    Thank you. My instructor tried explaining this, went way too advanced, and couldnt finish the problem half way through it... then he gave up and moved on to another topic. Glad I took it upon myself to utilize helpful videos like this to actually learn the material properly.

    for regular chemistry level they have to tell you it is at 25 degrees C because remember those values are found experimentally in a lab under certain pressure and temperatures and remember that H=E+PV temperature must be a constant because any change in temperature will dramatically effect pressure and thus changing the volume and that is very important to know because once you get into entropy you need to know or atleast they have to tell you it is at standard formation

    My only question is.. Why would you multiply by 2 the whole equation to satisfy the 2S(s) instead of multiplying it by 3 to satisfy the 3O(2)? Why choosing one over the other?
    Thanks for the responses.

      I believe that it’s because sulfur appears only once in the equation and that’s we prioritize them. Oxygen appears both in the equation that’s why we let it be. We just jumped directly to the product which also appeared once in the two equations given.

    Just checking why this is different from the short cut answer.... - Based on the shortcut you showed in previous video -
    delta H(total) = sum of delta H (pdt) - sum of delta H (rxt)
    = (-) 198 kJ - (-) 594 kJ = (+) 396 kJ

    Both are correct. Hess's Law or Hess' Law. Most prefer Hess's Law because Hess' law implies there are many Hess and the Law belongs to all of them.

    really helpful, but the equation you multiplied by 2 needs a subscript 2 by the Oxygen in order to be balanced :)

    • @colossalmango
      @colossalmango 10 років тому

      it has one

    • @kayleefitzgerald7628
      @kayleefitzgerald7628 10 років тому

      Giovanni Almonte nope it does not it says 2S + 20 -> 2SO2 That is not balanced -.- that would be 2 moles of Sulfur for both sides and 2 moles of Oxygen on one side and 4 on the other... so again she needs a subscript two on the oxygen on the left since it is a gas and is diatomic, however, if you are talking about the equation in blue yup it does have the two subscript I am talking about the equation in green though :)... haha sorry for ranting I just realized you may have been talking about the equation in blue my bad
