    With the expensive wedding bit, I'm more convinced that spending a massive amount on the wedding suggests that they're more concernced with the event itself than the supposed life long marriage, and in a way, the wedding sets the bar for the rest of the relationship. For lack of a better word, you're delusional if you think you can make every single day the best day of your would-be spouses life, there are gonna be ups and downs, an extortionately expensive wedding is, sadly, just making it more difficult to meet your own standards in future...
    Still, that's just how I see it, I'm simple, if I were to marry I'd want it to be a relatively quiet day, good friends gathered to enjoy a brief but poignant ceremony, and a damn good meal to share afterwards, I'd be happy if all my guests food coma'd their way home.

      i got married in 87 and we spend a lot on our wedding. About half a years salary. I grew up in the western US and my wife is from Israel, We both came from large families. We got married in NYC, lots of travel expenses, around a hundred guests, it was a year of planning and yes, very expensive but my wife wanted a big wedding and love her and still do so we made it happen. I don't regret a thing. It was a magical day. Happy wife, happy life

    Regarding the coin-toss question. Davies is quite right if the coins cannot be distinguished. This is an important result in physics due to the Indian physicist Bose. But he could not get his paper published, so he appealed to Einstein, who immediately saw that Bose was on to something, and used his influence to get the paper published. It is now known as Bose-Einstein statistics.

    Where I live on the Isle of Wight, back in the mid-late 1950's I used to go down to the sea side to visit an amusement arcade, aged about 10 years old, where at the rear of the building (behind the bumper cars) was a rifle range, where I could pay for a .22 rifle (live ammo loaded into a tube magazine) to try and win something at the end of the range. I doubt that this would be allowed these days though....

    While having a cheaper marriage is probably a good reflection of longevity because who wants to start off their marriage 50k in debt, if reckon the guest/longevity correlation is probably due more to the fact that cultures that traditionally have super large weddings (Indian, Middle Eastern, etc) also severely look down on divorce.
    I think we just need to stop associating marriage length with marriage success, as someone who’s witnessed a few 60+ year old marriages that are NOT happy or healthy for anyone involved

    • @vink6163
      @vink6163 2 місяці тому

      I think the point of the study is that in western cultures, people who genuinely want to be together don't care about the size of the wedding so a small one is fine for them, as being partners is what they consider most important. But some people just want to be the centre of attention and show off, and so they perhaps jump into a wedding too soon because they are too eager to pretend to be king and queen for a day, so those marriages are less likely to last. It's not that spending a lot of money causes a worse marriage, is that's the type of people who rush into a marriage with the wrong person also happen to be the types who want to spend big on their wedding to show off, so there is a correlation, but not a causation.

    What does it matter which coin is heads and which tails? There are only three possibilities. Two heads, two tails or one of each. The difference is the likelihood. 25% chance of Heads, 25% Tails and 50% one each.

    • @serendipidus8482
      @serendipidus8482 4 місяці тому +3

      I think you mean to ask why does it matter. So it matters because those are not the only options. The options are heads tails tails heads tails tails heads heads. So people will often think tails heads and heads tails is the same thing because when you flip the coins you're not thinking of those as two sets of possibility. If you told the coins and get tails heads it will seem the same as heads tails. Unless you had different coloured coins. So there are four options. Two of which result in one head and one tail. So out of the four possibilities two are heads tails one is head head one is tail tail. Why does it matter which way the first coin lands? Because that has decided the first outcone into one of two options. Just as when the first baall comes out of the lottery machine that has established the first outcome or when you toss a advice and the first one lands a six that establishes the first outcome ..so if you dont roll a six on the first dice youre not going to get a double six on rolling the second dice.

    • @serendipidus8482
      @serendipidus8482 4 місяці тому +2

      There are four possibilities. He explains tí to you. If you had two coins of different colours it might help you to understand. Say one green and one red. The options are you can have a green head and a red tail or two green heads or two red tails. So four. Very simple. All you have to do is actually use your brain and count.

      Thats 3 possible outcomes of result.
      I understand 2 coins have 4 sides, so that's 4 possible outcomes of how they land. You couldn't tell someone who bet on heads and tails they lost because the result was actually tails and heads.
