Not so much today, but back in the day unplugging the TV wasn't a bad idea. As a young TV repairman apprentice, we fixed tons of TVs after a bad lighting storm. It would blow the big capacitor over the yoke, an oil based, layers of ribbon capacitor, so the whole TV insides were coated with oil, with ribbon everywhere.
I was once in an ER waiting room when a guy strolled in and told the front desk he'd been shot. Raised his shirt to show them the hole in his side. Crazy.

As an American, I can say first of all, they passed a law that gift cards can't expire anymore. Also, I kinda like them because if you just get cash as a gift, you can just spend it on anything (which, yes, is great, but you might not remember it, especially if you wound up putting it toward your bills). Like, my uncle gave me a gift card to a particular store decades ago, & I wound up getting a nice winter scarf I still have & still use. I never would've bought something that nice if it weren't for the gift card, forcing me to use it in that store. It also can be quite thoughtful if the person knows you well enough to know where to give you a gift card for.
In 20 years if Steven fry doesn’t win another award for best supporting or best actor roll then all hope is lost. Since blackadder and all of the above not to mention V for vendetor Steven fry has been not been just himself over the years but has played an intricate part in portraying the years that he lived generations before himself and if anything is grown since his prime I truly feel that connection to art or growth has to be gained from everything bad and good no matter the cost

For those wondering about the viking swear word that Stephen refused to elaborate on, it was an expletive word used to accuse a man of being a bottom in a homosexual sexual encounter. Surprisingly enough, the top in the sex act was not punished looked down upon but those accused or caught being a bottom were expected to challenge the accuser to a holmgang (fight to the death) and if they didn’t, they were bullied and ostracised from the community. It was the Viking version of the f-slur, essentially.

I couldn't pick up what he said but now that you have clarified, a ghost writer writes the material, and the other person puts their name to it. Lots of material is written that way. You may have a good idea but are unable to put it to prose and the ghost writer elaborates and formats it out for you.
It is called Without You however it was actually written by Harry Nilsson who had a pretty big hit with it in America. And I was hoping someone would comment about that so thank you!

I have to disagree about the gift-card thing. With a gift card, you're not obligating someone to pretend to be pleased about the guess you've made about what they like, and the message you're giving off about the kind of person you think they are. (Or at least as often, what the gift says about yourself.) A gift card says, "I want you to have something you want; something practical that you need for free, or treat yourself to something you want but wouldn't ordinarily spend your money on." I think everyone has their own version of this story: When I was about 12 or 13, I first came across a picture by M.C. Escher. "Oh, that's really cool," I said in the presence of family members as witnesses. Sure enough, for Christmas I got a book of M.C. Escher prints. Which was nice; not something I particularly wanted, but cool enough in its own right, and it was nice that they remembered that I liked it. Then on my birthday I got an Escher poster -- again, not something I dreamed of having in my bedroom, but cool enough. Then another book of Escher prints (i.e., the same prints but in a different book), then another, and another... Escher mugs, Escher sweaters, an Escher _lunch box_ of all things, luckily I was already getting beaten up at school for other stuff... It eventually petered out. But while I don't _hate_ the works of M.C. Escher, I like them considerably less than I did when I first saw one. Just get a gift card. It doesn't make you a bad person, just a reasonable one.

I've read 1984 at least 6 times....
Been living it for the last 20 years.
It should be mandatory.
And, ya, we're living it.
I think it's a bit closer to Brave New World. The population waving any flag than news tells them to

Did a book report on it in middle school and “I think it should be required reading “ was my summary. And yeah, never dreamed I’d be living it.
