damaging reverse voltage spikes must be handled directly by the inverter’s MOSFET transistors, essentially shortening their life.
    You might be able to start and run some high surge loads when these solar generators are new, but every time you fire up that inductive load, you're shortening the life of the MOSFETs in your solar generator's inverter. They also run much hotter than low frequency, transformer-based inverters which makes the low cost, off spec, Chinese made components such as capacitors, diodes, resistors and ICs that are used in these cheap inverters, far more prone to early failure.
    Another major consideration with these high frequency, transformer free solar generators is safety. All it takes is for one of their MOSFETs or IGBTs to short to ground or the control circuitry to fail, and these units will send dangerous, high voltage, high amperage DC current straight to your connected AC loads which will not only damage most AC appliances but can also set those AC appliances on fire.
    A far better alternative is to invest a little more money and purchase a hybrid, low frequency, transformer based inverter charger and assemble your own high quality solar generator. Low frequency transformer based inverters last years and years longer than these dangerous solar generators and can easily power high surge loads without being damaged. That's why the big name brand inverter manufacturers like Schneider Electric, Outback Power, Vicron and others, all use a low frequency topology in their offerings. I know this to be true because I've spent the last 23 years repairing inverters. High frequency solar generators/inverters simply don't last when powering inductive loads.

    • @DraconisMarchVII
      @DraconisMarchVII 3 місяці тому

      So what high inductance loads would I realistically need to worry about? I don't really think using a table saw is the most important use of a generator in a blackout or other emergency.

    • @solarcharging9743
      @solarcharging9743 3 місяці тому

      While simultaneously running several critical household resistive and inductive loads like a dryer, oven and stovetop.and and your refrigerator's compressor and this inverter's weak 200% surge capacity would be exceeded and this inverter would shut down. @@DraconisMarchVII

    How much solar input can it take? My experience with Jackery is that I can only use the Jackery solar panels to change it. The cables aren't interchangeable with standard solar connectors. Other than that, I do use the little Jackery batteries for travel and outdoor activities. Fun review! Tea, coffee, power tools.

    I just received the Jackery Explorer 3000 Pro. So far I’m extremely disappointed. When I connect the solar panels to the Jackery DC input, the display on the front shows 0 for input wattage. I have made sure the solar panel position is perfect and the shadow of the dot is in the inner white circle. It’s an extremely sunny day here in Florida. Yet the display shows 0 input. The Wi-Fi and Bluetooth lights won’t even light up on the Jackery. The app is a joke. The user manual is bare minimum and is also no help. I have reached out to Jackery customer support and the most that they have done is send me a picture of how to plug the cords into theDC input. Gheez, thanks. I think if I can afford this overpriced item, I should be able to figure out how to plug a cord in. Beware of paid advertisements for this generator filled with GLITCHES!!
