I personally think that hub worlds is a good idea because you travel around it using the game mechanics to get you to know what you’re doing (if that makes sense lol)
This is really high quality! Also, I think one of the many reasons that hub worlds aren't as common place is partially because big open areas aren't as impressive as they were back when hub worlds were popular.
I think doggifu just likes chilling and making game worlds feel like home :) I've considered the hub world in Custom Robo: Battle Arena my home since I was a kid, even though it's tiny and full of not much to do except talk to npcs. For me it's the slower pace of it all, the npcs just chilling, and the atmosphere being heavily carried by the soundtrack
May I present to you, the worst hub world I have ever played in any videogame: Soleana Forest from good ol' Sonic '06. It's by far the biggest of the three hubs in that game and also the most bland. Most of the time you are just holding forward and making your way to the next level or mission, with boring visuals to go with it. Despite what I've said, I am one of the rare Sonic '06 enjoyers you'll find but this just makes me want to pull my hair out.
oh my god YES watching this was as exciting as watching a whole Nintendo direct, i was bouncing up and down each time you showed a different hub world. Great video, subscribed
I too love Hub worlds way too much! I spend so much time in them and love appreciating the aesthetics and good game play inside what is basically a giant menu!
I'm with you, man. I enjoy hub worlds a lot. Sure they can have their problems (see Sonic 06 for example), but I find them charming and a nice place to catch your breath after a hard level. Kudos dude!
Love hub worlds. Station square from sonic adventure, the x mansion from X men legends and the fairy kingdom in kameo elements of power are some of my favorites.
"fancy menus with some gameplay sprinkled in". I thought you were going to talk about the pleasure of a great menu. We know a good one is actually fantastic.
I feel like everyone is trying to do open world when hubs centralize everything that's strictly necessary without wasting too much of the player's time.
Great video. I been making a game on my 3ds with rpg maker fes and I used a hub world. It's better in my opinion than a open world game not to say I dont like those games I do. Lots of games inspired my game and one of is Super Mario 64. You cant beat hub worlds.
I love hubs. It's always nice to have a home base to return to and just chill out in :)
You know a hub world is good when there's a really high point that's tough to reach but has a great view and reward.

Hub worlds are great to have both familiarity along with secrets to explore as you progress and learn/obtain new moves.
I miss hub worlds so much. Would take even a mediocre hub world over the lifless open worlds that have infested the gaming industry.

I feel most games these days also dont have levels removing the need for hub worlds

My first hub world was CTTR on the PS2.
It's a bit messy and disorganized but still kinda fun.

Spyro's original trilogy always had great hub worlds - especially Ripto's Rage.
Preach!!
