Chinese government has far far far more vision than any of other nations in its infrastructure building programs. ask yourself: why ALL major cities in China have such extensive subway system? just for economic purposes (efficiency in transportation or simply urban modernization planning)? if you think so you have been naïve. this is also WAR PLANNING! if its adversaries such as the US go nuts and the world slide into WW2-like conventional or nuclear mutual destructions these subway system can serve as shelters for its people. if anyone has ever been to China you will find supermarkets, various shops, entertainment facilities are lined up or closely linked with the subway systems, which will help to sustain the underground living for its city dwellers for a substantial period of time. China is always prepared (for any eventualities). this is why we trust our leaders and support our government.
Scientifically speaking, considering that nuclear winter will last for at least 5 years to a decade, all plants and fish in the oceans will die, except for cockroaches and rodents or rats. NYC metro subway system in this case has better food sustainability because of its big population of rats. Flashy clean underground bunker of China has only big population with no food, see th epicture here. So those big rats you saw in New York subway are there not for nothing, they are protein, food, while in China, what are you going to do? cannibalizing each others?

Western subways, for example, in USA, Canada and UK, are very old. However, there's no excuse for why these subways can't be clean, modern and safe, especially given how rich these countries are. It all comes down to one thing: *maintenance.* Maintenance includes cleaning crews, rail upgrades, train upgrades, signaling system upgrades, station upgrades, etc. If these countries were able to maintain their subways, they would look just as nice as Chinese subways. What is wrong with these Western countries???
The newer parts of the London Underground are really good and so is the Elizabeth line. And the tube is way cleaner than other newer metros. Still, China does a better job of looking after the metto and İ hope that they can keep it as clean at it is right now.
China has old stations too but they are being continuously updated and look less dated. London underground and New York subways owners don't seem to bother any modernization. They minimize the spending and upkeep of the systems.
Cleanliness, affordable, speed, efficiency aren't everything. US subways are better because you are free to do anything, like expose yourself, mug, threaten, stick gum on seats, etc. 😂
I saw a post on X asking what is the yellowish dirt on the seat of London metro is, and people replied that's powdered shit. Really mind blowing, I can't believe that there are people pop on the metro seat.
In US, you must pray if you get out from the subway safely without been rob, disturb or even kill as there are news that ppl get push under train in US without apparent reason.
That's why most people here in Toronto stay far away from the yellow line while waiting for the metro. Things are not like this back into 2017. There are multiple cases of people being pushed to the track and hit by the train in recent years. Most of them just happened randomly, nobody want to be the next "fortunate" victim.
My bucket list is to have a ride in the NY subway. It must be marvelous and spectacular. I see a lot in the utube video but never try it before. (I live in Hong Kong.)
